I'm hyped enough for this game that I'm going to a midnight launch for the first time in nearly 10 years. In recent years, most of the 'midnights' have been around 9 pm at the Gamestop I go to which is convenient. This one is an actual midnight and usually I don't feel like leaving the house around that time but this game seems too good to not play as soon as possible.
Pretty cool. Wii Sports is still one of my favorite games to play and I was happy to see Nintendo continue this line of titles on Switch, though it could use some more events to choose from.
The 3-point shooting was my favorite activity in the Wii Sports series so I'd like to see that return here. Really disappointed in the low amount of sports from the start until now. No reason basketball and baseball shouldn't have been in on day one.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a regular part of the rotation since I got the Switch, so definitely more of that. And still on my second playthrough of Metroid Prime Remastered.
@Buckychop_Fandom And with good reason. Although personally I've always found film 'critics' to be arrogant, obnoxious, a-holes even back when I was growing up in the 90s. These snobs expect every movie to be commentary on something and don't seem to realize some of us just enjoy kicking back and watching some entertaining action on the screen.
The Switch Pro Controller is my favorite. It borrows from a competitor (in this case, obviously Xbox) more than any controller Nintendo has ever made but the team behind making it hit a home run. It was my favorite controller of all-time until the PS5's Dualsense came along, the HD rumble being a very cool feature. Next on my list of favorite Nintendo controllers is the Wii remote (and combined with the nunchuk made for some really cool experiences like MadWorld and No More Heroes 1 and 2) at second followed closely by the Super Nintendo pad, NES and joy cons to round out the top 5.
@Wheatly I agree. I hated TLoU 2's story but it's easy to see why people not as heavily invested would like it. And even I'd still recommend it to people for the great world building (many buildings seem to have some sort of story to tell) and fantastic gunplay and melee combat. It's the opposite of TLoU 1 which, imo, had a great story but passable gameplay at best.
Big fan of the game but it only took me 20 minutes of trying the motion controls to realize it wasn't for me. Returned to traditional button controls and never looked back.
I'm going to see the Mario movie today and my hype for that also has me revisiting Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Also continuing my second playthrough of the brilliant Metroid Prime Remastered.
On the PlayStation side I'm working through Resident Evil 4 remake (PS5). Only up to Chapter 8 as I haven't had a ton of free time in recent weeks but from what I've played, I love what Capcom did with it. Also been having fun going through Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror.
Love to see it. This is one of the most well made compilations ever. Some of the best games of all-time and there some cool series history lessons as well in the Turtles Lair. Happy to see it reach a good size audience and hope it makes Konami reconsider more collections. I'd love to see the Wiiware 'Rebirth' games, particularly Contra.
@Serpenterror I agree that RE 4 didn't need a remake and would've preferred Code Veronica. However, in addition to the better visuals, I also appreciate the improved controls and that Ashley isn't as annoying as she was in the original version. All that said, RE 4: Wii Edition is still the one I recommend the most, even to newcomers if they have access to an original Wii or Wii U.
Really been enjoying the RE 4 remake. Only criticism I'd have is the (likely) business decision to take Separate Ways out to sell to us later as DLC but other than that a very good re-imagining of a classic. Hope it finds its way to the Switch's successor in more than just cloud form.
I'd love to see Eternal Darkness get the Metroid Prime Remastered treatment. One of the very best GC games. If I were putting together a list of my favorites from that console I'd actually have it above Resident Evil 4.
Third favorite Metroid game after Dread and Super, just ahead of Prime 1 which I'd put at no. 4. Still have my GBA copy but also great to have the option to play on Switch now as well.
Interested to see where Metroid Prime Remastered ends up. It's been selling very well on the Switch E-shop here in the U.S., hopefully physical sales were strong too. Retro did a great job with this release and it deserves any success it gets.
As much as I love Prime and was thrilled to get it back in 2002, I love this game even more. Metroid is best in 2D, imo, and this is a phenomenal entry.
It's not like she's a damsel in distress in every game, she's had other roles before. Got no problem with her doing more in this movie just as long as Mario is respected also. What I've seen so far makes it seem like a fun movie.
Missed it the first time because I had finally upgraded to an HD tv and there were simply more games on PS3 and Xbox 360 that I was interested in but, like with a lot of re-releases on Switch, I decided to take advantage of the second opportunity to get on board and glad I did. Like Kirby and the Forgotten Land there isn't much challenge but it's fun as heck to play. I'd be further into it if it wasn't for Metroid Prime Remastered taking up most of my attention right now.
Was waiting for the physical copy of Metroid Prime Remastered to arrive, now that I have it I'm going through that. Will also be playing a lot of Like a Dragon: Ishin and finishing up Wanted: Dead.
@GrailUK
In addition to the Switch the other modern consoles I have are PS5, Series X and PS4, all are hooked up and I still bought and played more games on Switch than the others. It was far from a 'quiet' year. I guess if I people don't care to play indies or prefer to play them on other consoles, that takes out a large chunk of the Switch's library (90% of the time I buy an indie game it's on Switch because of portability options) but I thought on the whole it was a down year for the 'AAA' market so no matter what console we're talking about indies carried 2022. Of the bigger budgeted games on Switch, however, I thought most delivered. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion, Splatoon 3, Xenoblade 3 and Bayonetta 3 all were great imo, then we got some very good ports of terrific games like 13 Sentinels, NieR Automata and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. To each their own but imo this was the year of the Switch.
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (my Game of the Year across all platforms) 2. Bayonetta 3 3. Kirby and the Forgotten Land 4. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 5. Sonic Frontiers
Best ports/re-releases: 1. NieR: Automata The End of Yorha Edition 2.TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection 3. Atari 50 4. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion 5. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
@electrolite77 The ground work is right there for Nintendo. People have enjoyed the hybrid concept. Just improve the controller (figure out a way to get rid of that drift) and graphics to a significant degree and that's a good start. There are features I'd like to see added as well such as the return of the Virtual Console but that's probably not in the cards.
I'm sure it was considered at some point but once we got past March 2021, a revision with more power didn't really make much sense. I'll be interested to see how Nintendo transitions to the next-gen hardware, whenever it happens. It always did pretty well with that on the handheld side (3DS had a rough start but eventually sold well), but on the home console front only NES to SNES went somewhat smoothly. Hopefully Nintendo gets it right this time and this isn't another Wii to Wii U disaster.
The Switch trailer got me hyped about the console, the Wii U trailer did not. Of course that's not the end all be all for somebody like me who follows gaming but I was working at GameStop at the time and it was astounding the number of people I talked to who were clueless as to what the Wii U was. That told me all I needed to know that Nintendo was going to have a hard time selling the machine. Factor in that many of its best launch games could already be played on PS3 or Xbox 360 and it didn't really stand a chance before it even hit the market.
Batman: Arkham City. Didn't play it on Wii U but I did play it on PS3 and I'm sure the Wii U version is comparable enough that nothing on this list tops it. I did like New Super Mario Bros. U but it's a distant second.
Great collection. Got it mainly for the Lynx and Jaguar games. Always wanted to own one of those but was real young at the time, so obviously no job and my parents spoiled me with Nintendo and Sega stuff, wasn't about to ask for more. Great to have some of those games on modern, accessible platforms now.
@Jamessmooth No problem. The game still does have some issues like pop in on the Series X but the performance and overall experience is much better. Having a 60 frames per second mode is cool, too, Sonic should be played at a higher framerate. I'd say unless you really value portability, Series X, PS5 or PC is the way to go.

They're actually really good games. I've bought them for PlayStation and Xbox and will be getting them again for Switch.
