Re: Best Nintendo Pinball Games

Bret

Put the Pokemon Pinball games on Switch Online PLEASE!

I want to beat my records of 1.6 billion on blue and 1.1 billion on red. That Red PB took so much damn effort, I remember grinding attempts away as a kid and getting 900 million so many times.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced In The November 2023 Nintendo Indie World Showcase

Bret

@Znake obligatory "this is an indie direct, obviously it wouldn't announce first party nintendo projects" comment aside... I wanna focus on "When I was a kid we had contra, then Ocarina, FFVII, God of War!!!! Some real fun games! If back then anyone announced a game where you groom animals, cook, or whatever thrash they allow these days, they would be buried alive and would never ever release another game."

You named games that came out in 1987, 1998, 1997, and 2005, for NES, N64, PS1, and PS2. That's a completely ridiculous comparison to make. You're looking at a presentation that focuses on indie games being released over the next few months for a single console and getting pissed that it isn't as good as a list of your favorite games from various consoles over a twenty year period. Get realistic.

And there WERE games where you groomed animals, cooked, etc. during these times. 100%. You just didn't know about them back then. The fact that more of what you call, uh, "thrash" is in your vision is just because it's easier to show it to you now than it was back in the day.

Re: Best WarioWare Games Of All Time

Bret

1. Touched: The best this game has ever felt. It's SO perfectly built for the DS. A lot of Warioware's best moments come from departing from button controls. 15/10.

2. Mega Party Game$: To me, Warioware is super fun, but where it truly thrives is in multiplayer. And the multiplayer has never been better than putting the original games into a competitive format. 15/10.

3. Smooth Moves: Held back only by finicky controls, the multiplayer in Smooth Moves is perfect. Throwing the wii remote across the room in that survival mode is just so stupid and perfect for the series. 14/10.

4. Move It: This is essentially a tie with Smooth Moves, but the multiplayer games that I've played haven't been as ridiculous, though I haven't convinced anyone to try that "for experts" mode yet. I'm assuming that's where the best competition lives. 14/10.

5. Get It Together: Multiplayer. This is the last of the games that really have it, and the competitive modes are great. Obscuring and messing with the screen as your opponents play is great, that was my favorite mode for sure. 12/10.

6. Twisted: There was no way this should have worked as well as it did. But somehow, rotating the system gave you way more versatility than you'd ever expect. Still, it really is just that one thing. 10/10.

7. Gold: I kind of bounced off this one, but it's really no fault of its own. The Rhythm Heaven treatment for Warioware made a lot of sense, but the Switch had been out for quite a while at this point. I had to search for my 3DS in a bunch of drawers just to play it. Good game, unfortunate environment for it. 10/10.

8. Original: A perfect debut, but it is truly bare bones. You can sit down with this game for a couple hours and experience everything it has to offer, and after that all you can do is beat your records. I will always love it for introducing me to my favorite game series, though. 10/10.

9. DIY: What does everyone see in this?! Someone please explain it to me. Everyone talks about it like it was so damn cool, but I never got it at all! Was the novelty of drawing stuff really such a huge sell for people? The games were so samey in my experience. Maybe I just didn't know where to find the good stuff, but this is the least fun I've had with Warioware, except... (oh, 8/10 btw)

10. Snapped: Glorified tech demo. 3/10. NEXT!

11. Game & Wario: This isn't even Warioware beyond the characters! No microgames, no deal. The frenetic pace is what I'm here for, and this game ain't got it. X/10, DISQUALIFIED!

Re: Risk Of Rain Returns Reinvigorates A Roguelite Classic, Out Now On Switch

Bret

Been playing this on PC, will definitely be doubling down for the Switch. I'm so happy this game has finally been modernized, it was hell to play multiplayer before. You had to go deep into computer settings and do stuff with ports and... blah, whatever, it's good now. And a ton of stuff added, including stuff that came from Risk of Rain 2! The sequel doesn't work too great on the Switch, you really need that keyboard and mouse input for most characters. But this? It'll be great. Can't wait to play it on the go.

Re: Surprise! Nintendo Is Officially Working On A Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Movie

Bret

@DennisReynolds The movie would be so beyond awkward if Link didn't talk at all. The games are already starting to feel that way with Zelda chatting away to a brick wall in the Switch games. Of course it wouldn't feel right for him to be a goofball Marvel superhero making quips and stuff, but I think he'll be fine as something more along the lines of a Tom Hardy in Mad Max, only talking when the situation calls for it.

Re: The First Review For WarioWare: Move It! Is In

Bret

@TheImperfectInsider I mean the argument you're making that Game & Wario is a Warioware game. Just because one mode inside one of the games has Warioware elements, that now qualifies the other 95% of the game? Nah. Pokemon Emerald isn't a roguelike just because the Battle Pyramid in the Battle Frontier was there.

Re: The First Review For WarioWare: Move It! Is In

Bret

@TheImperfectInsider It's not really a WarioWare game because it doesn't have fast paced microgames, something every single game in the series has. It's a spinoff. It's like saying Pokemon Trozei is a Pokemon game. Like if I want to get a friend into the core Pokemon series, I'm not going to recommend Pokemon Conquest, no matter how much I love that game. It's not a good representation of the core series. Same applies for Game and Wario. You're not wrong, but you're not really right either.
