Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Dauntless

After all these years Reggie actually gave a straight answer?
At least I 'll have the piece of mind knowing that Pikmin 4 will never see the WiiU.
Breath of the Wild will be my last Nintendo game. I'm not dealing with Nintendo again after the WiiU.
With the exception of the Wii, every Nintendo home console successor has has sold less than its predecessor. If this trend continues the Switch will sell less than the WiiU and be a bigger failure.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Offers Hope for Those Dreaming of Mother 3, Metroid and More on Switch

Dauntless

Yeah not getting the switch. Not listening to Reggie tell me alot of nothing anymore. This system already has the worst launch lineup and Nintendo doesn't want to talk about whether or not they are making the games that fans want? A lot of the switch's launch titles look like cancelled WiiU games. The switch is a hand held console that can be hooked up to the TV, not a real home console.

Re: Poll: Retro Delights and Stock Shortages - What Are Your Thoughts on the NES Mini Launch?

Dauntless

I don't think I'll ever buy one. The Value isn't there for me though I like the novelty of it.
In Canada the MSRP is $79.99. That is a steep price tag when all the games that I like I already have on my WiiU/Wii.
The controller cable is too short which means you have to spend more money on extension cables. I already have an official wireless option on my WiiU/Wii.
Its another thing taking up space that can't do anything the WiiU doesn't already do.
And there is the headache of being sold out nation wide. No stores were taking preoders and only a couple Gamestops/EB Games have limited stock on the west side of the country. The rest of the country is sold out or never got stock.
This is the worst launch ever. Nintendo doesn't learn.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Mini NES?

Dauntless

I would be more excited if I could actually preorder the damn thing. Outside of Europe no one is taking preorders. I might pass by the store to see if there is any next week but I won't be wasting my time hunting these down. Nintendo is really good at screwing up a launch.

Re: Nyko Thinks Cords Are Gnarly, Offers The Miniboss For The NES Classic Edition Instead

Dauntless

I've always preferred first party controllers over third party. Wireless dose have its advantages though. The extension cable will be needed for sure since Nintendo made the wire so damn short. They cheaped out by not going wireless and cheaped out again by shorting you on the wire. I would rather have a longer wire and no HDMI cable included. But since I don't see any stores taking preorders in Canada I don't expect to get one of these.

Re: GameStop Won't Offer Pre-Orders for the NES Classic Edition

Dauntless

Why does it seem like Nintendo is trying to create a shortage? BestBuy & Amazon are not taking preorders yet and GameStop confirmed they won't be doing it at all. If this thing is hard to find like when the Wii was released I'm simply not going to bother. Leave it to Nintendo to ruin my enthusiasm.

Re: Wall Street Journal Reports That Nintendo NX Will Indeed Use Flash-Based Game Cards

Dauntless

It will be cool to see cartridges make a comeback. But this does mean no disc drive and no backwards compatibility with WiiU & Wii Games. Doesn't really matter though because I don't think the NX will be successful anyways. Nintendo believes they have to do something different just for the sake of being different and than can't figure out how to explain to everyone else why different is better.

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U Will Be The Only Playable Nintendo Game at E3

Dauntless

All I wanted was Pikmin 4 so this is a huge disappointment for me. An entire E3 presentation just on Zelda won't keep my attention. If they seriously have nothing to show for the WiiU than they should start building up hype for the NX. Do they expect to reveal the NX to the general public at the last minute and hope everyone goes gaga over it?

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Planning A Series Of Wii U Remasters For NX

Dauntless

This looks more like a port job than a remaster. And it makes some sense. Splatoon & SSB4 both have online communities. With cross platform support of the same game Nintendo will be able to keep those existing users and expand upon it. This would also mean that the NX is likely not backwards compatible.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Source and Details Gain Some Traction

Dauntless

You can kiss your backwards compatibility good bye. The Wii & WiiU are based on a custom PowerPC architecture. If they switch to x86 they can't do hardware based backwards compatibility. They would need to do a software backwards compatibility solution and I don't think they will. They couldn't do something as simple as software emulation for GameCube memory cards on the Wii. I doubt they'll put the resources into NX BC. They didn't even bother releasing GameCube games on the WiiU either.

The WiiU is capable of playing GameCube games. It can't read the mini discs, or support GameCube memory cards and controllers natively. That needs software emulation. If you hack your WiiU and run the homebrew app Nintendont you can play GameCube ISOs from an SD Card or USB Hard Drive with your WiiU Pro controller and save your games to a virtual memory card on the SD Card. The hacking community proved that its possible. But Nintendo won't do anything that isn't on the cheap for them.

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller

Dauntless

A touch screen controller hurt the WiiU considerably by raising the cost without a proportional benefit to gaming. If Nintendo releases another touch screen controller that is even more expensive than the WiiU's they are doomed. A screen that wraps around buttons is a novelty that wont impress the majority for very long.

Re: Ubisoft Is Trying To Quell Beyond Good And Evil 2 NX Rumours

Dauntless

This game isn't big enough to give the NX much of an advantage. You have to be old to remember the first because so much time has passed. I wouldn't be surprised if people who started gaming with the PS3 or PS4 don't even know what it is. There are probably even people from the PS2 era that have never heard of it before.

Re: New North American Nintendo Selects Range Emerges in Retailer Listings

Dauntless

They need to localize the New Play Control Wii version of Chibi-Robo and release it as a select title. It isn't even costly to do because all they have to do is copy the english text from the gamecube version. I would get that if they did.
All these other Select titles I either have or don't want. Hopefully a Pikmin 3 rerelease means Pikmin 4 is coming to the WiiU.

Re: The Legend of Zelda for Wii U Gets Its 2016 Release Window Back, as Project Guard Slips to 'TBC'

Dauntless

The project games are probably dead at this point. They were announced in 2014 out of desperation of having nothing to show for the WiiU. They'll probably end up as digital only games if Nintendo doesn't write them off.
Its good to hear Zelda will be 2016. That means it is very likely to be released on the WiiU. All I want at this point is Pikmin 4 for the WiiU.
After 2016 I don't think the WiiU will get much more love from Nintendo because it already doesn't and the NX hasn't even been unveiled yet.
Needless to say I don't expect much from the WiiU. At this point any news about games still coming to the WiiU is big news because the system appears to be abandoned not only by third parties but by Nintendo as well.

Re: Rumour: Online Survey Mentions NX's 4K Video Streaming, 900p Gameplay And Hybrid Hardware

Dauntless

This is already a failure if those specs are correct. 4k streaming isn't the same as 4k gaming. That's why it mentions that it will do 900p gaming. The PS4 would be able to do 4k streaming if it supported the mandatory HDMI 2.0/ HDCP 2.2 DRM. Sony could release a new model with a new HDMI port to allow it. It wouldn't really drive up cost. But the PS4 is already 3 years old and Nintendo's newest system can't even match an outdated system? It is one thing to release an underpowered system before or along side the competition. It is something else to release an underpowered system well after your competition's hardware has aged. Nintendo never learns.

Re: Feature: Our Staff's Hopes and Dreams for Nintendo's 2016

Dauntless

@JaxonH
I'm not expecting Nintendo to get a PS4 install base day one. If it takes them 3 years to get a PS4 install base than I'll consider getting the NX in 3 years. Without that install base there is no 3rd party support in Nintendo's case. And what makes it even worse is that Nintendo dose eventually give up on their own platform too.

For example, they constantly showed off Zelda U for the first couple of years to hype up the WiiU and now that the WiiU is a commercial failure they don't want to talk about it anymore because its probably going to be an NX launch title. They said Pikmin 4 is nearly completed but don't want to confirm that it will be for the WiiU. The WiiU Animal Crossing isn't even a real Animal Crossing. What is up with that new Mario Tennis? Talk about lazy. There is a huge lack of support for the Virtual Console. We never did get those GameCube games. And there is countless Nintendo IPs that never got a WiiU release.

The way they are handling the WiiU's send off is why I have lost confidence in them. I'm not going to buy their next system in good faith. They have to prove themselves this time around. The WiiU 2016 lineup is practically non existent and the lack of any information is frustrating.

I'm not into handhelds so I don't have a 3DS to compliment the WiiU. My Nintendo criticism is strictly on their console performance. The WiiU has some of the best console games ever made. But I don't want to buy an NX for only 1 or 2 games because the install base isn't big enough for developers to care.

With the exception of the Wii Nintendo's install base has been declining ever since the NES. Every gen their install base gets smaller. Its taking them a long time to hit bottom because they started so high. I wouldn't be surprised if the NX only gets half of the WiiU install base.

Re: Feature: Our Staff's Hopes and Dreams for Nintendo's 2016

Dauntless

I don't have confidence in Nintendo so I won't be buying an NX until it gets an install base larger than the PS4. So I would like to see a Pikmin 4 for the WiiU before they kill it off. If they make it a dual release with the NX I'm cool with that. If they make it NX only I'll be very bitter about Nintendo's lack of WiiU support.
