We first heard about Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling last May, and now a year later its developer Moonsprout Games and publisher Dangen Entertainment have locked in a release date (after seemingly skipping the original console launch in 2019).
This charming adventure RPG which has received "overwhelmingly positive" reviews on Steam, will arrive on the Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One next month, on 28th May. There's no mention of price, but the Steam version goes for $19.99 USD.
Pre-orders, as noted, will open on 14th May. As you can probably tell, the game is heavily inspired by the older entries in Nintendo's Paper Mario RPG series - aesthetics, and all. Here's a description from the official website, and down below this is the trailer from the tweet above.
Bug Fables is an adventure RPG following three heroes, Vi, Kabbu, and Leif, as they embark on an epic quest in Bugaria in search of treasure and immortality! The game combines colorful platforming with the heroes' unique abilities as they explore a wide variety of areas in the kingdom. Battles are turn-based and make use of action commands that can enhance attacks.

Oh, yes, this looks interesting and the reviews are fantastic. I'm keeping an eye out for it.
I've heard great things about this game, I've been waiting for it to come to Switch!
Physical release possibility ?
You had me at "Paper Mario Lookalike."
i wish price was listed in these trailers
This always looked cute.
Here's hoping the writing and the combat is up to snuff.
Heck yeah. Almost grabbed this a couple times, but I just dont finish these types of games on pc anymore.
I've been looking forward to this for a while now. It combines two of my favorite things ever: classic Paper Mario and insects.
Obligatory joke about “needs more testing, game full of bugs”.
Have had this on my Steam Wishlist since it released there but never got it. Might just go ahead and wait for it to come to Switch instead.
Have tried this game on steam, it's very cute!
Hmm, Never played a Paper-Mario but always wanted too - so I'm intrigued by this.
Paper Mario look a like? Nope
Some of those designs look like they have been pulled directly from Hollow Knight. No bad thing though.
@PiXelSteF
Watch the trailer, it looks like a reskin of Thousand Year Door. The animation style and battles are almost identical.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for this. I was playing Thousand Year Door again recently with my son (his first time through) and I'd forgotten how enjoyable it is. It helps that the writing is brilliant though.
I want it but what a poor decision in terms of date just one day before XC and all the 2k games...
@jcvandan My thoughts exactly. Will keep an eye out on this one. Looks adorable.
@Balta666 I thought the same thing when I saw the release date. My time and money will be going to Bioshock the next day. I think Xenoblade is 5/29 as well
Only a few chapters in on PC, but it's really well done. Might double dip eventually after I'm done with Xenoblade.
Looking forward to this!
I am very into it! I have a present mortuary on buying new games, but if it gets a physical copy I will be there!!
Ooooo! I will definitely have this on my radar.
Loved playing through Paper Mario a few years ago on the Wii U, so I'm down to play some more of that type of game with the flat asthetic. Looks cute as well
Everlasting sapling huh?
Everlasting like... a thousand years?
In all seriousness this looks like fun, I'm upset I haven't seen or heard about it yet.
Genshin Impact .... Everybody calls it an evil Zelda Clone and refuses to acknowledge it.
Bug Fables ..... Everybody loves it because it's a Paper Mario clone.
Could one of these games being Chinese have something to do with the double standards here?
Paper Mario Look a like is just another way of saying it's a clone.
That's all indie devs have to do. Just take Nintendo properties from 25 years ago and make them... But don't dare take from a game currently sold in stores.
I had no idea this existed, and now I want it!
I’m definitely interested. We definitely need another traditional Paper Mario so this is welcome. I really hope there’s more to add to your party than the 3 I’ve seen, that’s part of the fun of Paper Mario.
I just started playing this game on Steam, it's the real deal, I'm totally double dipping with a Switch version!
