Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2D Platformers

Gamer83

Lots of good stuff, Switch has been my go-to system for most 2D games (platformers or otherwise). I'd say my five favorites in this genre are Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Sonic Mania, DKC Tropical Freeze, Mega Man 11 and Sonic Superstars (played on Xbox Series X, not Switch, though).

Re: Review: Sonic Superstars - A Fine, Authentic-Feeling Return That Runs Great On Switch

Gamer83

Expected to like the game but happy to say I've enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. Big fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog series going back to the Genesis days, heck, the original is what made me choose Genesis over the SNES. The last couple years have been great with Frontiers and now this. And while gameplay is most important, have to give a shout to the graphics, Superstars looks fantastic on Xbox Series X. Great to read that the Switch port is more than competent as well.

Re: Batman Arkham Trilogy For Switch Has Been Delayed Until December

Gamer83

Hopefully it means Arkham Knight will run competently but I've been concerned about that one from the start. Also think the jury is out on City but Switch should be able to run it, don't think Asylum should be difficult either. Knight is my least favorite (by a lot) of the trilogy but it's still a decent game and would be nice for Nintendo fans who missed it to get a playable version of it.

Re: Capcom Would 'Gracefully Decline' An Acquisition Offer From Microsoft

Gamer83

I've said before and I'll keep saying it. The industry consolidation is bad in the long run and MS and Embracer's behaviors in particular have been disgraceful. Also, last thing I want to see as somebody who prefers Japanese games is an American company buying Nintendo, Capcom, Sega, etc. It would completely destroy the culture at these places. Hell I'm not even a big fan of when the Japanese companies merge with eachother, like SquareEnix, unless it's a situation where it's absolutely necessary for the survival of both businesses.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 23rd)

@Picola-Wicola @Vil
Yeah, I played Metroid Prime back when it originally released on Gamecube and got the remaster the day it launched on a physical game card. If you ask me, it's incredible how well the game has aged. Level design still holds up, boss battles are still fantastic and the upgraded graphics and modern control scheme make it easy for anybody to jump into. Can't recommend it enough. MP 1 is among the top 20 greatest games of all-time and now that it's easily accessible I say everybody with a Switch, fan of the series or not, should give it a try.

On Switch I'm playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Bought the DLC and enjoying the survival mode and using the new characters in the story. Also been revisiting my favorite game on the system, Metroid Dread, which I haven't played in a while.

PS5 - Tekken 7

Xbox Series X - AEW Fight Forever

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think about the badges, so it's like stated in my other comment, still looking forward to the game and will wait to play it before fully judging. I love 2D Mario games, even the 'New' series, and I'm sure once I get the game and see how all the different mechanics work, I'll realize what the devs did actually makes sense.

Re: Poll: Mario & Sonic Face Off On Switch This October - Whose Corner Are You In?

Gamer83

Pre-ordered both. I'm a big fan of each series. The first video game I ever played was Super Mario Bros. 1, way back in December 1987 when my grandparents bought my uncle an NES for Christmas. Sonic the Hedgehog 1 was the reason I got a Genesis. I prefer the Mario games so Wonder is the one I'm slightly more hyped for but Superstars is a day one purchase as well. Getting Spider-Man 2, also. Going to be a jam-packed mid-late October.

Re: Poll: What's Your Game Of The Year Of 2023 So Far?

Gamer83

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's the easy choice but the game is awesome. I couldn't get into BotW, for whatever reason, and with TotK being more of the same, I'm shocked I like it as much as I have but it just feels like a better product overall.

I don't believe in counting remasters/remakes of games in GOTY discussion, but if I did, then as much as I like Tears of the Kingdom, my vote would have to go to Metroid Prime Remastered. Over two decades later and that game still holds up phenomenally well and it's even better, imo, with the modern control option selected. Would love to see 2 and 3 get the same care, but I want MP 4 first.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Has Surpassed 10 Million Sales In Three Days

Gamer83

Considering the sales numbers Breath of the Wild managed and the hype this game generated, I guess 10 mil+ in 3 days isn't surprising but still extremely impressive. Wasn't sure what the total would be but the midnight launch at my local Gamestop was the first one in years that drew a good sized crowd so I expected the game would be a big hit.

Re: Video: We Went To A Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Midnight Launch

Gamer83

This was the first real midnight launch (meaning it took place at 12 am not 9 pm like most have recently), in the area I live in a long time and it's the first one I've attended since 2013 or 2014. Had a great time. Lots of people, which I didn't expect but was great to see a large turnout, one of my co-workers was there and I was chatting with a bunch of other people and reminiscing about big video game midnight events of the past. Wasn't sure I was going to attend it at first but happy I did and very happy to get my physical copy of TotK at the earliest time possible here.
