I don't know why, but I think Hilda from Three Houses is quite the catch. I really don't like women like her in real life. It's just something about her.
Also, Zephia in Engage. Something about those bad girls.
It's absolutely not. We shouldn't let obesity become the standard. Spend more time walking and doing physical activities, learn portion control. Sure, some people are naturally fat and big (I'm well over 200 lbs myself), but society should stop encouraging complete and utter disregard for physical health in the name of "acceptance". Also, I'm an American, and it's sad seeing so many unhealthy people. I never make fun of fat people, but I'm "fat phobic". If we're going to have this discussion, can we at least have a little grey area?
Because I can have a problem with disregard for health, and also NOT hate someone for being fat. In fact, I don't hate anyone for being fat, but I don't like how so many assume one is "fat-phobic" for factoring in a bit of discipline and self-control into the equation of a nationwide (and world-wide) health issue.
And yes, I'm aware that some people are genetically inclined to be large - I have a cousin who is big, no matter how hard he diets. He wouldn't look right if he was thin.
I still think that taking care of oneself and having some personal responsibility is a good thing, and not at automatically "fat-phobic", in nearly every conceivable situation, like some people are claiming.
Some people are naturally large, sure. And no, not everyone should be thin. Personally, I am "overweight", 5' 10", 212 lbs....but I hit the gym at least five days a week, and it's mostly muscle.
If I didn't work out, I know that I would be fat. I was when I finished college, and got up to 235, but I decided that I wasn't feeling that. And being fat isn't so much an image problem, as it is just being plain unhealthy. No, folks shouldn't be expected to look like Superman or Wonder Woman, but all too often there are people making excuses and just being plain lazy.
That's not toxic, or narcissistic. That's truth. Obese people are more likely to die, and the only way to truly manage something like that it to be more proactive about managing one's health. It's one thing to be okay and positive about your body - nobody should be pressured to be perfect, but if you can't walk a flight of stairs without being out of breath, that's a problem. That's reality.
Frog, Tanooki, Penguin, Cat, and maybe a few new ones that will oddly enough make their way into the next Mario game (Yes I want that to happen and I don't have any idea why).
Why would you leave out cat? I hope they don't make such a mistake.
An HD remaster for all major platforms would be the best way to go. I had the original game on wii - my friend lost it, and I just never got back in to it, though he offered to replace it.
I have played a lot of the other Vanillaware games - 13 Sentinels, Dragon's Crown Pro, Odin's Sphere - They are all very good, but I have the fondest memories playing through Muramasa. I would get into a "flow state" with that game and just slice away for hours.
Let's hope they work it out and get this game to as many places as possible. It would be naturally be a good fit on switch, but I would like to see it in 4k too.
I still think that the first two Shining Force games go toe to toe with Fire Emblem. I've replayed them so many times. I was considering trying the fan translation of Shining Force 3, now that's not too hard to get working. I was actually looking forward to the mobile game that they cancelled last year.
There are some minor elements. Sarah later reveals her crush on Bowie and jealousy of the princess on Shining Force 2's ending. It's pretty sad. There's some minor flirting about, but no serious romance beyond that.
My copy is arriving this afternoon. I haven't played it yet, so I won't vote. I am excited for it. There's just so many games out right now. I like that the reception has been positive, and how it's purported to be more straight-forward and combat-based.
You know, I can't get around Alear's design, but the negativity is a bit silly at this point. I think it's just because it looks like such a radical departure after Three Houses.....but people seem to forget that Fates deviated from "the norm" as well.
I really like most of the character designs, and I love how colorful everything is. I think shunning the game just because the art style is a bit juvenile though. Wind Waker is a great Zelda game, and people hated it for being different too.
Gotcha. Oddly enough, I managed to get good at Blazing Chrome, though I never finished Hard Corp honest, and it's a shame. I feel like an incomplete Contra enthusiast.
Maybe keep most of the current system, but add some quests involving items that can make some weapons unbreakable. Maybe there's only a handful of those items available each playthrough, or make it where it takes a lot of hard work to make the weapon unbreakable. Most weapons could still break, but the player could still have a nice variety of weapons if things got really rough.
Tales of Arise and Friday 13th, both on PS5....I am trying to wrap up Arise and make room for Fire Emblem: Engage. I don't like being involved in two big RPG's at once.
In addition to greater power for running more demanding games, I think they would benefit from having a real achievement system. Mushrooms for "bronze", fire-flower for "silver", star for "gold" something like that. They sort of have something going on with playing their titles, but nothing tied to actually accomplishing a difficult task in game.....some universal leaderboards, something.
It would really help with replay value. Also, uh...mii-verse would be cool.
Just be more powerful and have cool features. Switch mostly got it right. I don't think a radical diversion is necessary, but we'll see what happens in due time.
I just bought Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown Pro on my PS5 for around 20 dollars on sale a couple of months ago. It wouldn't hurt for them to port them to switch though. A Muramasa update would be nice too.
Edit: This one doesn't look anywhere near as smooth or crisp as a vanillaware game.
I said "No" initially, because of the day-one dlc announcement. But being the working-class, capitalist w**** I am, I smashed the pre-order button so hard that it was out of service for several days.
I have to wrap up Tales of Arise before this comes in....I'm looking forward to it. First Nintendo game I've been excited about since Kirby and The Forgotten Land.
Also, I love the weapon triangle, and I will never, ever play casual mode.
Tales of Arise, Axiom Verge 2, Guilty Gear Strive. I would also like to try and play Friday the 13th some more, but the game is over-run with bugs and it's been falling apart for a while now.
It does a bit, but I made a mistake thinking he was saying that Blazing Chrome didn't look or play like Contra. There are some similarities graphically, of course. As for Moonrider, a lot of the gameplay reminds me of Shinobi 3 on Genesis. But then again, I often associate lots of explosions with Konami in the 16-bit era, and of course, Contra, so I'm not surprised at the comparisons. Almost of their games had a ton of explosions and fire everywhere back then.
Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn should be included together. But yeah, that's the best FE story in my book. It was way ahead of its time, going into politics and race and all kinds of difficult stuff while still being a great fantasy with lots of romance and humor. I still dig it. Maybe those games could get a remaster in a single volume....that will probably never again though.
Edit: I'm an idiot. I thought Yandman was referring to Blazing Chrome.
It's very similar to Contra. It also takes inspiration from other series like Gunstar Heroes and Metal Slug, but those games are also, very similar to Contra with a little creative divergence. The run-n-gun gameplay, one-hit deaths, similar weapon-styles, over-the-top presentation and gameplay, giant bosses, reliance on enemy patterns and memorization - How could you say it's not like Contra, when the DNA is right up front to see?
I really enjoyed Blazing Chrome, and while Oniken is arguably their weakest game, I still enjoyed it. Odallus was surprisingly deep and polished. It took a lot for me to wipe out the final boss.
Me neither. I'm five hours in to Tales of Arise (which is freaking awesome), waiting for Fire Emblem: Engage and Dragon Quest 3 Remaster. I might guess this after it goes on sale. But then again I don't know if I even have the time when there are more enticing options everywhere.
Yeah, Fire Emblem has always been anime-inspired. It's just that the style of anime has changed over time.
Also, FE has always had waifus....and husbandos.
And, some of us are getting old, and pop culture will not always cater to our desires and tastes. I would also love if rock n roll and melodic pop were mainstream in music, but they're not. Ages come and go. Gotta suck it up and be grateful that someone once gave a cts[ enough to market directly to us....that's just my take though.
Everything I have read from people who've actually played the game has been positive.
I do have my complaints with the game, and I strongly dislike how day one DLC is handled now, but the game itself seems to be pretty good.
My biggest fear is that they make a mediocre world and story, and I hope that I'm wrong about that. I like to be wrong about things quite often, because I often think bad things.
I'll find out for sure when the game arrives (Yes, I gave in already).
Cowabunga Collection rocks, especially with the recent update. I'm still holding out on a comprehensive / complete Turrican collection, though I really enjoy the series.
I enjoyed Sonic Origins, and also Sega Genesis Classics, but both of those games pale in comparison to Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. It had all of the games from the newer collections had, plus a ton of secret stuff, unlockable master system and arcade games. People really took it for granted back then.
I'm playing through Tales of Arise on PS5 right now. It's ridiculously good. not just as a game in general, but with the amount of polish - down to just viewing cutscenes at one's own pace. You kinda just have to play it for a while to understand. It's rewarding, but with most of the stress stripped right out.
I'm just not sure if the switch can handle it with a decent frame rate. They would definitely have to scale down a bit. It would still be worth it.
Color Splash wasn't bad - it just needed more time in the oven.
It would've been amazing if a few issues were worked out. I so wish Nintendo would release a remastered version with the kinks worked out and some more meaningful upgrades/progression. It certainly had lots of cool ideas and elements going on.
(For example, cooking that steak properly took me hours to figure out, and that kind of stuff was ridiculous. Barely having a hint what to do was more frustrating than immersive. I know that I'm not alone, because there are videos for it.)
Depends on the franchise, and how dedicated or big a fan the player is. I think someone would really have to like Zelda in order to go back and play the first two. I love those games, but I can see them being a headache to a modern gamer who is used to convenience, lots of save points, and so on...
Then again, games like Elden Ring have that old-school difficulty, and it seems to be coming back in style again.
But yeah, a franchise like Sonic The Hedgehog....the Genesis games would be great starting point. Those were great for jumping in right away.
I've played through the steam demo of Gravity Circuit, and it's very promising. The gameplay is super-sharp, controls are tight, and the music is bangin'. It plays like a cross between SNES-era Mega Man X and Shatterhand on NES, what with its satisfying close-range combat mechanics. The overall quality feels a cut above most indie action games out there. They would really have to drop the ball on the release for it to not be good.
I think your criticism of inti creates is also one of their greatest strengths. Of course, they rip off the classics. The thing is, is they do in such a great way - they know what worked best in each classic series they take inspiration from, and make it work fantastically.
The Curse of the Moon games took everything I liked about the original NES Castlevania games, and refined it to near-perfection. Those games are razor-sharp, and fun to play over and over, delivering a refined version of classic experience.
It's really not a problem, because everyone wins. Because these new games are being made, people will always go back to playing the original Mega Man and Castlevania games. If anything, these folks are keeping it alive.
Since value is highly subjective to the individual, especially in terms of video games, I don't take offense to that.
When I speak of value, I mean in averaged or generalized terms. If someone else doesn't see these as worth their time, that's not a bad thing. Just personally, I'm really excited, despite the steep price tag.
Yes, Square-Enix is pretty lame for limiting this release, and also charging a bit much (imo 60 would be the sweet spot).
and at the same time....
The value is still there, and I still feel like I'd be doing myself a massive disservice by not ordering a copy anyway - and that's bearing in mind that I have all but FF3 on the gba.
As much as I'd rather have the switch version, I greatly look forward to unlocking the trophies on the ps5. The steam versions have a ton of achievements, so I'm hoping they will carry over to console.
Pricey, but still worth it. Preordered PS 4 version....on waiting list for switch version. I've akways wanted to run through the first six on a single platform. If I get a switch copy reserved I'll drop the ps4 pre-order because I feel like spending a few mornings in bed with these games is something special.
I think he'll be fine. If folks are willing to follow him, regardless of franchise, I don't think he'll have much to worry about.
Dude did a fantastic job as the Witcher, despite the writing going downhill. He's being picked up for Warhammer, and will likely have plenty of other opportunities.

Mission Mode in F-Zero GX is also insane.

As much as I'd rather have the switch version, I greatly look forward to unlocking the trophies on the ps5. The steam versions have a ton of achievements, so I'm hoping they will carry over to console.

@Darknyht
They are worth far more than that. A copy of FF3(6) alone will break the bank. Let's be honest, shall we?
Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection Launches On Switch Spring 2023
@Serpenterror
Completely different versions. I do hear they are brighter, though. There are also additional features like remixed music and qol stuff.
Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection Launches On Switch Spring 2023
Pricey, but still worth it. Preordered PS 4 version....on waiting list for switch version. I've akways wanted to run through the first six on a single platform. If I get a switch copy reserved I'll drop the ps4 pre-order because I feel like spending a few mornings in bed with these games is something special.
Re: Ys X: Nordics Announced For Nintendo Switch, Launching In 2023
Freakin' awesome. I can't wait. I loved Ys VIII. YIX was just okay. This one looks fantastic. Graphics finally get an overhaul too.
Re: Henry Cavill Won't Return To The Witcher Even Though He's No Longer Superman
@theModestMouse
I think he'll be fine. If folks are willing to follow him, regardless of franchise, I don't think he'll have much to worry about.
Dude did a fantastic job as the Witcher, despite the writing going downhill. He's being picked up for Warhammer, and will likely have plenty of other opportunities.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Most Anticipated Games For 2023 (That Aren't Zelda)
@Slowdive
Holy crap yes. I had forgotten about the Suikoden remaster. I'm so down.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Most Anticipated Games For 2023 (That Aren't Zelda)
FF Pixel Remaster (console) and a new Mana game (not mobile), though neither of those are confirmed to exist yet.
Moonrider looks cool. Not a lot of Nintendo exclusives that are blowing me away to be honest. I'm cautiously optimistic for FE: Engage.
