One of the standout releases during the Nintendo GameCube generation was Resident Evil 4. It's probably hard to believe nowadays, but back then the fourth mainline entry in Capcom's survival horror series was a temporary platform exclusive.
If you played the original in 2005, you might be interested to hear it's getting a remake. "Multiple development sources" have informed VGC that a next-generation version has now entered "full production" - with an estimated release window of 2022.
Development is reportedly being handled by the Osaka-based studio M-Two (not to be confused with the emulation experts over at M2). This new studio was founded by the Tatsuya Minami - the former head of PlatinumGames, and the team (comprised of ex-Platinum and Capcom staff) has supposedly been preparing for this project since 2018. It also helped out with the Resident Evil 3 remake, and Capcom's internal and external teams are expected to assist with its new project.
Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami has given the remake his blessing and provided some informal advice on its direction, even though he apparently declined the role of project lead due to commitments with Bethesda’s GhostWire: Tokyo.
The platforms this game will be released on haven't been revealed yet, but given the track record of the previous remakes, it's unlikely to appear on the Nintendo Switch. Capcom was previously asked if the Resident Evil 2 remake would ever show up on the Switch but said it had no plans at the time and wanted to focus on the systems the game had been announced for.
Nintendo fans looking for some Resident Evil action on the Switch can still download the original versions - which were ported to the system last year - via the eShop. Do you think an RE4 remake can match the GameCube original? Tell us below.

Not too enthused about this one considering RE4 has aged really quite well.
...Great, my least favorite Resi evil is getting leased out again.
Cause we needed a remake of that one.
How about CV instead ?
Sony fans need their gwaficks. Next gen, they will all be wanting a FF7 remake remaster lol.
This should have the rumour tag instead of news. It’s not been confirmed.
was banking on code veronica
Besides lessening the awkward quick time events. There's not much to improve upon from what I can see.
@unovachamp90
Same.
Unlike 4 which is available on everything right now with it's best mate, Skyrim.
CV is only available on the DC, Cube and ps2.
@Captain_Toad
The story ?
NOT offing Umbrella off screen and reducing them to an after thought ?
The annoying escort mission, the second half of the game descends in to ?
I'd rather they just add gyro controls to the Switch port.
@KitsuneNight Code Veronica’s also on PS3 and PS Now. I streamed it on my PS4 to play it.
@GrailUK Sony? RE is one of the most multiplat series around.
@KitsuneNight Code Veronica is also in HD on PSN. CV should've been the next remake. I adore 4, so this is still cool. Maybe one day they'll remake the digital rectal cancer that is RE6. 🤮
The first level was such a frantic change of pace from the other games. Diving through windows, barricading doors. Then it all goes quiet. So tense. I found it much more terrifying than walking away from zombies in bad camera angles (still loved those games though!). If they can develop this further, then a remake could be amazing. If it's just a fresh lick of paint, I could live with the original. It's amazing.
@EVIL-C true, but remake won't be coming to Switch lol.
Was thinking code Veronica would have been next logical remake. I will only accept a Resi 4 remake if they do not cut bits out (like Resi 3 remake has) in order to release "in time". Take your sweet time and make sure it is a worthy remake that improves and fleshes out the original. The likeliest change will be to have Ada's sections spliced seamlessly into the story or have a few sections with Lewis in to flesh him out more, making his demise all the sadder.
RE 4 didn't need a remake! What's next remake RE 5, 6?
How bout we remake Chrono trigger? Link to the past, Earthbound?
As long as we are remaking everything. Sheesh!
A remake suggests making the game again from scratch. Whether is is the same game or just the name is the same. Who know?
The Switch can't play new games without stripping them right back, but with progress maybe in 2027 it will find its way to Nintendo's console then.
If you are desperate to play it, the PS 5 is a good console to invest in. I don't think Switch owners give a hoot what is being released in 2022, when they don't even know what to expect this year.
They did a great job with RE2 remake, so any remake is a welcome including RE4. It would be nice if they considered RE0 as well.
I played both RE4 and RE0 only on gamecube and I enjoyed my time with them back in the days so I am not sure how they have aged.
If the release date isn't for a couple more years. Who knows maybe it won't make the switch but might make Nintendos next bit of hardware.
Once resident evil 7 is remade... Will they remake the first one again?
I want RE2 remake (not 3, I don´t care about 3) on Switch first. Later, we talk about all this stuff.
RE Remakes are the only way for me to play RE2 and 3, really expensive whatever the version now and 10 years ago (I've been following their prices), but RE4 I have on Wii. And well, it was exclusive to GameCube, but only for a while. Misleading headline.
Resi 4 doesn't need a remake.
Code Veronica, on the other hand, is in desperate need of some modern-gen love.
Cool, but...why not Code Veronica?
@AJ1 Played RE0 (for the first time) just a couple months ago. It was a lot of fun, with a couple major issues that could be well addressed in a remake.
If they just improve the visuals, then that's great. If they actually try to mess with anything else, they're bound to make it worse.
I'd prefer a proper remake of Code Veronica in the style of these last 2 remakes.
Capcom should devote their time and money to make a new RE8. Companies these days are just remaking things over and over, it's like they ran out of ideas.
RE4 is one of my favourite games... playing it for the first time on the GameCube? Absolutely blew me away, when the village came to ‘life’, being attacked and chased through buildings, taking it on to the roof, your man firing up the chainsaw?! Awesome experience. Wii Edition was even better... but I actually can’t bring myself to get it again on Switch in case I don’t enjoy it as much, and it ruins the memories for me!
Not surprised this won't be coming to the Switch. The latest games these clowns want to scam Nintendo fans with is a mobile port of a game they sell on the App Store for less than half the price they are trying to scam us with. It's a terrible game too.
Capcom has been shafting Nintendo fans since 2017.
Every game they have released for the system has been over priced, many of them are just badly ported too. They have the audacity to dangle more support over our heads like carrots and only give us more support if we buy their crap games, then when we buy it we get MORE BAD GAMES.
They went from making dedicated games for the 3ds to making old lazy over priced ports on the Switch.
I am glad they have actually stopped supporting the Switch so much too. That mobile port seems to be the last game planned for the Switch this year.
People are starting to see them for what they are. Bunch of scam artists.
@AmplifyMJ it's so sub par on the Switch.
Like the main version of the game is the Wii version, and they had a chance to make the Switch port just as good or better than that, with the joy cons they could have added motion controls.
Instead the version we get is actually the worst one they have put on any Nintendo console.
And it's 12+ gigs... Why is a lazily ported version of RE4 more than 12 gigs....?
These guys are clowns.
"They should really remake CV instead"
Or, you know, they can stop beating around the bush and make 8...
A massive case of butthurt abounds
Why is every Nintendo site reporting this? It's not like it'll come to switch unless Nintendo gives it a massive power upgrade
@Zeldafan79
Lol I downloaded resi 4 on the shop 5 days ago and have been playing it non-stop. Hadn't played it in over 10 years. It's still a masterpiece. Probably the most satisfying shooting of any game I've played (either resi 4 or goldeneye).
I was happy to hear a rumor that Capcom were working on Resident Evil 8. This... not so much.
Resident Evil 4 might just be the finest third person action game ever made. The tank controls are actually really great and everything still feels basically perfect. Ashley’s AI is limited but it’s simple enough to command her movement around the map or just hide her somewhere.
So I’m not seeing anything they could really improve other than the visuals, which is not justifation enough for a full remake.
Playing this game for the first time via the Switch port. It's quite intense!
Good, because Re4 started a terrible trend. Make it into a proper survival horror, and make it less linear.
@NoTinderLife I would rather have updated classics than another mess like Re5 and Re6. Not to mention, a lot of good concepts were poorly executed in classic games (Re4 being a prime example).
@GrailUK Final Fantasy Remake is far different for the original. Remakes are good.
Actually, this is my personal favorite. That’s why I don’t think it needs a reboot.
Doesn’t need it . It’s like remaking super Mario world or something x x x x x
@tendonerd probably.
Resident Evil 4 is played on potatoes at this point, why even mention the Gamecub? It just reeks of of Nintendo fanboy fragility.
@Razer Capcom hasn't been shafting Nintendo fans, Nintendo has been shafting Nintendo fans. The Switch just isn't powerful enough to run new games. Capcom doesn't bother with the Switch because they make plenty of money making games for Xbox and PS4 and don't want to be bothered creating entirely new development teams to make something that will (unless they put Mario or Link in it) sell poorly.
If you want to play the big boy games, you'll need a big boy console. Gaming exclusively with Nintendo is a road to gaming unhappiness.
You mean the one that doesn't need a remake at all?
I think is useless even report this news here, they never brought the remake of 2 and 3 so we will never see the remake of 4 as well
@GrailUK Surely you're referring to the Xbox fans who rely on graphics to be relevant in any gaming discussion? Sony and Nintendo fans play well together.
I said on the PS site, if this is true it won't be as automatically loved as RE2 and 3 have been. The original RE2 and 3 are such a departure from modern game design that remaking them leaves loads of room for change without real scrutiny. And this has the effect of giving a fresh experience to an old game.
Remaking RE4 means that the designers have to either remake the game barely changing anything, keeping level designs and combat gameplay the same, or they change everything. And both directions have a real possibility of upsetting people. Just by virtue of already being an OTS shooter horror, gamers will be making direct comparisons between the games. This kind of remake will not be able to live outside of RE4's shadow. And this is only compounded by RE4's popularity and critical acclaim.
The best option would be the former. To do an extensive remaster or 'faithful remake'. A distinction I have to make since RE2 and 3 were (and still are) called remakes while they are in fact 'reimaginings'. Effectively just updating the graphics and adding in a more robust control system.
It's worth noting that out of RE0, 1, CVX, 4, 5, and 6. RE4 is the game that needs it least.
@Yogsoggoth so tell me why Capcom supported the 3DS over the Vita when the Vita was more powerful?
How come Sqaure isn't shafting Nintendo fans?
It's not like the Switch isn't selling and it's not like Nintendo doesn't have a strong audience for MH...
Your comment just seems to me like this is a lame excuse. They made games exclusive to the 3DS. While the Vita was rotting away so that entire logic just makes no sense at all as they did the exact opposite there.
Obviously something else happened that we have not been aware of, something around that request Capcom made from Nintendo when the Switch was still in development about their hardware. I doubt we heard all of that story.
Because between the 3DS (the least powerful handheld at the time) where they gave us huge support and the Switch where they gave us no support on the most powerful handheld... Yeah your logic makes no sense mate.
@Yogsoggoth and you can't exactly say "yeah but the 3DS sold better so that's why they supported it over the Vita"
Because the Switch isn't selling well...?
An exclusive MH game on the Switch would easily be the best selling 3rd party game on the Switch by miles...
If true, very cool, and if only it it comes to switch as well. We already didn't get Re2 and Re3, so another one would certainly sting. But realistically, id prefer re8
Gave up on this series a long time ago. I think people are too forgiving of it because of the two or three games that actually were any good.
I feel like this is one of those games that doesn't need a remake just yet, right now it still holds up remarkably well, the gameplay in particular is pretty timeless.
@GoblinKing86 not based on my experience. Xbox fans just hate PS fans, but PS fans just feel better than everybody.
And the fits I've seen them throw over having the "best" hardware. Ever since the PS3 was meant to be stronger than the 360, but couldn't cut it in multiplats they went haywire. Constantly lording the Sony titles, then the PS4 being slightly stronger than the xbone (laughing at people playing in 900p rather than 1080p). And even just recently, when the specs for the next gen consoles were revealed and it looked like the xbox would have th advantage once again. All of a sudden half "never cared" while the other half only seem to appear when you get a random developer praising the PS5. Especially in the case of the one that touted it as being better, but then deleted that.
First, this is a rumor, don’t publish it as “news”. Second, I do believe RE4 doesn’t need a remake, considering the fact that it’s gameplay was the canvas were the last two remakes of the series were drawn on. A remake would mean a change of gameplay. What are they going to do? Make it a FPS, like RE7? This game has nothing to be improved on, and, by looking at RE3 Remake, they would trim stuff from the game so that they can sell a crappy online game alongside it. So, no thank you.
Resident Evil 4 started out modern. It's already been rereleased on Wii with motion control aiming (that actually made it too easy) and it was already rerereleased as remaster in HD. What is there to add/change? They could add the newer(ish) resident evil mechanic of being able to slowly walk around with weapon drawn while shooting...so an entire remake just for that lol. I'm in!
@liljmoore
Sites care more about clicks and ad revenue than giving articles to its target audience.
RE2 remake was fantastic. RE3 not so much from what I've read. It should have been a DLC release for RE2 as it's over that quickly. Whatever Crapcom decide to do with RE4 it won't be on the Switch,so this is pointless anyway. The Switch is the console for their overpriced, don't give a crap ports
Not everything needs to be remade. I responded to this rumor the same way I responded to another rumor about a Link to the Past remake. "Why?"
@GoblinKing86 If I'm being transparent, I only used Sony fans so I could say 'FF7 remake remaster' because of how ridiculous a title it would be lol.
Eh? It won't be coming to the Switch so I am not interested.
If it's good, it's good.
If it's not they can just keep selling the original.
Not sure why this rumour is being reported here, as it is highly unlikely to be coming to the Switch if it really is happening, just like REmake 2 & 3.
On that note, RE4 doesn’t need to be remade. This endeavour would be to solely to “pretty it up” by using their new RE engine if anything, but Code Veronica or even Dino Crisis would better off being remade instead (also highly unlikely to come to the Switch if they were remade).
I’m not surprised Capcom would try it. My opinion: big waste of time and money. The original holds up so well, why change it?
Unless... is it a “remake”? Then, I’d be for
It!
There are some FF7 fans who are EXTREMELY butt-hurt over the Remake.
I played the original in 2005 and loved it. I beat it twice, which was very rare for me back then.
@KitsuneNight THAAAAAAAAANK YOU... I actually think that Resi 4 is the only RE title I have yet to beat because I just didnt really care for the game
I would imagine the rumours are referring to the "fourth" Resident Evil game, meaning Code Veronica — Resi 4 has been remastered and rereleased up the wazoo, and doesn't really require a ground up redo in the same way 2 and 3 have.
@locky-mavo but man would I love to see a RE:CV and DC remake!!!
RE4 Remake isn't coming to Switch (or PS4 or XBO as it will most likely be next-gen exclusive).
@Dezzy I wouldn’t mind if they took away some of the cheese, like running away from that giant statue.
@KitsuneNight code Veronica is actually available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, GameCube, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Seems a bit pointless
@KitsuneNight its on ps3 store remastered so you forgot that
@nessisonett @KitsuneNight it’s also on Xbox one as an Xbox 360 digital title.
@Wavey84 I think I used to have that opinion, but what Resident Evil games are genuinely scary other than 1 (creepy mansion) and 7? They are better at building tension than the psychological dread of something like Silent Hill or Amnesia.
Most of the time these games feel like B- movies with ridiculous villains and impossibly good looking heroes.
Leon and Salazar leave an impression on you because of their ridiculous codec conversations in RE4. So although I agree RE5 wasn’t up to par (they just made Wesker into a “Agent Smith” knockoff), the ridiculousness paid off in RE4.
It’s going to be a switch exclusive
Waste of a remake. Re4 and above (including the Revelations series) don't need remakes. Code Veronica should be their last RE remake.
If Capcom wants to improve Re4 all they gotta do is add gyro controls to the Switch version (like they did with Re5 and 6) so it can actually attempt to best its definitive Wii version.
And it won't come to Switch, how nice
@NotTelevision I agree (except for 1 and 7 being scary, they tried, but they weren't), the camp is part of what makes Resident Evil so fun. If it wasn't for the B movie horror stuff the story of RE4 wouldn't be memorable at all. As for RE5, Wesker in that game is my favorite villain in the entire series, I'm not ashamed to admit that.
Low chance of coming to Switch but that's okay, the original is still very excellent and I don't really need a remake of it.
However, they better make Luis playable in Mercenaries this time.
Personally I'd prefer they finish RE3 before moving on. Seems they forgot to put half the game on the disk.
Resident Evil 4 is a perfect game for the most part, don't see the need for a remake at all. Considering the Wii version is the best version, without motion controls it's going to be baaaaaad, much like the aiming on the recent remakes is baaaaaaad.
@AnnoyingFrenzy I like Wesker as the guy calling the shots in the background, but in RE5 he felt like a less fun and more plain villain than the oddballs of RE4. Maybe I’d have a different opinion now though.
RE7 is a crazy and ridiculous premise, but I think it shocked and unsettled me more than any other RE game. A lot of the shocks did feel a bit cheap(trying too hard to overwhelm you), but the performance capture is quite good and there is a sense of unpredictability to it. The found footage segments (although done a million times in movies) were effective in making the experience feel more realistic and tangible. So it is more scary than the other games for me, but not as replayable.
I’m super excited to see what they do with this. As others have pointed out it’s a remake so they can push it into interesting new places. No matter what I’m sure it’ll be brilliant.
Honestly excited to see RE4 running in a similar visual style/fidelity to the Remakes.
@Wavey84 Yeah the gameplay of Silent Hill 1 & 2 is clunky as ever. Too bad the talent at Konami left long ago, because a remake of those games would be awesome. In their current state, they should just focus on remastering their classics for newer consoles.
@NotTelevision Wesker would have been boring to me if it wasnt for his dialogue. "FOUND YOU" "You're merely delaying the inevitable!" "Complete. Global. Saturation." It was a riot.
RE7 Would have been scary, but then they decided to make Ethan talk. His dialogue completely removes all of the tension in the game for me. That and some small things like all injuries being healed my magic goop you pour on your wrist keeps it from being genuinely scary to me.
@AnnoyingFrenzy Haha. I’m going to YouTube to watch that scene pronto.
@Wavey84 I completely agree. None of the Resi games had dialogue I felt matched the situation at hand. That's all part of the charm to me though. There were several parts of the RE2 remake that felt like the Capcom writers didn't know what human conversations actually sounded like.
@Wavey84 Yeah, but I also feel like Capcom doesn't want to remake those because there's less money in it. It's funny, the games that need to be remade the most get remade last, if at all because they already have the stigma of being bad, or at least forgettable, that nobody would buy the remake even if it was good.
I am almost certain that a mediocre remake of RE4 would beat a great remake of RE0 in terms of sales, and that's all that Capcom really cares about in the end.
I understand remaking 2 and 3. Their engines and controls became a barrier for new gamers and they needed to be updated.
But 4? That game still holds up very well even after almost 20 years. Of course that they are doing it because of the success of 2 and 3 but still...is a useless idea.
RE4 was my first RE game. It was also my last. I liked it on the Gamecube, but I didn't like the way the game progressed after a certain point. Unlike my favorite game on the Gamecube, Metroid Prime, I could never go back to RE4. Some of the design choices later in the game didn't work for me. If they remaster it and want to take out the QTEs, especially the more complex ones, I wouldn't complain about that. People say RE4 has aged well, but I think that applies more for parts of the game, but not so much for the QTEs. But that's the sort of thing that falls under "your mileage may vary".
4 don’t need no remake; Code Veronica do though.
@Wavey84 I think it would be safer just to make a story around Edward or Enrico to be its own game. I know RE0 isn't the most popular game in the franchise, but I know it has its fair share fans and I don't think Capcom would want to alienate them so a RE0 remake would still retain the same characters, scenarios, bosses, etc, just update the graphics and gameplay. I get it though, Rebecca is not the most interesting, or particularly good, main protag in the series.
It still wont be as good as the Wii version
Just came in to say that every game doesn't need a remake.
Especially all your favorite ones from yesteryear.
Upon reading this article's headline, I received a phone call from 2002. Someone calling himself Capcom Five said, "Stir not the bitterness in the cup that I mixed for myself!"
Remember when asked if RE4 would appear on any other system besides Gamecube, Shinji Mikami said if it ever did he would cut his own head off?
Good times.
I already played it
RE4 doesn't need a remake. Maybe a minor update like being able to strafe. But then again it's the quirkyness of the gameplay that makes it special (like a mixture of old and new).
Edit: Maybe take a cue from RE5 and use the d-pad for selecting (selected) weapons.
Those renakes are not releasing on the Switch... so, since Switch is now my only platform, it is irrelevant to me. Sorry, CAPCOM!
@Yogsoggoth
If you want to play the big boy games, you'll need a big boy console. Gaming exclusively with Nintendo is a road to gaming unhappiness
And you were telling others they reek of fanboyism?
You’re about to get a lecture from me.
This is one of the most childish comments I’ve ever seen. There is no such thing as “big boy games”. Unless you’re 12 years old. No sane adult has that kind of mindset because sane adults play all kinds of games regardless of their graphical prowess.
Not to mention those “big boy consoles” you speak of, are mainly targeted at younger kids who can’t afford proper gaming PCs.
Most people here have at least one other console or PC. Just because it doesn’t come to switch doesn’t mean people are missing out. Switch was never meant to get the latest cutting-edge graphics games in the first place. Just like the game boy advance wasn’t meant to get N64 games. But it doesn’t need them because it’s got so many amazing games already, and 7th gen AAA games are a much better fit for a hybrid portable console anyways.
But for the record plenty of people game exclusively Nintendo and are more happy than you’ll ever be. It’s just a fact. Trying to insult people who prefer Nintendo is one of the most childish things you could possibly do. I think you’re just upset seeing people more happy with their switch than you are with your self proclaimed “big boy console”. All your fifth grade classmates might buy into that nonsense, but around here people don’t have time for that kind of childish propaganda.
But you could make the same argument against anyone who games on any system exclusively. Unless you own everything you’re literally going to be missing out. If you game exclusively on PlayStation you’re missing out on some of the best games ever made. If you game exclusively on Xbox you’re missing out on some of the best games ever made. Do you game exclusively on Nintendo you’re missing out on some of the best games ever made.
But some people are OK with that, because their one console gives them more than enough, and if they already have more than enough, why do they need some other console?
This is why I game only on switch and PC. Because it’s more than enough. I’m selling my PlayStation and Xbox games because I never play them because they don’t offer Gyro. I’ve got more than enough games on PC where I can play them with better graphics than you can, with Gyro, and on switch where I can play them with more freedom and versatility. The other consoles don’t offer anything in comparison.
The thing is, I’m not on a PlayStation or Xbox site trying to tell everyone else how much of a fanboy they are while touting the systems I play as being “big boy consoles”.
Grow up.
@shgamer I hated RE5 when it first released, but after RE6 I went back to it and found that RE5 did a few things absolutely perfectly. Namely, the controls. Right stick aiming, slow pace, very slow strafe, dpad weapon select. At its very core, the gameplay is great. It's mostly the action orientated design and poor story that let it down.
Give the game a proper inventory system, and level design that focused on horror and puzzles (a la lost in nightmares) and you'd have a great basis for a game.
I just beat 5 (again) and I agree with the comment above but the story is also great, the only "problem" with 5 is that it's a shooter with just one puzzle where you have to think a little bit and that the survival horror is nowhere to be found (the inventory system in real time can be frustrating, too) but it's a brilliant game that does some things better than 4. I also liked 6 more than most people but of course it's not a focused game but has a lot of good parts. 4 is not flawless, the last third part is a bit repetitive and the camera is fixed and pointing a bit upwards. 7 is great but I miss the old characters and I'm not a fan of the first-person view. 2 Remake is awesome and I haven't played 3 Remake yet. Zero is a bit frustrating because of the small inventory space and continuous backtracking and, in my opinion, 1 Remake is the best Resident Evil game (and one of the best games ever). Code Veronica is the most fascinating entry and the only one that really needs a remake now.
@Yogsoggoth I mean, none of that is true.
1) The Switch has constantly been proven to run game that we didn't think it could. Kinda with Skyrim, but really starting with Doom.
2) Those games have been successful too. We are about to get Doom again, after having all previous Doom games release on the system. We've just had Witcher 3 numbers and the Switch version has sold quite well over the last year.
3) Capcom are bothering with the system. They've already released 7 (I believe) RE titles on the system. And more titles beyond just that franchise.
4) You don't need to create entirely new dev teams. Several companies are making their bread and butter being 'switch port companies'. Panic Button, Sabre Interactive, and Virtuos being three that come to mind.
I'd imagine that whether or not Capcom puts the new RE games on Switch is more of a ROI issue, and whether they want to commit to the product to maximise those profits, or use that investment on more "big boy" releases which has a higher return.
Ok so, it stopped being an exclusive the moment Sony griped about it and demanded a PS2 version with exclusive content.
Capcom however is full of $нjт for this! Now this will be the FOURTH TIME this SAME GAME has been created!!! Yet Capcom griped about poor Wii sales being cause for concern despite stellar GameCube sales. OF COURSE IDIOTS! Nobody wants to keep making repeat purchases!🤦♂️
@Zeldafan79 nnnnnnope. May as well abandon all hope for a Chrono Trigger remake. The👑👾 will kill us all before that.
@JaxonH not sure what's sadder. That you wrote it or you thought I would actually read it.
But yeah, if you want to play the big games, you'll need the big consoles and that is going to be even more apparent when the PS5 and NextBox come out.
@Richnj
4) it's not an issue of ROI. It's an issue of the Switch not being able to run it without melting in your hands.
@Richnj As it is Capcom here, I doubt it's an ROI issue. They put Revelations Collection, Origins Collection, and the RE Triple pack on all three major platforms yet they haven't put any of the "modern" remakes on all three. Do they think the switch is only good enough for the collection packs and not good enough for the remakes?
@Yogsoggoth have you ever broken down a switch and done a performance test? Or have any benchmark charts to determine that? Or just repeating the common opinion? Because clearly as @richnj pointed out the switch is handling several games that ppl thought would "melt it". It's not so much about the hardware as it is about a developer's skills in mitigating hardware limitations. Skilled devs know how to get around problems like that. They know where to and where not to make certain adjustments to provide a solid product. But some devs out there don't want to put in that kind of time and effort (i.e. too lazy to do their jobs and just want to collect a paycheck and go home) which is why they contract other dev studios to do the work instead. I.e. Shiver Entertainment (MK11 Switch) Panic Button (Doom, Wolfenstein, Warframe etc)
Now, if these other, less established devs can do it why can't the MORE established devs with access to more money and resources AND more experience AND bigger teams do it?
To put that into perspective, remember when Midway Games (Now Netherrealm Studios) went bankrupt? After WB bought out Ed Boon and co. notice their games improved GREATLY. That's because they got access to WB resources and manpower. Shiver Entertainment doesn't have that luxury, yet was able to deliver Netherrealm Studios own game with LESS than what Netherrealm Studios has... 🤔
@Yogsoggoth
The only thing I think is sad is your response and lack of ability to take a look in the mirror and see the same childish behavior everyone else sees, but given what you originally posted I dont find it surprising in the slightest.
Of course those systems (or a gaming PC) will be needed to play the graphically demanding games. Everyone is well aware of that. It's like pointing out the sky is blue.
The question is why you're so intent on telling everyone this, as if people are supposed to act surprised? People already know good and well which games are on which systems. If that's what they want, that's what they'll buy. If that's not what they want, then they won't buy. But you're acting like you're so much smarter than everyone else for owning a different system. You're not. If that's what people wanted that's what they would have chosen to buy.
@Wavey84 I have not enough time to play on various platforms. I know I'm missing out some games but they are missing out my money if they don't go all the way with those releases.
Meh, they need to remake Code Veronica X first though, RE4 still holds very well in the modern generation so no remake is necessary but since they really need them dollars I guess they would go all out. The RE3 remake on the otherhands was disappointing.
It's like when Disney is releasing the remakes of their famous movies. The new looks the best, but the old one will always have a place in our hearts.
@JaxonH Don't bother with that user, he's just trolling. Why anyone spends time on a Nintendo fansite, posting comments like that, is beyond me. I thought playing "big boy" games made one a big boy, but it seems I was mistaken.
@TeddySwolesevelt right, but those games already have last and current versions, meaning assets and ports already exist. Making the porting easier, and therefore cheaper. Building a Switch version of 7, 2, and 3 would require building new assets and time to work out the technical hurdles to getting the game running properly (thinking Saber porting Witcher and finding it running at 10fps). That equals money.
Also, look at the price tag they put if those RE games. Twice or even three times the price of their other current gen versions. And that's for both digital and physical, while still using cheap methods such as using a small (and cheap) card.
To me, ROI is the only thing that explains Capcom's choices when it comes to their handling of RE games on Switch.
yeah maybe its little early for a total remake. The HD remaster feels a lilttle dated "mostly cause there's not havoc level effects" but its still looks good.
i remember playing Resident Evil 4 for iphone like 9-10 years ago. It was terrible. Think they removed it from store after few months. It was kinda nostalgic though cause it was so bad like hat gameboy port of Resident Evil
If it’s as good as the RE1 RE2 and RE3 remakes, then I’m game for a remake of RE4. Bring it on.
@KitsuneNight CV is considered a side story by Capcom hence it recieved no number.
@NoNoseNosferatu When RE4 came out, it was already miles better than the RE1 remake which also came out on GameCube in that same gen so yeah we don't need a remake of it otherwise they might as well just remake RE1 again.
Capcom can no longer be original , sooooo
RE$
@Razer they still had games on the Vita. Honestly, making any sort of dedicated game for the switch is going to cost resource. That's why most games aren't coming to the switch, and most companies aren't making games for it. It's not just capcom. Some teams can afford to allocate resources and money to make a lower quality version of their games for switch, but that's not the normal and don't plan on it every being.
@JaxonH No, what's childish is having to include that Resident Evil 4 was a Gamecube exclusive in the title of the article. What's also childish is insisting that every game can run on the Switch, but the lazy developers won't put in the hard work for... reasons.
Claiming that everyone knows what is on every system and they buy that system and are fine with what they miss is flat out delusional. Nintendo fans are always crying about this or that game not coming to the Switch. Even in this thread they're crying about it. I guess you must have missed all that when you scanned through the comments to seek out people that are critical of Nintendo.
Remember the meltdown about Persona 5?
@Yogsoggoth
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Resident evil 4 was a gamecube exclusive originally. That’s just an objective fact and I have no idea why it bothers you so much to hear it.
I also don’t see anyone insisting every game can run on the switch. It’s just an article about a game. You’re going off the deep end here over stuff that I don’t even know what you’re talking about.
I didn’t scan any comments to seek out people that are critical. I don’t give a crap if somebody is critical but this isnt about being critical, this is about you telling other people they’re a fanboy while you yourself make the biggest fanboy comment I’ve ever seen.
Of course Nintendo fans are always talking about wanting games on switch. Because nearly everything is more awesome when you can play it on a hybrid system. Doesn’t mean they can’t play it elsewhere it just means they want to play it on this system more. And even if they can’t play it elsewhere because they do only own one system, so what? That just goes to show they’re not interested in playing those games if they have to be stuck on a television to do it.
What’s it to you?
And yes I remember the meltdown over Persona, from maybe one or two dozen fanatics on the Internet? So what? You can’t cherry pick a few kids on the Internet they don’t know how to keep their emotions or expectations in check and then try to use them as an example to justify anything you say or do. It’s the Internet you’re always going to find a handful of people that say or believe just about anything.
But on that note, I do think persona 5 is going to come to NSW by the end of this generation, and I just wonder if that’s going to bother some people.
@liveswired From what I remember, CV was the real RE3, and RE3 was the side story, but pressure from Sony wanting the next mainline RE game to be PS exclusive caused Capcom to rename the titles.
That's why CV feels like something new, and RE3 is more like an RE2 expansion.
Meh. I've never played RE4 but everyone keeps saying it still holds up to this day so aside from updating the graphics and character models (like replacing Leon with the actor they used in REmake2), a full remake seems unnecessary when Code Veronica is the only main series game to not get a release on current gen.
@retro_player_77 I will stand by what I said. I’m sure it’ll be a treat.
@Richnj There are alot of misconceptions. RE3 takes place before Code Veronica as far as I recall. RE3 is also arguably better than Code Veronica, which is massively overrated simply because it arrived on Dreamcast.
I think there are too much muddy waters now over what was what due to it being on Dreamcast - so many Sega fanboys have been vigourosly and furiously rewriting gaming history online this past few years. To the point now they'd have everyone believe Saturn was some untapped 3D powerhouse. Capcom never considered CV as their third game.
@Wavey84 RE Remake on GCN is absolutely stunning on CRT is you used a GCN RGB cable, browns, golds, metals, deep green foliage all shine through - if you played it, you likely used a composite cable like most youtubers, which is fuzzy and lifeless in all games. Of course the PS1 version has character but I always preferred RE Remake on GCN.
The rerelease on Switch/PS4/xbox/pc is no different other than cropping for 16:9 and outputting at 1080p.

RE3 most definitely started out as a spin off title. Hence the subtitle of 'Nemesis', the location, and the prequel nature of the game.

Not everyone agrees that CV was RE3, they all do agree that RE3 was a side story until plans changed and Capcom needed RE3 to release on the PSone. That's not Sega fans rewriting history.
@Wavey84 I'm assuming you're NTSC, S-video is definitely better than composite. It doesn't have the horrible fuzz for a start and is sharper with higher contrast however it is no patch on RGB scart in terms of colour, there is a depth, contrast, detail and richness to the output on PAL GameCubes via good quality RGB scart cable in any TV that supports RGB, including cheap sets - Trinitron was the go to TV until Sonys patents run out in mid 90's, however many other companies successfully replicated and improved trinitron design after this. It's just something you have to see for yourself, yes its not as bold and colourful as the originals, but the colours on Resi GCN when output through RGB scart are rich and deep.
The Wii via component is also known to be at a reduced quality to GCN RGB Scart as component was a last minute addition to the Wii.
I see the HD rereleases have enhanced textures and models, my mistake, I played through 0 and didn't even notice, I thought the only difference was the 1080P output and superior digital signal offered by HDMI.
@Richnj @Richnj sorry pardna just now seeing this. thing is, it's already been established that the Switch is fairly easy to port to. I'll bring to mind how Doom and MK11 went. A few cuts here and there but they run fine. So although you are right about the resources needed to put into it, that's only if we are talking about projects that have already been completed or are too close to completion to get started on a port (for example as was supposedly the case with Soul Calibur 6) As you said those other games already had ports and assets ready. BUT the "remakes" however were just recently started as of the Switch's current existence and are being completely remade from the ground up anyway. I could understand if they started remaking these games long before the switch dev kits were even made available then yeah it would require more resources allocated to the project because it would be already deep into production. But just like MK11/Switch was developed "alongside" the PS4 and XB1 versions, the modern RE remakes could also have been developed for Switch alongside the PS4 and XB1 versions. They just chose "not to". In other words, Crapcom started specifically from the ground up {on the RE3 remake for instance} for specifically every current platform EXCEPT Switch. Yet had they started with ALL the major platforms in mind from the beginning it would be the same team working on it meaning no additional resources, or they could have handed the Switch version project to another studio just like Netherrealm handed the Switch version of MK11 to Shiver Entertainment and have all ports released within the same timeframe or close to it. If ED BOON is willing to do THAT for NINTENDO, ANYONE can!! 😂 But instead they know they are running out of ideas (have been since 2009) and don't really want to work so they rely on the "Powerhouse consoles" to deliver graphics as their major priority. To show this, why are there so many remakes in the first place when they could use those same resources to just do a brand new sequel or different game altogether? A brand new game can't possibly cost more time, effort, or resources than a completely rebuilt remake because either way it goes both are still gonna be totally new code, new engines, a new dev team etc. The only difference is that a remake is an R&D time saver in that it's an already done idea. it's so much easier to remaster an old painting than it is to originate a brand new one. Now THAT would be the ROI issue. 😂
