Re: Switch Online Versions Of Pokémon Stadium 1 & 2 Won't Support Transfers

Krisi

@TommyTendo Yeah, it's definitely a balance thing. I mean it's like the game has a bigger roster right? You can't only use the final evolutions, but the weaker forms as well because they have the better moves.
But still, later opponents, especially in R2 are using the strongest evolutions with the best movesets, so you don't really have much of a chance with just rentals.

Re: Switch Online Versions Of Pokémon Stadium 1 & 2 Won't Support Transfers

Krisi

@ChibiSmoothie It does not really work that way. When importing Pokémon, you're still limited to the levels the game allows. So for cups with level 50 Pokémon, you can't use anything that's higher than that. Rental Pokémon, however, have horrible movesets that make it more frustrating than challenging to complete everything. Wanna use Charizard? I hope you like Ember and Scratch. Oh, you wanted to use Flamethrower and Slash? Gotta go with Charmander then with its horrible stats.

Re: Talking Point: What Was Your First Legend Of Zelda Game?

Krisi

A Link to the Past.
I was around 3 or 4 (so it was around '95-96) when my dad bought it for us when he was working in Germany. It was in German. Which did not really matter that much, as I could not read in any language yet. But my mom was playing it more at that time, and she didn't know German either. It was still so intriguing and wonderful. Both me and my mom have been in love with the franchise since then, and we both played though all the games.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Series Would Work Best As A Free-To-Play Game?

Krisi

None of them, please. This trend needs to stop.
I understand that it won't and it makes quite some money for the developers, but speaking in hindsight as someone who got sucked into quite a lot of these: they all waste your time so much more than any other "paid" game. Sure, the more clever ones are made in a way that you don't really notice and they feel addicting, but you could use that time so much better. Even for other games.

If you don't let them waste your money, that means you bought stuff from them already - probably for even more money than a new game would cost. Now is Fire Emblem Heroes really that well-made or interesting as any of the mainline games? How about Mario Kart Tour? Or Animal Crossing Pocket Camp?

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES Service With Three More SP Titles

Krisi

I'm kinda digging this. Only because now it has the second set of multiplayer stages unlocked for Dream Course. Something that's kind of difficult to do. I have done it on the SNES, but now I have an easier way to play them with my wife on the Switch. Dream Course has seriously one of the best multiplayer modes like ever, and it's a very underrated gem of a game as well.

Re: The Pokémon Company Delivers 'Staggering' Financial Results

Krisi

@moodycat And kind of the opposite is true as well. New Pokémon Snap was the most oacked, lovingly made, high effort Pokémon game in many years... Yet it sold much less than the others. I can understand why Arceus sold so well, but why the minimum effort, barely-more-than-port gen 4 remakes?

Re: Soapbox: Help, I Can't Stop Buying Japanese Games I Don't Understand And Will Never Play

Krisi

This kind of saddens me. I mean sure, games do look awesome on shelves. But then again... games are made to be played. I buy quite some games, but I only get ones that I intend to play at some point. This was my very reason to start studying Japanese many years ago, and it remains to be possibly the strongest reason: there are just too many interesting and exciting Japanese exclusive games out there that I would really like to play.

Re: Nintendo To Launch Huge 'Spring Into Action' eShop Sale This Thursday (Europe)

Krisi

I'm hoping for a Kirby Fighters 2 sale...
It's never been on sale, and the 20 euro pricetag is a bit too steep for me.
If it does happen, I don't really see it dropping more than by 5 euros, but I would take it at that price... I mean I do have every single Kirby game there is, so I have to get this one as well.
...It's Kirby's 30th birthday tomorrow, after all.

Re: Pocky & Rocky Reshrined Launches This June, New Gameplay Trailer

Krisi

Already preordered it from Strictly Limited. It just looks so amazing.
Also loved the first SNES one... and this pretty much looks like that but with even more stuff and more visual flair.
I've also downloaded the GBA title Pocky & Rocky with Becky for the Wii U VC, because it's absurdly expensive in physical form... And if you're at least somewhat interested in that one, you'd better download it as well, because it's definitely not worth anything close to the physical price... The download price is pretty steep for what it is as well. It's a pretty lifeless, lazily thrown together game.

Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Is Apparently Japan's "Biggest" Kirby Launch Ever

Krisi

@NintendoWife Yes, there was a 2D Kirby on Switch before this, and while it was too multiplayer focused for its own good, it did have some great gameplay ideas, looked and sounded good, had tons of fanservice and hidden lore, and it had the absolute best "Arena" the series has ever seen - which might not mean much for most people, but they are one of the high points of Kirby games for me.

As for Woolly World - I think it had great level design, charming visuals, a great soundtrack, and some genuinely fun and creative ideas. My only real gripe was that they kept reusing some bosses. Crafted World was pretty similar, but it was a bit more focused on visuals, while the soundtrack were much inferior, and the level design was a bit less creative as well in my opinion.

And I think it can have some great results if they let other companies handle older IPs. For example, Retro Studios' Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country games are very much well-loved. So is the previously mentioned Kirby's Epic Yarn by Good-Feel. And if you ask me, last year's New Pokémon Snap by Bandai-Namco became easily one of the best Pokémon spinoff games, even though the company did not have much experience with the franchise.

Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Is Apparently Japan's "Biggest" Kirby Launch Ever

Krisi

@NintendoWife The gigantic Kirby fan might be speaking from me, but I have to disagree - I think most Kirby games were great or even amazing with very few "okay" titles throughout the entire 30-year history of the series.

Yoshi, however, I agree with. Island and Woolly World were fantastic, Story and Crafted World are pretty good, but everyting in between was just okay at best.

Re: Super Bomberman R Online Gets New Character And Battle Map

Krisi

@Link_of_Hyrule Yes. It was kind of weird how they didn't make one with the Castlevania, Contra, and Arcade ones...
If they had chosen a different kind of line up, I could have totally dug a collection with the Mr. Goemon arcade game, the first two Famicom games, Sarawareta Ebisumaru for the Game Boy, and the 4 SNES games. Even though the PS1 and N64 games would've been nice as well.

Re: Zavvi's New 'Pokémon Kanji Clothing Collection' Features Monochrome Gen 1 Starter Designs

Krisi

@LexKitteh Yeah, some Pokémon have pretty much English words as their Japanese names, so they couldn't really be written in kanji, but if we really want, these guys can be.
Bulbasaur is Fushigidane, which could be written as 不思議種, with 不思議, fushigi meaning mysterious, and 種 tane meaning seed.
Charmander is Hitokage, which could be written as 火蜥蜴, with 火 hi meaning fire, and 蜥蜴 tokage meaning lizard.
Squirtle is just Zenigame... Which is actually a Japanese word, 銭亀, meaning a young pond turtle.

But all Pokémon are officially written in katakana in Japanese, so an actual kanji clothing line would not really make any sense.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Ace Attorney Game?

Krisi

I've only played the first 5, but interestingly enough, Apollo Justice is the one I think I liked the most, even though it's far from a fan favorite. I'm torn between 1 and 3 being the second best. 5 was the weakest in my opinion, even though it was still great.

Re: Feature: Best WarioWare Microgames Ever

Krisi

Interesting opinion about the first Rhythm Tengoku being the best in the series. Even though it is an undeniable masterpiece, I felt that it was a series were each new game was even better than the previous one.
From the WarioWare series, the first one is actually the best in my opinion, but almost all are great.

Re: Rumour: Insider Says N64 Is Coming To Switch Online, Believes It Will Introduce A "Higher-Priced" Subscription Tier

Krisi

IF this ends up being true, I wonder if we will get the Goemon games. I mean the N64 has a relatively small library, and people seem to agree that the first Goemon game is a highlight on it, especially among games that were not made by Nintendo and aren't tied to an existing franchise. But it's kinda weird that no Goemon game was released in any region in either console pack. Come on Konami, release the Goemon collection you've been sitting on for years.

Re: Sakurai "Can't Count" How Many Times He's Thought About Quitting Game Development

Krisi

This just breaks my heart, as Sakurai is probably my favorite game developer ever.
Not only does he make Smash, which really bursts with content every time and I keep being amazed how well he makes them, but he is also responsible for my second favorite game ever, Kirby Super Star.
Not to mention the other games he made: Kirby's Dream Land is a great part of my childhood, Kirby's Adventure is just a fantastic game all around that really pushes the NES to it's limits, Kirby Air Ride is easily the best Kirby spinoff game (is what I would say if Dream Course didn't exist, those two are really close), Meteos is one of the most fun puzzle games I've played, and Kid Icarus Uprising is also a great game with more personality, humor, and ideas than two other games put together.
Sure, if he doesn't feel he's feeling great doing what he does, I absolutely support his retirement, but man, I wish he just kept making new games, he really understands what I like in a game.
