Switch has had an amazing first year, with some brilliant games in the form of Splatoon 2, ARMS, Breath of the Wild and, of course, Super Mario Odyssey.
The future is looking a bit bare at present, though - Nintendo is clearly working on key titles but hasn't revealed them yet - with the exception of Metroid Prime 4, which we might not see for a while, and the console's mainline Pokémon outing.
However, in an interview with TIME, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime may have let slip one of Switch's big forthcoming unconfirmed titles:
https://twitter.com/KremlingForce/status/925733658257952768
Of course, people could be reading something in nothing - perhaps Reggie just picked the name Donkey Kong alongside Metroid (already confirmed, remember) out of the air at random to make his point - or (and this is the version of the story we prefer to believe) he said Donkey Kong by accident because (deep breath) Nintendo is working on a new game in the Donkey Kong Country series; a sequel to Tropical Freeze, perhaps? We still don't know what Retro Studios is working on, after all...
What do you think? Has Reggie subconsciously dropped a bombshell, or not? Destroy our dreams gently with a comment below.

Either that or he called out an easily recognizable name just for the sake of answering the question.
Maybe DK is the new Retro game then, hopefully a Tropical Freeze sequel.
Definitely just pulled it out of the air at random to make his point
Really hope Retro is not working on that if it's true! They really need to move on to bigger things.
Lol you are reading into it too much.
Would absolutely love a new DKC. Tropical Freeze was one of my favorite games on Wii U. Would also love a game akin to DK64.
Any Retro Studios DK game will be fine for me, but I hope it is more similar to Country Returns than to Tropical Freeze because overall I prefer Country Returns. I really want a new DK game anyway and since Retro made the previous ones that good I hope it's made by them once again
I mean it’s Reggie. He also said the switch wouldn’t have friend codes so...
He could probably plausibly claim that he was just referring to the Donkey Kong homage in Mario Odyssey's New Donk City.
Seems reasonable to expect that they are probably working on a Donkey Kong game too, though.
Eh. It's Donkey Kong.
A Donkey Kong game will surely come to Switch. The only question is when so he didn't actually reveal anything new. It's like saying a new mario kart will come to Nintendo's next console.
It’s probably nothing, I would like a new Donkey Kong game similar to DK 64 though.
Nintendo is definitely working on Donkey Kong game but also you are definitely reading too much into what Reggie has said... I doubt it's even a hint, probably just a title which came to him mind first
I'm going with an example. It's pretty much a given, at some point, we'll get a DK game. It would be stupid to not put a DK game on Switch.
It makes sense that a salesman like Reggie would think very highly of DK and have it at the forefront of his brain. DKCR on Wii was a mega seller and the brand is synonymous with videogames.
I don't think Retro will be making another 2d DKC game though.
A collection of the first 2 would be very, very welcome but with Yoshi and Kirby already announced for 2018 I can't see Nintendo putting that out next year either.
Whoopsie Daisy...
That was entirely intentional, as it's everything Reggie says. Let the hype train leave the station!
As long as David Genius is doing the soundtrack for the next Donkey Kong game, I have no complaints.
God, please let Retro Studios not be working on yet another 2D Donkey Kong game. I think people are reading way to much into it.
Really want Retro to be working on their own unique IP. Definitely feel they’ve earned the chance
What about a Donkey Kong Country collection for the Switch? I would love to play returns and tropical freeze in HD on the go. PLEASE REGGIE!
A Donkey Kong 64 reboot would be fantastic! Or a new 3D experience!
@StuTwo Well year 1's focus was online multiplayer games, year 2's focus could be platformers.
My dude, if there's confirmation of a Donkey Kong Country game coming next year, your boy may just start squealing for a few minutes.
If that's a 3D Donkey Kong, then, I can't even start to fathom what my reaction would be.
I'd prefer if Retro was working on something else. Unless of course it's a 3D Donkey Kong.
If we get Kirby, Yoshi, DKC, and a 2D Mario in the same year....
It would be more surprising if Nintendo weren't working on a new Donkey Kong to be honest.
@Evenmoresteven would the donkey kong land series be included?
Tropical Freeze was excellent, so here's hoping
3D DK game by Retro Studios
Tropical Freeze became my favourite game in the last 10 years. Even a port to Switch would be a good idea.
I really hope Retro Studios is making a new 2D DKC game. Tropical Freeze was amazing! David Wise has to do the music! Perfection!
Well...Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokémon and Fire Emblem. Maybe DK. Then what we'll get after 2019? F-Zero? Kid Icarus? Calm down Nintendo!
Not bombshell, a donkey Kong game is inevitable.
Some of the levels in tropical freeze were absolutely punishing. So hard. Must admit I’d pretty much like to see any other sleeping Nintendo IP over this one. Give me a kid Icarus, a f-zero, a punch-out, an eternal darkness or a Luigi mansion first
Yes time to bring in Donkey Kong Country 6, I enjoy all the DKC games (except the Wii version of DKC4 due to motion control) so this would be exciting for me. Also a 3D Donkey Kong game like DK64 would be awesome too just as long as it isn't a full blown collect-a-thon like Yooka-Lately (why this game still late Playtonic).
I'm praying it's Donkey Kong Country. I love this franchise to death, it's my favorite platformer. Tropical Freeze was so damn good.
@Grumblevolcano Those are very different things. One stretches across different genres and is rather varied. The other is a specific genre, and the same genre that people criticized Nintendo for focusing on too much during the Wii U era.
If Nintendo launches four 2D platformers next year, there's going to be backlash.
Remember his stupid Metroid pin and the Cranky Kong incident years ago?
Nah.
Besides, I hope the new Retro game is not Donkey Kong.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE: Retro Studios gave us the best 2D-Platformer. I don't see a problem here.
@G0dlike: Retro Studios was working on their on IPs in GameCube times, Ravenblade, I think. However, in my opinion, they reinvented Nintendo's great IPs in the best way.
Well donkey kong was released before the mario franchise and featured an early version of mario (named "jump man") and is probably more iconic. so i recon donkey kong is coming to the switch at some point the question is when?
@Grumblevolcano
I'd love it (love 2d platformers and the new DKC are some of the best ever made) but it would be the stupidest mistake in Nintendo's history on so many levels to put out 3 big ones in the Switch's second year. If nothing else they'd be competing directly against each other.
He’s totally giving an arbitrary and easily recognised example, but it’s inevitable that DK will swing along at some point.
But haven’t Retro said a hundred times that they’re not doing a third one, they want to focus on a new IP of their own next?
I still think Retro Studios could be working on the new Metroid... there is a decent amount of evidence pointing to that being the case (the type of staff they've been hiring, the composer they've been confirmed to be working with, etc.), and most of the statements that make people think otherwise are extremely vague and usually dodge around giving a definitive answer, making it seem like they're intentionally trying to mislead us.
@ExoticSquidy32 well I was really only referring to Returns (Wii) and Tropical Freeze (Wii U).
Honestly a DKCR and DKC:TF double pack is a no-brainer.
I'm guessing Fire Emblem will be next year.
I'd leave it lay Reggie is one of the better PR guys I've seen. He usually doesn't have to backtrack or cover up his statements.
That being said I would love a new donkey kong.
I mean, what is retro studios working on?!
I certainly hope so! DKC are great platfomers. I still go back and play the original once a year if not more.
Hopefully this is a fact. Havent really played a DKC game since the SNES days but certaintly was one of my favorites.
How about 'Donkey Kong's Odyssey'. That'd be dope.
@StuTwo Four with 2D Mario.
It would be beyond stupid of them to do that. To the point that it could actually have a negative effect on the Switch's momentum.
It'll be Donkey Kong Odyssey. That'll be the formula for everything for a while now. Started with BotW and will move on through their franchises for a while.
Makes sense that DK would be next, but doesn't look like a slipup.
It could be true or it could just be naming a popular IP. Despite popular belief Reggie has given clues before as to what's coming to Nintendo platforms. He mentioned in an interview with EGM how Twilight Princess could work on the Wii before it was officially announced. He also mentioned a September surprise on the Wii Shop and then by the end on the month we got the Lost Levels and the first official western release of Sin & Punishment. I don't know what he's done lately though, if anything.
More DK please. The last two were great games. I wouldnt mind another one similar to those. New stuff is also welcome. I would like to see something like botw. Swinging from tree to tree is a must.
And dont forget david wise. I think he is essential.
@Menchi187
I'd LOVE to see a revised take on a 3D Donkey Kong game that improves upon DK64.
I hope Retro is making another Donkey Kong game as the Donkey Kong are very good games.
I wouldn't be surprised if Retro is actually working on 2 games because of how long it has been since their last game.
It's Reggie, so no, he didn't leak anything. Nobody tells him anything, so even if somebody was working on it he probably wouldn't know.
Somebody ask him were Pikmin 5 is. You know, the game that was nearly compelte in July 2016.
If somebody is making one though, really hope it's 3D, next year already has Kirby and Yoshi. And probably Yooka-Laylee, unless somebody here thinks it will magically release in the next 60 days.
Considering the audience it was meant as an easily name and recognized IP, that also has a history of re-invention...drum games, puzzle platformers, CGI looking 90s platformers, etc. There's about zero chance there isn't a DK game in development. I mean, even Kirby is far less known than Donkey Kong in the general public.
I don't think Reggie ever slips.
Probably pulled it out of the air. I doubt Retro has been spending the past several years on another Donkey Kong.
A Tropical Freeze port should still be on the card though.
If there is a new DK in the works, I imagine it would be tied to New Donk City and probably follow more of a DK64 vibe.
I would love that over another sidescroller following Tropical Freeze.
I bet Retro Studios is working on a DK title. Sure hope it’s a 3D one in the vein of DK64.
Interestingly, there's some people who want even more Open World Sandox-type of games. I get it, people like open games, but we just had two of them, do we need a Sandox type of game for every Nintendo franchise all at once? Really?
I remember when Tropical Freeze was released everyone was mad, because they wanted Retro to make Metroid. Well, Metroid is in development, I honestly have no clue what Retro is working on, but I'm pretty sure if Retro makes another DKC 2D platformer there's a fair share of people who'd hate on it - even though Retro is not even involved in Prime 4.
Personally, I've just had one amazing Open World Zelda earlier this year, an amazing open Sandox Mario last week and in all honesty I seriously need a change and get me some nice tight 2D platforming. Unlike Yoshi or Kirby, DKC actually offers something that's lost in a lot of Nintendop franchises: difficulty. I just love a great 2D platformer with a bite to it and DKC delivers on that front. Sure, I can get by on Super Meat Boy, but I love me some good old DK any day.
I do hope Retro is working on something else. I love that Nintendo had all these great 1st-party games this year, and none of them was another 2D platformer. With Yoshi and Kirby forthcoming, and certainly some kind of 2D Mario game being in the pipeline as well, I don't feel any particular need for another 2D DK game.
A 3D game in the vein of Odyssey might be a different story, but even at that, I'd much prefer something else entirely. Metroid Prime 4 is mainly exciting because Nintendo does so rarely stray into the action/shooter or esp. FPS corner. I want them to hold course and keep getting out of their comfort zone as much as possible.
Nintendo moving into HD, Nintendo trying new things, like a competitive arena shooter, Nintendo giving new'ish talent a chance with their own projects, Nintendo breathing new life into old franchises (esp. niche ones like FE), Nintendo giving up some control on some of their IPs, like with the Koei-Tecmo- and Atlus-Cooperation projects (be it HW or GIR#FE ) ... that's really what made the last years of Nintendo exciting to me(after nearly having lost interest with the Wii), despite the commercial failure of the WiiU.
I don't mean to say that there shouldn't be any more 2D DK games, but again, the Switch will not lack these either way, esp. not with the strong apparent indie support in that regard, so why not - for the time being - focus on broadening the horizons, so to speak?
I could definitely go for another Donkey Kong title, one last game from Retro would be great. Make it a trilogy to match the SNES and GB ones. Maybe get a hold of Eveline Fischer of DKC3 fame to collaborate with David Wise for the soundtrack...
I don't think it was a game reveal.
Personally, while I'd be happy for another DKC, I think I'd rather they moved onto something else. Perhaps even a new 3D DK game. Whatever they do I'm sure it'll be great.
Definitely pulled it out of the air, but you knew that already. Still, worth a punt for making an article I guess.
I actually think it might have been a mistake, I think of it as wave one is done : Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, MarioKart, Arms, Xenoblade, Pokken and Kingdom Battle. Question is what is Wave 2: Metroid, Yoshi, Kirby, Pikmin?, Smash?, Donkeykong?
Then Wave 3 is clearly Pokemon as much as we want it as part of next year it will get delayed as it will be huge
Or he just said Donkey Kong but that doesn't make sense as he should have just Mario experience! He must know what is in development to some extent!
I certainly hope they’re doing something new with DK. The series has gotten really stale and it could use something different. And no, I’d rather not see another game like DK64, it was terrible and DK can do more than just copy Mario.
What I’d really like DK to do is add combat elements and become Nintendo’s God of War or Knack, they don’t really have a game like that in their library and it would be a great way to expand on DK’s gameplay identity.
What chance does donkey kong have coming to Switch?
Like 1... in 1?
No smoke without fire.
Reggie said before that the Switch would have Bluetooth headphones support as well. Was it true? No. Move on.
Btw I won't be surprised if we get a half hour GameXplain podcast talking about the possibilities of features in the DK game
Move along. Nothing to see here.
Too. Much. Speculation.
But I guess that's what you have to expect in the post-factual era we're living in...
Would absolutely love a new Donkey Kong game
This is a big stretch.
3D game please.
I love 2d Nintendo games but at this point I believe Nintendo Ian's all of us are ready to bring back the 3d platformer. If Reggie is truly hinting at a donkey kong switch, I imagine it will follow odysseys footsteps and be a new donkey kong 3d which I have been waiting on for years. A new 3d Kirby would be great as well followed by a kid Icarus platinum game reimagining just to put some icing on the cake.
i want a new DK game. I would love a new DK game
Maybe that's what Retro Studios is working on!
Talk about getting people too excited. I want Donkey Kong Country: Apes in the Wild. A co-op open world game (kind of like Breath of the Wild and Odyssey but co-op which is how we played Returns and Tropical Freeze)
I would be okay with another Donkey Kong Returns game but I doubt it was anything but a random mention of a Nintendo series used as an example.
The two Retro DK games were terrific. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't have the skill or patience to play them!!!
But I"m also a huge fan of their work on Metroid so I wouldn't mind Retro being behind Metroid Prime 4......or a brand new game!
@leo13 That would be a game worthy of Retro Studios real skills!!!
Hopefully they get Monolith Soft to help like they did with Breath of the Wild.
Yeah I think this is a case of reading too much into it... Not that I wouldn't love a new DK game though!
@Dev You mention New Donk City, Check out leo13's comment above
DK Tropical Freeze is in my opinion one of the most overlooked Wii U titles. Platforming perfection and a soundtrack that brings tears to my eyes. I would love to see it making its way to the Switch where it could find the appreciation that it deserves.
A new DK game however, would be even better. In 3D. With mltiple playable characters. An open world with lush jungles and abandoned factories on top of mountains. And vehicles, like mine carts and mini airplanes. And the option to grow your own bananas!!! Ok, I'm getting a little bit carried away.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE What's the problem? Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is excellent. Did you play it?
DKC 3D World. 3D world was a ton of fun, but just imagine it with the added difficulty of DKC games. I love the 2d platformers, but the next DK game needs to be different as Kirby and Yoshi are coming out with 2D platformers next year.
I'm pretty sure he's just talking about the recent Donkey Kong Country games. You can see that evolution with the main 5 in the series.
My favorite platformer of all time. But please don’t transform it to a open world-sandbox game.
I adore Returns and Tropical Freeze, but if there’s another DK platformer coming, please don’t put Retro on it. I wish they’d let Retro try their hand at another dormant IP or even something new, instead of pigeonholing them into working on nothing but Metroid and Donkey Kong for 16 years.
I think people are reading a bit much in to it. I mean, Reggie could be talking in general that Nintendo likes to think outside the box with all of their IP and used Metroid and DK as past examples. He wasn't specifically talking about the Switch so the Metroid comment could have been about the Prime series as a whole (which was revolutionary after the likes of 2D Metroid games, or even Other M) and that the new Donkey Kong Country games on Wii and Wii U were different but so was the Wii era Donkey Kong game with those bongos as control input. He wasn't mentioning a specific Donkey Kong game. So yeah I'm pretty sure people are just reading more in to this than what Reggie meant.
Don't forget the Fire Emblem game coming next year!
A DK game is pretty likely to be honest, same if he said Kirby, Smash, Etc... now, if he said F-Zero or Golden Sun, then you'd have some real news!
I just hope it doesn't mean that Retro is working on another sidescrolling DK-game.
No he didn't.
He's just name dropping.
Though Retro might really be making a third DK game.
Now that we know a new Metroid Prime is being developed, I wouldn't mind a third DKC from Retro. TF is the best platformer I've ever played.
@Spoony_Tech Bigger things? Don't act like the Retro DK games weren't some of the absolute best 2D platformers ever created!
Honestly with their current practices with lootgrabs I could give less [removed] if they did more games on the Switch.
@Jokerwolf Mind your language - Octane
I really want Retro to do a new IP for Nintendo; a mature title at one.
Please be Donkey Kong Country! Tropical Freeze needs a sequel to complete the modern DKC trilogy.
(Normally I would hope that Retro would be working on Prime 4 but I already know that's being handled by other people.)
Oh God, twitter reacting over nothing again...
While I don't find it surprising that there may be a DK game in the works, I think I'll file that comment from Reggie into the "We're reading too much into this" category for now.
I would bite his hand off for a new Donkey Kong Country on Switch. I've absolutely loved the last two. Grassland Groove on DKTF on Wii U was one of my favorite levels of any game ever... but I do think we're reading too much into it.
That picture chosen for this article. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
He doesn't mean anything special, but this is the perfect excuse for making wishes (and NL articles). I would like Retro to make Metroid Prime 4 at the moment but I think that the game is being developed by somebody else. Tropical Freeze was pretty good, much better than Returns in my opinion, the original trilogy is best anyway, but I'd like Retro (or another studio) to make a 3D Donkey Kong game that is more challenging than Super Mario Odyssey.
Donkey Kong... big? Yeah, it's what put Nintendo on the map as a game developer, but it hasn't exactly been at the forefront the past couple generations.
DK Switch would be AMAZING.
DK Switch will be 3D no doubt when it comes...
"Or are we just reading way too much into this?"
You're reading way too much into this.
@Spoony_Tech Retro are some of the few developers still able to created amazing 2D games. So I don't understand why you would want them to stop doing what they do best.
DK64 sequel with over a dozen Kongs, each with their own collectibles in each world!
...not really but I'd still like some sort of sequel, perhaps add co-op even, you have enough Kongs for a full party!
@ShadJV It's time for Dixie to come back!
I'm still waiting on a DK64 sequel. Despite that games shortcomings, it still was a lot of fun and has the potential to be something great. Trim off some of the fat (multiple Kongs for example) and reduce the scope a bit. If it is more Banjo-Kazooie and less Banjo-Tooie, I think they could have another fun 3D platformer.
Also Kremlings.
I'd love another DKC. One more Retro made DK and we might honestly have a trilogy better than the original. Especially if they paid homage to it by bringing back the Kremlings.
If Retro (or another company) is doing another dkc, then at least bring the Kremlins and animal buddies back. But I rather would have a totally new free-roaming 3D DKC!
Well a new Donkey Kong is pretty much inevitable. And we don't know what Retro is working on, we just know it isn't Metroid Prime 4 (which I actually think is for the best). So it could make sense that it's due soon.
i would prefer if it was something like a sequal to donkey kong country 64 like with what they have done with super mario odyssey to super mario 64.
I'd welcome a completely new 2D DK as I think that's where it shines best. I was never a big fan of DK64 outside of the rap. TF was an amazing platforming experience.
@Cheski I agree, make a DK game like Banjo-Kazooie but not as tedious as DK64 where you had to collect items with each Kong and without the complex duality of Banjo-Tooie. And Kremlings! And animal buddies!
Reading too much into if, for sure. He’s just comparing and contrasting disparate franchises.
However I hope Retro is working on something that’s not a Tropical Freeze sequel - what he said is contrary to what they’re doing with DK. I’m sort of a bit jaded by the DK series at this point. At least do a 3D iteration this time
Well, the odds on them not making another Donkey Kong game are slim, regardless of whether they're currently working on one for Switch or not.
2018: pikmin, Pokemon, metroid, diddy Kong racing, payday 2, wolfenstien. Shin megami, fire emblem.....so far confirmed.
Possible smash port (hence the GC adapter compatibility)
@CrazedCavalier Donkey Kong Country Returns sold more than 6 million copies. It was big by any standards.
Donkey Kong is very plausible, I could see Retro working on this. As long as it's been since Tropical Freeze, though, I can't help but think they are working on something else, too.
I'd say this is the pure definition of "reading too much into it".
He just said some franchises for once and a new Donkey Kong is very likely to happen anyway, so no matter how you look at it there are no actual information in his statement about a new Donkey Kong.
I reckon DK was mentioned in a throwaway manner, the first thing that came into his head. For a long time I put off trying out Tropical Freeze because I wasn't sure I really wanted to play a platformer, but my friend had it so I borrowed it and wow that is a fantastic game. Tough but so good...
Cranky Kong confirmed.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if an entry in the vein of DK 64 happened. There is a wealth of potential to be seized on; including the various characters with special abilities, and the focus on exploration that has already been established with BoTW and Odyssey.
DK 64 was criticised for being a collectathon even upon release, but it was also universally praised for the variety of challenges and activities that you could participate in, and to this day is why fans have so many different memories of the game.
Country, Country Returns and Tropical Freeze are all excellent in their own right, but as with many Wii U titles, Nintendo would benefit more from porting Tropical Freeze, and therefore introducing the game to new customers.
I would personally prefer to have Tropical Freeze released on a system where it actually has a fighting chance, but a sequel would be cool, too.
A Donkey Kong title is coming (possibly) on the Switch...i'm shocked! Nintendo continues to surprise us anytime! Whats next? Kirby?
I would love a new Donkey Kong.
but I would love it even more if Nintendo brought more cross over games lol, something crazy like mario + Rabbids, i would love to see a Mario + Donkeykong crossover. Lol just thinking out loud.
Eh, maybe. I'd be up for a 3rd DKCR game.
It would be silly for anyone to think a DK game is NOT in the works...
I want to see a new DKC game, but with claymation style graphics, kinda how the original Snes games looked. I feel they could nail it now that the tech is there. Also no jetpack nonsense, talk about cheesing it!
Would be alright with another donkey kong game to be honest.
I guess he still not played Splatoon 2.
while it wouldn't surprise me, he could be referencing the fact that Retro has worked on both series in the past.
i highly doubt that retro has been working on a new DK game for the last FOUR years. at least not on a 2D one. maybe 3D?
Aaaaaaaaggghhhhhhhh finish the sequel! I will die happy! Bring David Wise!
I'm always hopeful, but that doesn't sound like a leak.
I don't like the way that the controls feel in any of the 2D DK games.
Let me just say, as a guy with a DKC avatar, that I love how much praise for Tropical Freeze there is in this comment section, and how many people would seemingly be okay with Retro working on a new game in the franchise. I felt like I was the only one cheering back when Tropical Freeze was actually announced.
@Ichiban Claymation would be freaking awesome for the franchise. It would give it a different, unique look just like what happened with the original DKC. I think the graphics on Tropical Freeze are great, but high-definition cartoonish CG is how every similar game seems to look like these days.
Poor Reggie gets fed scraps from Japan HQ. He’s probably in the dark nearly as much as we are. He must know what Retro is working on because they’re American and he’s signed it off but he’s stumbling around in the dark with the rest of us when it comes to first party content.
There will be a DK sometime during the Switch's life, no doubt. When or what it will be like we have no idea. This doesn't seem like a leak to me at all though, it just seems like Reggie was saying how the DK games are all different and making his point.
I'm pretty sure a Donkey Kong Country game will come to the Switch, but not in 2018 (and probably not in 2019 either). There's no way Reggie was specifically teasing a DK game with his comments.
Tropical Freeze was amazing so yes please haha.
ACA Donkey Kong mates.
@Spoony_Tech Retro needs to revisit a couple of cancelled games they were working on for GCN. Raven Blade & NFL Retro Football. Even that car-combat game they were working on called Thunder Rally would be awesome.
@Nintendoforlife, as it always happens with first comments, nailed it.
But I wouldn't mind a DK on Swtich...
I'd much rather Retro make a new Diddy Kong Racing than another DKC.
If the game Retro is making is a new Donkey Kong game in the vein of Country, 64, or Diddy Kong Racing, my 2018 for gaming will be made.
how about Donkey Kong 3d world. 4 player donkey Kong with cranky, Diddy, Dixie, donkey. Let's nintendo reuse the 3d world engine and perhaps retro could make something memorable.
How about Donkey Kong 3d world? 4player donkey Kong could be different
People at grasping at straws with that comment.
I'm hoping as seeing that Nintendo might be getting their rights back with their arcade machines. There might be a Donkey Kong 4 in the works! Like a PacMan Championship Edition of Donkey Kong!
One can only wish!
The new game will be a city builder and business management sim called New Donk Sim City.
I think you're over-analyzing his words a bit. Did he sneeze during the interview? That could indicate a Dr. Mario update.
@Spoony_Tech I agree. Would love to see a Retro original IP
If Retro is working on a new Donkey Kong, I hope it's more like DK64.
I don’t like how you omitted the mainline Fire Emblem game, the Kirby game, and (to a lesser extent) the Yoshi game when talking about confirmed Nintendo games for the Switch coming in 2018.
@LuckyLand me too! DKCR was pure nostalgia!
Seems like an over-reaction to his comments, but I love the DKC series so much, I would happily take another!
It just feels like a throwaway example. However, having said that, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a new DKC title for the Switch, the last 2 systems have received DKC games, it seems like a fair bet at this point that Nintendo may be pushing to have one new DKC game per generation at this point.
Though we DO know Retro is working on their own original IP.
@Spoony_Tech It's definitely not Retro. I thought I read on this site a confirmation that they're making a new IP.
I'm all for more first party games. The more the better. But i really don't wan't my animal crossing experience to be a smartphone game.
Reggie looks like Donkey Kong from New Dong City. 🦍
He's referring to Donkey Kong Rabbids, which is coming out after Tropical Freeze 3D Land.
I wish Nintendo would come out and say they are going to rerelease some of the high rated Wii and Wii U games they release MarioKart quick and easy so why not some of the other games
I would love another Jungle Beat game (my fave DK game tbh)
Donkey Kong Tropical Freezer Deluxe. Woooowww
Oh come on, it's one of those series that is bound to hit the Switch sooner or later.
@Dan_Dan well I'd be shocked if the Switch doesn't get an Animal Crossing title.
I'd rather have Animal Crossing than another DK with poor sales that doesn't really help Nintendo in any way.
How about skipping Metroid and Donkey Kong for a while and focus on franchises like Mother, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, Wario Ware, Advane Wars and F-Zero
Too many 2D platform games
@BigKing do you think anyone would really buy a Wave Race nowadays?
I'm with you on skipping DK, but a full blown FPS Metroid game? Why wouldn't anyone want that? haha
There was more than Metroid 4 announced...they also showed Yoshi and Kirby. However, I don't find a reference to an upcoming Donkey Kong game being released, it's just throwing a name out, but in all honesty, every time this site seems to mention a game coming out, they must know, because then it's announced. That being said, it would be nice to see what other games nintendo has up their sleeves for this coming year, and also to see the Switch's RETAIL scene grow more and more...as long as it's not all 'download-only' like what happened on the Wii U, where the retail section of that system looked horrible in games available...this is what drove many parents away from that system. With the Switch's growing, and the popularity of the system and the fading out (finally) of the Wii and what seems to be a small fading out of the 3DS (it's starting to look bare over here, with even gaming stores just putting on a small shelf away from console releases anymore), the stores are giving the system a chance and showing it off! That's a good thing, as I'm finally starting to get back into a nintendo system (Hated the Wii U and the original Wii and 3DS and even the DS felt boring to me...however, I loved the Gamecube and the original Advance systems). I'd rather see them call out a new Animal Crossing for 2018, but I also don't want to see them call out games that won't come out for 2018. A new Pikmin, Animal Crossing, F-Zero, Punch Out, Mario Golf, Mario Super Sluggers, Paper Mario (granted we just got one for Wii U...even so, bring that one over to the Switch) and I could even go for some of their older franchises (Faxanandu, Startropics, Kid Icarius or more) and one thing that I wish that they would do...add the virtual console library to the E-Shop finally and also, bring out some NES, Super NES, N64 and Gamecube retail collections!!!!! I'd re-purchase a Zelda, Mario, Kirby or even Metroid collections again!!!!
@Spoony_Tech I loved "Tropical Freeze", but I agree. I was actually hoping Nintendo was talking about Retro when they said to expect more than just traditional IP in 2018.
Maybe Microsoft will see Rare as useless and Nintendo could buy them back.
Yeah, probably reading too much into it. However, I wouldn't be surprised if a new DK title is in the works/future plans. Another 2D title would be great but something like Odyssey sounds better IMO.
No way! A Donkey Kong Game on a Nintendo Console? Who would have guessed?
YES!! DONKEY KONG IS MY FAVORITE VIDEO GAME CHARACTER AND HE REALLY DESERVES ANOTHER GAME AFTER HOW MAJESTIC TROPICAL FREEZE IS! DO IT!!
And consider porting Tropical Freeze to Switch so it can get the attention it deserves.
@sjredo Donkey Kong Country is the 2nd best selling game on the SNES, and Returns sold 6 million units. Tropical Freeze was in a struggling console, but the Donkey Kong franchise does make Nintendo a lot of money. Not to mention the original Donkey Kong arcade is where Mario first debuted.
@Spoony_Tech If you don't think Tropical Freeze is ambitious and big, then you clearly haven't played the game yet.
@Donkey-Kong-Fan I love DKC/R far more then 2d Mario and I own or have at one point every game. I would love another game in the series just not from Retro.
DK is so dsmn good in all its toughness! Would be really awesome if it were true!
@Nintendoforlife he slipped because he was pissed because he couldn't make minecraft 2
