Re: Poll: Has Donkey Kong Bananza Made You Feel Ill?

FishyS

@Buizel Regarding the 5% saying it is unplayable in the survey, it should be noted that there are almost 60 comments and not a single one of them said they purchased the game and had to permanently stop playing.

One would think anyone in that situation who wasted $70 bucks on a game might be angry and would comment in the comment section.

However, there are several comments of people who had to change the camera settings, one who had to medicate to deal with the motion sickness, and a couple who said they have just suffered through it, maybe with breaks.

So I assume those 5% may include people 'rounding up' because the survey options aren't very complete rather than literally not being able to play.

There may also be people who saw some footage, played a 2-minute in-store demo, or just saw that it sometimes flips to first person and just assumed the game would have issues for them so didn't buy it.

I saw a survey on a different website claiming 17% of people have serious motion sickness from FPS (or more generally first person) games. It wasn't a scientific survey, but I'm personally in that camp and have met a lot of others who are too so I could believe that the 17% number isn't crazy. Most of us self regulate by not buying games which might make us sick. I'm not buying metroid prime 4 because of this reason but if I end up getting queasy watching some YouTube footage and then see a survey like this I'll have to decide if I want to choose the unplayable option or just not vote.

In this game I was briefly worried I would get permanently motion sick but I quickly learned to tame the camera and now only occasionally get a little sick.

Re: Nintendo Has Seemingly Taken Further Steps To Combat 'eSlop' On Switch 2

FishyS

@Oldstalk The Switch 2 eShop has been getting around 70 new releases a week, so lack of dev kits certainly isn't slowing the slop down. Sure, they aren't Switch 2 exclusive but they're tagged with Nintendo's official 'works on Switch 2'.

I suspect as soon as they do have dev kits, these scammy publishers will just release the same games as Switch 2 editions as a way to try to double their eShop presence.

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. I pre-ordered Bananza so now I am staring at the icon on my home screen. It's the most expensive game I've ever bought but hopefully it will be worth it. For this week I have been playing:

  • Super Mario Maker 2 - Been awhile since I played. Mostly Playing some fun levels made by followed creators.
  • Planet of Lana - Fun and pretty game though I got seriously stuck on a pipe organ puzzle. Edit: I have now finished. Really beautiful and relaxing game.
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - I finally started working more on visitors. I never realized you could get like 50 permanent island residents if you make enough visitors happy 👀 That's kind of too many.
  • The Plucky Squire - Grabbed on sale. Runs well on Switch 2. I'm undecided about the 3D parts, but the storybook parts are extremely charming.
  • Picross LogiartGrimoire - After a long Picross break, I felt the need to get back in.

Re: PSA: You Might Want To Be Careful Buying Pre-Owned Switch 1 Games For Your Switch 2

FishyS

@HeadPirate There have been plenty of complaints about people getting banned from their Microsoft account or even devices for odd reasons. And Microsoft has a very similar TOS as Nintendo; there was an outcry about it some years back.

I'm not saying we should support overly draconic anti-piracy rules, but there is a weird tendency to demonize only Nintendo for similar rules as others.

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. This week I have been playing:

  • Kitten Lost Her Box - Adorable precision platformer. It's very short so I already 100%-ed it. The bosses are really cute and fun in this game and other games by the same dev.
  • Planet of Lana - Chill and pretty puzzle platformer with a crazy opening sequence and interesting setting.
  • Game Builder Garage - Decided to play some stages after the recent video about it. Very impressive what some players are able to create.
  • JustAxe - I'm slightly confused by the plot, but basically a Russian girl is called out to travel through monster infested lands and all she has is an axe so she uses it to fight, platform, and get around obstacles. It's kinda surreal and kinda cute. I've only played one level so far which was like 30 minutes long.
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - I've finally unlocked all the residents (I think?) so I am working through some quests related to the newer residents.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch (2) Game Of The Year So Far?

FishyS

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is the only 2025-published game I've played a lot of. It's quite good - I gave it 8/10 as my personal score--but my GotY is usually 9/10 or 10/10 so I suspect it will get replaced in the second half of the year. Possibly by Bananza.

Re: Pauline's Age In Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Revealed

FishyS

@speedracer216 @roy130390 I think the reason she looks smaller than her age is because she's on an enormous ape.

@Neckcrane I'd like to think that the donkey kong in the original arcade game is this one and that him and Pauline were friends since childhood (e.g. bananza). Sadly arcade Pauline has memory loss and DK is trying to cure her but Mario keeps interfering.

Happy weekend and gaming everyone! I managed to snag a Switch 2 after looking for a few days but I haven't bought any new games so I've mostly been testing old ones:

  • Princess Peach: Showtime! - Not a huge performance boost besides faster loading screens but I remembered how much I loved this game. It could use a Switch 2 update; I might completely replay it if it gets one.
  • Cult of the Lamb - I gave up on this game on Switch because it was so laggy and slow but it runs sooooo much better on Switch 2. It's basically perfect now.
  • Super Mario Maker 2 - Runs the same on most levels (I didn't manage to find one of those glitch ultra laggy levels ) but the Pro Controller 2 is an actual dream to play with this game. Far fewer mis inputs.
  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure -Better performance, better graphics, better loading on Switch 2. Already a great game but now better.
  • Fitness Circuit - Used my old joycons which are very easy to connect to Switch 2. Otherwise runs basically the same.
  • Fall Guys - I didn't notice any performance changes but I was mostly happy an online-only game transitioned perfectly.
  • Suika Game - One would think a simple game like this wouldn't care which console it was on, but loading was significantly faster on Switch 2.
  • Pokémon Violet - Comparatively gorgeous now and having pokemon load before they are an inch away is such a quality of life improvement. I'm not sure if I want to go back and play the game more, but this certainly makes me feel more positive about future Pokemon games.
  • Tetris Effect - Performance was the same (it was already fine) but the headphone connection to pro 2 controller was very nice for this game.
  • Street Fighter 6 (demo) - Quite fun and impressive looking demo, though I felt like I might break my new controller if I played too much 😅
  • No Man's Sky - Looks and runs great on Switch 2 with the patch.
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - Maybe I'm blind but I didn't notice any difference with the Switch 2 patch. Maybe because my tv isn't 4K?

Re: As Switch 2 Breaks Records Worldwide, Sony Reminds Us That PS5 Still Exists

FishyS

I've never had a PS5, but I've been tempted in the past. However the fact that a lot of PS5 exclusives become non-exclusive after a short wait and some of those are even coming to Switch 2 has significantly decreased my interest in PS5.

@Kienda Nintendo Life is definitely not gloating 😆 Remember that the small company which runs NL has a PlayStation and xbox site too so they don't want console wars, they want all the consoles to do well.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

@Joeynator3000 Walmart via online order is where I ended up getting mine on Sunday. They seem to sell mostly in store but randomly have some online daily — you have to snag them super fast though which is why checking the websites regularly or using the instock tracking app (or something similar) is handy. In theory gamestop and best buy will sell online at some point but I don't know when (best buy said they wouldn't sell online for the first week). Target has had some online orders available sporadically but they sell out super quickly. It's honestly a bit of a blood bath fighting each time online sales appear but hopefully they will keep getting more stock. Best of luck to you.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

FishyS

Very much enjoying the Switch 2 I got last night. Feels extremely polished in most ways.

@Joeynator3000 good luck! It took me most of a week, but I found one by stalking every major US retailer which sells switch 2. Some of them seem to get a trickle every day amd a lot of the apps and websites both say if you can order any online and if any store nearby has one. I ended up getting one at Walmart by spamming everytime they did their apparently nightly update of online orders. I also suggest the InStock mobile app which attempts to track all Switch 2 appearances.

I hope you get one soon. Hopefully stock will keep coming so everyone serious about getting one in June can find one.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (7th June)

FishyS

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. I hope everyone who got a Switch 2 has been enjoying it.

I have spent all my game time the last few days stalking inventory trying to find a Switch 2. 😆 Standing in lines, spamming buttons when one pops up online, etc. I have gotten very close, seeing others in-person get one in front of me in line and getting one into an electronic shopping kart several times before they ran out. They pop up often enough I don't doubt I'll get one, but there are a lot of hunters like me I have to fight. I have managed to obtain a screen protector, a 512gb sd card and a Pro 2 Controller.

The only actual game I've played this week is Fitness Circuit.

Happy weekend and gaming everyone. I've been organizing my games a bit this week in hopes I manage to snag a Switch 2 next week. I have also been playing:

  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure - Checking out the recent updates. The stacking update is really nice; I can finally put food on my table!
  • Tetris 99 - I just bought the final theme. I'll probably take a Tetris break for awhile next week but it's been interesting playing so much outside of the competitions; I feel like more of the players are super good at certain times of day on random weekdays than the crowd which joins events.
  • Ninja Gaiden (NSO) - Just finished the NES game... by cheating and putting a save state before the final boss 😝 The first few worlds are pretty chill but Act 6 is brutal with the very limited lives and somewhat tight timers and occasional enemy spam. It was fun though.
  • Fitness Circuit - Trying to put this back into my regular workout routine.
