1,000 Year Door. No contest. There are some great Mario RPG's, few of them are bad, but 1,000 YD takes the cake, the ice cream, whatever is left over of the pizza.
Trying to avoid downloading Double Dragon Advance and Super Double Dragon. The entire collection looks tempting, but those are both very good brawlers with great music and rewarding combat (I still have the original cartridges, but they're just that good).
I'm almost done 100-percenting Super Mario Wonder, and have about 5-10 hours left to 100-percent Sea of Stars. I'm trying to wrap those two up so I can start Star Ocean: Second Story R next week.
I really like Super Mario Wonder. I WISH it was released back in the era when I had gamer friends living nearby. It would be a blast with multiple players.
I didn't know that ages were listed on here. Honestly, I'm in my 40's. This game was at least sixty dollars back then, so it's basically nothing to me by any comparison. I will definitely be getting it once I finish Star Ocean 2nd Story R, and have no problem paying sixty dollars for this.
breathes, wishes we would stop using blanket statements to generalize each other by age, culture, etc.
I borrowed this game about twenty-one years ago and played on a friend's PS2. I really liked it, but had to give the game and console back shortly after a major plot point, still early in the game - all I had was Nintendo stuff back then.
I played the demo for the new version on PS5 and Switch. Both versions look really good and run well, but I went with the physical PS5 version. It just shipped, so I'm looking forward to this, finishing up Sea of Stars and Super Mario Wonder to make room. This will be my autumn/winter RPG. Super Mario RPG also looks tempting, but I've played that one so many times all the way through on SNES.
Hopefully they take their time with this. This one doesn't look very special - It's probably in a very early stage though. Hopefully Jake Hunter is still as over the top as ever.
Also, I have the original game on Switch. It is very good, lots of fun with crazy moves and characters. Maybe a good Halloween game for tonight.
I think it all depends if the next console is radically different or not. The switch was such a departure from wii u, that it was understandable after everything was revealed. If the next console is similar in function and form, and doesn't have bc as a feature, it could turn a lot of people off. Then again, a lot of people would buy a turd if it had the nintendo logo on it, for better or worse.
Though, the fact that wii u had excellent bc and still failed is a strong argument that bc doesn't matter, but I'm ultimately inclined to disagree with that.
I think lots of people would appreciate it though.
Sea of Stars on PS5 ("free" on PS Plus rn), and a little bit of F-Zero 99 mixed in for good measure.
Uh....Sea of Stars is just as good as people are saying it is. They seriously nailed it. It feels like a late-90's RPG that went down as a bonafide classic in another universe. Fantastic game, hard to put down. Deep, rewarding battle system, beautiful graphics and music, likable characters, the whole nine yards.
Not surprised. If it makes anyone feel better, I don't really enjoy it. It looks really good, but just isn't that fun to play. I had more fun playing Friday the 13th, on both Switch and PS5, than I did with Evil Dead.
I believe this will happen, and as cheap as it is, I hope it is so. Maybe they will upscale the graphics and stuff. I'd be okay with that. But yes, I think the odds of this happening are pretty strong.
I have tried the xbox one and series x, and both of them just bore me. There's one at work, and they will let me take it home on nights if I want to, but I took it home just to update for the programs I run for gamer groups....I was underwhelmed.
I thought the 360 was really cool, and they really pushed the industry forward with the original xbox and 360 - I will give them that. Playing whatever music I wanted was really cool, and they forced the rest of the industry to get serious about online.
Everything after that has just felt so basic, or worse - starting with how they were getting crazy with the DRM, but more than anything I just don't see any interest in most of the games. Their online is still way better than nintendo's, but can be said about almost any gaming company at this point.
Though, I will reluctantly admit, that I'd love to try Rare replay. That is the only Xbox-exclusive, bar maybe Killer Instinct (another Rare-adjacent game, go figure) that has stirred my interest in about a decade or so.
I think it's great that they brought this to the switch, but I'm so waiting two or year threes for the "ultimate edition" with (most of?) the dlc added on the disc, on sale for like thirty dollars, for PS5.
I hope this never happens. I love playing games on PS5, Switch and Steam, but X-box has always bored me to tears. Mostly FPS, sports games, and generic dude-bro stuff. There are a few exceptions, but I find it very homogenous. Nintendo has faults, like mediocre online and stuff, but I'd hate to see them lose their spark, and I'm sure they would lose it quickly being acquired by such a passionless and mundane company like Microsoft.
Yeah, I really liked it too. I had already preordered the physical version for PS5, but I played the demo on switch, and so I'm extra sold at this point. The environments are very beautiful, and I adjusted to the pixel characters quickly. It works out very well for my eyes. The game also feels very polished.
I was honestly expecting this, but not so soon. I was tempted to get the dlc while playing the ps5 version the other day, and still have my switch copy.
Not sure what to do at this point - It's not like I can't afford it, but I'm thinking I'm going to treat dotemu games like I do fighting games - wait a few years and buy the "ultimate" version when it's on sale.
Thundercats or He-Man, but with graphics that look like the 80's cartoons, with depth of combat like Streets of Rage. Or anything really. All of these are good candidates.
First time in a long time that I preordered a Mario game. Though I will be preordering Super Mario RPG as well.
Anyway, this game is incredibly excited. Incorporating a more "permanent" upgrade system is absolute genius. I can see lots of replay value in it. Also, looking forward to all the stages and musics, especially the beach and nautical-themed ones.
I just preordered this. I'm going to live-steam the entire game. I'm looking forward to all the new ideas, and hopefully they get really crazy with it.
I love Fatal Fury. I'm definitely interested in this. I love using Joe, Mai and Terry. Also, the dope music. I was pretty good at 2 and Special. FF 3 is a true thinking-person's fighter though. Requires utmost skill and patience. This new one looks like it could be good.
I'm looking forward to it. 100 percented Cyber Shadow on switch, hope to do it again on playstation and nab some trophies. It is fantastic. Razor sharp gameplay with a hard edge, but is fair and rewards mastery. I'm just taking a break from ninja games for a while. Moonrider is definitely next. Joymasher does not disappoint.
After playing through this game a good bit, and grabbing the endings, I have to say.....A seven is a good score for this game. What's frustrating, is that a few minor things could've made this so much better.
And, the main thing for me is the lack of moves. Even the first Double Dragon on NES had a back-elbow, a head butt, a ground-pound, and two different grapple attacks - and separate punch and kick buttons.
The move-sets aren't bad, and there is a proper grapple, jumping attacks, special moves, and run attacks.
They could've elevated the combat just by adding a few regular directional combos, and some additional attacks to execute while grabbling (aka Double Dragon 2 on NES).
The game itself is good, and looks very good in action, much better than some are giving it credit for. There is also a nice flow to it, and I have genuinely enjoyed it so far. It's just that there are a few missed opportunities that could've made the game GREAT, and on par with other recently-praised 2.5d brawlers (you know which ones I'm talking about).
So yeah, great music, fun gameplay, and while the graphics are a matter of taste, I enjoy them. My main issue with the game is that the developers could have just used another layer or two of depth to combat, and the variation in combat tactics is kinda what sets Double Dragon apart from other brawlers. That, and the difficult platforming sections, which are surprisingly abundant in this one.
The variation in character choices, and the tag-team system does add some depth to play, so if I look at this game like it's not "your Dad's Double Dragon", I'm able to enjoy it for what it is.
So yes, I like the game, and actually caught myself in a "flow" state after spending a few hours with the game, just kicking butt to the music.
The return of classic characters is cool too. The game is definitely worth a try, and imo much better than some are claiming it to be.
It's no Super Double Dragon though. Looking forward to the upcoming collection btw. Hopefully they do that collection justice.
I really liked Oniken. It kinda reminded me of Contra meets Fist of The North Star. Very cool and hilarious, gory cutscenes. I got my tail kicked at first, but put in some practice and was able to beat it quite easily, much like a Contra game.
Odallus was very, very good, and Blazing Chrome is good too. I haven't tried Vengeful Guardian Moonrider, but will eventually get to it.
This looks cool. I played most of these games growing up. Shatterhand and Powerblade were both really cool. There's a game that's sort of like this and super-cheesy and fun called "Oniken", though this game looks more refined and smoothed out. I'll keep this one on my radar.
I have seen instances of that, but Purah appears as a grown woman at least in her mid-twenties to me. I know what you're talking about, but Purah's not it.
Also, it's quite alright for people to crush a bit on game characters. Good, clean fun - I don't think it's necessary to conflate these things.
Oatchi for Smash, Kart, and every other nintendo game. Actually, if they want to just start swapping out main characters from future nintendo games, and putting in Oatchi in their steads, I am okay with this.
So glad ya'll reviewed this game. I'm not big on roguelike games, but I can see this working for Double Dragon. I already pre-ordered for PS5, so I'm waiting on my copy. I have always loved Double Dragon since the arcade and NES games, and have played and beaten most of them. I am looking forward to seeing how this one stacks up, and how many nods it has to the older games.
Also, the soundtrack has been awesome so far. I hope there are some nods to Double Dragon 2, but every track on that game is an absolute banger.
I might have to give this one a chance at some point. The dog is a real draw for me. The only other Pikmin game I tried was 3, and it kicked my ass all over the place. Either my pikmin would all get murdered, or I'd run out of time trying to make my way back. Maybe I wouldn't be as terrible as this one. Plus, that dog is adorable.
Hi there. I'm really enjoying this game and would like to hear your thoughts on it. Anyway, if none of you are playing it, I recommend it. It's a lot like Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero, with a high difficulty curve and extremely refined gameplay.
Going to try this after I complete Gravity Circuit. I don't like having more than one uber-tough game going on at a time (I'm getting old). Also, I completed Ufouria: The Saga years ago, which is another oddball gem from Sunsoft, so I have high expectations for this one.
Refuse to vote. My Grandma bought the first F-Zero for SNES on the Christmas of 1991 (or was it 92? I can't remember). I really enjoyed it, but felt like F-Zero X was everything it should've been. Both F-Zero and F-Zero X had phenomenal soundtracks, imo. GX is arguably the best of the series, but X is my favorite, with its over-the-top heavy-metal attitude.
I pre-ordered Double Dragon Gaiden. From the interviews I've read, it sounds like they've really been taking time with, and the soundtrack sounds awesome.
Right now I'm trying to "95 percent" Zelda: TOTK, and I will be playing the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster which I ordered from playasia. There are so many good games out, but I can barely keep up with ones from the past two years or so, so Double Dragon Gaiden. I really hope they don't screw it up.
Edit: Those pikmin creatures look super-cute, but the only Pikmin game I ever tried was Pikmin 3 on Wii U. I was really terrible, and basically hated it.
It's a great game. I played through switch version, and will probably keep it for life. I played through on PS5 several years later, and unlocked the trophies. It was a lot of fun.
You are probably right about the second part - they are definitely working on a new console, as they always start the next one years in advance, but this game looks like they put good effort into it and are willing to shake up the formula a bit.
I did not expect Nintendo's lineup to look this good. I thought they'd be fizzling out pretty hard after TOTK, but that's the "old" Nintendo I'm thinking about.
I agree with those who say it looks like an evolution of NSMB, but at this moment in my life, I'm in dire need of comfort food, and a familiar face with a facelift feels like something I could use right now.
Well, a lot of mobile games are 2D and take a ton of feathers from the Mario playback, so there will be similarities. The game looks like a lot of fun though, definitely a step up from NSMB games.
I just preordered a physical copy. I played the original about nineteen or twenty years ago. I really don't have time for more games, but I loved the story in this one. I love the full-size character animations up front. This direct was insane. I fully believed Nintendo were going to coast off of Zelda: TOTK and a few random titles.

Why would it not be? It's Super Mario RPG. Have you looked up the cost for an SNES copy lately?

Re: Review: Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons - Likeable, But Lacks Its Peers' Punch

F-Zero. No remasters or anything - a brand new one, or a sequel to GX.

Re: Talking Point: Is Super Mario Bros. Wonder Really A Departure From The 'New' Series?
@Clammy
You are probably right about the second part - they are definitely working on a new console, as they always start the next one years in advance, but this game looks like they put good effort into it and are willing to shake up the formula a bit.
Re: Nintendo Infographic Showcases The Games Featured In June's Direct
I did not expect Nintendo's lineup to look this good. I thought they'd be fizzling out pretty hard after TOTK, but that's the "old" Nintendo I'm thinking about.
Re: Talking Point: Is Super Mario Bros. Wonder Really A Departure From The 'New' Series?
I agree with those who say it looks like an evolution of NSMB, but at this moment in my life, I'm in dire need of comfort food, and a familiar face with a facelift feels like something I could use right now.
Re: Where To Pre-Order Super Mario Bros. Wonder On Switch
@GMACPLAYS
Well, a lot of mobile games are 2D and take a ton of feathers from the Mario playback, so there will be similarities. The game looks like a lot of fun though, definitely a step up from NSMB games.
Re: Star Ocean The Second Story R Is A Full-Blown Remake Of A Classic PS1 RPG
I just preordered a physical copy. I played the original about nineteen or twenty years ago. I really don't have time for more games, but I loved the story in this one. I love the full-size character animations up front. This direct was insane. I fully believed Nintendo were going to coast off of Zelda: TOTK and a few random titles.
Re: Super Mario RPG Is Getting A Remake This November, And It Looks Amazing
All of this awesomeness makes me think this is some big, late April Fool's Day joke.
