@Hamguar Firstly, being able to move while drinking potions. That right there makes memorizing tells and openings far less of a priority, since as long as you have stamina and keep an eye on the monster you're getting healed regardless. Individual weapon balance encourages spamming the same move/combo more than ever (you have stuff like the Dual Blades and Charge Blade going from technical weapons to "spam demon dance/ultra burst and win the game"), and lower flinch thresholds + environmental traps lets you lock down monsters more easily than ever. Of course, to counter that they just inflated attack values on monsters. Rathalos' fireballs were fairly standard fare and not too damaging; certainly not the massive AOEs that knock out half your health with neutral fire resistance (making his "roar into fireball" combo even more annoying, as rather than getting plinked for standing right in front of him you get half you health knocked off for being anywhere remotely near his head). Diablos outright got half his moveset stripped away-- but can now two-shot you like it's nothing (he always hit hard, but never that hard with adequate gear). And then there's the major regression of the hitboxes; stuff like Anjanath and Tobi-Kadachi are nightmares with how disjointed theirs are, and virtually every monster has at least one.
Rather than a turn based-like, reactive flow of combat, it's about whether the player or the monster flips eachother the middle finger more.
You don't want this. World is hardly Monster Hunter. The areas are bloated messes, they screwed up the combat hard, the music is utterly forgettable.. it's a mess on virtually every level.
@Spectra Team Ninja were largely development grunts; Sakamoto, the game director, was the one who called all the shots and was responsible for the overall game structure and plot.
Also, Namco developed Smash 4. Just with Sakurai and Nintendo overseeing them. Same deal here.
@Wouwter Oh please. Games with bigger areas have been released on the Switch already (BotW, XC2); the only thing World is doing that's beyond the Switch is raw graphics. Every other change is just tweaking numbers/animations; if they had wanted to do any of those things before, they could have.
Pretty much every change seems reactionary to try and grab Western audiences.
@Arcamenel Not wanting anything to interfere with World's success.
For what it's worth, streams/leaks of the full game have confirmed that it's pretty heavily dumbed down in most aspects. The rumors that predicted MHW (and no, not the 4chan one) said work's already begun on a dedicated title for the Switch. Really, it makes no sense to long-term abandon the console base that supported them for the past half decade.
Donkey Kong... big? Yeah, it's what put Nintendo on the map as a game developer, but it hasn't exactly been at the forefront the past couple generations.
@Xaessya Guilty Gear has moved on to 3D; they'd have to do whole new sprites for everyone and constantly get compared. Plus, BB's director himself is a stated RWBY fan (outright saying at one point he'd love to work on a game with its characters).
@Shufty They've outright said that they're making this game more pad friendly, and individual character mechanics are a lot simpler (only light/heavy attack buttons with a chargable overhead thrown in) to make up for the tag team aspect.
@JHDK That's certifiable nonsense. The Nu3DS version runs at 45-50 FPS; the Wii U version is "30 FPS" but generally holds in the mid-20s. So the Nu3DS version effectively has double the frame rate.
This game. Revealed as a PS4 exclusive, dropped off the radar for a couple years, then re-emerged as multiplat. Impressions I read were pretty mixed-- basically it's just one more puzzle platformer that doesn't do anything too new or interesting.
What's not awesome is that she's a Marth clone and only uses magic in her Musous. Lyn's likely a Navarre clone as well (shown to dual wield in one render, something that Navarre is associated with in supplementary material).
@Cosats I'm not complaining as much as simply "noting". Homosexuals are a far, far smaller classification than Female (which makes up 49.5% of the human population, with the .5% difference being left over from males being more expendable in pre-historic societies).
@zionich It doesn't bother me much-- I just find it a bit odd how X had a pretty gender-equal ensemble, yet of the playable party all but one female is in a support/non-active role. The original was that way as well, thinking about it... . I guess I'm just more bothered by people likely ending up bothered by it, if you get what I mean.
I just want to know more about the party members at this point.
Though my biggest critique is that there's only 1 female party member shown, but 3 males (well, counting the Noppon). Blade wise, we've got three females and one cat. Nia (the sole female Driver) has the cat, while Rex has Pyrrha and blackhaired greatsword dude is partnered with a clearly feminine one that has what looks like an LED bulb hairpiece and a "tail" of sorts (seen in the main background art on the site). The Noppon's Blade is clearly mechanical besides her head (I say "she" because of the hair bow: http://xenobladechronicles2.nintendo.com/assets/images/screenshots/xenoblade-2-screenshot-04.jpg).
So, really we've got mostly male party members with female, human-looking Blades; NPCs either have clearly feminine looking Blades or weird robot things that I guess are male. Yggdroid syndrome, much?
@NewAdvent Japan's fatigued with the 4th generation games (which reflected on XX's original launch sales of 850k). They've already got their fill of XX and Capcom is busy promoting World; I think the more distressing fact is that it only sold through half its shipment.
What's not mentioned: that the Frostbite engine can be hell to work with. It was originally meant for shooters and it works great for that, but when you start adding stuff...
@Kalmaro It was also done to raise hype for Prime 4 and get more people interested in the Switch. Have people seriously forgotten one of the sanest pieces of reasoning to come out of Reggie's mouth?
@Kalmaro This was done so that it would have the maximum chances of success; logically, the same game is going to sell more on the 65 million install base than on the maybe 8 million by the end of the year install base.
@Mgene15 @EternalDragonX What... . The 3DS is comparable to the Gamecube and has the edge on the PS2 (the reason why PS2 ports generally don't run as smoothly is due to hardware architecture differences letting PS2 games brute force a lot of stuff). Also, the Switch is about half as powerful as the Xbox One, or thrice as powerful as the Wii U.
@greengecko007 X and Y are criticized for a bloated regional pokedex (something Sun and Moon adressed by having a far smaller regional dex), the new EXP share making difficulty a cakewalk (something it took until Sun and Moon for them to address, scaling the late game accordingly and having totems be far more difficult than gym leaders), and mega evolutions being more of a popularity contest than a mechanic meant to actually balance 'mons (at least Z-moves are once-per-battle nukes you can put on whoever).
X and Y were hated after its release much like Sun and Moon are now.
@greengecko007 X and Y were widely hated (I know because I took part in it and still think they're the worst Pokemon games), Black and White were (and still are) quite divisive, Gen IV's up in the air... Gen III's got nostalgia going for it but even ORAS showed that there was "too much water". When you have a series this big, there's always going to be a vocal group who hates the newest game.
It's always hip to call the newest pokemon games terrible, as this comments section demonstrates.
Like the re-arranged music, but they really haven't shown anything new or worth re-purchasing. Moon's my second favorite game in the series behind White, but I skipped out on White 2 as well. The re-releases just aren't for me.
I remember how funny it was watching Joshscorcher's reaction to Ubisoft's E3, what with RabbidLuigi (the youtuber) joking about how "the presentation is literally speaking to me".
@clvr Palkia is a big, reptilian creature. Dragon type is a safe bet. Its water typing is often discussed, with the most common explanation being water = pearls, since it's the mascot of Pearl.
You can't say that 'mons have gotten away from what Pokemon are supposed to look like when there was no rule to begin with-- the earliest gens are all over the place. They just threw the sprites in and called it a day, maybe producing artwork later.
@Akropolon Every gen has a few oddballs. The fact you chose to crap on Gen V when Gen I has just as many "questionable" designs doesn't reflect well.
@clvr @Jacob1092 Most Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon look simplistic and bland; it wasn't really until Gen 3 that they found an aesthetic and ran with it. What are the most popular Pokemon? Outside of the ones clung to be genwunners, you've got Lucario, Zekrom, Greninja, Decidueye, etc.; every single one of them stands out and, while clearly taking inspiration from real creatures, manages to have details that make it look like far more than a simple recolor.
And lol Digimon; get back to me when Pokemon starts having angels with barely covered breasts, mechs made of revolvers, and furrybait wearing actual clothing.
@UmniKnight Yeah. He name-dropped World months in advance; plus, even without that you've got basic business sense. The Switch is selling handheld numbers in Japan and will easily outsell the PS4 in the region given another year or so; considering who their primary audience was for the series, Capcom would be incredibly dumb to neglect them entirely.
@JaxonH We've only seen mega potions in use, which heal half the bar if you haven't eaten as per usual. Most of the other stuff are just symptoms of the larger environments (it would be incredibly dull without scout flies and fast travel between multiple basecamps, as you'd have to just trudge around everywhere for far longer than in the past). Stuff like mount resistance is up in the air, and some demos have shown changes (the IG's aerial attacks don't seem to mount at all, and monsters can and will knock you off much more easily than before). The things I will agree with you on is the change to item consumption animations and the environment being too exploitable.
Really, I guess since I was so virulently against the game at first I've mostly chilled and consigned myself to the likelyhood that it will be the easiest MH game to date. We've got reliable insiders claiming a more proper title. Plus, with how hyperbolic a lot of these people are being I act a bit more positive about the game than elsewhere.
@Rika_Yoshitake They've confirmed the "free DLC" system of the past (that is, keeping certain quests and monsters back from the initial release and gradually implementing them into the online portion) and there's no way the MH team would ever go with microtransactions.

@JKRiki Namco's the publisher, ASW's the developer.
@ilikeike BBTAG is using largely recycled PS3-era sprites; FighterZ is fully 3D in Unreal Engine 4. Quite the difference, technically.
Re: Soapbox: Monster Hunter World Has Claimed Its Prize, But Capcom Shouldn't Forget Nintendo
My big issue is that if there is a more traditional MH game made for the Switch, they won't see any reason to localize it.
