A "Bonus One-Off" Splatfest Will Take Place In Splatoon 2 Next Month

Now if only this one-off can cause a resurgence in splat fests. I wouldn't even mind doing more like this which were already done

Unexpected, but not unwelcome. Splatfests were the only reason I kept playing since Ranked was very much a randomized chance of "amazing" and "terrible" what with the players and connection quality. So it's good to see them bring back older Fests as many players may not have gotten the chance to experience them if they joined the game later. I hope they bring back more if they don't plan on making Splatoon 3 anytime soon. These are fun!

I am game. I really miss the Splatfests. I needed a really good reason to fire the game back up and this is definitely it.

I was not expecting this in the slightest, but man am I glad it's happening. I can't wait to give the ole Splat Deulies another spin.

(I like the game but since the Splatfests ended I played a little less)

@thehoppypoppy Yeah, they reward the super sea snails too, if you're trying to add ability slots to any gear.

I would love occasional one-off Splatfests like this. Say, 2-3 a year, just enough to draw new and returning players in and give current players more variety. Heck, I don’t even mind if they reuse Splatfest topics; there’s enough out there that if you throw ‘em all into a hat you’re not gonna repeat the same one too quickly.

Team mayo all the freaking way.
Mayo is just so much more versatile. You can put ketchup on burgers, hot dogs, omurice... and that's pretty much it.
Mayo, however... You can put it on the same things, plus you can make mayo-based salads out of it (like potato salad), it's the basis for tartar sauce and goes really well with fish and seafood (as mayo or tartar), is a staple of any cold plate, and it makes sandwiches a thousand times better. Not to mention it's quite easy to make at home.

I was saddened by the conclusion of Splatfest events in Splatoon 2 because I expected them to continue for a while longer through the Switch’s lifespan, so I’m really excited to relive the competition where it all started in this game. Team Mayo always!

For real? That's wonderful. I bought the game after the last Splatfest, so I'll be very excited to participate in this one. Also, mayonnaise is disgusting and ketchup is delicious.

How can one decide between ketchup and mayonnaise without knowing the meal in question?

If we assume the meal is squid, I much prefer sweet and sour sauce.

This is great news! Have put about 10 reminders in my phone so I don't forget since it is a month away. Hopefully Nintendo will see a sudden surge in people playing Splatoon 2 and decide to bring Splatfests back either once a month or every other month.

Wonderful! Time to get back into this game if only for that Splatfest then!! I was on the winning side last time. I might go with Ketchup this time for the red ink. Last time I picked mayo because I simply prefer mayo.

Why did they not choose the toilet paper splatfest in these times?

That’s timely... just sold the game last week with the potential intention of buying it digitally if ever on sale so that me and my son can play together with one copy on two switch....

Is the game still active online (beside this event)? Would you still recommend buying it?

@fadedcolors, @MoonKnight7, and anyone else who's wondering why Nintendo stopped doing Splatoon 2 Splatfests.

• I believe it's because they were shifting their focus to New Horizons, so they stopped doing the Splatfests, since the Splatoon and Animal Crossing are the same developments teams within Nintendo.
• Hence, that's part of the reason why New Horizons got delayed, was so that the team didn't get burned out as they were shifting their focus to New Horizons.

I couldn't believe this when I saw it, I'm so happy.

I'm definitely going to be supporting the greatest condiment once more.

@RunGMhx Splatoon 2 is definitely still active,. I think people are still playing even Splatoon 1 (or at least they were last time I checked which is not long ago), so if it's anything like it, Splatoon 2 will continue to be active for a long time.

YES!!!! I'll finally be able to fully participate in a Splatfest! I've had the game since before Knights V. Wizards but I've never been able to play them because I didn't have internet( I wanted to play the Campaign and Octo Expansion plus it was on sale). Now I have internet and can finally participate! I know Mayo won last time but Team Ketchup all the way! Can't wait for May.

I feel like my Splatfest theory is starting to come together.
(Which was, that at E3 if they were going to do another Splatoon 2 tournament after the tournament was finished, announce that Splatfest are coming for (at least) another year, now that New Horizons has released)

I get they're trying to revitalize the game but reusing an old splatfest is dumb. How hard is it to draw two new pictures and write four lines of dialogue? Heck they could ride the Animal Crossing train. Give us bug vs fish with CJ and Flick shirts!
