@epicgamner you nailed it. It's not even censorship, it's about adapting small bits of the game to fit the current audience they are going for (which guess what, is not the 20y+ that bought the game 10 years ago). Movies, videogames, art in general represent the current morals of society, jokes about someone's body doesn't do well nowadays.
I can't get my head around people actually protesting online about it lol it must be tiring to see censorship on every step you take. Good luck to whoever does.
@LastFootnote I feel you. I gave up plataformers for a while after Yooka Laylee due to some extremely badly designed stages. Dk Tropical Freeze made it too hard for the competiton, honestly
I only played 3 boards this weekend, but I really don't see it being any more repetitive than the last 2. I actually think it's BY FAR the best Mario Party on switch. The animations and faster, lots of different minigame modes you come through on the board, the Jamboree duo and their minigames are an absolute highlight!
I really don't see why. I find the original game pretty terrible. Reductive after the scope of the first one, unbalanced, graphics are soulless. Huge Zelda fan here, and there is not enough nostalgia in the world that would excite me for a new 2D Zelda lol
I love the visuais so much, can't get enough of it! Nintendo has such a talent for making games with such artstyle that, regardless of the hardware capability, has the potential to become timeless. This is a perfect example of that.
@NinChocolate I completely agree most people don't watch directs, however when we're talking about a new hardware (that follows of the most successful videogames of all time), it reaches outside the bubble of gamer's forums, it will become news in most websites (New York Times, The Economist, and so on).
In this specific case, it will certainly hurt the sales.
@jojobar agree with you in that, and I'd dare to say that the current political climate in the world has an impact in such toxicity, since being hateful on the internet has become the trend, even before games or movies are released, and the product is actually consumed. There is an overflown of extreme opinions, and a lack of reasonable debates.
It is even more noticeable in the gamer community, many hard users are people that aren't too fond of social interactions, and find the opportunity to feel seen expressing (often times conservative) opinions, that even politically would be seen as a stretch.
@Ryu_Niiyama 30 years is a long time for things not to change. Of course social norms are a product of their time, but sexism, racism, and the differences between sex and gender were not as mainstream knowledge back then, but they are now. I'm just glad the creators of the game are more updated regarding current society than the online gamer community. The goal after all is not to be offensive (and I really don't see why it is), it is to be inclusive.
@Ryu_Niiyama well, what we see im the character selection is a mix of the gender expression and physical characteristics, not biological sex. They are two completely different things
Well, it's charming and fun, I'd say 8 at the most. Especially after BotW and TotK, it def doesn't feel like a mainline game by any means, and that's ok.
@RupeeClock couldn't agree more, naming it Switch 2 is absolutely necessary in order not to fail like de Wii U. It's been a rule in the industry for such a long time, now that they found a brand in the Switch that can be extended for a few generations, I hope they don't mess it up. The specs and design look amazing! I really hope it is all true 😍
Yup, we have been too spoiled by the modern Zelda games. I still love A Link to the Past (never played the follow up) and Wind Waker, but can't find the first 3D Zeldas that fun anymore, besides being a big part of my childhood. And Link's Awakening became by far my least favorite Zelda. I know I'm like those 3 annoying people that bad mouth BotW and TotK when I say that, but it just doesn't click with me anymore lol Old Mario, Metroid and some RPGs (Chrono Trigger, Paper Mario, Fire Emblem) still feel pretty untouchable though
@daftmagician hahaha right? It's so out of context, I feel like it is more weird than fun. Not that I actually need to be hyped, last MK I played was MK4 lol
@Anti-Matter Mario 64 never appealled to me very much, too. Overall, I find the N64 one of the worst Nintendo generations, a few masterpieces, but Plasystation had SO much more going on. And that's coming from a guy who has a Nintendo Tatoo lol Plus, the games didn't age very well, the Snes pixels and the Gamecube games got a more ageless art style.
I only got the chance to watch the direct today, and wow, I've never seen a console with such a good cadence of new releases throughout its whole existence like this (and I game since the SNES). So many heavy hitters, even late in the console life cycle. 10/10 not only to this direct, but to the whole Switch generation. Nintendo nailed it like never before. Excited for DK, Mario and Luigi, Zelda, and so many others!
Given the restriction, they did an amazing job in TOK, the writing was SO sharp. The new designs and a return to the RPG system would make that game on par with TTYD, given that even with these flaws that turned me off at first, I finished the game thinking it was the second best Paper Mario. Hope they fix it next time!
It's funny to see how people tend to be vocal in the comments when there is an aspect in the game we don't like. While the pool had 40% of the votes scoring 10, there is only a couple of comments out of 20 that agree with that
I agree with everyone that says it is a little too simplistic to assume what the article tries to do. I did enjoy both, but I do give Three Houses the upper hand due to how fun it was to build the characters through classes and the social aspect was entertaining and funny. It's rare for me to enjoy these parts usually, and Three Houses made it doable. The story was pretty great too, there was this tension going on from the beginning, and the big plot twist made me excited to finish the game. Engage was cute and fun, the strategy was great, but after Three Houses, it felt a little underwhelming in scale. Plus, the designs and kinda childish story with no blurry lines really was a little off-putting. Still great though, but it seemed way less ambitious, nobody knew it it was a main entry or not until launch date lol I hope that was the developer's plan all along. If the next entry goes back to having a great story and marketing like Three Houses, and keeps the strategy from Engage, we'll have a winner for sure!
@Chopper25 but honestly, he's completely right on that one, the last two games were some of the best reviewed and the best sold of the series by a LARGE margin.
The series reinvents it self all the time, from the sidescrolling of Zelda 2, going 3D and the Ocarina in OoT, the artstyle and free roam in Wind Waker, the masks and time dynamic in Majora's Mask, the open world and soundtrack in BotW, the building and ultrahand in TotK. It got stale for me during the TP and SS, but it certainly got back from it. Being a Zelda game for me has more to do with the world and characters than linearity, itens and dungeon, and the last 2 were quintessential Zeldas in that aspect. I feel you, I've suffered when other series changed for what I thought was the worse (Paper Mario, Warcraft after Warcraft 3), but Nintendo has a way of nailing the balance between mainting the soul of an IP and adapting to more modern times. It's gonna be hard to go back now
@Anachronism you brought very good points and you are certainly more knowledgeable of all the little changes that came over time. I'm more of a casual player, and my perspective is simpler: a lot of things made the games more fun and not grindy like it was before. It comes with age I guess, I used to love grinding like crazy on RPGs when I was a kid, and they eliminated this bottleneck on the progression on SwSh, plus the open area was fun, and the game isn't too long, all improvements. SV had bugs that were more funny than annoying in my experience, of course it could be polished, but when you compare to BDSP, what an improvement. I tried to finish the remakes and I just couldn't, and that's cause I absolute loved the artstyle. It's hard to get back to those after experiencing the newest entries. But I mean, it's been upward since Sun/Moon for sure!
Hoping it turns out to be good even though the artsyle is not appealing at all. With the amount of SRPGs in last few years, I'll get it only if it's spectacular in all other areas.
@Anachronism Couldn't agree more, I really don't get people complaining about graphics (which was never Nintendo thing) in games that are actually very fun, when Sun/Moon were extremely boring. This generation has been SUCH an improvement for the mainline entries, it completely restored my faith in the series future.
On the other hand, Xenoblade is an amazing game, but I somehow feel the need to complete most of the sidequests (except the extremely hard ones) and by the end I'm so burned out. Too many fetch quests. The main story is amazing though. Disgaea is a series I'll never try again. It never ever ends.
The battle system was really boring, but the writing in Origami King was so inspired, that I didnt find it overstayed its welcome at all, enjoyed it through the end. TTYD still my favorite since I'm a sucker for RPGs. The Metroid series (2D and Prime) are perfect lenght, as well as Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, and the Fire Emblem series for RPGs. The most recent Zeldas are the only games that can be extremely long that I never wanted them to end. Absolute masterpieces, I was never not bored for a second in a game I played for so many hours before BotW and TotK. Happy they were both the most successful Zeldas to date, looking forward to the next entry and the next map.
It's so tiring to hear people complain about fps on a freaking RPG. The same way they had to make a decision on 30/60 fps, they can balance the amount of time the player will have for the action commands. I simply cannot understand how can someone prefer 60 fps over nicer graphics on this game, it sounds like people wanna a reason to be negative and complain about. The game is easy overall, the guard command was always kind of a lucky thing, no one will need mario maker ultra hard levels kind of reaction time to beat it to 100%. My 8/9 year old cousing did in 2002, you'll make it, I'm sure.
@Bratwurst35 I love the game to death, did everything available including all the grinding in the Chao Garden when I was a kid, but the plot is indeed terrible, it takes away from the game all in all
@nintendozach Man, if it's a hyperbole you are being too literal, according to Cambridge Dictionary:

@WiltonRoots you must have not played the original, but there is no such thing as "ultra high speed reflex" on this game's combat 😂 the action command window is very comfortable, combat is easy and relys more on strategy than reflex. I keep getting amazed by how incredible the game looks!
@Fizza I couldn't agree more, the setting and everything looks good, but the movement seems somehow stiff for a metroidvania. Let's see how this turns out
It looks beautiful but I didn't quite get what do you do besides gliding around beautiful scenarios. Like, if they showed things you had to collect or landscapes changing due to something you did, I'd be sold
The more monochromatic visuals didn't catch my eyes at first, but once the trailer went on, I was sold and even appreciate them a lot now. Very creative and looks fun, I hope it succeeds!
I loved this indie direct! I'm very into RPGs and was expecting some of that, but honestly after watching everything I reaaaally don't mind they were missing. Most games look very chill and I've been leaning towards that recently. The art in most of them is beautiful, and even Schim, which didn't impress me at first, is so creative that I'm eager to play it. 10/10
Hopefully we'll get 5th installment but please tone down the difficulty to Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze level, that game was just the PERFECT balanced for a collectathon platformer
