Reminder: North American Gamers Can Buy an amiibo and Get Mini Mario & Friends Now

Nothing will encourage me to emancipate the figures from their plastic prison.

Is the Cloud amiibo out? Or the R.O.B. one? Those are the only two I would be willing to buy. Or maybe Ike, but I've never seen him at a store.

I have Shovel Knight and Yarn Yoshi. But the only reason I have them is I had to buy SOMETHING at Gamestop to keep my points, and I have Shovel Knight so I could unlock stuff, and the other I got for $8 and it was cute.

I just might use this as an excuse to go buy that Shovel Knight Amiibo that's been begging me to buy him from Best Buy for weeks

I get why it's the Mario series, but it's too bad they didn't allow more characters to unlock themselves within levels.

I'm not a big Amiibo collector, just went after the characters I already liked, but I have nine of them (more if you count the whole household's collection) and only Yoshi generates real levels.

I won't be bothering with this. I don't care about the main Mario cast. I just want to use characters like Mr. Game & Watch in a puzzle platformer!

I'm waiting on Bayonetta and a Lucina restock.

I wonder whether this will appear in Europe, or if it'll be yet another amiibo related thing that Europe doesn't get.

I purchased a Toad Amiibo this morning and got this game. So I am playing with Toad, Luigi and Link. The game will give you a generic character with any Amiibo, but the Mario characters unlock their characters. Each Mario character has a special ability and a special set of four stages. It also appears that they are used to get Amiibo cards that unlock Star Stages.

I looked at this as a re-introduction Mario vs DK series since the last one I played was DK '93. It isn't going to have a ton of levels (unless you own all the amiibo required), it will introduce you to the basic gameplay mechanics and help me decide if I want the other Wii U mini-Mario game.

Lol, if they had released this sooner, I could get the early access, but I have all the amiibos I want, so I guess I'll just have to wait for the real release date.

Anyway, I just bought a cheap Series 2 , six-pack of the Animal Crossing Series Amiibo cards from Best Buy for $4.79 after GCU, for in-store pick up. Just received my (Digital Add-on) download codes via email and will pick up my Amiibo cards later this week.

The Add-on's ARE listed at $4.99 each separately, so if you don't pick your Amiibo (cards) up, or try to return it, they'll likely, retroactively charge you that $9.98, lol.

I was waiting to buy Bowser Jr. for this deal... but Bowser Jr. is TRU exclusive... dang

It should be stated this is for US only, NOT Canada. It says so right on the official Mini Mario and Friends amiibo Challenge website. It kinda irks me because I was really looking forward to this game and was holding off on green yarn Yoshi to get this freebie with it. I guess Nintendo doesn't want our Canadian money, we'll have to wait until April 28 I suppose.

Aside from the AC cards there aren't anymore amiibo left I'd like to get, but I do own about 30 already (well, hundreds if you count the cards) so I would like to give this a go.

@JaxonH You own 4 of each Fire Emblem Amiibo? I can't find any except Marth (which I bought the second I found it) I tried 4 stores the Day Robin and Lucina came out, but the only place I even saw one was Best Buy. I was 6th in line and they only had 1 of each.
Any chance you'd sell a Robin?

You should have caught me at time of release. I bought 7 extra Lucina and Robins, and 11 Marths, for people who wanted them but missed out. But all those extras are long gone.

I have the Smash line displayed on my wall with custom shelves that have the cardboard pics behind each character, a second sealed set, and then a set of FE characters on my FE shelf, and the final set as sealed FE for safekeeping.

I suggest looking at importing- you can now order from Amazon JP directly. And you can import from one of the EU Amazons. Just pick a few amiibo so that shipping averages out to like $3 per amiibo.

@leo13 I am only missing Robin from all the Fire Emblem characters. Hopefully 1 day I will find him, but my funds are currently going towards amiibo I can find in store. Once those run out, I will turn my funds to importing or whatever.

Hope this makes it to Europe soon. Just bought an amiibo today then saw this and got tipping stars last month so hope it doesn't turn out frustratingly soon to rub it in. Splatoon boy amiibo only £5 on Amazon UK BTW people

Just to clarify for people, this is definitely an ad for the Mario Mini Tipping Stars game. With any Amiibo, you will unlock 12 basic stages that introduce you to the mechanics of the game. With the Mario Series Amiibo (Mario, Luigi, DK, Diddy Kong, Toad, Peach, Rosalina, Bowser, Bowser Jr., or Yoshi) you will unlock the related character. This lets you access four stages specific to the character and collect Amiibo Tickets that can be used to unlock 9 Bonus Star World Stages. Each Star World stage seems to need 20 tickets, so unless you have all the required Amiibo you cannot unlock them all.

So 12 Base Stages, 40 Character specific stages, and then 10 bonus Star World stages contained in a free to play game (if you have the required Amiibo). Unless you are like me and have been putting off buying a character that will unlock other things, I would wait until it is just available to download.

EDIT: Counting can be difficult.

I drove tonight to my local BestBuy store, grabbed a Famicom colored amiibo (yes!), and walked up to the register. I got my Mini Mario and Friends download code printed at the bottom of my sales receipt. But, as you can see it was not free. It automatically listed on my receipt as $4.99. I told the nice cashier lady I was under the impression it was a free download code with a purchase of any amiibo....but she said 'nope.'

I went ahead and paid for it because i had taken the time and effort to drive all the way there. Still, i feel like I got played hard tonight by Nintendo. >:[

@90sRetroGaming Actually, there was a restock last Summer for Rosalina. It was online only, but it lasted almost all day from what I remember. It wasn't great, but it's better than the incredibly limited first print.

This game is great! It's a bit of a hassle scanning different amiibo in and all that but hey, it's FREE, and the value comes from amiibo I already own, win win!

Seriously though, this game is fantastic. Mine cart levels for Diddy, moving/rotating barrel levels for DK... I love the different mechanical gimmicks for each character- between that, the themed worlds for each amiibo and multiple playthrough paths with different amiibo for the main road levels, it makes for a very unique spin on Tipping Stars, which was already a fantastic little concept for a game.

The only amiibo I have at the moment is the Mario 30th Anniversary one, and it works as the "Mario" character and gives access to the Mario exclusive levels. Neat. I've wanted to pick up the Mario collection anyhow.

Great little gamr. A lot of depth for a "freebie". Unfortunately, I only own three of the compatible amiibo (including the one I bought to go with it). There's a very expensive game trapped within this give-away.

Went back to BestBuy this morning and turns out i know the manager! (I forgot that he runs in my weekly running club). He is also a gamer and knew the code should have been free. So he instantly reimbursed me my $5.

You guys are going to hate me for saying this but this is the perfect game for the Amiiqo considering you need 11 different Amiibos to unlock the full game. It would be even better if Nintendo released a full deck of Amiibo cards at an affordable price.

@Giygas_95 It does? I would love to buy one. My gamestop says they had some on Black Friday and they lasted about 5 min. (I was at my parents house and there isn't a gamestop within a 2 hour drive.

@bezerker99 That's weird, I also got it from Best Buy Friday I bought Shovel Knight Amiibo, and didn't pay a dime for the 2 codes (they gave me BOTH the Wii U and 3DS code for buying 1 Amiibo)

It says "North America", but so far Canada doesn't seem to be in on the deal. Dialed up my local EB games (That's just the Canadian name for Gamestop BTW, they usually share their deals, exclusivity etc) and they don't seem to even know about the promotion.

@bezerker99 Sounds like Best Buy. I got told at least 10 times that I was going to get (or is was being shipped) my copy of Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition and I never got one.

Of coarse, I'm part of the problem as I keep buying from them. Between the Gamer's Club Unlocked and being able to get discounts on games and Amiibo for myself and my friends plus getting Reward Zone points I can't bring myself to buy somewhere else.
