Re: Review: F-Zero 99 - A Brilliant Battle-Royale Revival That Plays To The Series' Strengths

@MedusaMadman77 Yes, those are all very negative and real things about games with microtransactions and gacha mechanics, which F-Zero 99 does not have. FZ99 doesn't have "fomo tactics", it doesn't even have events to miss out on so far, aside from this grand prix thing which is going every half hour. And you haven't explained how it's more addictive than any other games, you just keep pointing at it and saying it's addictive. And again, whether people play it or not Nintendo is not making extra money on it! It's not a monetized product! So what on earth are you on about?

@MedusaMadman77 Dude what?? The 99 model is hardly a plague on gaming. How is it inherently any more "addictive" than any other game? It's not as if it has microtransactions or gacha mechanics. At worst F-Zero 99 is just an attempt to get more people to sign up for a Nintendo Online account, which is $20 a year and gets you actual games and, you know, the ability to play games online. There's absolutely nothing darker going on here.

I really hope this game updates with remappable controls soon. The B button on the joycon is the last face button I would've chosen for acceleration. A would be better, but ZR would be best. I know that there's a spin move on ZR, but that'd be better suited for a face button. Holding down a trigger for racing games just feels better than a face button. I'm not super hopeful as MK8D still forces the A button for acceleration, but... I can still whine, damn it.

(and don't tell me about global remaps, that's a non-solution. you shouldn't have to dive into the main menu every time you want to play a different game in a way other than the default control scheme)

Re: Review: Pokémon Trading Card Game - A Cracking Adaptation That Still Holds Up

Love this game. Wonderful soundtrack, and perfect for challenge runs. The game got points docked for being "too easy", but there's no reason you can't do a run where you build decks specifically to be evenly matched with your opponent, or even put yourself at a disadvantage. Monotype challenges and even single evolution lines are capable of taking this game on. Paraspectre on Youtube has done a ton of challenge runs, from using the Paras line only to an Easter special using only lines having to do with eggs. You can easily make your own difficulty here, same as any Pokemon game.

@HammerGalladeBro What influencers are doing with a game should have zero impact on whether you enjoy it.

@EaglyPurahfan What you're missing here is that it doesn't look like a friggin' gamecube game! Go back and turn on your gamecube and put literally any game in it, then go back to S/V. Make sure your eyes are open for both. It's night and day. Seriously. I'm tired of people rewriting history. I'm not saying that S/V look good. I'm saying that you have no idea what a gamecube game actually looks like.

Re: Pokémon Presents Announced For 8th August 2023

Bret

Gen 10 announcement - NO THANKS. I really hope that Nintendo realizes that faith in Pokemon dwindled with the release of S/V. Next game needs to spend more time in the oven. I'm certain that Game Freak would rather have more time, but Nintendo wants that money wheel to keep turning. I just don't know if I can take another product that was rushed out the door early.

S/V DLC - If we don't get a release date for DLC 1 then what is this Presents even for? 100% chance this gets announced. I expect a large chunk of this Presents to be focused on both DLCs.

New games - I honestly don't expect one. The year after Sw/Sh came out, we only got DLC. I assume the same for this year. Barring Gen 10, there's also Legends and remakes. Of those, Legends would surprise me less, but I'd still be pretty damn surprised.

Detective Pikachu Returns - Never played the original, but I'll probably play this. This'll be another big chunk of the Presents.

NSO - Come on. Put the old games on it.

Mobile games - These sure will get updates and coverage. Yup. Good for them.

Left field - Pokemon Conquest 2 or remake. Please. I'll give you whatever you want.

Absolutely off topic but this wouldn't be on topic anywhere - does anyone else have problems with their top left burger menu on NL? Normally this is where I click to see my notifications but for the past week the only option under the menu is Manage Topics.
