Re: 'Worldless' Mixes Metroidvania Exploration And Innovative Combat On Switch Next Month

Freek

You had me at Metroidvania.

Just recently finished Blasphemous 2 ( excellent), Sundered Eldritch Edition (under rated gem) and Moonscars (loved it) so I'll bite.

Also just hunted down a cheap new physical copy of Dogworld after reading the NL community suggestions and I am currently playing through Gal Guardians so this looks like my sort of game.

No, there are never enough Metroidvania's, I've had a lot of very lean years before the Switch so I'm loving this generation.

Started playing Sundered Eldritch Edition.
Now I'm addicted to it, such a great Metroidvania with rogue like elements.
Thoroughly enjoying it.

Also started Gal Guardians Demon Purge, enjoyable but it hasn't grabbed me yet.

Just finished Axiom Verge 2 and thought it was excellent.

I will start either Astalon or Blasphemous 2 next.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Just finished Moonscars.
Really loved it, has a real Blasphemous vibe.

Started Axiom Verge 2 since my CE arrived, absolutely loving it.

Also my Blasphemous 2 and Gal Guardians Demon Purge physical arrived so I'll be getting into either one of those two.

Have a great weekend everyone.

@KimBread
My favourites are:
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Afterimage
Ghost Song

Definitely Ori, it is beautiful and is one of the best.
Afterimage if you want a massive game with multiple endings and some really nice art.
Ghost Song if you want a game with heaps of atmosphere and great sound.

Elderand and Infernax if you want a more traditional Castlevania type of Metroidvania.

Honestly though, they all deserve a playthrough.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Spot New Behind-The-Scenes Updates

Freek

Just bring it already!

I seriously can't wait for this game.
I love the original.

Thankfully I've had a few Metroidvania's released in the meantime to pass the time and am playing catch-up with others.

Just finished Infernax, Elderand, Ori & the will of Wisps, Ghost Song, The Guise, Salt and Sanctuary, Afterimage, Outbuddies DX , Astronite and Aeterna Noctis in the last few months alone and have bought a heap more as well.

Still, would be nice to finally play this though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 23rd)

Just got my N64 iQue so I'll be playing around with that.

Also finished Elderand and loved it, recommend it.
Started my LE of Infernax and I'm really enjoying it.

Bought a physical copy of Moonscars as well so I'll be straight into that after Infernax.

My LE of Axiom Verge 2 arrived so too my copy of Blasphemous 2 so I've got Metroidvania overload, not that I'm complaining though.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Showcases His Rare Gaming Collectibles

Snowboard Kids 2,Starcraft 64 and the other 265+ cib N64 games that were released in Pal territories.
All mint.
Sealed Pal Ikaruga GameCube game.
Sealed Pal Odama big box GameCube game.
Sealed Zelda Four swords Big Box Australian release.
A Blue seal N64 iQue, not the more common red or purple.
There's a few other rarities in my collection but they're probably the rarest.
I bought doubles years ago so yes, I have played them.

I would love a few of the signatures that's in the video, that's for sure.

Re: Morkull Ragast's Rage Is A Hollow Knight-Like Action Platformer Coming To Switch Next Year

Freek

I'm all for a decent clone of another game.
I recently bought The Guise, definitely inspired by Hollow Knight but thoroughly enjoyed it and it was cheap.
I have no problems buying clones if they're good enough, we wouldn't have half the games on Switch if it wasn't for clones and I don't understand why people get upset by it.

I bought Skull: The Hero Slayer, a brilliant Dead Cells clone, it even has The Beheaded as a playable character so obviously developers have no problems with clones so why should we?

It's been happening for years.

This looks good enough to add to my wishlist.

Just finished Haiku The Robot after my physical copy arrived, absolutely loved it.
100% it and I look forward to trying corrupt mode.

Will go back to Phoenotopia Awakening since I took a break to play Haiku.

My Axiom Verge 2 Collectors Edition has been shipped from LRG so I can't wait to finally play that.

Pick up Elderand next Friday so I'm in Metroidvania heaven atm.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 26th)

Halfway through Phoenotopia Awakening, enjoying the slower pace.
Started New Game+ on Ghost Song as I love this game.
Also, my Haiku the Robot physical arrived this week so I'll be getting into that as well.

Also watching my daughter play Wind Waker HD on the Wii U for the first time, forgot how good it looks.

Have a great weekend everyone

Re: Review: Ghost Song - A Potent Mix Of Metroid And Dark Souls, But Maybe Not On Switch

Freek

Finished this game and highly recommend it on Switch.
I bought the physical version.
It has been patched and is a much better game for it.
If you like a Metroidvania with excellent atmosphere then this really shouldn't be passed on.
I played both handheld and docked and it performed well on both.
Also, if you have a decent sound system or play with headphones you're in for a treat.
The atmosphere is amazing.
One of my favourite Metroidvania's and I've played over 20 this year already.
Load times are a lot less than 15 seconds too, more like 2 to 5.
I would up the rating to about an 8, 9 if you like your Super Metroids over your Dreads.
If you're thinking of grabbing it and the initial review made you wait then I can recommend grabbing it.
Btw, it has an "Adventure" mode for those who want an easier experience so that negative listed really doesn't count.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 19th)

@gcunit
Yeah I was playing the Switch version.
It performed ok.
It did have some stuttering and the load times were about 2 seconds between screens, sometimes a little bit longer but I still absolutely loved my time with it.
It wasn't game breaking and didn't cause any deaths so that's the main thing.
I played it in original mode, it also has adventure mode which makes it a bit easier.
The atmosphere alone is worth it and if you have a decent sound system or play it with headphones you're in for a treat.
I played both docked and handheld and found it to play fine, I'm not fussy though.
I'd still recommend it to anyone interested.

Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?

I sold my SNES collection to get a new PS1 on release.
All cib, mint.
To this day I want to kick myself right in the.....you get the point.

I have kept every game and console since and have actually added to my collections.

I have a full Pal N64 collection, all mint, all complete, some of my N64 games:

Kids love playing them and they can sell them for stupid $$$ to help them when they're older.

In the meantime we get to enjoy the full N64 experience.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 5th)

Freek

Just finished both Momodora and Minoria, really enjoyed both.
Also finally beat Salt and Sanctuary
I enjoyed it but won't be rushing back for more pain in a hurry.
Started The Guise
Another great Metroidvania, think Hollow Knight meets Tim Burton.
Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Also still plodding along in Totk.

Have a great weekend everyone

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Store Your Games Collection?

Freek

I have a full complete in box N64 collection (245+) which as you could imagine takes up a lot of space
I have half stored in glass cabinets to show and play (in box protectors) and half in a massive box stored away.
I rotate my collection on what I'm playing or plan on playing as needed.
I also have 80+ Wii U games, 60+ GameCube games, 70+ Wii Games, 50+ PS4 games and 60+ 360 games all on shelves including my fast growing Switch collection.
It keeps me busy.
Oh, and yes, I have a stupidly massive backlog

Re: Metroid Dread Wasn't A "Chaotic" Project, Working With Nintendo Was "Game Changing", Says Dev

Freek

@beartown
Yes, excellent game.
I'm currently playing Salt and Sanctuary and just finished Super Daryl Deluxe which I highly recommend.
This year alone I've finished Afterimage, Outbuddies DX, Aeterna Noctis, Souldiers, Ender Lillies, Mummy Demastered, Astronite and Haak which I enjoyed.
I've also pre-ordered physical copies of Elderand, Vernal Edge, Haiku the Robot, Wife Quest and Ghost Song.
So yes, I like Metroidvania's 😁

Re: Metroid Dread Wasn't A "Chaotic" Project, Working With Nintendo Was "Game Changing", Says Dev

Freek

@Yalloo
Compared to other Metroidvania's it is very rail roaded.
Not once did I feel lost like you do in a lot of Metroidvania's, one of the whole reasons you need to explore.
I felt like I was being pointed in a certain direction through the whole game.
Sure you can traverse from your one side to the other but I didn't feel like I wanted or needed to.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I didn't.
I like it but I wasn't the best in the genre that's for sure.

Re: Metroid Dread Wasn't A "Chaotic" Project, Working With Nintendo Was "Game Changing", Says Dev

Freek

@beartown
I feel the same.
I was super excited to finally get another Metroid game but I really didn't enjoy this game.
I own nearly all the Metroidvania's on Switch and I think Hollow Knight and a few others are a much better game.
Dread felt too linear and railroaded compared to others in the franchise imo.
I think Indies have done a better job on Switch in regards to MV games.
I'm glad others enjoyed it but I'll wait for Metroid Prime for my Metroid fix

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

Freek

I'll add.....
Afterimage, Salt and Sanctuary, Haak, Aeterna Noctis, Super Daryl Deluxe to the list

I have nearly all those games on the list and I wouldn't consider Narita Boy a Metroidvania, it's a great game but not really a Metroidvania.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 29th)

Freek

Still playing Salt and Sanctuary.
Enjoying it but man can it be brutal.

Also downloaded Momodora Reverie Under the Moonlight and Minoria whilst on sale.

So I'll play either Infernax, Phoenotopia Awakening, Momodora or Minoria next.

I also pre-ordered Haiku the Robot, Vernal Edge, Skautfold Bloody Pack, Ghost Song and Elderand physical copies as well.
Great time to be a Metroidvania fan.

Have a great weekend everyone
