Re: Tomb Raider's Lara Croft Is Joining Brawlhalla

Krisi

@PhilMyth Well, you've got to take it into account that Smash is a Japanese game, and mostly consists of characters that are iconic and important in Japan, and Tomb Raider is far from that. Not to mention they almost never include any characters made outside of Japan (out of the almost 80 characters, only 4 are not Japanese made). I could probably list at least 50 game series that are more well-known in Japan than Tomb Raider and don't have a fighter in Smash yet.
Sure, outside of Japan Lara and her games are very recognizable, and enough fan demand might get her in, but her chances in my opinion are much, much smaller than people think. I've been saying the same thing with Crash for a long time, but even Crash is much more well-known in Japan than Tomb Raider.

Re: Reminder: Four Classic SNES And NES Games Have Launched On Switch Today

Krisi

@SteveDaSteve Well, we don't have any of the 4 Castlevania games, any of the 6 Mega Man games, any of the 2 Contra games, Ninja Gaiden 2 or 3, no Earthbound Beginnings (Mother) or Nazo no Murasamejou, or Yoshi's Cookie, no Goemon games, no StarTropics II or Adventures of Lolo 2 or 3, no Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) games, no Faxanadu, no Mach Rider, Pac-Man, or Galaga, not even Xevious, Lode Runner, or Bionic Commando... And the list goes on, and I didn't even mention licensed games like Batman or Duck Tales. These are all very famous, popular NES games that haven't appeared yet. I think they are far from finished.

Re: Reminder: Four Classic SNES And NES Games Have Launched On Switch Today

Krisi

@victordamazio Exactly, Nintendo has to pay a fee to every publisher for every game while basically making no extra money in the process. Sure, I'd love to have more games, but I think we have plenty of classics to play already, plus I'm guessing for most people, these are just little extras they play on the side between bigger games. I'm fairly certain that most people complaining wouldn't use this service that much even if it had twice as many classics.

Re: Reminder: Four Classic SNES And NES Games Have Launched On Switch Today

Krisi

I just don't get you people.
Sure, these are not the most popular games, but we already got so many great games, classics and hidden gems alike. If you're not a fan of retro gaming, you shouldn't really complain about a service that's not for you. If you are, there are already tons of worthwile games available, and I doubt you beat all of them.
I understand that you want stuff like Donkey Kong Country and EarthBound, but you can play many games of similar style and quality using this service.
Plus once they give us Donkey Kong Country, you'll probably complain again when they add Legend of the Mystical Ninja, because you don't know that game, and they should've added Mario All-Stars or something. You should take these opportunities and try out some new games you haven't played yet, maybe you'll find some new favorites. Pop'n TwinBee and Shadow of the Ninja are both great games, for example.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #28 - Mario Bros.

Krisi

@Haywired That was kind of an important choice in the US. You know, a few years prior, the US had somewhat of a video game crash, mostly due to many games being produced extremely quickly and cheaply, and even if the box art promised some epic action game, the actual gameplay and graphics may have looked and played horrible. That's why Nintendo of America decided to put on the box an artwork that kinda looked like what was actually in the game, so people would immediately know that the game itself looked competent enough, and don't forget that these graphics were very impressive back then compared to what something like the Atari 2600 could do.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #28 - Mario Bros.

Krisi

The Japanese one is my favorite. Sure, the European one looks technically the best, but it's of a very late re-release, so I don't think it should be counted.
I don't really like the American one. Sure, these pixely covers are what they are, but I don't like the fact that they used Mario's sprite from Super Mario Bros. And I get why the box arts were like this at one point, but artistically, it doesn't look great in my opinion. At least the Shellcreeper looks funny.
Which leaves us with the Japanese art: it's charming as heck. Sure, it doesn't have a ton of detail, but it's always fun to see how Mario looked before the more modern times. It's so iconic and fun.

Re: Nintendo Just Applied For 39 Trademarks

Krisi

Card Hero, yay! I freaking love that series, but it doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves. Maybe it has to do something with the fact that both main games (and the DSi version) all only came out in Japan, and are somewhat text-heavy... But they are still awesome.

I wrote all the guides for both main games on GameFAQs which makes them much easier to understand (in my opinion), if anyone's interested in playing them.

Re: Feature: So, Who's Next For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Krisi

Well, my top 5 most wanted characters are...
-Goemon from the Ganbare Goemon/Mystical Ninja series
-Rhythm Girl from Rhythm Heaven, but I guess the wrestler would do...
-Isaac from Golden Sun
-Paper Mario
-Shantae

There are some others I would love to have, like Phoenix Wright or Jibanyan, but these ones would be the coolest.

Re: Feature: New Year Resolutions For Nintendo In 2020

Krisi

Big yes to #1-4, big no to #5.

As some have said before me, the New 3DS was pretty unnecessary for the most part, and if this meant that some upcoming games were worse on, or straight up uncompatible with the regular Switch, that would be terrible. Not everyone has the capacity to upgrade to the newer model, video game consoles are very expensive. Especially if you live in a country where one costs more than half of your monthly income.

Re: Blossom Tales Limited Run Physical Release Announced For Switch

Krisi

Why is this game so popular? I mean I love 2D Zelda, as well as indie games, and I really wanted to like this, but it was quite a disappointment in almost every way. Very boring level design, very often recycled puzzles, straight up amateurish pixel art... It doesn't hold a candle even to the weakest Zelda games, and I'm definitely not saying that because I think Zelda is better than everything.

Re: Feature: Good-Feel's President On Moving Away From Kirby And Yoshi To Self-Publish Twin-Stick Shooter Monkey Barrels

Krisi

I'm quite interested in Monkey Barrels, I'm definitely going to buy it eventually. And another shooter by them is just amazing news, not only is it a really fun genre, but they also made StreetPass Squad/Mii Force, which is surprisingly amazing, easily one of the best, most fun shmups ever. Actually, Monkey Barrels kinda looks like StreetPass Zombies/Battleground Z, which was another one of the best StreetPass games, probably the second best one.

And again, I would love to see Mr. Ebisu and his team handle another Goemon game for Konami, they know what they are doing. Or even an independent, but clearly Goemon-inspired game would be fine too. You know, like Bloodstained or, to a lesser extent, Mighty No. 9.

Re: TwinBee Is Hamster's Latest Arcade Archives Release

Krisi

Or, you know, you could have downloaded the Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection by Konami last week when it was in sale, which has 8 games INCLUDING TwinBee for almost the same price.
But this one has online rankings which the collection I think doesn't have, so there's that.
Anyway, TwinBee is such a fun, creative game. I wish they re-released the PSP collection for the Switch. Or the other three Konami shoot em up collections as well (Gradius, Parodius, and Salamander).

Re: One Of Pokémon's First-Ever Designs Was A Cute Godzilla, But It Didn't Make The Cut

Krisi

Well, I don't really think it resembles Tyranitar, maybe just with the color scheme in the fanart. Plus both (the original design of) the substitute doll and the Gym statues were based on Rhydon.
Many of the first few Pokémon created were based on this kaijuu-like appearance, like Rhydon, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Kangaskhan, and the unreleased Omega and Gyaoon, and I don't think Gojirante/Godzillante resembles Tyranitar much more than these, so I don't think it was necessarily a direct inspiration. Not to mention I think that's a single horn on its head, not the eye things the fan recreation implies.

Re: Untitled Goose Game Dev Wins The 2019 Golden Joystick Breakthrough Award

Krisi

@nessisonett I see. I only played the PS1 version of Resi 2, but I loved that. I can see how good audiowork could make stuff like that even more tense and scary.

However, to someone like me who loves video game music, something like Smash is just a treasure trove. Sure, original songs are not the main attraction (even though they are very good as well), but it has many Smash-exclusive remixes that are very different from the originals, and are great to listen to. Like that remix of King Dedede's theme with Japanese instruments that sounds like a showdown between two samurai or something. I never get tired of this soundtrack, and being something I can listen to for hours on end even when I'm not playing, is very special.

Re: Konami Hasn't Completely Forgotten About Its Mystical Ninja Goemon

Krisi

@cheetahman91 Well, we already have two of those, sadly. They do have great soundtracks, though.

@KingBowser86 If you enjoyed that, I have some great news: it's the most used formula for Goemon games. You could either try Ganbare Goemon 2 or Dancer ni Natta Wake for the SNES, Hoshizorashi Dynamites Arawaru for the Game Boy Color, Ooedo Daikaiten or Shin Sedai Shuumei for the PS1, or New Age Shutsudou for the GBA (although that's easily the weakest one), as they all play quite similarly, and can be played through without knowledge of Japanese for the most part, you might only need some walkthroughs for the town sections. Out of these, probably Goemon 2 and Ooedo Daikaiten are the best ones, but almost all are great.

@chiefeagle02 Well, we did get Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the VC... The horrible Game Boy game for the 3DS Virtual Console, one of THREE games with that exact English title, and also quite easily the worst game of the entire series, sadly. Too bad they decided to pick that one for localization back in the day, when even the other Game Boy Goemon game, released like 6 years before was much superior in pretty much every way. I mean only 6 Goemon games made it overseas in any shape out of something like 30 titles, why does the worst entry have to be one of them?

@Nic-Noc20th-C I don't think it was because of size restrictions, it was probably because for some reason, Nintendo only decided to release 1st (and 2nd) party N64 titles on the Virtual Console.

Re: Konami Hasn't Completely Forgotten About Its Mystical Ninja Goemon

Krisi

Too bad this kind of thing usually doesn't mean anything. I'm the biggest Goemon fan I know (as I own every game in the series, and finished all of them except for the terrible Game Boy game we got, the PS2 game because I don't have a Japanese PS2, and the arcade game Mr. Goemon because I only got it like two days ago, but I definitely want to finish that one), so I would be overjoyed with anything.
Even just a collection. I've had some ideas what a realistic Castlevania/Contra style collection for the Switch would look like (and it sadly doesn't include the fan-favorite N64 game). A remaster would probably be even better, but obviously, a new game would be the best... I guess. I don't know if Konami could make a new Goemon game nowadays. Honestly, the best people to handle the new game would probably be Good Feel of all people (makers of such games as Kirby's Epic Yarn and the recent Yoshi games). as it's a company founded by the main people behind the old Goemon games. It's no wonder the last true game in the series came out in 2005, that's when they left Konami and created Good Feel.

Anyway, him being in Smash as a playable character would be amazing. Not as a Mii costume (although I'm grateful for even that), but as an actual fighter with his own stage and music.
