Nintendo has announced that the next Splatfest in Splatoon 2 will be kicking off next weekend, asking the age-old question of 'gherk-IN', or 'gherk-OUT'.
Taking place in Europe only, this Splatfest will provide definitive proof as to whether or not gherkins deserve a place inside a delicious burger - something we're sure you'll agree is of utmost importance.
This pickle-themed war will be heating things up at 2pm UK / 3pm CET on Saturday 10th, giving you one whole week to make your decisions and prepare for battle.
Which side are you on?

Not in Europe but I'd go without them myself.
I'm glad Australia doesn't share Splatfests with Europe anymore because I couldn't care less about this one.
I don't particularly mind them, but there should be no more than two in a burger. One is ideal though.
I always eat Hamburger With pickles inside.
Yummy.
Out out out.
I'm always jerking my gherkins out of my burgers.
Bleah they are gross. No one puts them in their burgers here in Italy except for McDonalds
Gherkins are lovely, especially on a burger.
Team Gherkin for the win and Beefsquatch.
Edit: Also, it might be a good idea to put a poll in these Splatfest stories in future to see what's the most popular choice amongst the NL members.
@Noonch
I had to read that a couple of times... I thought it was an euphemism at first!
i've never heard the word 'gherkin' before. and i know a lot of words.
Get these gherkins out of my burger! Loads of onions, too, for that matter! And the oceans of ketchup and mustard most chefs put on burgers these days! Disgusting! .... sorry, I‘m just very picky when it comes to sandwiches of any kind.
Hope, I‘ll find time to reach Queen. Am scheduled to shoot parts of my short film that weekend.
Gherkins in it is then! Although I'm english and always call them pickles. Haha.
I'm on Team Gherk-SHAKE-IT-ALL-ABOUT personally.
Gherk-out for me, but one thing I have the utmost distaste for is hamburgers, which is what they call cheeseburgers without cheese. Not a fan of tomato sauce either, unless it's mixed into a different sauce.
My perfect cheeseburger is one with cheese (duh), grilled beef, green salad, corn, pickled champignons, and sour cream sauce.
Not really a fan of pickles, apart from kimchi, but that's not something that you would have with a burger
This is literally the first time I've heard the term gherkin.
Personally I really like gherkins, I'll take them in a burger no problem.
That reminds me I should buy pickles more often, they're handy as a snack food.
Pickling is a process of preserving food in vinegar or brine. So while I get what people mean when they say pickles as opposed to gherkins, gherkins(pickled cucumber) is in fact the correct term for these as pickles covers a wide range of food; e.g. onions, beetroot, olives, fruit, fish, peppers, gherkins, etc.
The Americans calling gherkins, pickles, is just another example of their mistakes, like how they spell certain words wrong and their whole backward system of measurement. Get with the Metric System please people!
Europe always gets better Splatfest themes. I’m still bitter that we didn’t get the toilet paper one here in America.
I love gherkins in burgers. They aren't essential to me, but I'd never remove them.
Around here, the discussion would more likely be about whether or not to remove the slice of tomato in the döner.
...You guys call pickles "gherkins"?
Welp, you learn something every day.
I don't live in Europe, but I would be Gherk-in.
Really wish they would stop queuing these up with the arms events!
STOP!
Gherk-OUT-OF-MY-BURGER-YOU-YUCKY-YUCKY-THING!!! (..not a fan, as you probably guessed!) ..looks like we'll actually be on the same side this time @GoldenGamer88
@NaviAndMii So we are. As with every Splatfest, I‘d like to get a team together and do some team matches but considering next weekend‘ll be busy on my part, I can‘t tell when I‘ll have time to play. I‘ll likely try and get to Queen Saturday evening to early night. Who needs sleep, right?
I would never put a gherkin in my burger, and yet I wouldn't take it out if it was in there. I'm kind of gherkin agnostic, I guess. If I had to pick a side, it would be.....fries.
i'm surprised nobody has mentioned pickle rick yet
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Switching from the Customary system to the Metric system would be smart but incredibly expensive. All that matters is that people with jobs where metric is crucial (and downright practical) are using it.
Aside from that, I'm happy to start commenting on these articles rather than reading them as a guest.
...
Yum
@GoldenGamer88 Haha! Saturday is actually likely to be my best opportunity to jump in too, so I'll hopefully see you there!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You are painting with some seriously broad brushes there. Holy poo.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There is quite the irony in your comment. It assumes that there is one correct version of a language, and that variation is inherently incorrect. If this is true--and remember, this is your assumption, not mine--then your English is just as incorrect as mine, because the one true version of English isn't found in Ireland, it's found in England. London, specifically.
either side
(but, i'm not from UK. )
Gherk-IN, naturally!
What's a gherkin?
I hate vinegar so nothing pickled at all for me, be it these or any other veggies.
Gherks out for hamburge.
eww, out I say!
With all due respect, @sligeach_eire, put a gherkin in it.
What the hell is a Gherkin?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Screw Europe and its metric system! Imperialistic USA all day!
#HomeOfTheFree/LandOfTheBrave
Love me some gherkin (not a euphemism), just not the piddling ones McDonald’s slap on their burgers
In, along with a fried egg, beetroot, and onion.
Nah nah nah nah nah, a burger needs jalopenos.
I'm in, KC is my favourite character so looking forward to this one
@SLIGEACH_EIRE yeah, sure...
I would usually side with Marina but the gherk-out pun is very tempting.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I want to be on team Beefsquatch!
I TURNED MYSELF INTO A GHERKIN MORTYY! I'M GHERKIN RIIIICKK!!
A harder question is, what DOESN'T a pickle go with? Answer that, if you can!
The Angry Video Game Nerd's buddy here approves of this Splatfest. 😁
@Dr_Corndog "A harder question is, what DOESN'T a pickle go with? Answer that, if you can!"
Here's a couple of things pickles don't go with: ice cream, chocolate, cake, kisses
@SLIGEACH_EIRE but what about the fact that a gherkin is also the specific type of cucumber (which can be eaten cooked, raw, or pickled)? Calling it a gherkin makes it just as confusing as you could be referring to the type of cucumber OR a pickled cucumber. Heck, I have never heard of someone calling anything but a pickled cucumber a “pickle”. They just say “pickled pepper”, “pickled fish”, “pickled pigs feet”, etc. So calling it a pickle is less ambiguous as that name only applies to pickled cucumbers, while a gherkin doesn’t specify whether it’s pickled or just that specific type of cucumber.
@The_Mysteron clearly you’re not enthusiastic enough about pickles. If you were, you’d pair pickles with all of those things!
What on Earth are gherkins?
Well, at least we all know what side Hisami will be picking.
I love this kind of theme. It's too bad the pineapples on pizza one never came to the Americas, and neither will this.
That said: get those disgusting green things out of my sandwich, please.
I'm not European, but I love me some pickles on pretty much anything I eat.
Also, Jesus, I haven't played any Splatfest in Splatoon 2 since the first one. I really need to chug through my backlog so I can go back to Splatoon 2 and some other Switch games.
@The_Mysteron I'm...skeptical.
Hope North America gets a Splatfest soon too!
@WindyCityGSH "You are painting with some seriously broad brushes there. Holy poo."
Dude is painting with a Dynamo Roller!
