@Zyph I actually just got a new TV the other day that is 120hz but it's 85" and I think I'd still rather play handheld than play a game at 1080p on it haha.
I literally can't tell any difference between playing a game at 60fps and 120fps TBH so I'll likely be sticking to quality mode on any game that can hold a stable 60.
I quite like digital triggers for that reason TBH. I know analog triggers are useful for certain genres but they're all games that I don't typically play anyway.
The prices are slightly high but if the alternative is stuff like digital deluxe editions, early access, paid cosmetic DLC, loot boxes, etc. then I'll take that one off slightly higher payment with everything included in the game personally. At least Mario Kart is cheap as if you get the bundle anyway.
@MarioBrickLayer IMO the Wii U was lacking the most important thing, which is a big first party title. New Super Mario Bros. had already grown pretty stale by that point and Nintendo Land was a bit of fun but not exactly the most exciting thing in the world. 3DS launch had the same problem. Glad they seemed to have learned their lesson.
@OldGamer999 Feels pretty smooth so far down here in Australia. Was able to preorder a couple of hours after the Direct and they're still available now. Our prices aren't too bad all things considered either.
@SuperRetroArt I respect your efforts but unfortunately I think you're fighting a losing battle there. They'll just put them back up 40 days from launch if they can't list them now. Only real way to stop them would be for everyone to stop buying from them.
@astrogamer Didn't recall MK8's DLC being so soon after release but I guess that does makes sense considering how short the Wii U's life was in general haha. I still think it's likely to be a bit longer than that before we get anything for World (assuming we do at all) but either way I'm down with it.
I can see the game getting DLC much later on like Mario Kart 8 did and I would be fine with that. So far Nintendo's approach to DLC in general has been pretty good with actual quality expansions that are worth the asking price. Hopefully that continues on Switch 2.
This non-story is just another example of people online trying to find literally anything they can to complain about. I don't think all of this doom and gloom is going to count for much come launch day and there's a shiny new Mario Kart game to play (at least for those that managed to get a preorder in before it sell out).
I know some people will be disappointed by the lack of achievements but I actually kinda prefer it that way. I just want to play a game because it's fun to play and then stop when it stops being fun to play. Obviously I could always just ignore them (as I do on Steam) but I still prefer to not have them there at all.
As for no eShop music, that's also preferred for me. A lot of the time I'm browsing the eShop while watching a video or something so it just saves me the trouble of turning down the volume.
If developers even are allowed to assign commands specifically to them, I can't see that happening often. The Joy-Con don't have back buttons so it'd make it hard to play those games in handheld mode plus most third party games are multi-platform games that need to keep other controllers in mind as well.
I do love the back buttons though as long as they're nice and easy to press. I use an Xbox Elite controller for PC with two paddles attached that I permanently keep assigned to L3 and R3 as I hate using the sticks as buttons.
@Dazman People on the Internet just love complaining more than anything else. The high-ish prices have given them an easy target but if it's not that then they'll always just find something else.
Pretty happy with the value of the expansion pass these days. Mine family pass is actually expired at the moment because I wasn't playing my Switch anyway and most friends in my group haven't been paying but I plan to get all that sorted and renew it before Switch 2 launch.
@KociolekDoSyta Is it really even necessary to have every single game installed at all times though? I never bothered upgrading from a 400GB card on my Switch and instead just got into the habit of archiving games if I'm not going to be playing them any time in the near future.
I was pretty impressed by how everything looked in the Treehouse stream on my new 85" TV. I love handheld gaming, used my Switch in handheld 99% of the time and was fully prepared to do the same with Switch 2 but I might actually be tempted to use docked mode a bit more this time around if first party games are going to be looking that nice.
Between NSO vouchers for first party games and the gold coin difference between digital and physical it was essentially already cheaper to buy digitally on the Switch if you weren't buying physical games under retail price.
It's more expensive than I'd like but going by everything I've seen from the console and games so far, I'm still easily going to get my money's worth.
Games keep getting more expensive in general but rather than skipping games that I really want because they're a little on the pricy side, I'll just try to cut back on buying games that I might never get around to playing instead. A lot of wasted money in my backlog.
I'm very interested to try out the mouse controls. Love mouse for aiming but prefer stick to keyboard for movement so it's potentially the best of both worlds if it's comfortable and works well. Happy to fall back on gyro if I don't like it though.
I wasn't exactly sure what I felt about it when we saw him in the original Mario Kart teaser but the DK trailer 100% sold me. He's so expressive now and I'm all for it.
Interesting that the Switch 2 versions are the same price as Mario Kart in the US. In Australia they're at the same price point as DK, which is still a lot but a little more palatable.
Games have already been creeping up in price too much for my liking in general TBH. I'm obviously not a fan but I don't think it's specifically a Nintendo problem.
I'm not interested in paying for this but I also don't think it's really worth throwing a fit over. Happy to just ignore it and get stuck into Mario Kart.
Some Australian retailers have already started putting pre-orders up so grabbed the Mario Kart bundle and Pro Controller rather than waiting for Nintendo. Nice to just get it out of the way and not worry about it as I really didn't want to miss out at launch.
I'm happy with the console and the first party games we did see but I was hoping to see a few more than that to be honest. It was very third party focused which I don't particularly care about as I can play most of those games elsewhere. Looking forward to playing Mario Kart at launch though (assuming I can get a pre-order in) and I've been wanting a new Kirby Air Ride game for like ever so that was pretty hype.
I love Kirby Air Ride so very excited to see it finally get a new entry. And also just nice to see Sakurai making something that isn't just more Smash Bros.
Interested in The Hundred Line, Fantasy Life and Rune Factory but I'll be getting all three on Steam rather than Switch. Been very slim pickings for first party games for a while now but that's going to change tomorrow.
@mariomaster96 They could potentially cram a fair bit more into that time too if they wanted with the pacing of a pre-recorded Direct generally being a bit better than a live presentation.
Around the length I was hoping to see. Should be a good number of reveals in the time. Pretty excited for it. Hopefully no attention seeking losers spoil anything in the next 24 hours.
Tomodachi Life is one 3DS game that just never appealed to me back then for whatever reason. Several years later and my tastes in games have changed a lot since then but yeah nah, still not interested in this one. Happy for those who wanted it though.
I feel like a lot of games and series start feeling very dumbed down and generic when they start focusing too much on appealing to the mainstream Western audience so this is an approach to development I can appreciate.
@Jade37 Yeah, that's been my biggest complaint as well. The alchemy is essentially the central mechanic to the whole series so it's a real shame to see it so neglected.
I bought the game on Steam at launch but I'm still only 14 or so hours in so far. Usually I'd be more or less finished an Atelier game by now but I've been struggling to get super into it. I feel like the series has started to lose its identity a bit in the pursuit of appealing to a more mainstream audience.
It was an extremely weak Direct but that's exactly what I wanted. I've been saying for a while now that I don't want to see any big new first party games on the Switch 1 anymore. Give me nothing but Switch 2 exclusives.
As someone who already checks this site and other places for gaming news regularly, I don't see this really adding much for me. Could be a smart idea to get news out there to the more casual audience who don't typically pay much attention to gaming news though.
