Those are my two favorite FE games. The story in those is so relevant to what the world is going through today. Also, each stage was so meticulously crafted to only be beatable - without permadeath - by using one's thinking cap and planning carefully.
I'm playing through them right now. The more recent games are very good, but have spoiled me for the difficult. PoR and RD are incredibly unforgiving, yet rewarding, in comparison.
Of course, I'm just speaking for my personal experience here.
Cobra Kai is a great series. I also think the current movie mix could use more over-the-top meat-head macho characters. I grew up in the days of Rambo and Terminator and all that....I think the Cobra Kai creators are good at capturing the essence of the 80's and the philosophies of karate - I think they could apply the same kind of skill to even something a little silly and over-the-top like Duke Nukem.
For anyone fearing it would be too PC, uh like....have you even watched Johnny in Cobra Kai?
The kind of games that I deliberately skipped in the video store in the 80's and 90's, when all of the good games were checked out, so I ended up spending my allowance money on red licorice and ranch flavored corn-nuts and went back to speed-running the games I already had.
Edit:
Holy crap, there were a lot of generic caveman-ooga-booga games back then.
Going to wait a little while in case they release the whole game + DLC on a single cart.....which happened with Streets of Rage 4 and Mr. X.. The game itself looks great though - I'm just going to wait this one out.
I played through Ys VIII and IX on Switch - both very good games...I later went through and purchased the other available Ys games on steam. They are fun little games with good music and quick gameplay.
I haven't tried the Trails series yet, but I'm tempted to once I finish all of the Ys games.
Cool. I hope they outsource development to lots of talented and inspired companies itching to do something with their IP. An actually-good Contra would be amazing. Maybe they can hand that one to Wayforward or another strong developer. TMNT Cowabunga Collection is a great start for them. Hopefully people will support it, and the suits in Konami will see it as a positive sign.
Men in this game also have swim suits, bare nipples and all. They also have incredibly unrealistic proportions. I actually went and played through the game and all of its DLC. It would help to at least familiarize yourself with all of the content before jumping to conclusions.
Also, you're the one making assumptions about other peoples' race, beliefs, and political standings, so I don't think you're in the position to assume that I nor anyone else on this board is ignorant.
@icomma As a classic liberal, I am firmly in support of more in-game cleavage and general sexuality. Sex is part of life. It shouldn't be at the fore-front of everything, but it isn't the devil either.
Also, icomma, this is a Japanese video game we're talking about, and how are you framing this to be all about white men, especially when quite a few male characters were sexualized in this series?
Don't get me wrong, there are strong issues with race and gender and all that going on in the world, but how are you conflating having some sexuality in a video game with white male privilege? That's quite a stretch.
There is some truth to your post, but I think that a lot of people didn't want to have to struggle with the controls in the first place.
If one is constantly confused, and has to spend a great deal of time just getting around the controls, it really gets in the way of the game - and there is a good game beyond those controls. I don't know if it applies to everyone else, but I found myself taking issue with the controls many hours into the game, and I couldn't help but think how great the game would've been with some more time, and a simplified control scheme.
Anyway, I think a smoothed-over version of the game, with some extra polish here and there would be a good idea.
I pass on most square games. They're not bad by any means, just don't get my attention that much. This one, however, looks interesting. I thought I had already heard of every obscure 16-bit rpg, but no.
I always thought it would be good if Link put on a bit more muscle. And in all honesty, this version looks great, but I think part of the reason for him being not so muscular is that he's relatable to the average person. Something between his current iteration and this would be good.....that's coming from someone who is quite muscular, just so you know I'm not trying to be biased here.
@FX29 I agree. Look at the TMNT Cowabunga Collection with 13 games in one, plus online functionality and extras, for 40 bucks. That is how it is done (assuming they don't screw it up between now and then).
This, and the Turrican collections just totally turned me off. I will wait, and if nothing comes, just spend my money on something more satisfactory.
Edit: though it stings a little because I'd love to play the PC Engine version of Valis IV.
I really enjoyed the SNES Power Rangers games. I went back and played them a few years ago, and they were still fun. Fighting Edition is horribly unbalanced, but it had a lot of heart put into it.
I feel like it was the best for its time. I remember when we hooked all four controllers and played through an afternoon, thinking "this is the one right here." Looking back, it really is quite limited.
Back in the day, the game felt huge...like it was everything 64 was supposed to be, and refined to perfection.
I really do hope the next iteration could bring back some of the features like unique character specials and the buddy mechanics. That would perhaps properly rend this game obsolete.
(Honestly, thinking of this game makes me sad. We had such good times with it back in the day).
It depends on the circumstances. I just preordered the TMNT Cowabunga Collection. I only seem to pre-order games once or twice a year, and it's almost always something that I really want, or something that I believe will hold or increase value over time.
The vast majority of games I own are purchased on sale, and my ownership ratio of physical to digital is about 1 to 4.
I rarely ever feel remorse for pre-ordering a game, though I did preorder and wait for the Shantae 5 physical release. It wasn't a terrible feeling, but after finding out that there were updates shortly after, I was like "well.... this is a little self-defeating."
I think, that rather than completely eschew pre-order purchases, I prefer to simply use discretion and avoid overtly impulsive behavior.
As for games like TMNT Cowabunga Collection - the type of game I've been wanting for ages - it will really have to suck and be sold for like 5 dollars before I feel any remorse.
I played through the demo on the pc version last night. It was awesome. It's pretty much a clone of Contra/Probotector, with some of the features and death from Hard Corp on Genesis.
Based off of what I played, it doesn't feel as polished as Blazing Chrome, but it's still fun and well-designed.
I'll probably get the switch and pc version, because I like anything that does contra well.
Yes, suplex was awesome. Every button would do a different finishing move. Only problem is that it only worked on smaller enemies most of the time, but it was still awesome.
Yes, that soundtrack. I love how they went full-on metal. I like all the F-Zero music, but going straight up hard rock and metal was a great decision. I think I'ma have to dig this one back out.
I played the demo last night, and it looks beautiful and plays smooth (for Kirby at least). Car-by is super fun to control. I love that there is a difficulty choice....hopefully there is a super hard / difficult mode to unlock.
I have most of these games....It's been so long that I've forgotten about them until seeing this list. I just ordered a really big sd card and am going to head up to my attic, break out the wii u, and get everything downloaded. Feels like the "real" death of the wii u, and 3ds. I'm going to make sure that I get all of the content that I truly want to play before they shut down.
My family and myself have also given tens of thousands of dollars to this company over the past thirty-five years, in exchange for their products and services, and will continue to do so indefinitely, so if I theoretically managed to break out my wii u for some minor modifications, I wouldn't feel too guilty.
Not that I'm going to, but the desire to do so currently outweighs my feelings of premeditated guilt.
No. I don't, and nobody should. I'm an American, and I love hearing foreign accents, especially British. Aside from that, I would well believe that the voice actors are chosen based on their talent, and from my play of XC2, I think most of them did a pretty good job.
Not all technologies are a step forward. NFTs are highly inefficient, basically useless, and are a step backward on many levels. I try to see the positive in most things, but for NFT, the costs outweigh any minor or perceived benefits. They're trash.
Like so many others have said already, it's just another way for rich people to line their pockets a little bit more (off of the backs of people who lack critical thinking skills).
Feel like a lot of people are missing the point with how the series was intentionally simple and regressive. Being overly simple was still pretty new at the time......Microsoft, Sony and all kinds of competitors were making more complicated games that required lots of buttons....Nintendo and their crew were like "Hey. Of course, most will agree that the series did start to turn stale by the time it rolled onto the Wii U. The games weren't bad, but it definitely felt like more of the same.
The series just failed to do anything really new after the wii game...perhaps Luigi U was a step in the right direction, but it was too little too late and many were just ready to move on.
I think nintendo will once again reintroduce 2d Mario (not counting maker here, though it is awesome, it is kinda its own separate series) in some kind of way that will feel rad and fresh again....
that said, I feel like Nintendo has needed to put Mario and his pals on the back-burner for some time now. Nintendo seems to get really confident when they've been on a good roll, then they become stagnant and get their little booties kicked for a while, then have to get good again.
