The delays really killed my interest in this one. Been keeping my eye on prices for the physical copy but being a Nintendo game, it never gets cheap enough to really tempt me. If anything it hasn't even gotten any cheaper than what I originally had it preordered for before Amazon cancelled my order.
I just want more games that are fun TBH, don't really care how technically impressive they are. Only one I'm particularly interested in is Monster Hunter Wilds, assuming it's a better Monster Hunter game than World at least.
@Diogmites I'd highly recommend playing the original Ace Attorney Trilogy before these games as there are a lot of returning characters and references to those games that you won't fully appreciate otherwise. Plus they're great games and are worth playing.
Investigations 2 is right up there with Trials & Tribulations and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles as the very best in the entire series IMO. Easy 10/10 game. Glad it's finally got an official localisation so that more people can experience it. Better late than never.
@SillyG Reminds me of when I went to buy a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii in the morning on launch day from a big EB Games store in Melbourne and was lucky enough to snag the last of the two whole copies they received for non-preorders. I've preordered games I want day one ever since then just to be on the safe side.
Visual novels are never going to be huge sellers compared to a lot of other types of games but a game doesn't need to sell millions and millions of copies to be a success. Niche games are just as important as the big mainstream ones IMO. The video game market would be very boring with little variety if developers only focused on making whatever will sell the best all the time.
I'm still in the middle of playing the game so I can't give it a final score yet but I'm loving it so far. Probably a solid 9 at least for me unless the ending is super disappointing.
Love the series so will be grabbing this day one. I was interested to see the combat as I didn't like the system in the Ryza games as much as the more traditional turn-based ones and this one seemed it might be going more in the action route. From the small glimpse here it looks like it could be a bit more along the lines of something like Xenoblade's combat system, which I wouldn't be complaining about at all if that were the case given that's easily my favourite JRPG series ever.
That's good news if it's available from the start. I hate it when games have their higher difficulties locked behind completing the game, especially when the default difficulty options are too easy. I like a bit of a challenge but I rarely feel like doing multiple playthroughs of a game.
Thank Goodness You're Here! definitely gets my vote too. SteamWorld Heist II was fun as well though. Haven't played the rest but been planning to check out Can of Wormholes someday. Was originally planning to play World of Goo 2 but the price put me off.
Biggest highlight for me was definitely the new Atelier game but it's also nice to see a new Rune Factory game that has potential to be good. The Indie World was overall pretty solid as well.
@Samalik They've always got their unique twist on things but they were always turn based till Ryza which introduced some real time elements into the mix. Maybe if they continue to pump out games like every year or so like they have been there could still be room for both though.
@IceEarthGuard Yeah it looked more like an action game plus with a bit of a darker/more serious tone than you typically see in an Atelier game. Made me question whether it was going to be a brand new series by the same devs rather than an Atelier game.
I do hope they don't completely abandon the more traditional turn-based games to be honest. I don't mind them taking the series in a new direction and trying to grow its popularity but hopefully they occasionally give us something a bit more traditional from time to time as well like Atelier Sophie 2.
This one genuinely surprised me just by how incredible it looks based on the trailer compared to Rune Factory 5. Hopefully they've got this whole 3D thing figured out now.
I assumed it was at Atelier game straight away from the style but grew increasingly less and less sure about it as the trailer went on. Seems to have a pretty different vibe to it to the rest of the series and I'm really keen. Been one of my favourite series in recent years since playing Rorona for the first time on Switch followed by the billion other titles.
I usually enjoy the Indie World presentations so just that would have been enough for me. The Partner Showcase right after is just a bonus. Should be a fun time.
It's such a great game. I'll probably end up buying it again on PC sometime down the track as an excuse to play it over from scratch and experience all the new stuff added since launch. Played great on Switch in handheld mode though.
Not interested in the game personally but always pleased to hear about more games adding gyro aiming. It should just be a staple feature for Switch releases at this point.
This is probably my most anticipated release of the year. It's nice that it's been a pretty short wait between announcement and release as I'm pretty keen to jump into it.
@Lightsiyd I'm pretty far into the game and my inventory is full of crap so if there's a limit, it's large enough that it doesn't matter.
@B238ben Once your party limit is 6-7, you can pretty reliably hit two or three missions per day before resting. It adds a little extra layer of strategy when it comes to picking which missions to do and how to divide your party in order to get some of the higher cost bounty rewards. Even if you choose to go back and rest after every mission though, it probably only takes like a minute tops to get back to where you were anyway so I don't think it's that big of a deal.
I'm still keen on the game but I'm not too impressed about the editor being paid DLC, to be honest. Gameplay features like that should be included in the price of the base game which isn't exactly cheap as is.
If I was picking purely based on the actual theme then it'd be an easy vote for Present but I'll probably end up ignoring the theme for this one and just going with the Squid Sisters.
Very interested to see what they come up with next. Xenoblade Chronicles is probably my favourite series ever and I'm pretty confident whatever they come up with will be amazing whether it's continuing with the Xenoblade line of games or something completely new and different.
Was thinking about grabbing and playing it at launch on PC rather than Switch but it's priced a little higher than I would have liked which is making me hesitate a bit. Might end up waiting for a sale instead.
Not sure how I feel about owning 18 Joy-Con, two of which are still functioning properly. I love them as controllers but hope the next system's iteration have much higher quality.
Mostly just really keen for the new Famicom Detective Club game, definitely playing that at launch. Also probably going to grab Zelda and hope that the blur effect doesn't bother me as much as it did when I tried playing Link's Awakening way back. I want Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku as well but I'll likely just download it at some point after I get a new TV.
As much as I have nostalgia for a lot of the early cartridges, it's pretty hard to go past the practicality and convenience of the tiny Switch cartridges.
I feel like my OLED Switch is kinda on its last legs at this point so pretty keen to get my hands on the new system and transfer everything over, assuming it's backwards compatible.
Just played through it recently after finally getting my physical copy. Great game, very much enjoyed it. May or may not buy the DLC depending on what is is and when it releases.
I gave up on trying to fit everything onto one card years ago and got into the habit of just archiving anything I was finished with or wasn't going to play any time soon so I'm still making do just fine with a 400GB card despite my pretty extensive Switch library. I'll likely grab a bigger one for the next console though.
@anoyonmus Personally I'd recommend just playing both first as they have recurring characters and are pretty short anyway. I played them in the original release order, The Missing Heir followed by The Girl Who Stands Behind.
@anoyonmus I'm happy for them to go a bit darker with it. I actually do quite enjoy horror visual novels. It's when I need to actually react and do stuff in real time that I tend to nope out of horror games.
I was expecting Emio to be some random horror game that isn’t really my thing but now I’m officially excited. I love the Famicom Detective Club remakes and I’ve been hoping that they’d decide to build on them with a new entry but wasn’t really expecting anything. Coming out so soon too.
I'm generally not into playing horror games so not sure I'll necessarily care for whatever the heck this ends up being but I'm very curious to find out more just because of how bizarre this is, coming from Nintendo.
@KingMike I'll definitely be preordering it as soon as it's available. Just don't want them to wake up in the morning to find that preorders have already come and gone before I got the chance.
Heist is the best game in the series IMO so it's the one I wanted to see a sequel to the most. Not that I would be complaining about a SteamWorld Quest 2 either.
I'm usually pretty keen to check out anything they make so I'll do my bit and buy a copy at launch. Game looks pretty crazy, was probably the most interesting announcement of the Direct for me.
I've already played both games but it's still very exciting to see Investigations 2 finally get an official English release. It's an incredible game that all fans of the series deserve the opportunity to experience. Hopefully now that all these ports are out of the way though we can finally get an Ace Attorney 7 next, it's been quite the wait.
Nice to finally see some footage, looking really good. No surprise about it releasing next year, I would have been shocked to see it release before the next console.
We all knew it was coming but it’s nice to get confirmation of the date and time. Not getting my hopes up too high for this one as I’m expecting Nintendo to be focusing on the next system at this point. Anything more than ports/filler games would be a pretty nice surprise.
It's just a single charm so not really much of a crossover. Really nice content update with a lot of fun new battles, companions and charms. One particular companion might be a tad OP though as most of my recent runs have ended with them in my team and just obliterating everything.
