Double Dragon definitely felt darker back in the day, and a lot of people wrote off Double Dragon Neon with its flashiness and self-deprecating humor. It was still a very good game. I would've loved to see a darker Double Dragon, maybe in line with Streets of Rage 4, maybe even realistic style graphics, but I still think this new one looks like a lot of fun, and I'm going to try and approach it with an open mind. Then again, it could suck. I really have no idea. I'm cautiously optimistic.
Call up Christian Whitehead and whoever else, maybe some of those folks who worked on Freedom Planet. Those on Sonic Team who still feel inspired. Make it happen. I will buy it if it's good.
I know I've already posted in here a couple of times, but even though I'm not thrilled by the graphic style, the gameplay looks super-fun. They even brought back the hyper-knee from DD2, and I think they're going to nail it.
I did too, and would've preferred a DD game with SoR4 art style. I still like the look of this game though. I will take anything I can get at this point.
The writer of the article makes a pretty strong argument:
"Video games are different. The evolution of technology, inputs, and displays — not to mention tools that make implementing and testing ideas a much faster process — mean that an old game can be altered for the better (hopefully) relatively quickly and easily while keeping the base experience more or less untouched and intact. Visual overhauls can be accompanied by minor, optional tweaks to the original experience (expanded control options, widescreen support, save states, rewind, display options) which can massively enhance older titles and make them accessible to a whole new audience."
Aside from that, it would be cool and rad to see a modern take just for ****s and giggles, and later-generation Zelda fans could get a taste. It could help bridge the "generation gap" in the LoZ fandom, and we could potentially all share our experiences with the original Legend of Zelda.
This is the first Zelda game in a long time that I haven't been excited about, but not just because of the frame rate. It's just that it doesn't look or seem like a truly new experience.
I think they did about as good as they could making this game look good on switch - and I think they did. But yeah, after playing stuff like Stray and Elden Ring on the PS5, everything but the indie games on Switch looks like a letdown.
That said, I have ordered the game and hope to be proven wrong about my preconceptions with new gameplay concepts, sheer fun, and whatever the game throws at me.
Don't understand the hate for this guy. He screwed up hard with Mighty Number 9, but the good he's done still outweighs the bad. I mean, Metallica made St. Anger too, but they also made Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets. Sheesh.
This is a total bummer. I enjoyed the hell of Horizon Chase Turbo, and would love to see them continue doing their own thing. Maybe this is what they wanted, but I doubt it. Ugh. And I don't even hate Fortnite. I played a few seasons and enjoyed it. Still, no thanks.
Imo, Final Fantasy IV still has one of the best video game stories ever told. Those characters felt like real people when I played through that game as a child, and I felt their feelings. I think "decent" is a bit of an understatement. Then again, I was young and maybe more impressionable. I still think it holds as up as one of the best in the RPG gaming pantheon.
Tears of The Kingdom Ganondorf wins just because he's able to wear a man-bun without looking like a complete tool. That alone takes considerable amounts of talent.
Same. It's going to be so nice having all six of those games sitting on my bed-stand, waiting at the ready for how many years it takes me to complete them all.
I'm tempted to give this one a try. There are just so many games out right now. The graphics style kinda reminds me of Super Mario RPG, and looks like it has a good sense of humor too.
Yep. And what I like about that, I find old classic games that are released for psn are usually easy trophies for me, because I can usually plow right through them with past knowledge, and have a good time.
Will wait patiently for my playasia physical order, though I'm tempted to get a digital on ps4/5 just for the fun of earning trophies while playing through.
I actually have this game on PS3. It's actually pretty fun to play in short bursts, though I think one of the most disliked KoF games. I hear 14 and 15 are way better.
That's cool. I chose Rosado. I was partial to Goldmary or Yunaka. But I figured Rosado would make it more interesting. It don't think it really made much of a difference though.
Mega Man 12, Mortal Kombat VS Capcom, F-Zero GX Remaster....
Oh, really?
Um. Just wrapped up the Messenger on ps5 after loving it on Switch, got the platinum trophy. Maybe some Onion Assault on switch if I find time. Still have to wrap up Tales of Arise at some point though, and then make room for the new Zelda game.
They brought woodstock and lollopalooza back, even though some of those were disasters. We'll see it rear its head at least a couple of more times. I wouldn't call it "dead" as much as I would call it "retired" and maybe playing a few reunion shows, probably in an embarrassing fashion.
I wish the company would be visited by three ghosts or whatever it takes to just do a standard world-wide physical release the Pixel Remaster, Suikoden 1 and 2 Remaster, and every other game that's coming out.
If they needed to charge more for the cartridge or disc version, then fine - I'm willing to pay and understand that things cost more now, but just make it available without being a headache. It shouldn't be too much to ask. Maybe more will come to light in April when (if?) Nintendo and Sony make their "big" announcements.
If it makes ya'll feel any better, I had a ps4 copy on preorder from square enix. I cancelled it and ordered on playasia because the shipping was cheaper. Then I found out the ps4 version was cancelled.
I did manage to preorder a switch version from them, but yeah....That ps4 physical is probably going to be uber-rare. I will laugh if they finally end up just releasing a wide-spread physical version like they should've from the start. Squeenix certainly are acting weird these past few years.
The teens at my library program wanted an FNAF game really bad, and I made the mistake of ordering this for the PS4. I should've ordered the FNAF core collection. Everyone just got tired of this game really quickly. I played it for a couple of hours, and really couldn't get into it. They had a decent concept, and dropped the ball hard. I regret my unchecked, hasty decision to acquire more games for my program without doing more research. At least we got Elden Ring and some basketball game to keep them happy.
I'd reasonably excited, but don't think I will be blown away. I enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy 2, and that was arguably better than its predecessor, but it didn't blow me away like the first one.
Well, The Quarry averages in the low 70's on there, and I've enjoyed that game more than anything I've touched in the past few years, in terms of "modern 3d games". Review scores aren't everything....but, good for those who got it, I guess.
I'm never going to finish this game. My wife is sick of it. I'm still on chapter 24, grinding for SP, and trying to get the good skills on all characters.
I bought that game back in my 20's. It was freakin' awesome. I still have it, but my brother lost the bongos. I'm still tempted to buy some bongos and bring it back. It's a good game on its own, but I think it would need the bongos to be truly great. I could be wrong though.
I bought the copy with River City Girls 1 and 2 on Playasia, but for ps5, because of the performance issues I heard about, and because I'm addicted to getting trophies. It's good that they're patching the game though. I really enjoyed the first one on switch.
I would really like to see playable Bimmy and Jimmy in the future, but I think I'm being too optimistic. I'm willing to pay for that though.
As mediocre as the story is compared to some of the other FE games, I daresay that I am near the end of the game, and some of the sadder things that happen really gave me the feels.
I caved in and bought the DLC. I also daresay that this is an 85 dollar game. I don't regret buying the DLC, but the game feels incomplete without it.
To be fair, I played it, and it is downright scary as hell. I have never been so frightened in a game....maybe because I grew up in the deep south and it hit a little too close to home with its bayou-backwood horror.
I wouldn't be surprised. They had a similar approach with Wii and Wii U. Then again, this is post-Iwata Nintendo. They've done a lot of things that are atypical to their habits in the past. I wouldn't completely blame them either. Switch won't keep the momentum up for more than two years. People just lose interest and want something new.
The canonically accurate Super Mario Bros. movie from the 90's shows that the fungus can communicate telepathically, and are therefore sentient living things. Also, the toad race are fungus-based, so whether or not the mushrooms are "meaty", it is definitely murderous, and unethical.
FACTS.
Also, I ate some mushrooms last night (not the psychedelic kind, just some ones from the supermarket). Dipped them in some ghost-chili hot sauce. It was fantastic. Though my stomach isn't doing too well today.
Nobody buys a game off the premise that the performance is bad. Having an easy or flexible difficulty curve, is not a fault of a game - that's a matter of personal preference. Poor performance and optimization are fundamental game flaws that nobody asks for. It's a bit perplexing that you don't see the difference between these.
Nintendo just needs to make another legit Wind-Waker game or a remaster of the ds sequel. None of the games inspired by Wind Waker have even come close to meeting the mark. Feel free to enlighten me if there are, I am open to that.
I could try and say the same about Earthbound-inspired games, but a few of those are actually good.
If you fight down on the ground and go for 100 percent completion, it can actually be a bit challenging. If you play cheap, and spend most of the time floating around above and skipping everything, then yeah, it can be insanely easy.
Judging poor performance is relevant. Judging a game known for having an easy difficulty curve is like judging a blonde girl for being blonde or ice cream for being fattening....It's kinda why people buy it in the first place...
These are very different things to judge something by. Also, if the Kirby game ran as poorly as the new Pokemon game, then it would be fair game to judge it off of that premise.
Not surprised with IGN's score. They panned Double Dragon Neon and a bunch of other good games based off of personal preference. They're extremely unprofessional.
Usually something like Stink or Ratfink, or something that rhymes with Link. Or some kind of expletive, like ****head. Not that I have anything against Link, I'm just immature when it comes to naming any character.
