Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Stars Discuss Who Should Play Wario In Possible Sequel

Bret

@Mario_maniac I agree with you entirely, but we're working within the lanes of reality here. I can almost guarantee that any subsequent movies will have the same approach to voice acting. I'd love to see actual voice actors elevating these roles instead of merely filling them (Bowser aside, Jack Black was great), but that's not the Hollywood way.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Roguelikes, Roguelites And Run-Based Games

Bret

Risk of Rain 1 is getting remade and enhanced as Risk of Rain Returns, and as a 2D game is much better for controllers than Risk of Rain 2 is. I'm really looking forward to it! And Hades 2 is probably my most anticipated game of the year. They'll both make some very nice additions to this list.

@HalBailman Isn't the only real difference between modern and traditional roguelikes the presence of progression systems? I don't buy the claim there's "nothing" Rogue-like about roguelikes. The bones seem the same to me - you start with nothing (aside from the gradual upgrades/unlocks present in modern roguelikes), you die, you try again. I'd call them roguelites before "re-run". Rerun has a negative connotation.

Re: Mario Videos Now Have More Than 100 Billion Views On YouTube

Bret

- More speedruns of Mario are uploaded on YouTube than any other game series
- Over two million YouTube channels have uploaded Mario videos
- A new Mario video is uploaded on YouTube every 20 seconds
- Sixty percent of all Mario Maker views on YouTube come from Japan

Mhm, yep, that all seems pretty reasonable

- There are over two thousand channels dedicated to the Mario universe

Now that seems... weirdly low.

Re: Legendary DK Rap Composer Disappointed He's Missing From Mario Movie Credits

Bret

@Luigi420 Nintendo owns the music Koji Kondo composed for all the Mario games and he's credited, and also Kirkhope was credited for the DK Rap in all the Smash games, so this argument is a lot of nonsense. Watch the soundtrack credits for a movie sometime. They'll be near the end. The writers of the songs are always credited, as well as who licensed the use of the music, typically a record company for contemporary songs, but in this case the proper credits would've been Grant Kirkhope, Nintendo, and probably Rareware.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gameplay Trailer Drops Tomorrow, 28th March 2023

@Otoemetry I'm totally with you, but there's folks completely writing this game off because it's going to reuse some stuff from the first game, as if a new story, mechanics, and additional areas aren't more than enough to make up for the fact that they've seen these Bokoblin models before. It's wild.

@TheBigBlue Yeah, I sent that comment before realizing the troll's comments had been removed.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

@Ulysses I would get over a small hub world. If there was like, a garage hub where racers would stand next to their customized vehicles? That's cool. I really just don't want another game in the Burnout Paradise style, where you drive through the open world to reach objectives which ask you to drive through the open world.

Hub worlds can be prone to bloat too - Fire Emblem Three Houses is a fine example. It had to implement fast travel for navigation of the hub world, which is just silly in my opinion. I am sure some find that immersive, but I find it annoying. Splatoon's hub worlds are a good size, and it's really nice that for folks like me who'd rather just scroll through a menu than walk to the menu, that option is there.

2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'
Oh? Interesti-
Includes 'open-world' elements
ZZZZZZzzzz

Arcade style racers are all I'm interested in. No need to drive to the driving game so you can drive. Just let us play the game. My favorite racing games all agree: Burnout 3 Takedown, Kirby Air Ride, and MK8D.

Re: Video: Everything That Could Go Wrong With The Switch's Successor

@lumothesinner @Max_the_German Did the 3DS suddenly become a sluggish, unusable console when themes were added? Of course not. I promise you, a 1920x1080 png in the background and a 128 kbps audio track are not going to turn your Switch into a TI-83.

And again, people (and not just you two, there's a ton of you on this thread that I'm addressing), themes are OPTIONAL. That means you don't have to use them if you don't want to. Why do so many of you celebrate the possibility being taken away? It's weird. Like, my phone has the option to be used as a mobile wifi hotspot. I've never turned it on and can't think of a reason I would. But you people in my position would get all pissed that the feature even exists. I don't get it.
