I've always loved the Splatoon characters and style, but never liked how hectic online was, so I might be willing to give this a try. It looks very pretty, like a kind of tropical sea adventure or something.
I just wait about four or five years to buy any fighting game now. Street Fighter V Champion Edition was on sale with all the DLC for like ten bucks on psn not too long ago, so I nabbed that. I did the same with Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition, with Robocop and all that.
Mortal Kombat on 11 was "the last straw" for me, because I had bought the game, and then all the DLC came out and then the price was marked down, and yeah....I was done.
I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with buying a key card game...if that works for you. I'm speaking for myself in saying that I'm not playing that game right now, figuratively and literally.
P.S. I'm looking forward to buying Street Fighter VI and Mortal Kombat 1 "ultimate editions" in three or four years. The games do look like a lot of fun.
I played the demo for Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo. It was really fun and felt really polished, like a lost SNES or GBA game that never saw the light of day. I might get it.
It's interesting that you see it that way. It felt like a major upgrade to me in almost every way, but enjoyability of Mario Kart games is very subjective.
Double Dash had amazing coop. We had the four controllers, and it was just real. We had to replace some of those controllers with all the rage going on.
Rhythm Heaven Groove should be my last switch game. The one on wii was so good, and I regret not buying a copy when I had time.
Anyway, I don't think development will last too long on switch 1 - I think it will last two years, tops. Despite claiming otherwise, Nintendo shut the 3ds down pretty hard after switch took off. But hey, I'm not a seer - I'm just going by what the trends have been for the past decade or so.
Awww man, this world needs some Viewtiful Joe. Those games were so good. I never played Red Hot Rumble, but I still have 1 and 2 on gamecube, and those games still hold up.
I think that "playing it safe" is a wise move. I really enjoyed the Wii and Wii U for the wild deviations they were, but it seems to be like they are learning from past trends....
Sorta unrelated complaint though: I wish this console had built-in streaming to youtube and twitch. It's so easy for me to stream and upload gameplay sessions on the PS5, with no capture card needed. I'd really like to see that feature on switch 2.
I'm still excited for this console, mostly because of the games, but also to see those games in 4K and/or with higher frame rates. It really does make a difference, and seeing Nintendo games really pop and "look new" again is going to be cool.
Gaming has started to take more of a back seat in my life for a few years. It was already starting to change, because I've been working on cars and gardening, and finding other things to do that "yield more fruit", or give a greater sense of accomplishment.
That said, I do still enjoy video games, and make room for about an hour a day, and maybe two or three hours on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a great way to unwind, but for me it's like sugar - better in small doses.
The increase in prices makes me feel like investing in games even less, maybe just getting the heavy-hitters like Mario Kart and Metroid. And there is a massive backlog of classics to fall back on. I bought Stellar Blade two months ago, and still haven't finished it, so I'm not in a rush to buy a ton of games, especially if they're going to get in the way of financial goals.
I can already see myself buying fewer games. I have a lot of hobbies that actually produce returns sometimes, and it's getting more difficult to argue with myself that video games are among the best of those hobbies.
In addition, I find myself already looking through my back-catalog of classic games - There are so many to replay, and so many lost gems I've yet to uncover, which cost a fraction of what modern games are set to cost....for instance, the Fire Emblem games on GBA that I could just play over and over again.
I don't see myself shunning new-gen games, but I do see myself buying less - perhaps only those that I really, really want to play badly.
They'd have to be very cheap for me to buy any. Nintendo doesn't leave their shops up for very long. Those key-cards will become useless much faster than a well-kept physical copy.
I hope this whole game-key thing crashes and burns. At least they are showing it on the case, which I think is somewhat respectable. I just worry about the consumers who don't read in before jumping in, but I suppose that's their decision.
Thank you. I will be avoiding all of these key card releases with the quickness. It's a shame, because I've been looking for a good excuse to dive into Ys X.
Edit: 11:41 a.m. central, pre-orders no longer taking, receiving error.
I am skipping out for now, personally. The console looks amazing, and I'm here for it. I'm just waiting a little while. I have too many things going on, and I need to finish milking the original switch and PS5 before moving on.
As an American (who voted against Mr. Tariff Guy), I'm willing to pay $450. All things considered, Switch 2 is a very appealing machine. I'm hoping that I can get it at a decent price, otherwise I will wait a year or two until it comes down. And no, I'm not broke, I'm frugal. I don't want to pay too much.
This game is going to sell like mad. It's nice to see Donkey Kong get a real push. For me, this should easily fill the gap while the next 3d Mario cooks.
A lot of nintendo fans downplay the importance and relevance of an achievements system. Truth be told, they add a lot to the game.
People tell themselves that achievements are irrelevant, at least partly, to convince themselves that their gaming experience wouldn't be any better with them....
but I find that they add a lot to the game - so much so, that I will purchase a multiplatform game on PSN before I buy it on switch. A small handful of games like Infernax, Panzer Paladin, Super Monkey Ball, and so on...to name a few. It's so much fun to unlock the the trophies, and also to look at my account and see the challenges I've completed - and failed. It adds a ton of replay value to most games, and guess what - they are optional, and no content is unlocked behind achievements or trophies. It's a standalone system.
It's a fantastic set of features, and it's an absolute shame that nintendo keeps dropping the ball. I know they like doing their own thing, and that's fine. It certainly won't deter me from playing first party nintendo exclusives, but you can bet your butt I will buy the game on a another console before I do on a nintendo one.
"I don't need that anyway" or "That's for boring people".
Yeah, okay.
But if you could have a giant trophy behind collecting all the Koroks in Zelda or beating Metroid in record time, or running through Super Mario Bros. in six minutes without losing a life, and having display next to your account, nintendo fans would be lining up for the challenge. Tell yourself whatever you want, but you're not convincing me otherwise.
@8bit-Man I've mostly been playing PS5 for the past two years. Graphically speaking, the Switch 2 games I have seen are easily on par with most PS5 games that I've played.
And on top of that, it has all those nice switch features. If there's anything I'm not on board with, it's the price of physical games, but they look fantastic.
70usd for physical would've been acceptable. Costs go up, and inflation affects things. 80 is extreme. The rest of the world is adjusting to tariffs and further rising costs. Orange man and his buddies in the white house can be thanked for this.
Also:
If I do buy switch 2, any games I buy will be physical. Seeing how quickly ninty killed off the 3ds and Wii U e-shop shows that physical is still the way to go for a money-conscious individual, even with a higher price.
That's what it is. Many companies are already raising prices to compensate. It will likely take some people months, even years, to realize how tariffs work.
These companies have to make a profit to survive, and countries who impose tariffs pass the cost to the consumer.
Switch 2 looks great, regardless of cost. I'm not sure if I will buy the console for a while though. I feel like I may play my ps5 for another two years, and maybe jump on the boat later. I have a huge backlog on that console. I will be buying the new Rhythm Heaven on Switch 1.
I have not been this excited for a switch game in a while. RH Fever on Wii was amazing, and I can't find a copy for cheap, so this will make up for that. It's about time the series received a home-console update.
Yet instead of tariffs being lowered, other countries are responding with retaliatory tariffs across the board. There has not been a single lowering of tariffs yet - only escalation.
It was the least we could do. Oh yeah, I've seen a few videos of that Pierre guy. I really hope ya'll don't end up with anything like we have right now. That would be depression on top of depression.
I can't take your comment seriously for multiple reasons, but saying Kamala has a "5 iq" when Trump can barely string together a sentence or use words with more than four syllables, is the biggest one.
And I'd rather deal with Kamala and her cackling than an orange , bottle-tan fascist.
Someone once asked Arnold Schwarzenegger if he'd be willing to play a classic composer. He replied "I'll be Bach".
Sorry. Not really.
The game looks awesome. I saw T2 in theatres when I was a kid. It blew my mind. I know Terminator series had an influence on run n' gun games like Contra, so this is very fitting.
It's fantastic. I will never sell my switch copy if I can handle it. I'm tempted to double-dip and play on PS5, but there are just so many new games coming out. It is tied with Metaphor ReFantazio as my favorite "modern" RPG.
Can we just have Yoshi's Burger Station be a real thing?
Imo, after playing a PS5 as my main console for two years now, I think the graphics are quite a step up from the original switch. Not quite ps5, but better than I expected. I think people who can't tell the difference need to go see Mario Kart 8 in motion, then come back. I will have to see in motion on my tv to have the final verdict there, but the difference is pretty apparent to me.
I still have the wii version. It's an excellent game, not enough incentive for another rebuy. If it came bundled with Tropical Freeze, I would bite. Maybe if/when it goes on sale.
Anyway, I'd love to see a DK: Jungle Beat remaster. I need to go find those bongos.
Hopefully it will. PS5 is an excellent console, and it deserves some time in the sun. Hopefully Switch 2 sells really well. And perhaps some people will pick up an Xbox as well. Competition makes a healthy market, which leads to more choices for the consumer.
(and hopefully people continue to buy the disc version, because imo that is super-important)
My top games were LoZ: Echoes of Wisdom, Dark Deity and Super Mario RPG.
I have spent most of my gaming time this year on PS5 and older consoles like Genesis and Sega CD. Though, I just picked up Victory Heat Rally, so that may change a little bit.
So I played this game last night. It is a lot of fun. The controls are snappy and responsive. The game is really, really fast. Not quite F-Zero levels of fast, but close.
And it is just dripping with style and 90's arcade cheese.
The game reeks of 90's in the best way, and I think it's specifically tailored to those who grew up playing 80's and 90's racers - not Mario Kart, but the games more focused on racing over combat.
I think the review is mostly fair, but with that said, I find the gameplay to be very enjoyable. It does get a little repetitive over time, but I think that can be said about even the most revered racing games out there. I've rarely played F-Zero or Wipeout for more than an hour at a time, whereas I can play a nice RPG for hours at a time. VHR also has a lot of different modes that keep it from being monotonous.
Personally, I give it an 8/10. It's the most racing fun I've had since Horizon Chase Turbo. Also, running into cars really fast to launch them into the distance - only to them explode into pieces, is infinitely satisfying.
I remember quite a few 2D games getting knocked for not "getting with the times" during the early 3D polygonal era.
Reviews are very subjective anyway, and a game is usually more than the sum of its parts. I've enjoyed quite a few games that aggregate in the 60's and 70's, often much more so than games rated in the 80's and 90's.
I am going to take a gamble on VHR. I've waited a long time for this one, and I played the demo several times on steam, and I loved it. So, I'm going to give it a try. After that, I will reread this review and see how much or little I agree with it.
I'm still playing through Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon on GBA. I also tried the 3ds remake of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. It plays really well, so I think I will keep playing that if it keeps my interest.
Pretty much what I thought of the game as well. I played the PS5 version, and beat the game with all trophies in under three hours. It was a very fun experience. The mech battles are really intense and gratifying, and the mechanics feel good everywhere.
A more fleshed out sequel would be amazing - If they introduced optional permanent upgrades, more levels, maybe like a level-select with different bosses displayed, and upgrades through those bosses, things like that. So hopefully there will be a sequel.
Divine Dynamo Flamefrit and Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon. Flamefrit has the best mech battles I've ever experienced. It's a bit like Punch-Out. It gets rather difficult in the second half.
I'm with you. So many people are a-ok with rights that others care about being stripped away, but when someone comes for their rights, it's a big deal.
Back in the 80's and 90's, there were countless rock and metal acts that had to go to D.C. and fight battles for their right to expression.
Censorship back then was also something that was embraced by hokey "squares" and puritanical people, and it's quite odd that so many younger people these days are embracing their same attitudes.
Also, the disdain for sexuality while embracing over-the-top violence is incredibly selective and hypocritical.
I eschewed buying Dragon Quest 3 HD because of the censorship. And no, I'm not some right-wing incel. Left-wing guy, married for over two decades, voted against Trump three times, so don't put us all in the same boat just because we disagree.
Also, there's nothing wrong with enjoying seeing a pair of animated boobs.
Edit:
I'd also like to add that a logical solution would be to release a separate version of the game for young eyes rather than just patch it out for all buyers. Part of the alure of these games is the sexuality. If they want to patch things out of the game, then the developers shouldn't be using skin as a selling point in the first place. There are simple technical solutions to keep things out the wrong hands without ruining it for everyone else. As to those who are 18 and up and have an aversion to jiggly woman parts, simply don't play that game or use that feature. "Things that don't directly affect me suddenly don't make sense".
I played an hour of Divine Dynamo Flamefrit last night. So far, it's good, simple fun. It feels like a bit like an oddball game from the late SNES or early Playstation era. And you really can't mess around too much because you will die. The mechanics are simple and fun, and I'm hoping to play straight through this weekend before I get back into Shining Force.
I'm not a big fan of these lists, but I have to agree with number 1. It's just that good. I will never sell my switch copy if I can handle it, and I'm tempted to play through on ps5 for my second run.

Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?
Gaming has started to take more of a back seat in my life for a few years. It was already starting to change, because I've been working on cars and gardening, and finding other things to do that "yield more fruit", or give a greater sense of accomplishment.
That said, I do still enjoy video games, and make room for about an hour a day, and maybe two or three hours on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a great way to unwind, but for me it's like sugar - better in small doses.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida On Higher Switch 2 Game Prices: "It Was Going To Happen Eventually"

In addition, I find myself already looking through my back-catalog of classic games - There are so many to replay, and so many lost gems I've yet to uncover, which cost a fraction of what modern games are set to cost....for instance, the Fire Emblem games on GBA that I could just play over and over again.

Re: Review: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind (Switch) - The Mightiest Morphin Ever
The lack of variety between character move-sets is the main reason I will wait for this one to go on sell. It certainly looks fun.
Re: Mini Review: Victory Heat Rally (Switch) - Great Looks, But Can't Quite Make The Podium
@AJB83
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (30th November)
I'm still playing through Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon on GBA. I also tried the 3ds remake of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. It plays really well, so I think I will keep playing that if it keeps my interest.

@FIS-PODCAST
I agree. I've put in about thirty hours with that game, just trying to unlock everything. I pick it up every month or so for another go.
Re: Review: Divine Dynamo Flamefrit (Switch) - Inti's Creation Burns Bright, But Only For A Night
It was a short but sweet ride.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (23rd November)
Divine Dynamo Flamefrit and Shining Force: Resurrection of Dark Dragon. Flamefrit has the best mech battles I've ever experienced. It's a bit like Punch-Out. It gets rather difficult in the second half.
Re: Random: Guilty Gear Strive's Latest Update Apparently Censors "Inappropriate Angles"
@Vyacheslav333
Re: Nintendo Download: 21st November (North America)
I played an hour of Divine Dynamo Flamefrit last night. So far, it's good, simple fun. It feels like a bit like an oddball game from the late SNES or early Playstation era. And you really can't mess around too much because you will die. The mechanics are simple and fun, and I'm hoping to play straight through this weekend before I get back into Shining Force.
Re: Best Dragon Quest Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems
I'm not a big fan of these lists, but I have to agree with number 1. It's just that good. I will never sell my switch copy if I can handle it, and I'm tempted to play through on ps5 for my second run.
