So PS5 sales will halt. I can't believe they didn't decide to at least try and soften the load by offering a free digital game alongside this. That way the value proposition is similar for the consumer but the cost to Sony is less.
Its moves like this that confirms I will not be getting a PS6 despite having them all since the 1st one. It'll be interesting to see how the price of the upcoming Steam Box compares to this.
@NolandC This is literally a Metacritic publisher list. A list completely driven by critics scores. I'm just highlighting why those games count in this instance.
Every console maker over the last 20 years or so has starting developing their next console, shortly after releasing their previous. Thats how hardware development works.
@NolandC Yes the Zelda ports count. They were new SKUs published by Nintendo last year.
I agree that MK World is good at best but it sits at an 86 on Metacritic. Prime 4 is at 78 which is not fantastic but is still considered a good game by reviewers standards.
Console sales are low as this is what happens with a new console. It takes a while for system sellers to build up and for people to dive in. The world economy is also a very turbulent place right now so people are prioritising other things.
I was wondering how Nintendo didnt crack the top 10, with MKW, DK and the Zeldas. But of course I had completely forgotten about Drag x Drive and Welcome Tour. Silly me.
This was what I was afraid of and cancelled my preorder. The game itself was fantastic on the Switch but £20 more for mostly multiplayer content is quite a massive price to pay.
Instead I am looking forward to your review of Kena, as that also comes out tomorrow and is not a game I have played yet.
@Kazman2007 I think you seriously underestimate the buying habits of Pokemon fans and cosy games fans. Pokopia absolutely will have drawn new people to the system and could have done more if the game didnt keep selling out.
I think you also overestimate the appeal of Metroid. Its always been a fringe Nintendo IP and no amount of extra marketing would have changed the sale numbers. It has its fans and thats that.
I feel like the Switch 2 is selling okay and I am glad Nintendo are giving 3rd parties time to shine and giving their internal teams time to push the system. Pokemon coming in 2027 is a shock but its gives TPC time to really Polish the games. If they turn out as messy as Sc/Vi though, then they can officially get in the bin.
I saw elsewhere that NIS were getting actively mocked for previous GKC releases and they were just not selling.
So this could be a decision made as a result of that.
The game itself reminds me a lot of the Pokemon Gamecube games in its graphical style. I'll wait for reviews but I did add it to my wishlist when I saw it pip up on the eShop this morning.
@SillyG The Switch 2 GKC has no reason to exist. Unless you really, really must have the Switch 2 box and red cart, the Switch 1 version is the one to get considering the Switch 2 upgrade is free AND its cheaper to boot.
I cant comment on the price of DLC as I have avoided news about this game so far knowing it would come to S2 eventually.
@Flangela Act 3??? Hahahahahaha, I can't even make it out of Act 1. I can't remember whether I have made it past the Moorwing or not, but that guy gave me so much trouble. So much so, I didn't see the point in carrying on, knowing it gets harder.
A shame really because I like everything else about the game. Maybe its just not for me and thats fine.
DQ11S looks worlds better now. Annoying as I literally beat the final boss last night and the smeary handheld resolution was definitely a turn off. This would have improved my engagement with the game no end.
Another Crabs Treasure also seems playable now. Its smeary visuals and frame rate drops made me put it down years ago. I may start again and give it another go because the game seems quite charming.
@UltimateOtaku91 This is for ALL Switch games. Its either on or off for all games.
It will break some games, that dont have a TV mode for example, so I do hope they somehow make this so you can quickly flick it on/off from the Home Button menu.
@Misima The ONLY thing I can think of is that the more lines of code they add, the more likely we are to run into a Switch game that has compatability issues. So to avoid them having to do more tedious compatability reviews, they just did the most simple and cleanest thing.
But that might be giving them the benefit of the doubt.
@TheExile285 I did just finish DQ11S last night and I do agree that it looks rough in handheld. I feel like they have released this right now just to spite me (but I am happy it is now out).
Another Crabs Treasure is another game that is very rough in handheld that I am interested in trying with this new mode.
There's no way you invest that much money into something and then just sit back and dont try and influence the company. There is no such thing as "just investment" at this scale.
This puts this company 5th on the major shareholders list for Capcom FYI.
The game style works better as a downloaded game anyway. Its definitely a game you can hop in for 15 mins to do some work and then hop out again.
Saying that I am glad I got myself a copy. I havent played too much of it so far but its been pretty fun. Its should provide a lighter contrast to when I start on RE7
I like this arts tyler a lot more than what we've got with Wind and Waves to be honest.
No idea why they have made the protag look exactly like Link otherwise I wouldnt have made any real connection with it ripping off pokemon. I saw Roadhog (Overwatch) but that was about it.
@andykara2003 HeartGold and Soul Silver are definitely the best Pokemon games you can play on the DS and a great starting point for sure.
I honestly wouldnt bother with anything on the Switch except maybe Legends Arceus. They all feel pretty lackluster unless you have a real nostalgia for the series. Arceus mixed things up somewhat and feels like the most modern Pokemon game to date.
Nintendo have been so weird with how they have decided to show off this game. Barely showing off anything in directs and trailers but then giving us a tree house, that very few people care to watch.
Kirby Air Riders got 2 dedicated directs and this barely got a trailer in 1 full direct.
Anyway my copy is ordered and I should be playing it come Thursday. Excited.
I hope they can continue to improve the character models in the year or so of development they have left. They really stand out against the gorgeous environments.
Bulbasaur is just a toad with a plant on its back.
Charmander is just a salamander whose tail is on fire
Squirtle is just a turtle with a funny tail
Im not saying the originals aren't great, but they too are just real animals with a slight type twist. I'd argue the Gen 2 starters are much less like real animals and more individual.
Gen 1 - Bulbasaur Gen 2 - Chikorita Gen 3 - Treecko Gen 4 - Piplup (Penguins are my fave) Gen 5 - Snivy Gen 6 - Chespin Gen 7 - Rowlet Gen 8 - Grookey Gen 9 - Fuecoco Gen 10 - Browt
The environments actually look gorgeous and it looks like a world I want to explore. However the character models, both human and Pokemon, just look too basic. Not enough detail and they really seem to clash with the detail of the environment.
@MamaSymphonia Same with me. I enjoy poker and I enjoy roguelites, but this game just didn't keep my interest.
I know its the point of rogue games but I really switched off when I was hit with a "win this round with one hand" scenario that was impossible with what I had. Completely screwed over through no fault of my own. No thanks.
I may give this version a go though, just to see if I was in the wrong frame of mind at the time.

Re: Pokémon VGC Competitions Officially Transition To Pokémon Champions
@hol_up Champions was never designed nor marketed as a standalone game. Its intent was always clear.
This is a portal for serious Pokemon heads to practice competitive battles year round.
Re: PS5 Gets An Insane Price Increase – Will Nintendo Follow Suit?
@progx Oh I know it will be expensive, but at least the games are pretty cheap. On the PS5, both the hardware and software are pretty expensive.

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Have Kept The Mario Galaxy Movie Fox Reveal Under Wraps?
Yes. At least wait a week or so before doing it.
Like I said on the original article, this is very unlikely to draw in any new people to go and see the film who weren't already.
Re: Review: Kena: Bridge Of Spirits (Switch 2) - Old-School Platformer Offers Sumptuous Visuals & Heaps Of Charm
I was waiting for this review before I took the plunge. Glad it runs well.
Re: Fox McCloud Blasts Into The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
I do think this should be spoiler tagged, despite nintendo themselves being so open about it.
No idea why Nintendo have decided to announce this now though. Not like a cameo from this guy will attract anyone new to the film.

Re: Feature: Nintendo May Win Its Case Against The US Government, But Tariffs Are Here To Stay
@Serpenterror Oh damn. I didnt realise I couldn't replay my Switch 2 games after I've finished them. Thanks for letting me know about this fact /s
Re: Pokémon Champions Nails Down Switch Release Date, And It's Only Two Weeks Away
@KayFiOS I mean its the new standard for competitive Pokemon going forward. It will absolutely be kept up to date.
Re: Nintendo's Apparently Cutting US Switch 2 Output After Lower Than Expected Holiday Sales
@ShadLink I like your optimism.
I do hope Winds and Waves is a fantastic game, but I've been burnt too many times since Black and White to think they will.

Re: PlayStation Indie Hit 'Kena: Bridge Of Spirits' Is Headed To Switch 2 Next Week
I definitely want to get this game, but for that price I kinda want a physical edition, even if it would be a GKC.
Any news about a physical edition?
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Publisher Responds To AI Outfit Allegations
@Sylamp To be fair thats how I expected it to work based on the release and how Aspyr worded it.
But yes being based here in the UK, the Switch 1 edition is still not free, despite owning the Switch 1 version digitally. What a fiasco.
Re: Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Joins A Trio Of THQ Nordic Titles Getting The Switch 2 Treatment
@HugoGED Cool story bro
Re: Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Joins A Trio Of THQ Nordic Titles Getting The Switch 2 Treatment
I doubt it, but it would be good to see an upgrade path from the Switch 1 versions of these games, even if its a small fee.

Have they added an easier mode so scrubs like me can enjoy the game?

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia's Physical Troubles Continue As It Slips From The Podium
@8bit-Man The real question is, why should the casual fan care that, in your words, it is a "download in a box"?
Does it allow them to play the game on their Switch 2? Can they then sell that game if they do not like it or no longer want it?
Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia's Physical Troubles Continue As It Slips From The Podium

Re: Random: Mario Wonder's New Switch 2 Trailer Is Hiding A Crossover Cameo
Oh wow. I missed them for sure.
Please Nintendo, give us Switch 2 versions of Pikmin 1 to 4 with mouse support. Its the franchise that would improve the most with it.
Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Switch 2 Edition Gets A New Overview Trailer
I was holding out hope for some more single player content, but this pretty much confirms it does not exist. Sigh

Re: Several Mario Games Are Now On Sale On The Switch eShop For MAR10 Day (UK)
@RainbowGazelle I would say we do both. We did used to do the dates the same way as America, before about the Victorian times.
Written down its definitely DDMMYY but in speech its fine to do either.
Re: Several Mario Games Are Now On Sale On The Switch eShop For MAR10 Day (UK)
@RadioHedgeFund Whilst you are correct about the DDMMYY standard, we do still say "March 10th".
Re: PlayStation Indie Hit 'Kena: Bridge Of Spirits' Is Headed To Switch 2 Soon
I also wanted to play this, but never got round to it. I'll be getting it on the Switch 2 for sure where I do 90% of my gaming anyway.
Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Switch 1 & 2 Indie World Game In A New Infographic
@thenikdavies iam8bit are doing a full on cart physical for Blue Prince. I don't think it has a release window yet other than "later this year".
Re: Talking Point: After 30 Years, Is It Time To Reset The Pokédex?
@ShadLink But why?
It was essentially Gen 1 with different monsters to catch.
Re: Talking Point: After 30 Years, Is It Time To Reset The Pokédex?
I liked Black and Whites approach and have always had a soft spot for those games (roll on the remakes). So my vote goes there.

All lining up for an actual direct on Mario Day!
Right?
Please 😭
Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon Winds & Waves On Switch 2
I hope they can continue to improve the character models in the year or so of development they have left. They really stand out against the gorgeous environments.
I am cautiously optimistic for these games.

Re: Poll: So, Which Starter Will You Choose In Pokémon Winds & Waves?
Gen 1 - Bulbasaur
Gen 2 - Chikorita
Gen 3 - Treecko
Gen 4 - Piplup (Penguins are my fave)
Gen 5 - Snivy
Gen 6 - Chespin
Gen 7 - Rowlet
Gen 8 - Grookey
Gen 9 - Fuecoco
Gen 10 - Browt
I just love me the Grass starters
Re: Pokémon Winds & Waves Announced For Switch 2, Launching Next Year
@Metazoxan Digimon Time Stranger has more detailed models, I dont think I am asking for too much.
I am fairly certain all Pokemon will not be obtainable in this game. Maybe 700 odd at most.
Re: Pokémon Winds & Waves Announced For Switch 2, Launching Next Year
This was a trailer of two halves for me.
The environments actually look gorgeous and it looks like a world I want to explore. However the character models, both human and Pokemon, just look too basic. Not enough detail and they really seem to clash with the detail of the environment.
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?
I got the blue 3DS at launch (ouch) but also upgraded it to the N3DS when that was announced.
The N3DS was perfect as I felt the XLs were always too big and the games looked way worse.
Re: Balatro's Back To Steal All Your Spare Time In New Switch 2 Version
@graviton @Gofixmeaplate They've done the same thing that Bethesda did with Skyrim and released an entirely seperate Switch 2 version of the game.
There is no upgrading from the S1 version you just get the S2 version for free
Re: Balatro's Back To Steal All Your Spare Time In New Switch 2 Version
