Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

They can try to shill it all they want. Key carda are the worst of both worlds. I said it numerous times, key cards should be a cheaper alternative to physical releases but not the only option.
That being said I somehow started supporting the idea of key cards cause I will save a lot of money by not buying them.

@electrolite77 even nintendo will bow down to pressure cause they get 30% off of third party titles. If those sell well nintendo makes even more money.

anyhow, it will be interesting to see how things develope. and as I said already, I will be buying key cards or digital downloads regardless if there is no other option, but on my (price) terms, and if they don't set the prices to my liking, no biggie. 30 eur is still way too much, haha. I was thinking more in terms of 5eur-20eur.
come to think of it, I never bought second hand physical copies on switch, that's me, lol, I want to get my stuff brandnew and sealed. But when it comes to key cards, as I already view the product inferior I might as well buy it used. dont even need the box.

@electrolite77 it's up to nintendo to make the cards cheaper then.

don't get me wrong, while I don't like key cards at all, I am not gonna miss out on a game that I wanna play. I will just wait a year or several years until I get the key card or download for dirt cheap. Simply because I don't see the value of going full or even half price on this. So it's up to the industry if they want my full price money or not. And given my backlog (spanning several nintendo generations), I couldn't care less when I get to play a game or frankly even at all, haha

Who knows, maybe some publishers will go cardridge and sell a ton of them, and then companies like sqex will think, hey, maybe we could sell more if we also went that way? just giving ideas

@EriXz tbh I don't understand why comments like these still keep popping up.

Let me explain: codes in a box were one of to the most undesirable and pointless options for me. If I want digital I can use the e-shop or something, no need to create plastic waste (the box!).
The problem was mostly it's either/or. You don't get the option to choose between a code in a box OR. a physical copy.

Whoever complained about codes in boxes did so because they wanted a physical copy. Otherwise there is no point in complaining as a CIB is nothing else than an eshop purchase without the box.

I hope this clarifies!

Key cards are a not a code in a box - its something like a resellable download token. Its a digital copy that you can resell. ITS NOT a physical copy.
Comparing key cards to codes in boxes might be a valid POV. But people who are complaining ARE comparing with physical copies. NEVER with codes and/or downloads.

If there were only digital options out there, key cards would be a step up in that you can resell them but also a step down as you need to switch key token every time you wanna play a game.

Compared to physical copies you need to provide storage, tons of storage as almost every 3rd party game will be a key card. Ofc you can just delete games and redownload lateron.

So, bottomline is, people dont consider codes in boxes when looking at key cards but the missing physical option which key cards are replacing.

Got it?

it's so funny imo. From the moment game key cards have been announced, the VAST majority of comments ALL ACROSS the board, even including a fansite like nintendolife, have been overwhelmingly negative. With a ton of people, me included, saying they will either skip completely skip key cards or wait until they appear in the bargain basment for cheap.

What has been projected has happened!

But I think we will need a bit more time for everyone to realize, it's actually the key cards which are at fault.

Good news is, publishers want money, once the dime has dropped on them they will return to cardridges, sales will improve and everyone be happy

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

Jedrus_Lilac

I am not sold on the idea of backwards compatibility hurting sales. I mean people who own a switch 1 with tons of games would still own and be able to play those games even if the s2 wasn't BC.

the extra storage costs related to key cards are just way too enormous imo given how storage heavy some games can be.

I went mostly physical but bought some digital games and own a 128gb card (ik, thats kinda small...) and ended up having to delete some of them in order to download more, lol. The idea of having to buy more storage didn't suit me. The switch 2 is even worse in this regard as you absol;utely NEED to invest in storage to play almost any third party game.

The fact most of these games are ports of older games which can be purchased much cheaper elsewhere doesn't help.

Re: Publishers Are "Thanking" Nintendo For Game-Key Cards On Switch 2

Jedrus_Lilac

imo they will miss out on sales. Personally I don't view digital downloads (or key cards for that matter) to be the same value. Compared to what could have been a day one full price purchase I am gonna wait until a serious price drop. And will also limit my purchases, during the switch 1 era I bought a couple of games I was on the fence, such as diofield chronicles, if it was a key or download i would have given it a pass. But that's just me ofc.
