Re: Does Astro Bot's Super Mario 'Inspiration' Cross A Line? Fans Seem Divided

@beltmenot That's the rub, really. Sure, a traumatic experience may affect the types of media you choose to consume, and that's completely fine and doesn't affect anyone.

Trauma does not make you click on every article and type out long posts about how you won't be playing an E10-rated platformer simply because it has cameos of characters from M-rated games you haven't even played. That's a pure choice from Anti-Matter that rubs a ton of people the wrong way. It even comes with a tone of superiority at times, as if we're all wrong for partaking in the "evil stuffs" present in these games, and it's up to him to guide us to the correct and pure path.

@hd94 They don't have many filler arcs any more, haven't for a long time. Since the timeskip (October 2011), they've only had 21 filler episodes out of 569 total. I'd rather watch filler arcs than the ridiculous pacing they've been doing instead. They drag everything to a ridiculous length, filling every episode with several minute long recaps, shot after shot of people running, yelling, swords clashing, lengthy reaction shots, reused animation... to the point that every single episode is bursting with filler instead of just some of them.

I'm really excited for Wit Piece. Forcing a 17 page weekly manga to be adapted into a 22 minute animation weekly is nonsense, especially recently for One Piece as Oda is on a schedule where he only releases 2-3 chapters and then takes a week break. Recently each episode only adapts ~12 pages of manga. That's just awful.

Re: Some Of The "Original Developers" Are Working On Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Bret

@PikminMarioKirby Yes, Nintendo allows their games to be delayed, because they aren't tied to endless other products like cards, mobile apps, and anime. The Pokemon merchandising machine is what drives these rushed releases, not Game Freak. Nintendo leaving time for a flagship release like Mario doesn't at all disprove this.

Nintendo contracts Game Freak to make games on a deadline. No core Pokemon game has been delayed since Diamond and Pearl in 2005 for this reason. There's too much riding on the release of the games to delay them now, but they haven't been given any more time than back in the pixel days to develop the games. That's why ever since the games went 3D, we've gotten fewer new pokemon than ever in each game, including regional variants instead of new ideas, and very little to do in the postgame.

Re: We're Getting A Brand New 'Mario & Luigi' RPG This November

@WaveBoy I have no idea how you can look at this and think it looks soulless. I seriously think it looks better than most other first party Nintendo games on the Switch have looked, absolutely including Odyssey. The character animation is leaps and bounds above anything else Nintendo has done with the Mario series. I wish the movie had been animated in this style.

Re: Dead Cells Designer Reveals Beat 'Em Up 'Tenjutsu', And We Really Hope It Comes To Switch

@russell-marlow Countless games throughout the history of gaming have been advertised in ways that don't represent gameplay. The first Smash Bros game didn't have live adults in mascot outfits beating each other with hammers, did you accuse that of "false advertising"? Surely you didn't accuse Sonic Mania of the same when it debuted its animated intro, so why do it for this? Were you disappointed when the original Legend of Zelda didn't actually suck you into the TV?

Plus the trailer shows gameplay, and the in game art is far from "lazy". Looks at least equivalent to Celeste, one of the most beloved games on the Switch.

@N00BiSH Noting that he's listed as a supervisor for TTYD, rather than the producer credit he has for all the other titles. Who knows what the heck the actual difference is, but they both read like very influential roles to me.

Interestingly, there's no credit for him in the remake, just a special thanks. Supervisor is Ryota Kawade, and several other producers are listed.

Re: Feature: Death By A Thousand Karts - Can We Race ALL 96 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tracks In A Single Session?

Bret

I definitely did this with some friends when it was 48 and even that felt like a marathon, especially when we had pretty much solidified our positions with one of us (not me lol) consistently taking more firsts than the rest, same as what happened here. Kudos to you for sticking it out for the long run! I don't envy you for suffering through all those Tour tracks.

Re: Random: The Last Pokémon Player On 3DS Online Shares Message Of Thanks

@boxyguy Seriously! I don't understand why people can't just let silly, fun things happen. Like of course there's nothing significant about this in the grand scheme of things, but why does there have to be?! It's essentially just a celebration of the 3DS and all the good times it gave us. Is that such a crime?
