I think your criticism of inti creates is also one of their greatest strengths. Of course, they rip off the classics. The thing is, is they do in such a great way - they know what worked best in each classic series they take inspiration from, and make it work fantastically.
The Curse of the Moon games took everything I liked about the original NES Castlevania games, and refined it to near-perfection. Those games are razor-sharp, and fun to play over and over, delivering a refined version of classic experience.
It's really not a problem, because everyone wins. Because these new games are being made, people will always go back to playing the original Mega Man and Castlevania games. If anything, these folks are keeping it alive.
Since value is highly subjective to the individual, especially in terms of video games, I don't take offense to that.
When I speak of value, I mean in averaged or generalized terms. If someone else doesn't see these as worth their time, that's not a bad thing. Just personally, I'm really excited, despite the steep price tag.
Yes, Square-Enix is pretty lame for limiting this release, and also charging a bit much (imo 60 would be the sweet spot).
and at the same time....
The value is still there, and I still feel like I'd be doing myself a massive disservice by not ordering a copy anyway - and that's bearing in mind that I have all but FF3 on the gba.
As much as I'd rather have the switch version, I greatly look forward to unlocking the trophies on the ps5. The steam versions have a ton of achievements, so I'm hoping they will carry over to console.
Pricey, but still worth it. Preordered PS 4 version....on waiting list for switch version. I've akways wanted to run through the first six on a single platform. If I get a switch copy reserved I'll drop the ps4 pre-order because I feel like spending a few mornings in bed with these games is something special.
I think he'll be fine. If folks are willing to follow him, regardless of franchise, I don't think he'll have much to worry about.
Dude did a fantastic job as the Witcher, despite the writing going downhill. He's being picked up for Warhammer, and will likely have plenty of other opportunities.
Scott Pilgrim had great music and art style, but the combat felt a bit lacking. It's kinda like in those dreams when you try to punch a bad-guy really hard, but it does next to nothing. The "impact" wasn't there. I still enjoyed the game, although it wasn't the "ultimate beat-em-up" or anything like that.
Sure, but I think it's also more refined and calculated. It's a "chill" brawler, gives me time to think, with branching routes, choice of upgrades, and it can be challenging enough at times. I dig the pacing.
I like the other games too - It's just a different experience, and I play the different games depending on what mood I'm in.
Anyway, I ordered the 1 and 2 combo for PS5 off of play-asia. I'm going to platinum both games back to back. I'm hoping the performance issues won't be present on that version. Maybe the combo disc will be worth some money in the future too.
Nobody told you that you can't buy the game and enjoy it. I think that most people on here are speaking for themselves. There are plenty of "complete" editions of games on sale for like 20 bucks right now. Day 1 DLC is shameful practice, and I will pass. If you feel like buying it day one, then more power to you. Options are a wonderful thing. I'm also glad they're letting us know ahead of time, because I don't feel like wasting my money when I can spend that extra cash on a nice steak or sushi dinner.
@QuickSilver88 Honestly man, I don't know. Folks seem to give Nintendo a free pass with this stuff, but not so much the competition.
I was going to buy Engage day one, but will be crossing it off for now. Did the same thing with Xenoblade 3, and will do it for Breath of the Wild, if that's how they want to so it.
You are right with it becoming more prominent though. Development is becoming more expensive - it's arguably justified as well.
Still, I'd much rather shell out 80 to 100 bucks for the full experience, which isn't realistic. I'll wait. The fomo isn't going to phase me. It's hard to say "no". The game looks fun.
For me, it's a pass for now. (It kinda sucks seeing Nintendo act exactly like the other companies now. Can I blame them? No, but it sucks anyway.)
I just uploaded my switch save to GoG. I'm waiting for the update on my PS5, and I'm going to see if I can transfer my switch progress. I'm doubtful, but I will give a shot in a week or so....If it doesn't work, I will just have to finish the switch version, which I've regurgitated a hundred times is a good port.
Dragon Quest 1 was the first NES game that I ever owned by myself (Dragon Warrior, here in the States). I've gotten in and out of the series over the years, and loved 11S on switch. I also went back and played the first three, then six, seven, and eight.
The series is so good, and I love how it sticks to its roots so strongly. I'm really looking forward to this good.
Also, eight was so good, heck most of them are good. They could remake any of them and it would be good.
I ordered this as well. It will most likely be worth it for having both games, and if I get tired of it, I can likely sell it for its original value. Too bad it doesn't come with a soundtrack cd - Mega McDuffy killed it on the first game.
I'm so tempted to get River City Girls 1 and 2, but I already have the digital version of the first game, and I'm sure 2 will go on sale a year down the road.
I have Elden Ring on PS5, and also Nier: Automata on Switch, so I'm busy with those....
my next new "big" game will be Fire Emblem: Engage.
Counter-argument: Some of the Fire Emblem stories - Radiant duology, especially - are pretty great. Those games touched up on topics like racism, classism, phobias, political corruption, and all that stuff without sounding preachy.....
but yeah, lately the stories have seemed pretty phoned in. The gameplay and characters are what keep me coming back for the most part.
It really does look fun. I will be watching this one to see if it turns out alright. I'm playing Elden Ring right now - open-world games have been growing on me, and I'm willing to give this one a try if it is actually good.
Super Mario Bros. 2 is my favorite Mario game of all time, so much that I'm excited for this and will probably purchase, regardless of its slightly-generic appearance.
(and yes I know the history of the game very well - I got the game when I was six or seven years old, and the cartridge said "Super Mario Bros. 2", so that's real enough for me)
I'll pretty much take whatever at this point, even some new variation. 12, or an X game, or whatever. I hope they reveal something, besides merch or a collection. One would think they would put their IP to use.
A few sites like pushsquare stated that crossplay will be supported for all platforms. I hope so, because I'd like to be able to transfer between switch, pc and ps5. Wishful thinking, but that's what the writing said - not sure if it can be taken for face value, but I'm hoping. I would like to jump into this game again either way.
Just got my new PS5, and I'm kinda hooked on it. Though, this is a very good port - I'm tempted to go back and finish the game once this dlc comes out. This is easily one of the best-looking switch games, and it's fun just to roam around and do random quests for hours on end.
I was waiting for Evil Dead: The Game to come out on switch. After it was delayed, and waiting a few months, I went ahead and bought a PS5 and bought the game on sale as well.
Super Mario Maker hit me harder than any other Wii U game. I was absolutely blown away with the interface and intuitive nature of the game. Breath of the Wild was also very good. I think Super Mario Maker deserves a higher spot, but it's not everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine.
This is the first nintendo game I've been genuinely excited for since Metroid Dread. I think this one is going to surpass Three Houses overall. I would like to see a romance mechanic return, but this good/evil talk sounds like it has potential as well. I like the characters, and look forward to playing female and male versions of Alear, even if their design is still taking time to grow on me.
I'm really interested in this series, but I think I'm going to wait another five years or so, and just get the whole ultimate-edition trilogy thing (yes, I'm just blindly assuming all that). Looks fun though.
This is the perviest game I have ever played. It's also very good though. Bought a physical copy a year or so ago, played it out. I was thinking of selling it with some other games I've completed - and changed my mind. Most games that put sex front and center often end up being mediocre or just plain bad, but this is a solid game. If you like sex, it's icing on the cake.
Twilight Princess had some great ones, but I freaking hate City in the Sky. So slow and plodding. Maybe it's because I'm a completionist and have to get all of the chests. Link Between Worlds and Minish Cap also have great dungeons. I'd like to go back and play those some time.
Anyway, I just bought a PS5, and earning trophies is just so much more fun....I can't see myself getting another game on switch, when I can earn trophies in the same game on PS5.
Earning "coins" is a good start, but nintendo really needs to get with the program. Miiverse was awesome, and I'd stick around for something like that.
I wouldn't be surprised, along with some development interview later how they mention how "the switch hardware wasn't strong enough to match our vision" and/or "how the new chipset architecture allowed to test nintendo's new console while pushing MP4 to the stratosphere" or something like that.
But then again, I live on an alien cloud in my head. And still, nintendo's various little arms and legs start development on the next console as soon as the previous one is released. They're definitely working on games for their next system, regardless if retro or MP4 are involved.
I think it's great that they are buying western studios, and it makes total sense. I like Sony's products, and think they kick ass.
But opinions don't change facts. Sony's American divisions - their European ones, their Chinese ones, are just arms of Sony Conglomerate of Japan, and that's literal fact.
If it's raining outside, and you think that rain the rain is blue or purple, it's still raining outside.
Again, you are entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts.
It's still Japanese owned, and it's still headquartered in Japan. It' still a Japanese company. There are more KFC's in China than in the U.S., but it's still an American company.
And game development is only a small part of Sony's business, which also operates around the world, not just the U.S..
I know it's hard to believe, but the U.S. is not the center of the universe.
The vast majority of Sony employees are not American. They just outsource their game development to the U.S..
The company is founded and owned by Japanese. Sony Corporation of America is an arm of SONY conglomerate. They could shut down any American branch in a few days, if they wanted to.
Same thing with SEGA of America. Same situation with Nintendo of America. These companies have arms in other places too.
Sony is headquartered in Sony City, Tokyo. A brief study in corporate hierarchy would do you well.
You're probably 100 right, but maybe a "traditional" Phantasy Star game that takes place in another system, and is loosely connected in some way, could rekindle the series without messing with the original story.
A Phantasy Star or a Shining Force, or both.....in the traditional vein, of course. But I don't think that will ever happen, at least not within my lifetime.
Then again, I'd be happy with some remasters, a sequel, anything from those two series in proper form.
Edit: I'd just like to add that I'm well aware that SEGA's rpgs are only obsessed over by a smaller but rabid following. It's probably going to be from a more well known franchise, if not a new IP.
Thanatos' palace in Secret of Mana. The off-putting music and setting, the types of enemies, the way everyone was wearing masks and brainwashed into a cult.
The Moon in Majora's Mask was pretty creepy.
Friday the 13th on NES, and those children's faces in the cabin. I could think of more, but I'm at work right now.
There is nothing wrong with a well-proportioned woman, be her many of the real ones hanging out downtown, or the fictional ones hanging out in an anime or video game.
If a dude wants to rock his abs or wear a thong, that's just as fine too. I don't even think Balthus wore a full shirt in Three Houses.
People like boobs and butts and random body parts because we are human. You can still be attracted to someone and still see and treat them as more than an object.
Like it or not, physical attractiveness is an evolutionary trait used to get ahead. Some people are smart, some are just really driven and have high-energy, some are really athletic, or beautiful, and some just hit every high-mark in the genetic lottery.
Do what you have to be more competitive in life, know your own strengths and weaknesses, and don't let you insecurities grow so strong that you feel put off by a fictional video game character with generous proportions.
She looks pretty great. I gotta say those abs make me jealous, but I'm 40 years old and like to eat sweets, so I don't see mine coming back any time soon. Also, does this mean that Bimmy and Jimmy will be somewhere in the game?
The people who make these games do not owe any of us anything. I also think that the game was reasonably priced, especially considering the quality and replay factor. I understand that there are some people who jack up things like rent, internet access, etc.., but this is a video game, and you do not need this type of thing to live.
This game is starting to give me Tokyo Mirage Sessions/FE vibes. Hopefully it won't be too gimmicky. I'm loving the colors. Can't wait to see the other returning / avatar characters.
I only had time to play for half an hour after opening the box last night. I already feel confident that I've gotten my moneys worth. It doesn't just feel like a good game, it has that extra something that I just know I'm going to love it.

They are worth far more than that. A copy of FF3(6) alone will break the bank. Let's be honest, shall we?

Completely different versions. I do hear they are brighter, though. There are also additional features like remixed music and qol stuff.

Holy crap yes. I had forgotten about the Suikoden remaster. I'm so down.

FF Pixel Remaster (console) and a new Mana game (not mobile), though neither of those are confirmed to exist yet.
Moonrider looks cool. Not a lot of Nintendo exclusives that are blowing me away to be honest. I'm cautiously optimistic for FE: Engage.

Re: Talking Point: Which Scary Video Game Moments Gave You Nightmares As A Kid?
Thanatos' palace in Secret of Mana. The off-putting music and setting, the types of enemies, the way everyone was wearing masks and brainwashed into a cult.
The Moon in Majora's Mask was pretty creepy.
Friday the 13th on NES, and those children's faces in the cabin. I could think of more, but I'm at work right now.
Re: Nintendo Introduces Chloe In Fire Emblem Engage
Re: River City Girls 2 Gives Marian From 'Double Dragon' A Big Buff In New Trailer
She looks pretty great. I gotta say those abs make me jealous, but I'm 40 years old and like to eat sweets, so I don't see mine coming back any time soon. Also, does this mean that Bimmy and Jimmy will be somewhere in the game?
Re: TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Has Netted A Bodacious $22 Million In Revenue
@dew12333
The people who make these games do not owe any of us anything. I also think that the game was reasonably priced, especially considering the quality and replay factor. I understand that there are some people who jack up things like rent, internet access, etc.., but this is a video game, and you do not need this type of thing to live.
Re: Nintendo Introduces Celica In Fire Emblem Engage
This game is starting to give me Tokyo Mirage Sessions/FE vibes. Hopefully it won't be too gimmicky. I'm loving the colors. Can't wait to see the other returning / avatar characters.
Re: Review: NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition - A Modern Classic Shines On Switch
@SteamEngenius
I only had time to play for half an hour after opening the box last night. I already feel confident that I've gotten my moneys worth. It doesn't just feel like a good game, it has that extra something that I just know I'm going to love it.
