Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th December)

FishyS

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. And happy holiday next week for those who celebrate. This week I have been playing:

  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment - Still early game but enjoying myself. I really like the storytelling and the combat is quite fun as well.
  • Dadish 4 - In an amazing twist, rather than the child radishes getting kidnapped, this time the father radish gets kidnapped and one of the children is off to save him. I love this platformer series and couldn't resist snagging the new game immediately.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Mostly playing the new multiplayer season.
  • Picross LogiartGrimoire - I'm finishing up the 3rd DLC pack.
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - A little low on things to do at the moment, but continuing to add stars to new visitors and doing the holiday events.

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. Kind of busy this week so I just played a little of some of my default short-session games:

  • Tetris 99 - Playing for the event. 50 events over 6 years! I'm glad they keep supporting this game even though Nintendo probably thinks of it as just a way to advertise their new games with Tetris 99 themes.
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - There are somehow even more visitors. I thought I was done when I got 50 to move in to my island but apparently not 👀 Imagine Animal Crossing wirh over 70 villagers and campers at the same time.
  • Kirby's Dream Buffet - Surprisingly I've been getting matches all week. After literal years of no matches. So I've been playing more since humans make the races more fun.
  • Picross LogiartGrimoire - Working on the Lesson 6 levels in DLC 3.
  • Super Mario Maker 2 - Just playing levels from a few followed accounts.

Re: Netflix Enters Agreement To Buy Warner Bros. For $82 Billion, Includes Game Studios

FishyS

All Batman games will now only be available on mobile as part of Netflix Games.

I don't have a strong opinion on the merger, but with HBO max maybe dying and Hulu in the process of dying and the Funimation app recently dying, it's been interesting watching streaming services going from only a couple big ones to 50 zillion different services and now they are consolidating again.

Re: Nintendo Announces 50th Maximus Cup Event For Tetris 99

FishyS

Still a great game 6 years in. I realize Maximus Cups are effectively just one way Nintendo advertises new games, but I really enjoy them so I am glad they continue to exist.

Tetris 99 is my 7th most played game on Switch; I mostly only play during Cups, but even that adds up over 50 events.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th November (North America)

FishyS

I'll get the new Picross games eventually but I have a long Picross backlog right now so I'll probably wait for a sale.

It's interesting that Roller Katz BF: Episode 1 is re-releasing after being previously pulled off the eShop. I own the original on Switch but the new version apparently isn't offering rebates (or free-bates) for people who own the original. As far as I can tell, it is the same exact game but less scuffed.

@Morsel I have 50 visitors unlocked (which is one of the tasks) and have been told there are more.

Re: The Game Awards Nominees Announced, Donkey Kong Bananza Up For GOTY

FishyS

@SirLink I think the reviews of Bananza are good because.. it's an extremely good game. One of the most creative and pure fun games I personally have played in the last few years. I don't think reviews are generally especially biased towards Nintendo - Mario Kart World got good but not excellent reviews and 2 Nintendo games were amongst the worst reviewed games of the year.

Regardless, Bananza has basically no chance to win GotY. Not always, but Game Awards tend to tilt a bit towards Western games and against family-friendly games

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Kirby Air Riders?

FishyS

@Aswannsong I believe Kirby has sold more than F-Zero, Metroid, Pikmin and Kid Icarus combined. Plus Kirby plushies are quite popular. Sure, Kirby is no Mario or Zelda or Pokemon, but it's still one of Nintendo's most popular franchises. The players on this website have scored quite a few Kirby games as above 8/10 so I wouldn't call it a '7/10 franchise'.

Re: The Game Awards Nominees Announced, Donkey Kong Bananza Up For GOTY

FishyS

@SirLink Why shouldn't Bananza be in the list? It got better reviews than Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Death Stranding which are also in the list and has the same metacritic score as Silksong. For the most part, the contenders are just the games which got good reviews and Bananza was in the top 5 for the year review-wise.

Personally I think both the extremely good reviews and the GotY nomination are very deserved.

@eaglebob345 Yeah, I feel like Split Fiction got the short end of the stick. It reviewed very well and was fairly popular but I guess it just didn't have as much 'hype' as the other games.

@AlonditeFE I was surprised Bananza wasn't in action adventure. They often plop Nintendo games like Zelda in that category and leave 'action' for the more violent or fast-paced action games.

@TheBigK Although I agree they like to throw Nintendo a bone, Bananza is one of the best reviewed games of the year (Number 5 on metacritic) so it makes sense to be on the list.

@UpsideDownRowlet I feel like Deltarune should have been in the 'best ongoing game' category but that category is kind of non-creative - it includes Final Fantasy 14 and Fortnite every single year.

Re: Best Zelda Games Of All Time

FishyS

The ordering of Zelda games is always kind of funny when 2/3rds of them were extremely well received. I'm planning to get the new Hyrule Warriors later; sounds very good for a spinoff.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th November)

FishyS

@Morsel That actually is a pretty fascinating combination of two games to play.

I was looking down the poll in this article yesterday and it's impressive how many very different but good games make the list. Over 200 games only got a single vote. I'm happy to always see Hello Kitty in the 3-4 vote range though.

Re: Mailbox: 3D Mario Predictions, Gaming Redemptions, Grammar Talk - Nintendo Life Letters

FishyS

Including the 2 advertising bots was hilarious 😆

I have no conscious memory of when 'releases' started being used. If you had asked me before I read this article, I would have assumed that it had always been used. Now I kind of want to know the history.

What's wrong with the phrase 'I could care less?' Just assume people mean it literally; the person currently cares a certain amount and is capable of caring less than that amount.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th November)

FishyS

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. This week I have been playing:

  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - I caved in and got the Switch 2 edition upgrade for $10. The game looked sharper for a few minutes but then my brain adjusted and I can no longer tell the difference. 😝 Not worth the upgrade, but oh well.
  • Kirby's Dream Buffet - The recent Nintendo Music release reminded me that I hadn't unlocked everything in this game so I have been playing again. Such a fun little game. I wish multiplayer was active, but it's still fun to play around against the bots now and then.
  • KLONOA Phantasy Reverie Series - The recent Switch 2 OS update finally fixed this game! I'm restarting the first game in the collection. It looks really good on Switch 2 now that it doesn't instantly crash!
  • NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition - I got this game for a few dollars earlier this year and was waiting for it to be fixed on Switch 2 to play it. I decided to just start. If it breaks I'll swap to Switch 1 😅

Re: Hello Kitty Island Adventure - Switch 2 Edition Now Available, Includes Paid Upgrade For Switch

FishyS

@rjejr It's mostly the same game but no city and there aren't in-app purchases. As far as I know, no item is truly limited because we can still get all the previous event items during new events. Some quests are definitely 'come back a day later' but it doesn't realy feel like a mobile game to me - I typically play between 30 and 90 minutes at a time and I skip some days since things are stored for several days so you don't really miss out on anything by skipping a couple days. The platforming and racing feels good with an actual controller as opposed to touch screen. And the game is quite pretty and expansive on a big screen, especially the new DLC map.

Re: How Are You Finding Switch Game And App Compatibility On The Switch 2?

FishyS

Most of my games are supported and some of them have almost magical improvements on Switch 2. I do have games which aren't supported also and at least one of them isn't supprted even though Nintendo says it is supported which is a bit annoying — Nintendo support kind of just shrugged at their own error and didn't fix the database after I spoke to them .

I wouldn't mind more apps (YouTube, Crunchyroll) but I also don't care too much.

So, overall, I'm mostly happy even if there are a few annoyances.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (6th November)

FishyS

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. This week I have been playing:

  • Kirby Air Riders - Playing the demo. I am not a huge fan of the chaotic city trial but the normal races seem decent and some of the mini games are fun. The tutorial had a bizarre and annoying bug for me but I assume that will be fixed by the time the game releases. I haven't decided whether I want to buy the game or not. For now I'll try more of the demo.
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - Waiting for a couple visitors to come and searching for a few missing collectables.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Doing the ranked battles. I kinda dislike the free-for-all format of these battles, but I want the prizes 😆
  • Super Mario Maker 2 - The new Nintendo Store app which includes daily playtime tells me I have played this game on 546 separate days 😅 It's been a few weeks, so I just felt like playing a few levels today.
  • Picross LogiartGrimoire - Gotta get my Picross fix.

Fun to see Nintendo Life just had its 20th birthday. I hope the site lasts for many more years.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st November)

FishyS

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. Not a ton of game time but I have been playing a bit of:

  • Mad Father - My Halloween game. An RPG Maker type game where you are a little girl in a mansion. The use of sound effects makes it remarkably horrifying in parts. Also, quite gruesome - I just keep dying horribly 😅
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - I mostly finished the DLC now and also finished the main flower quests. It's Hello Kitty's birthday so I'll play whatever the event is for that.
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A - I'll hopefully have time to rank up at least once.
  • Shovel Knight Dig - Bought this game on a good sale recently so just doing some initial digging. Cute game.
  • Picross LogiartGrimoire - Just a couple puzzles; I have run out of the easier ones in DLC 3.
