Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

@electrolite77 tbh that preservation argument seems a bit far fetched imo. At least I dont care as much about it as others seem to.

However, I wouldnt underestimate the impact of collectors. Not sure how many are out there but its collectors contribute a lot imo. Safe to say the average gamer/family probably wont be buying as many games as collectors. Then there is gamers who will sell off their games after beating them. Even as a small time collector (around 130 switch games atm) I can say I had been buying more games than I had time to play with an ever increasing backlog thats reaching back to the wii/ds era. I also purchased games for collections sake, like princess peach, or the game garage, if those werent made by nintendo I probably wouldnt have cared.

While I definitely would have liked to continue I also have other hobbies and that backlog I mentioned, haha. So in a way I don't mind key cards being around.

@electrolite77 exactly what I said.

But we all know nintendo isnt a third party platform, and yet the switch 1 has seen tons of releases. Third party games are said to sell very poorly atm, if this keeps up it will hurt nintendo in the long run.

The sentiment towards GCK is very negative. Also prices, but prices didnt deter me from buying the s2. With key cards I can wait until they get dirt cheap.
So for me personally I win either way, if they start releasing on cards again, I get what I want. If they dont I save a lot of money.

@kmtrain83 they will course correct in some form.
Negativity towards key cards can have huge implications.
I mean while I absolutely hate key cards I wouldnt wanna miss out on a must have title. But same as with digital games I would rather wait a year or two for a huge discount. Whereas in card form it could have been a day one purchase. And day one or month one purchases are the determining factor for a games success.
And there is alot of negative sentiment out there. Who knows it might even lead to people pirating more games.

@AllBLK not so sure tbh. It all depends on sales and third party games havent been doing so well. Might be many reasons but key cards is certainly one of them and the most voiced reason. Both key card surveys didnt come out of nowhere.
Key cards are here bc nintendo is greedy and charges third partys alot, think its 30%. Key cards enable them to make a bit more money.
So if people dont buy third party games: a) nintendo makes less money than they could have made. b) third parties might port less games or no games at all.
Both options arent great for nintendo!

I have come not only to accept but to like the key card situation.

Will only buy absolute must have games in key card form, and thus save a lot of money. Otherwise I would feel tempted here and there to buy a slightly mediocre or less appealing game, like wild hearts or maybe that elliot game, games I might never get down to actually playing. The threshold to actually buy a key card game has become VERY HIGH for me.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

Jedrus_Lilac

the key card direct could have been worse

It started off pretty nicely with Monster Hunter Stories 3 - key card or not, its gonna be a purchase at around 50% off

Ivalice Chronicles wasn't news, lol, will buy the switch 1 version.

Persona 3, a must have for me, probably around 50% off

Other than that, everything is an easy skip, except maybe the Kiwami games, but I can wait a couple of years and get the bundle when its heavily discounted.

I am not too much into warriors games, but always added them to my collection regardless, lol. Please be a key card, otherwise I will feel obliged to buy it, haha

Re: Feature: Nintendo Partner Direct Predictions - What Do You Expect To See?

Jedrus_Lilac

aside from new key card releases, haha I expect some atlus news, probably persona 3 reload and/or metaphor. I will buy both games regardless if they are on key card or not, just not day one. Same goes for Eldenring and Final Fantasy.

Other than that no must have title comes to mind.

Looking forward to this direct, just to see how many games I will skip entirely but would have bought otherwise.

Ahh, maybe some demon x machina news, now thats a game I am actually not tooo interested in but will buy just to show my support of game cardridges, since its not a must have title for me I will wait for the inevitable discount as well.
