Re: Capcom Reportedly Gearing Up for Multiple Nintendo Switch Titles

CrazedCavalier

@bitleman Capcom went full PvP and tourney focused. Lowering the skill gap is them trying to get more people into the tourney scene.

And Monster Hunter isn't "chasing the AAA scene"-- it's by and large the same.

@Grudgebearer The game started development in early 2014. Switch dev kits weren't coming out until 2016-- the console was likely only a concept at that point. Graphically, World definitely doesn't look too intensive (looks more like a last gen port with better lighting)-- plus, it's on the series' main engine (MT Framework) which has been ported to the Switch for XX and USFII.

Re: Capcom Reportedly Gearing Up for Multiple Nintendo Switch Titles

CrazedCavalier

@AugustusOxy You really haven't seen any gameplay besides the terrible announcement trailer, have you?
World is pretty clearly monster hunter; same weapon mechanics and controls, same health and stamina system, new attacks for weapons taking from arts and styles... there's certain little things that definitely raise an eyebrow, but World by and large looks like what it is: Monster Hunter 5.
Do some fact checking before embarrassing yourself further.

Also, you're completely ignoring that SFV was pandering to the core at the exclusion of everyone else and that RE4 received mass acclaim and respectable sales, with only RE5 and 6 going downhill in quality.

@abe_hikura The vast majority of Japanese players are positive and onboard with the game. A few people are just cherry-picking replies from Zerochan ( aka Japanese 4chan) to try and fit a narrative.

Re: Capcom Reportedly Gearing Up for Multiple Nintendo Switch Titles

CrazedCavalier

@ShadJV The insiders who predicted MHWorld months in advance have said that they're also working on a title for the Switch.

Consider basic sales data: the PS4 took years to outdo the Wii U in Japan, and the Switch sales in the region are comparable to handhelds (meaning, once Apple gets their 10th anniversary Iphone out or whatever and smooths out the parts situation the Switch will blow past the PS4). XX Switch is already a thing coming in less than a month.

There will be a "traditional" MH game on the Switch, likely released sometime in 2019-- the question should be whether or not they localize it.

Re: Sonic Forces Listed On EB Games For 7th November Release

CrazedCavalier

@Kalmaro It's actually not that uncommon of an opinion from what I've seen. There's plenty of people out there who recognize its issues (short length, linearity) but have a blast with the core gameplay. It's definitely nowhere near a 3/10-- I'd honestly say about a 6.5. As I said, not amazing but more than fun enough for what you can get it for now.

Re: Sonic Forces Listed On EB Games For 7th November Release

CrazedCavalier

@MegaTen Yep.
I'm still kinda surprised that @AlexOlney compared it to 06-- that's as disingenuous and low as you can get (06 had terrible design choices and glitches that wrecked the gameplay-- I'd imagine they'd want to release a polished product and the gameplay itself has looked solid, if a bit safe).

@Kalmaro Sonic and the Black Knight, though obviously breaking from the series traditions, is actually pretty fun. Not a ton of replay value, but it's a blast to play-- definitely nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

Re: Etrian Odyssey V Launch Edition Will Come With An Art Book And Music CD

CrazedCavalier

@MegaTen What's best is that it's $40 USD-- not Atlus tax in sight!

@AlphaElite Mapping is a key part of the series identity. Turning on auto-mapping in the 3DS games illustrates that; not having to regularly look at and update your map messes with the pacing and overall feel of the game.

@Spoony_Tech This will actually be my first "main" EO game, having started with and greatly enjoying both Untold games.

Re: Editorial: Satoru Iwata's Vision for Gaming Continues to Shine Through Nintendo

CrazedCavalier

@RainbowGazelle I clicked on this article expecting exactly this melodramatic noise.

Iwata laid the groundwork-- the Switch was his idea and he oversaw it for the bulk of it's conceptual cycle. He's the one who pioneered Nintendo through something of a paradigm shift-- one that has made them the most successful since the Wii days, with his successor getting an even higher approval rating.

But what else can I say, other than it's perfectly possible to love something so much you hate it.

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima's Approval Rating Grows 10 Percent

CrazedCavalier

@RainbowGazelle And Xenoblade only got brought over to the US after NOE did all the heavy lifting-- with the copyright on the title screen saying 2011 despite release in NA om 2012, as a Gamestop exclusive no less.

@electrolite77 I was more saying that just because it discredits the sub-30 million assumption I see people making. Yeah, the PS4 is certainly #1 by a wide margin, but compared to 5th and 6th gens that margin isn't nearly so wide.

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima's Approval Rating Grows 10 Percent

CrazedCavalier

@electrolite77 For what it's worth, an internal slide from MS France ended up leaking not long ago claiming 36 million Xbox Ones sold/shipped.

@RainbowGazelle Even though your comment seems to have been hidden, I might as well throw my hat into the ring.
"Far more censorship"-- Nope, always been a thing. You've just got more people willing to whine to high heaven and back about it.
"Decreased NOE's power so the UK gets fewer localizations"-- What kind of conspiracy theory is this?
"increased the DLC, microtransations and all round money-grabbing side of Nintendo"-- Completely ignoring how the mobile foray was something Iwata gave the go-ahead on. And outside of IS' recent mistakes, none of Nintendo's DLC practices have been bad.

I'm not sure what some people are tripping-- wait, I do know: the nostalgia drug.

Re: The Industry Is Stronger When Nintendo Is Strong, Says Sony's Jim Ryan

CrazedCavalier

@AlexSora89 Jim Ryan seems to have been channeling both Don Mattrick and Reggie, what with recent comments about backwards compatibility and cross-play.

@BensonUii @Grudgebearer World began development right after 4 was completed (late 2013/early 2014) and they explicitly stated that they went for the top of the line consoles due to wanting to take a huge step forward. Plus, the Switch was still in the concept stage when the project began-- there was no way to port it for a large part of the development.

On top of that, the sources who leaked World are saying that a new MH for the Switch has already begun development. And XX is still coming to it in Japan.

Capcom likely doesn't have confidence in the West purchasing a G-rank rerelease (we got 4U but not 4, and 3U came out three years after Tri and on two different consoles). No conspiracy. The 4chan rumor is demonstrably bull.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Went Its Own Way at E3 2017, and It Mostly Worked

CrazedCavalier

To me, it was Nintendo wins by doing absolutely nothing.
An average E3 presentation with Metroid gives it a slight edge over all the other decidedly average E3 presentations.

Overall, I'd honestly say E3 2017 was pretty ho-hum. Nobody had any real major announcements and while the main conferences all showed lots of footage, few games were new or particularly impressive looking.

I'd say Nintendo's picking up steam at the point where MS and Sony are getting over the mid-life hump.

Re: Xbox Boss Wades In On Sony's Decision To Block Minecraft Cross-Platform Play

CrazedCavalier

@ThanosReXXX Historically, which one has been more secure: XBL or PSN?

@Octane That's talking about multi-plat games snapping up extra content on one console. I'd rather have a game come out slightly later on another console than the same time but without certain extras.

And really? Bringing that up after four years? They didn't follow through with it and Don Mattrick has been gone for years.

@psycho_punch How does it improve their market share? It doesn't cost anybody a cent (if anything it costs MS more).

Some of y'all are so desperate to push a "bad guy MS" narrative. Cross-play connects the playerbase and makes the game more attractive (I've seen people say they're interested in the game solely because of this announcement). Nintendo and Sony still get a cut from money spent in the game and from people buying the game on their platforms. It's a win-win situation.

Re: Capcom Not Confirming Plans for Monster Hunter XX on Switch in the West 'At This Time'

CrazedCavalier

@Jessica286 Outside of the claim of being "more story driven", absolutely nothing new.
The 4chan rumor is nonsense.

READ.
Maps are still divided up into zones-- they're just larger than before with little loading areas between them rather than loading screens.
You're still dropped into a map at base camp when you start a quest (maps aren't interconnected). TL;DR It's not really open world; just seamless.
Weapons aren't being dumbed down in the slightest (4chan rumor claimed they would be).
They've only added features and mucked around with items.

You're ignoring everything I say. Read up on more than one Gamespot article.
Like this one, for instance: http://www.siliconera.com/2017/06/13/monster-hunter-world-introduces-big-changes-retains-plenty-monster-hunter-charm/

Re: Capcom Has No Plans to Bring Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch to the West

CrazedCavalier

@Jessica286 What?
Monsters don't have health bars and there's still numbered zones-- there's just obvious transition areas between them rather than loading screens. The core gameplay is staying the same as I've detailed in earlier comments. I'd suggest you do some research yourself before being invested in a half-baked 4chan rumor.

@greengecko007 Blockbuster game sales are highly frontloaded.
And that's also kinda the point: console install bases simply aren't as big in Japan as they used to be. The focus is on handelds and portability.

Re: Capcom Has No Plans to Bring Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch to the West

CrazedCavalier

@Jessica286 The rumor is confirmed nonsense.
World started development right after vanilla 4 was completed (late 2013), and seeing Sony's recent behavior over cross-platform play there's no way they'd have let an Xbox One version be made.

The rumor also said the gameplay would be greatly dumbed down and westernized-- which is confirmed 90% untrue (a few minor tweaks that are YMMV items, but every weapon is returning with expanded options on top of their base movesets).

That said, the series will likely continue on the Switch in Japan.

@JaxonH Uhh...

Re: Capcom Has No Plans to Bring Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch to the West

CrazedCavalier

@Equinox Considering how much they've confirmed is still in (all 14 weapons, adding mechanics to them that seem reminiscent of styles/arts rather than changing or dumbing them down-- GS can charge in the air, HBG has machine gun fire tied to a meter---, numbered zones still exist and there's just short tunnels cutting them off, health/stamina/sharpness management are all sticking around), it's actually sounding pretty good.
