Re: Two Brand New Fire Emblem Warriors Characters Get Revealed, As Well As Marth

What we all feared.
IS just cares about the lowest common denominator at this point. Thought they'd learn from TMS.

Eh, between MHXX, XC2, FESwitch, and this all potentially coming out within less than a year there seemed to be too many Switch games to hold my interest. Glad I can dump one off the list.

EDIT: Also, this wonderful hypocrisy:
"The reason for this is because if you put a bunch of protagonists together then it’ll be nothing but sword-wielding characters."
And then they add two generic-looking sword wielding OCs.
Would it kill you guys to be honest?

Re: Capcom Unleashes Debut Trailer and Details on Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch

CrazedCavalier

@Dakt The whole scale of the rumor feels out of wack. Somebody was playing WoW with their dev friend who spilled the beans on all of this hours before the MHXX announcement.

If it's not a fluke, then the dev friend made up a bunch of stuff for shiggles-- the whole thing sounds like Sony shooting themselves in the foot and Nintendo still "winning" in the end. It makes no sense.

Re: Capcom Unleashes Debut Trailer and Details on Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch

CrazedCavalier

@Ernest_The_Crab It sold 4U numbers in both Japan and the West (about 2.5 million and 1 million). MHXX is the one that sold a bit under 1.5 million (under the 2 million target) at launch in Japan, which can be pinned on 4th gen fatigue and the Switch coming out around the same time.
Styles and arts have received near-universal praise-- which is something the devs have commented on. There's a few purists who don't want any changes whatsoever, but most fans are fine with their inclusion and would just want a bit more polish in the future.

@Dakt The Switch version is coming out half a year later-- that's hardly "launch window". It's still an incredibly safe prediction from an anonymous 4chan user.
You're grasping at straws.

Re: Capcom Unleashes Debut Trailer and Details on Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch

CrazedCavalier

@Luna_110 Actually, the rumor has it that Sony paid off Capcom to make a westernized version of the series, call it "Monster Hunter 5", and put it on PS4-- while the Switch keeps the traditional games.
It's a lose-lose situation for Sony either way.

@Dakt The 4chan rumor states both, I believe. It predicted MHXX by name (its only claim to credibility) and said there'd be a Switch port at launch (which didn't happen and a Switch port is a safe prediction), with the rest I detailed above.
It has no traction.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing Monster Hunter XX to the Switch

CrazedCavalier

@SwitchVogel Switch + 3DS in early 2018 in the West, a la 3U's multi-release.
Calling it now.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Actually, it was just an upscaled version of the 3DS one (as there was a year's release difference in Japan)-- Tri still has several particle effects and even a higher framerate (3U on Wii U ran only at about 40 something FPS because Capcom wanted consistent 1080p).

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

CrazedCavalier

@ThatNyteDaez Solid Mario Odyssey details, more unannounced stuff, Xenoblade 2 and FEWarriors,... .
Not sure why people are acting like this leaking ruins all the surprise of Nintendo's E3.

@VIIIAxel It's an internal presentation likely cobbled together by Ubisoft (a French company).
But keep telling yourself it's fake. Honestly, why do people never learn?

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

CrazedCavalier

@AlexSora89 Rayman doesn't have the broad appeal. The Rabbids have got an ongoing cartoon series (in its 3rd season) and the Raving Rabbids games were pretty successful.
Not enough people realize this.

@PlywoodStick See above for the Rabbids.
As for the "guns", they look like ray guns. Which Mario is more than acquainted with from Smash. Either Miyamoto signed off on it or Nintendo finally (and thankfully) stopped listening to him.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Is Only 20 To 30 Percent Complete

CrazedCavalier

@RupeeClock I mean, there's still pre-development stuff fully out of the way. Games can be announced at the start of the year "20%-30% done" and release just fine close to the end of the next year. If this is targeting a Fall/Winter 2018 release, then I don't think there's much to worry about.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Because they knew there would demand for it and weren't privy to the Switch yet.

Re: "No Plans" For Destiny 2 On Switch, Says Project Lead Who Loves Nintendo's Console

CrazedCavalier

@Nik-Davies The first one actually has a lot of content right now and is the best it's been.
The problem was the lack of content at launch and the bland single-player. From the preview event, they've made many QOL changes and the single player is greatly stepped up.
Really, it seemed like the first one was just too big in scope for what they could do with last gen consoles + finnicky game engine. The 2nd one looks like it's what the first one should've been.

@olrodlegacy The game just left behind last-gen consoles-- they wouldn't compromise like this again.

Also, how many of you would actually consider buying it on Switch? I'm predicting: almost none.

Re: Video: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Season Pass Gets Its Own Trailer

CrazedCavalier

@rjejr It's different development studios at Nintendo. Sakurai wasn't initially planning any for Smash, but then it was decided to cash in on the demand for Mewtwo and it kinda spiraled from there.

That said, IS was the first Nintendo-owned studio to release DLC (back with Awakening) and it's mostly just overpriced fluff here. Not supporting any of it, but it's low-effort stuff that mostly just breaks the game.

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th May (North America)

CrazedCavalier

SoV just shipped for me. Going to be nice to finally have the game and see how it is for myself.
FYI, don't play Hard Mode on your first run through. It's apparently a slog, even if you do everything optimally.

And speaking of "optimal", the best classes for the villagers are Grey = Merc, Tobin = Mage, Kliff = Archer, and Faye = Priestess. Their worst are Grey = everything else, Tobin = soldier, Kliff = mage, and Faye = Pegasus Knight.

Gray's just made to Merc, really.
Tobin learning excalibur early makes him a better mage than Kliff who learns it 3 levels latter than in Gaiden and is the only character in the game to have had a nerfed growth (-15% to HP) and no buffs in the department either, on top of buffed enemy stats on Hard making his 2 base speed virtually insurmountable (double attacks happen with a difference of one speed). Archer, meanwhile, actually penalizes speed growth and Tobin's 6 base speed only has a 15% growth backing it in the class, with Kliff's 50% growth in the class being most atypical of archers and his 8 base res allowing him to go head-to-head with mages.
Faye learns physic very early, allowing the pressure to be taken off of Silque. PK has some niche use early on, but Clair pretty much outclasses her in every regard as soon as she joins.

Sorry for the min-FAQ in the comments; just really looking forward to the game.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@R_Champ I made one comment poking at their praise of an oft-criticized feature and called out a factually incorrect statement-- besides that I've just been posting as normal.
For the record, I am excited for the game-- I just know what to expect and wish the gaming press wouldn't overrate things.
An earlier comment of mine:
"Everything looks great besides the maps; unlike some people, one negative isn't enough to drown out my hype."

@Onion My first post in that chain:
"FE7 - 12 (well, Radiant Dawn ties it) are easier than Conquest. FE1 and Gaiden can be broken into tiny pieces. FE4 isn't much better. And FE3 is pretty straightforward. Please, just stop."

You were trying to make an impossible argument that other people even called you out on, but you kept going in a circle. The one and only time I used "pathetic" was at the end of my fourth comment, criticizing your statement that "even people who've never played strategy games can beat Conquest on Hard/Classic while the same can't be said for FE7". I then quoted your insult back at you verbatim before leaving it be. Anybody can check my comment history or the comments on the article to see for themselves: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/03/video_nintendos_fire_emblem_echoes_overview_shows_how_it_shakes_up_the_formula

You are so hung up on vilifying me you're making up stuff. Seriously, I probably wouldn't have said a thing this time around if you didn't feel the need to bring that mess up again to try and insult me. And yet here you do it.

@Shiryu Forever he will be my hero
(Better believe he knows the way)
And not just only for tonight

And now that I'm not just a dreamer
(And I know I got what he's got)
And not just only for tonight

I've got power
I'm gonna fight to win
I'm gonna fight to the end

Even I can feel the power
When I think of you
I see no fear, feel no pain

(His GX theme is so awesomely cheesy)

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@Onion Don't play high and mighty with me. And I could easily turn around basically everything you said.
Our previous argument was stupid. You started that stupid. And you're the one who felt like initiating potshots again-- I defended and explained myself and the situation. The person who can't let things go and has to get off insults is yourself.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@Onion You were claiming that Conquest was easier than most games in the series. I gave factual evidence that FE7 was easier than it after stating it's harder than the majority of the series.

You put up walls of text accusing me of "spreading falsehoods" and "not being good at games", and then saying I was "in denial" and "trying to make an impossible argument". While also claiming "Even people who aren't good at strategy games can beat Conquest on Hard/Classic, while the same can't be said for FE7".

All I've done is call out the reviewer's praise of an oft-mocked and criticized feature of the game and a factually incorrect statement.
I tried to have a legitimate conversation and argument at one point with you there. You put up paragraphs of text that said mostly nothing other than insults directed my way. I'm fine with the opinions of others as long as they themselves are tolerable/tolerate other opinions. In no way, shape, or form was I "foaming at the mouth"-- though at one point I did bemoan the gaming press's lack of critical thinking when it came to reviews.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@Arngrim Most of Awakening's features were taken from Gaiden, notably bad map design and grinding (which can be pretty much ignored on Normal but is mandatory on Hard).

Though personally, I'd have liked a fuller remake that kept the basics of Gaiden intact while overhauling the maps and using Fates' pair-up system. As-is the gameplay is somewhat lacking in depth, mostly just nerfing what was good in Gaiden and introducing a handful of broken skills to the mix.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@NEStalgia They've hinted that they're open to more remakes if this does well enough. And Heroes is at least giving Elibe some exposure.
Really, I'm mostly fine with Fates-- I just think there's stuff that needs to be called out and most nobody does it.

@The_Gerudo_King I'm not saying that, nor am I ashamed of most of what I've posted here: reviews by gaming journalists are often terrible.
Virtually nobody called out Fates' bad writing. Virtually nobody called out Awakening's awful design and balance issues. SoV getting rosey reviews like this that don't call out its issues means IS will think it's OK to do remakes that barely tweak dated gameplay elements.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@PlywoodStick No, they didn't change it. It's just that most of it was in the manual.
In the original, they lived as children in Ram Village until Mycen took Celica before the events of the game to Novus Monastery, where she stayed until her story started. It's the exact same deal here, with a prologue chapter explicitly showing the events.

They still go their separate ways after an initially happy reunion at Zofia Castle. If anything, the story gets more "complex" with a new villain character serving as a foil to Alm (Alm wants power to protect and serve the people, Berkut wants power to rule and control them)-- though that's all there is to his character --and battling some Zofians as well.

They also built on Jedah trapping Celica with the intent of sacrificing her to Duma, though in a rather... controversial manner. And Rudolf's motivations are kept intact, in all their glorious stupidity.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@MarcelRguez The prologue and post-game maps. Everything else is untouched.

Art and aesthetics, certainly. But as for the actual meat of the game, gameplay, it's anything but.

Though I'd like to clear things up and say that I am looking forward to the game. I just hate seeing the gaming press overrate stuff, as well as recent FE fans embarrass themselves.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

CrazedCavalier

@NandN3ds Hence why I said "You're better than this!"
Though I was off base, considering I hadn't looked at any other reviews at that point.

@MarcelRguez I haven't played it, but I've seen footage and read other people's impressions.
Not one of the maps were changed. Not one. The few new maps may as well be from Gaiden due to their consistent blandness and mediocrity. There's still maps that see repeated use.

Also, the quote in your post proves the review writers have no idea what they're talking about. Gaiden is the least traditional FE game there is and Awakening took much from it.
Sorry that I expect the modern gaming press to not be utterly stupid.
