Re: Feature: Nintendo's Year In Review - Our Team Chats Big Switch Games, Butt Discourse, And Sakurai's Cat

Gamer83

@GrailUK
In addition to the Switch the other modern consoles I have are PS5, Series X and PS4, all are hooked up and I still bought and played more games on Switch than the others. It was far from a 'quiet' year. I guess if I people don't care to play indies or prefer to play them on other consoles, that takes out a large chunk of the Switch's library (90% of the time I buy an indie game it's on Switch because of portability options) but I thought on the whole it was a down year for the 'AAA' market so no matter what console we're talking about indies carried 2022. Of the bigger budgeted games on Switch, however, I thought most delivered. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion, Splatoon 3, Xenoblade 3 and Bayonetta 3 all were great imo, then we got some very good ports of terrific games like 13 Sentinels, NieR Automata and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. To each their own but imo this was the year of the Switch.

Re: Video: What Were Your Top Five Switch Games Of 2022?

Gamer83

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (my Game of the Year across all platforms)
2. Bayonetta 3
3. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
4. Xenoblade Chronicles 3
5. Sonic Frontiers

Best ports/re-releases:
1. NieR: Automata The End of Yorha Edition
2.TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection
3. Atari 50
4. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
5. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

@electrolite77
The ground work is right there for Nintendo. People have enjoyed the hybrid concept. Just improve the controller (figure out a way to get rid of that drift) and graphics to a significant degree and that's a good start. There are features I'd like to see added as well such as the return of the Virtual Console but that's probably not in the cards.

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

Gamer83

I'm sure it was considered at some point but once we got past March 2021, a revision with more power didn't really make much sense. I'll be interested to see how Nintendo transitions to the next-gen hardware, whenever it happens. It always did pretty well with that on the handheld side (3DS had a rough start but eventually sold well), but on the home console front only NES to SNES went somewhat smoothly. Hopefully Nintendo gets it right this time and this isn't another Wii to Wii U disaster.

Re: Feature: Wii U Vs. Switch - How Did Those Nintendo Hardware Reveal Trailers Compare?

Gamer83

The Switch trailer got me hyped about the console, the Wii U trailer did not. Of course that's not the end all be all for somebody like me who follows gaming but I was working at GameStop at the time and it was astounding the number of people I talked to who were clueless as to what the Wii U was. That told me all I needed to know that Nintendo was going to have a hard time selling the machine. Factor in that many of its best launch games could already be played on PS3 or Xbox 360 and it didn't really stand a chance before it even hit the market.

Re: Poll: What Was The Best Wii U Launch Game?

Gamer83

Batman: Arkham City. Didn't play it on Wii U but I did play it on PS3 and I'm sure the Wii U version is comparable enough that nothing on this list tops it. I did like New Super Mario Bros. U but it's a distant second.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Sonic Frontiers?

Gamer83

@Jamessmooth
No problem. The game still does have some issues like pop in on the Series X but the performance and overall experience is much better. Having a 60 frames per second mode is cool, too, Sonic should be played at a higher framerate. I'd say unless you really value portability, Series X, PS5 or PC is the way to go.

Re: Video: Here's A Closer Look At Bayonetta 3's Censored "Naive Angel" Mode

Gamer83

I won't be using it, but I've always said, especially given the tech that exists today and the size of most dev teams, they should be able to give more options to players, it's better for everyone. If somebody doesn't feel comfortable with the semi-nudity, this is a good solution. And for those of us who want to play the game uncensored as intended, we still can. I wish more devs did this rather than just censor games outright.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 29th)

Gamer83

Mostly Bayonetta 3 and Sunday starts a week off from work so I'll be able to really dig into and enjoy the game. Might also try to mix in some NieR: Automata The End of Yorha Edition, finishing up the 'B" scenario then moving to the next. Bayo 3 is going to be the main focus, though, love what I played so far.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Prefer 'Super Mario Odyssey 2' Or A Totally New 3D Mario?

Gamer83

@NeonPizza
I didn't even think about that. I'm sure Wario Land was a decent seller on Wii but, 14 years after, and the fact that several other Wii games have received ports or remasters, it makes total sense. And, while not perfect, the joy cons can recreate the Wii remote controls close enough. I'd prefer a brand new entry in the WL series but an HD remaster of Shake It would be fine too. It'd be a day one buy, just like Return to Dreamland will be.

Re: Best Licensed Games On Nintendo Switch

@TioRogerio
I agree. It didn't get the best critical reception but most people I converse with who have played it, like it a lot. Seems like it sold decently but not well enough to get a sequel.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

Gamer83

Both Platinum Games and Nintendo (since it is funding some, or maybe all of the game) have to respond to this with more than just a tweet about 'untruths.' I won't be boycotting the game but there are others who will and that's their right and I do think, now that we know one side of the story, the other parties involved owe people some type of explanation. Don't know for sure if this is an issue of being cheap or not. I can't imagine it would cost less to get Jennifer Hale to do the voice work as she is a big name in the game industry and has a longer list of credits recently. If they felt a bigger name might lead to more sales I could see going that route, but there should've been a better answer at the start than overlapping circumstances as to why the original voice actress didn't return. Companies sometimes really don't think this PR stuff through.

Re: Nintendo Rules Out Any Price Increase On The Switch In Japan... For Now

Gamer83

@Would_you_kindly
Yeah. And, tbh, I think of all the big 3, MS actually is the most likely take the hit. It's do so before with original Xbox, although obviously it was trying to establish itself then. Now it would be more for better hardware sales, not sure if MS values that very high but if it does, I could see the company taking the trade off a little less profit on hardware for better marketshare and hope to make up the difference with better software and accessory sales.
