An updated teaser website devoted to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has been uploaded by Nintendo. The Monolith Soft RPG is slated for a Holiday 2017 release and will take players to the world of Alrest, where scavenger Rex is tasked with preventing the end of the world. The new site shares more details on the world, characters and story, highlighting that to truly rescue Alrest players must "first demystify its cloudy past".
Along with this, character details are given for main characters Pyra and Rex, with the latter's entry mentioning that he will come to play an "enormous part in determining the future of the world". Further details are likely to surface with the current website mentioning that a full site is in development.
A detailed synopsis for the Xenoblade sequel can be read below:
Lost in a sea of clouds, entire civilizations rest on the backs of Titans. As the giant beasts march toward death, the last hope is a scavenger named Rex—and Pyra, a living weapon known as a Blade. Can you find the fabled paradise she calls home? Command a group of Blades and lead them to countless strategic victories before the world ends.
Each Titan hosts its own distinct cultures, wildlife, and diverse regions to explore. Search the vast open areas and labyrinthine corridors for treasure, secret paths, and creatures to battle and index.
During these escapades, you’ll get to know a large cast of eclectic characters, including the weaponized life forms known as Blades. Gather these allies, bond with them to increase their power, and utilize their special ARTS to devastate enemies. But to save the world of Alrest, you must first demystify its cloudy past.
Are you excited to explore the world of Alrest? Let us know in the comments.

Nice waiting for this games release!
Need this game.
I'd appreciate a rerelease of the first game, since I didn't have an opportunity to play it. Still, a big meaty RPG is always appreciated.
I am glad that this release has nothing to do with the original or X as I have played both but have not fininished them. I am looking forward to exploring this world and wish Nintendo would re-release the Chronicles and X for the switch...while I'm wishing I would love for Nintendo to bring the Metroid Prime Triology to Switch as well!
I just want to know more about the party members at this point.
Though my biggest critique is that there's only 1 female party member shown, but 3 males (well, counting the Noppon). Blade wise, we've got three females and one cat. Nia (the sole female Driver) has the cat, while Rex has Pyrrha and blackhaired greatsword dude is partnered with a clearly feminine one that has what looks like an LED bulb hairpiece and a "tail" of sorts (seen in the main background art on the site). The Noppon's Blade is clearly mechanical besides her head (I say "she" because of the hair bow: http://xenobladechronicles2.nintendo.com/assets/images/screenshots/xenoblade-2-screenshot-04.jpg).
So, really we've got mostly male party members with female, human-looking Blades; NPCs either have clearly feminine looking Blades or weird robot things that I guess are male. Yggdroid syndrome, much?
@CrazedCavalier If it bothers you, I can't be mad at that. It's your preferences. I just don't worry about minute stuff such as that. Either way. My Switch is ready.
I hope I can swap Pyra with someone else during gameplay. Her outfits is kinda disturbing me. Too sexy.
I'm not fan of Moe girls with sexy body & big boobs.
I'm fan of Six packed Handsome guys.
@zionich It doesn't bother me much-- I just find it a bit odd how X had a pretty gender-equal ensemble, yet of the playable party all but one female is in a support/non-active role. The original was that way as well, thinking about it... . I guess I'm just more bothered by people likely ending up bothered by it, if you get what I mean.
@Anti-Matter Wait, are you a guy? Just wondering.
I never finished the first one on Wii. Is it playable on the N3DS or is it a nightmare on the small screen?
It seems more and more likely that, against all predictions, this one will actualy release on time. Color me impressed (and extremely excited).
What kind of questions is that? Of course I'm ready for this world. Another great time sink.
@Aaron09
Yes.
I'm a 32 (this October I will be 33) young adult male gamer from Indonesia.
You can check my profile that will lead you to my Instagram (with my real face) and my deviantart account (my drawings)
You will see why I adore six pack guys so much.
@NESlover85 Don't jump to conclusions too soon... the only thing they've really said on that subject is that it's a completely different world... but that doesn't actually mean all that much in the greater scheme of things... Takahashi seems to be leaving breadcrumbs within the Xenoblade games that could actually tie them together into a far greater story.
This is the game that will get me to buy a Nintendo Switch.
I am so excited for this game! I need it now!
@Reignmaker I hope they bring both XC1 and XCX to Switch. They could do a bundle pack, like what Capcom is doing with RE:R for Switch
Removed - inappropriate language
Loved the original, really enjoyed X (though not as much as the first), looking real forward to this one. Hopefully ends up another 100+ Hr adventure where exploration is a real joy.
Only minor disappointment is supposed lack of dual languages. Whilst I actually really liked the British VA's in Xeno 1, didn't like the Eng Dub in Xeno X. Also not really liking the VA's so far from the trailers. However it ain't a dealbreaker and they'd have to be horrible for really be impactful (like Chaos Wars Bad).
Waifu Chronicles Hype!
@CrazedCavalier I actually hadn't even thought about that. Huh, it does seem weird now that you mention it (although my guess would be it'll bear out as we see more characters, because Chronicles was fine).
@Anti-Matter lol, sorry for the random comment, but I always appreciate the positivity you bring to this site
XC was just a wonderful experience. XC2 is top of my wishlist.
Definitely my most anticipated game 2017 that's not yet released (yes, even more than Odyssey). Hopefully, it still makes it this year.
@CrazedCavalier I was thinking the same thing. Why are strong female protagonists so rare in Nintendo games?
That never stopped me from loving Nintendo, and it probably never will. Still, it would be nice...
@CrazedCavalier I agree. I don't like it when people try to make their issues my issues.
I need this game in my life
@Al_Godoy I love the original on N3DS, I definitely recommend playing that if you don't have access to the Wii one.
@CrazedCavalier Also, there is no gay character. Should I complain about this too?
@DragonEleven Then hopefully is isn't a direct sequel. Not having seen the end of Chronicles 1, I wouldn't know if Shulk and gang continue their story afterwords.
@Anti-Matter So are you gay?
XC 2 looks great. The first was epic, and X was a blast. Getting lost on Mira was way too cool, and finding my way around Bionis was excellent. Can't wait for this game!
Side note: I'll just play when the kids aren't around and put on the parental controls so my 3 year-old doesn't play this game. She already plays Retro City Rampage DX and tries to park the cars she's stolen, not really understanding ANYTHING going on in the game, but this is still probably not appropriate for someone that young.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2? More like, Anime Waifu Chronicles 2
@Aaron09 do you have a problem with that?
@Aaron09 what difference does it make to you?
@Aaron09 Who cares if he is?
@Anti-Matter She's still a main character so you're gonna have to get used to the boobs. They're gonna be in every cutscene.
@IronMan28 3 year old wearing you out huh? Just yesterday I let my 12 year old son start his first M rated game. He, his brother and my wife were already watching me play it so I figured might as well. I feel a little torn about it, but it doesn't seem any worse than anything in a PG-13 movie, Jurassic World was practically a slasher flick. It's Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning on PS3. Parenting is hard when you want your kids to join you in fun stuff. My wife and I are debating letting our 15 year old son watch GoT with us when we rewatch seasons 1-7 before 8 airs. He'll be 16 by then so we'll see.
Very much looking forward to this, boobs, girls, guys whatever, first 2 were great, we're all gathering on the couch for this one ASAP. I still don't know what "Holiday 2017" means. It's September already, pick a date for crying out loud.
@IronMan28 The only thing that killed me about X was the broken story. The rest of the game is great.
@rjejr Kingdoms of Amalur is one of those games I feel is oddly M-rated. That game wasn't particularly "mature" if memory serves, so I'll agree with you and your wife's assessment on that game. My 5-month old son seems poised to also love games, since he seems very interested in when I'm playing Zelda or my wife (or I) is/am playing Splatoon 2. Both of my kids are excellent at keeping myself and my wife very busy. My daughter has an affinity for cars, so she'll routinely play either version of MK 8 we own, or Retro City just because of the car factor. But yes, parenting is very hard in many facets, especially when it involves your hobbies.
I want a solid release date for this, too. We're already in September, but they were also slow with FE: Warriors, so they may announce it on a random Tuesday this month. Either way, it needs to happen very soon.
Waiting for a special edition.....
@justin233 @faint No not at all. Just curious
@Cosats I'm not complaining as much as simply "noting". Homosexuals are a far, far smaller classification than Female (which makes up 49.5% of the human population, with the .5% difference being left over from males being more expendable in pre-historic societies).
I just want the dual audio option in there, then I could be happy and buy the game Day One.
@zionich I agree. The world is interesting enough for the story not to bother me, though.
Look at all the triggered snowflakes losing it because someone pointed out (rightly) there aren't that many female characters.
Well this thread escalated quickly!
@IronMan28 KoA:R starts w/ a decapitation - just like The Hobbit first movie - and then a dwarf gnome guy gets shot from behind thru his chest w/ an arrow. So it's not exactly a Mario kid friendly game I know, but all his friends are playing FPS so I'll stick w/ the fantasy cartoon blood and violence. Gotta grow up sometime. If I had daughters they'd probably be limited to Dora and Elven Lego games. Surprised you even knew the game, wasn't exactly a blockbuster, company went out of business soon thereafter.
I'm expecting a ND in September w/ a date for XC2 and some bundle for Christmas. Maybe they'll throw in a 32GB SD card to quell the angry mob.
I've never played any of the Zeno blade games. Might have to give this a try.
I must admit, I tried Chronicles on the 3DS and didn't enjoy it.
I sunk about sixty hours into it, the story engaged me but the battle system left me utterly cold. Maybe because it was played after the Bravelys and Dragon Quests, but I found it really unsatisfying.
I'll hold my hands up, it was probably cos I couldn't be bothered with crystals etc, but I could never seem to get a good chain attack going.
I'd crack on, do well, meet a boss then have to grind like a grindy thing to level up.
I can appreciate why some love the depth, but it never 'clicked' with me.
Pyra is the monado with boobs? This game is gonna be a ten
The only real problem I have with this game is the Tales-like art style it's going with, which in my opinion feels a bit generic, since I'm more used to the original Xenoblade art style. Other then that I'm hyped for this game's release.
@rjejr Ah, I honestly forgot a lot of that game (although it was pretty good). I also remember that the dev was funded by the state of Rhode Island, which is ironic because Curt Schilling is very conservative and claims to dislike the idea of Socialism, only to benefit from something resembling the economic system. Regardless, it was a pretty good game that just didn't do very well because EA botched the launch.
I will reiterate that this game is one of my more anticipated Switch games coming soon. This, and the obvious ones coming out into next year (meaning pretty much everything that was announced at E3 2017).
@Aaron09 @Anti-Matter Thanks for the chuckle with this conversation; Needed it.
@Anti-Matter P.S. Both six-packs/'muscles' and boobs are overrated af.
@AlwaysGreener That's the kinda thing that stuck out to me, too, since the trailer. Won't turn a shoulder ultimately, but makes it feel a little...off to me.
The trailer in the site doesn't make the game any favors in my opinion it looks worse than the Wii U Xeno X. But then you look at the images and they look way better except for some of them. I guess I will have to wait till the release and see it on my tv to truly capture if it is worse or better than Wii U Xeno X. I'm hoping for 60fps and better graphics cause the Switch is way more capable than the Wii U but they did reuse a lot of assets from Xeno X it seems.
can't wait!
@Reignmaker The original is on Wii U virtual console now, if you have a Wii U! It's a very good game, X as well.
@TheSpeedyMouse I hope we get the entire Xenoblade Chronicles series on the Switch.
@CrazedCavalier Do let me jump in your boat and sail along with you, since I share that sentiment whole-heartedly. It'll be like FE: Fates' Camilla all over again. They won't remember anything of Pyra other than her form, and how her physique stands out (It's funny, considering what the artist drew and in which vein he probably drew her)
@Lalivero (points to Arthur's face) That is my reaction regarding the "boob overrated" part.
Yummy. My favorite or one of them.
I am not overly fond of the art style, but this is still an auto buy for me.
But I wonder, is this only a spiritual sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles? At a glance it doesn't seem to have any direct connections to the first game.
@Aaron09 It's unlikely the original will come to Switch due to XC 3D, but I could see X! I would love if they brought both, though.
I need to hurry up and beat Xenoblade Chronicles 3D!
@Aaron09
Umm......
Hard to say....
I don't like too sexy / naughty looking girls (Big boobs, Seductive looking & body language), but i'm fine with Nice looking girls such as Fashion model or Ordinary looking girls. As long not too sexy, i'm fine with them.
I'm also play Final Fantasy X-2 (there are 4 sexy ladies especially Le Blanc but they are not really disturbing me ), watching America's Next Top Model series , watching Sailor Moon series (And of course there are some gender confusion and issues inside Sailor Moon series such as Lesbian couple of Haruka & Michiru, Sailor Transgenders I mean the Sailor Stars), etc.
I'm interested with six pack guys especially Bodybuilders and Boxers since when I was 5 - 6 years old (Well... Rocky III opening scene was my Love at First Sight about Awesome Masculine looking of male). And that's why you can see from my avatar.
Btw, i'm not bi anyway.
Looking forward to this, but man, I have GOT to go back and finish the first game before I can play this.
@NESlover85 HD remasters of the original Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy would be nice. And how about one of the Last Story?
The fact they're putting this site up is a good sign it's arriving before the end of the year, right? Right?
@rjejr Amalur is one of my favorite games ever, good on you for letting the little one play it, one of the best combat systems I've played in a long while and still holds up well.
I still weep at the studios closure. The state of Rhode Island (my state) just expected all of the loan money to be paid back WAY quicker than was feasibly possible. 2 million copies sold for a new IP is an excellent start. Could have been a really cool industry to build up, RI really needs something besides tourism.
@Mii_duck I completely understand that. I love the series but I'm really bad at the battle system and pretty much have to grind a bit early and keep at it so that I can defeat everything simply because I'm stronger. And when I played the original Dragon Age I couldn't even get enough of a feel for the battle system to describe myself as bad at it. Sometimes I wish RPG developers wanting to use an active system would just make battle like an actual action game instead of trying to come up with new ways to select items from menus.
Another great game coming to Switch!
I am really looking forward to this title and I am so glad they went the direction they went, looks amazing I really hope we get some new amiibo with it that would be great .
arble garble...I still have to finish XCX. I need more time....more time I say!
Well I hope this time around I will have the opportunity to play this game and I must admit, the Nintendo switch is really cool!!!!
@Anti-Matter I can understand that. I have a huge respect for the male body's design even though I don't consider myself gay. You look at those men as role models, something you dream to be, and that's ok! I'm a weight lifter myself so appreciating the male anatomy is quite relatable.
Tis one should be better than that JRPG junk FFXV...
Game could end up being one of the best JRPG's of all time, which it likely will given both it's predecessors are.
@PanurgeJr bite your tongue.
@JaxonH I agree. Over the past year or so, Xenoblade has become one of my all-time favourite series. I'm debating on whether or not it is my actual all-time favourite series.
@Indielink Amalur is holding up really well considering I just spent 175 hours immersed in Zelda. I'm only 6 hours in, still in the first town cursing myself for using the stolen great potion during battle before I found out I needed to give it to the injured fae. And while the map and names are all a bit too Tolkienesque to be considered original by any means, the music and voice acting is really good. The graphics seem a bit PS2 at times, but they were a new company, and I've been playing PS4, Wii U and Xbox games the past year so they have some tough competition. Had I played the game when it released I'm sure the graphics would have been fine. Though there is something PC about them - maybe the lip syncing - I find a little off-putting, but for a first time game they did a really good job. I already like it better than FFXV and that took Squenix 10 years to release.
@IronMan28 I'm not a big Curt Schilling fan - too much NYer in me - and I never understood why a guy who made over $100 million throwing a baseball needed gov't money to make a videogame, so I wasn't exactly upset for him when they folded, but it always sucks when people lose their jobs. Don't know how EA was involved, but if they were, that explains it. Probably should have made a few edits to get rid of that M rating, it's no GTA. Though Diablo 3 is M, didn't seem to hurt that game any, and there are similarities. Probably didn't hurt that Daiblo addicts from childhood are all old enough now.
I hope XC2 doesn't turn out M. Though now that my kid has played 1 I suppose it's no longer an issue. He still isn't playing GTAV though until he's older. Or D3.
My dream is to play a Xenoblade game with a combat system similar to Zelda or Final Fantasy XV, more action oriented but with the monado thing and states.
I really think that the combat system is what holds the Xenoblade games from being popular and accessible to everyone. Even moving into the moba like gameplay for combats would be better.
@PanurgeJr - I'm glad it's not just me!
I slogged on because I wanted to see how the story panned out, but reached yet another point where I could cope with most things I encountered in the field to being wiped out by the next boss, and just can't be bothered to grind to level up again.
I can't wait. One of my favorite franchises.
@rjejr EA published Amalur, and there was a big stink about its DLC, IIRC. I bought the game for my PS3 (I was in my early 20s and I had plenty of spare cash and all of the major consoles) and thought it was very enjoyable.
As for Schilling, I'm a big Phillies fan, and liked him when he was on their pitching staff, but that was before I knew more about him. As time wore on, I became okay with the idea of a Schilling-less Phillies organization. That, and post-Schilling, the Phils won a WS.
I hope they do a Direct for XC2, as well. The first game was one of my favorite Wii titles.
@IronMan28 Ah 20's, pre-kids, buying all the games and consoles I want w/o a thought, living cheaply in sin.
DLC is a bit nuts. It's still about $60 I think on PSN now - a few $5 bits and a couple of $10 pieces - for a game I spent probably $10 on. I know it was happening back then but I'm guessing there was more of an uproar. The freaking Destiny 2 season pass is $35 and I haven't read 1 negative thing about that, it's just standard today.
XC is 1 of, if not the, best JRPG I've ever played, and I've been playing them since 1997 and I'm a bonafide FF7 fanboi. I'm glad 2 is looking more like 1 than XCX, which I found to be only ok as a JRPG. Then I played FFXV and thought XCX was much better.
