Fabraz, the team behind the excellent 2D platformer Slime-san, has announced a brand new 3D platformer game "with attitude" known as Demon Turf. It's said to be a spiritual successor to Slime-San and will be released on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms between late 2020 and early 2021.
Here's a rundown of the game's story along with some screenshots from Steam:
The Demon World is inhabited by all kinds of nasties… Most of them lumped into gangs battling for dominion, each led by its own head honcho. Yet even these bad dudes are no match for the Demon King himself! Instead the task falls to Beebz, a young demon barely a thousand years old, who decides it’s time for her to kick every turf leader’s butt and become the Demon Queen herself.

That's an interesting art style for sure, reminds me of parappa the rapper.
@Expa0 You beat me to it. I was gonna say Disgaea meets Parappa.
The first part of the trailer made me think of the original Abe's Odyssey.
Definitely keeping an eye on this. I think Slime-San deserves more attention than it's gotten, what a platformer!
Art style looks nice. Animation on the other hand... needs lots of work.
@Daniel36 Reminds me of the fangame Sonic Robo Blast 2
@SwitchVogel yeah i tried the demo and will get slime san at some point. It made me smile with the goofy weird characters but the gameplay was sharp and artstyle cool if you into pixel goo with a chick on his head with shades! Brilliant 😂😂😂😎🐣
That jump animation ^^
I personally wasn't able to get into Slime-san since its platforming gameplay felt a little "flat" in many areas for me. I had far more fun with Super Meat Boy.
As for Demon Turf, it looks really good. I'm keeping an eye on this one
Artistically, this one looks really neat. If the gameplay is fun then I'll definitely grab this. We could use some more good 3D platformers.
Now this style is interesting and reminds me of early 00s 2D/3D platformers/RPGs.
This is mostly interesting because we finally have some talented 2D Indie developers trying their hands at 3D.
If this has the same focussed action platforming as Slime-san then it could be something special in the 3D platforming world.
Interesting art-style too - 2D drawn characters in a 3D Cel-shaded environment. However, for now things don't look very fluid somehow, and I'm this still has some ways to go. Particularly animations need work.
Slime-san wasn't that great in my opinion. I like platformers, I like retro stuff, I like hard games... But it was just okay in my opinion. I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as other people seemed to.

I think the reason a lot of indie devs don't attempt 3D is it invites comparisons to AAA games. Which they're never gonna compare favourably to.
It looked nice until the character started moving...
Could be quite good, but personally I'm a bit put off by the number of environments that had dark skies. I guess it fits the theme of the game, but there's something I don't seem to enjoy about dark environments. I saw one shot of a bright, sunny sky, the rest were in need of a big brightness boost.
Yeah, don't like the artstyle here. 2D models animated in a 3D environment looks way too jarring. Gameplay looks interesting, but that artstyle puts me off.
Struggling to get on board with the artstyle. The pixellated but not pixel-art 2D character and the mish-mash of high-res and stylised textures aren't working for me. I think with some work it could look great...but I'd also drop in a 3D character too.
The gameplay looks fine, but I'm less keen on the main character. There's a bit too much attitude for my tastes.
That seems kinda neat. Loved slime-San so I’ll keep an eye on this.
For a second there, I thought it said 'Demon Terf'.
For those saying it looks a bit janky, I watched the whole thing on IGN Summer of Games, and they said upfront that this is just an alpha build to show people the kinds of things they are doing with the game. Lots of time still to go before it gets released to improve animation, etc. Personally, I really enjoy the art style although I can certainly see how it won't be everyone's favorite. This could be quite promising!

There's not that many really, it's a genre that's fallen out of favour.
Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and ratchet and clank are the ones that come to mind. An indie game is not likely to have the resources to match even a 3d game from last gen.
So I think a lot of them prefer to make a good looking 2D game, than a mediocre looking 3d one.
Oh no, this is one of the worst looking games I've seen.
Fabraz is maybe the most overlooked indie dev right now. Still a lot to see on this but I'm pretty confident it'll turn out great.
the art style being varied is kinda messing with my head. if the character was more 3d like hat kid, i think the game would be better on the eyes. tho the world looks fun.
Very weird art-style, that's for sure.
A must have. I love the style, the gameplay looks smooth and fun.
