Nintendo's "bonus one-off" Splatfest for Splatoon 2 has come to an end, so who won? Team ketchup has emerged from this saucy battle victorious, with a 2-1 win. It makes up for its original loss to team mayo way back in 2017.
As you can see in the final results below, ketchup won on votes (55.25%) and also got the most wins in the pro matches (50.38%), while mayo took out the normal games (51.71%).
Now that Splatfest is over, your special themed tee shirt will be returned. And if you were on the winning side, be sure to collect your 5 x Super Sea Snails. Keep in mind, this was a one-time event, so don't expect Splatfest to become a regular thing again.
Congratulations to team ketchup - were you on the winning side? Did you even participate? Tell us down below.

Good to see the right team come out on top this time. Now do rematches of all the other Splatfests please Nintendo.
Wow even though the votes were in favour in ketchup by a LOT, mayo still won the most normal battles
Balance has been restored.
I was 1 win off being Ketchup Queen ;-; Ah well, but I still had loads of fun!
@playstation_king Votes don't impact that. It's not like everyone was pitched against everyone else in a battle royale style. In that case the numbers would make a difference. But it's still 4-on-4; so whether one team has more players in total doesn't really matter.
It's just means that you'll spend more time in the lobbying room as team ketchup, or you were pitched against your own team; so ketchup vs ketchup.
Was fun even though we lost, but not by a lot. I think overall I had more wins than loses, so it's ok
Would very much like to rematch all the Splatfests - mainly because of the special Shifty Station stages! I always look forward to playing those
Mayo is better.
Tho I’ve heard mayo in the USA tastes way different than it does in europe.
So for any american, european mayo actually tastes good.
Good, I dislike Mayo.
Boooooooooooooooooooooo
I only participated in the normal turfwar, so for me it’s like I’ve won 😂
No but for real, I’ve had so much fun this weekend! Hopefully we get one more Splatfest sometime.
I like both, so I picked ketchup just cause I like red more than white. lol
Go Team Ketchup!!!
This Splatfest reminded me of just how awesome this game is, I think I'll be playing it quite a lot the days lol
Great subheader btw 👌🏻
A truly tragic day.
And that's where I'll leave it, you'll be free today from my extensive lecturing of how mayo is clearly better and more versatile.
Wrongs have been righted today! Truly the best splatfest victory! Now if only I could have won the "Final" splatfest.
Hellmann’s will get it’s revenge! See you in Splat the third!
I did my part, and won two 10x battles for Mayo.
I really, really hope they do more Splatfests, or bring out Splatoon 3. This is, by a country mile, my most played game.
For the first time since they introduced the feature, I got put in to a x100 round and actually mangaed to win by a difference of 1%. I don't think I have ever, or will ever play a more intense match of Splatoon. (salmon run doesn't count, since those are always intense)
I'm not sure exactly how the numbers are determined, but with the Pro matches being so close to each other, I feel like that win may have made a difference.
This was a lot of fun. Really hope there is more. The original run of these seemed to end too soon.
I love Splatfests. Picked ketchup so glad we won, but I was on so many losing teams. Still a lot of fun.
With team ketchup, I got to Champion.
So, Nintendo had a month long demo to attract new buyers. If splatfest charmed anyone to buy, Nintendo just did a bait & switch, because the game they bought will never get another splatfest..... Unless..... Nintendo plans on announcing something this June june (when E3 Ann ouncements were planned). I'm not holding my breath though.
Still no replacement to earn extra sea snails without splatfest. That still seems odd.
Also, I didn't get a Wii U, so I still wonder if Splatoon 1 will come to the Switch, but that seems highly unlikely.
@playstation_king people could vote but not play.
The voting part is the easiest part.
___________
I ended up as Ketchup King with 187k clout.
It was good to see some life in this game, it was so dead in the start of the year. Hopefully we get more splatfests but I got what I wanted from the game already.
Missed the other splatfests as I got the game last year when it all ended. There was a bit of activity in the game in 2019 but it was so dead by January this year until they announced this.
Was fun.
Yes! Totally worth investing some time to become a Ketchup King!
Now as @BenAV said, more SplatFests please!
@Razer It never seemed dead to me. I’ve always been able to jump in and join some matches with no problems. Been having fun with it even since long after the last Splatfest.
@CosmoXY did you play it around Jan, Feb and March of this year?
I got the game in September last year, for the first few months, until November-December, the games were quick. I could find them easy.
I stopped playing for a bit, fired it up in mid January and it was like a ghost town.
Games took 5 mins at least to get going, most games would have one person drop when it started and it wasn't just one experience, this persisted for weeks. By March I had given up.
Then they announced this and that very weekend I noticed a seismic differences in the activity.
Mayo is filthy. Congrats to ketchup. I had tons of fun playing this Splatfest and I hope they’ll occasionally do them in the future. It can’t be all that difficult or costly for Nintendo, can it?
I hate mayo, so I’m happy! I only got this game earlier this month, so this was my first Splatfest. I hope there’s more!
I'm kinda surprised at the result. As hard as I battled for Team Ketchup, there was a lot of great Team Mayo players making the battles very difficult for me. Anyway, I'm so happy to be on the winning team.
Go Team Ketchup! Those were some good battles, pretty fun weekend. I was a bit rusty though and only touched the low 2,000's in Splat Power before getting knocked back down.
I think they should redo some more Splatfests again since over 10 million carts/downloads are out there. At least keep doing it until the next big Splatoon thing gets announced (Save Our Salmons).
@WoomyNNYes You can get a snail from Judd in Inkopolis Square every time your level goes up. I think it starts at level 30.
@SSJW So... Are you saying Ketchup and Mayo wouldn't cut the mustard?
@masterLEON Yeah, but earning super sea snails with and without splatfests is like comparing walking to driving a car. You can get 13-24 snails from one splatfest, that's such an advantage.
When you started your Splatoon 2 game, did you benefit from splatfests?
I feel bad for new players. If you're new to the game, and there are no splatfests, that's a tedious slog to customize gear.
If I recall you earn sea snails from levels 1-8? and then from level 30+. (no snails for levels 9-29).
Team Ketchup here. Glad to have participated in another Splatfest. Acknowledgements to Team Mayo, they were amazing opponents. Congratulations to all players.
Hope they repeat more Splatfests.
Yay the marina pleebs are here and spouting that the splatfest where pearl previously won where all rigged
This Splatfast rematch (and the free demo period) have breathed new life into this game. Although the community has always been generally pretty active, I love that they did this and hope they do more Splatfests. What do they really have to lose?
@WoomyNNYes Of course snails helped me out in the beginning. But I started day 1, so I hit the ceiling early, so to speak. I've only needed snails to open slots, I don't use them to reroll. I'd rather pay the 20k to scrub and just apply ability chunks. All the gear was still coming out, and I determined what abilities I wanted to go with early on and ignored the gear which had abilities I was never going to use. So I ended up not needing many snails at all. I currently have gear that is still stuck with one or two slots and I'm sitting on 416 unused snails and 1 million in cash as of this weekend's Splatfest.
But, I'm not like many others. My mains are sloshers, in particular Sloshing Machines (ranked) and Bloblobbers (for Splatfests, but I've actually dropped it for the Sloshing Machine again), that's it. I have particular sets that focus on Ink Saver (main), Object Shredder, Ink Resistance, Special Charge Up, and Bomb Defense Up DX (for Tower Control), that's pretty much it. I also don't even build up pures in the usual sense. If I need 3 to 5 subs of one ability, it's cheaper to spread the chunks across all 3 pieces of gear than to concentrate them on one piece since the first sub of one type on any gear piece costs 10 chunks and the second costs 20.
For new players, yeah it may be a little overwhelming and they'll definitely be losing out on an important resource. However to compensate, I hope they can figure out how to wisely use all the game modes to their advantage. Including Ranked (for bigger money and exp. gains) and Salmon Run (for ability chunks, cash, gear, Crusty Sean tickets, and even just to try out other weapon types for free), as well as their Crusty Sean tickets (for cash and exp. multipliers and drink tickets for increased ability chances).
Aww, I would like so much to have participed!
I'm bummed that Mayo lost, but overall I thought it was so much fun. This was my first Splatfest for Splatoon 2 (played most of the Splatfests for the first Splatoon). I hope that Splatfests become a regular thing again. It seems like there are a lot of new players now since a lot of people got a Switch since quarantine started.
