Re: Opinion: Upgraded For Switch 2, ARMS Deserves A Second Shot At Greatness

BenAV

I had a fun time with ARMS. Played it for like 40 hours when it came out but never touched it again after that. I wouldn't be interested in an upgraded version of the same game but I could potentially be very interested in a sequel depending what they do with it. Work in some sort of interested fully fleshed out single player story mode that isn't just going stage to stage and then I'm in.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

BenAV

I'm about 15 hours in on PC and I'm having a fun time with it but it's certainly not without its flaws either that subtract a little from the experience for me.

The controls (with controller) in particular feel like they tried to make them as initiative as possible for me personally. I press the wrong buttons constantly and would love to remap basically everything if I could but the options are extremely limited. I died one time because I tried to use my special and somehow ended up in the chat log instead.

The multiplayer implementation is also very disappointing. I've got a friend who is also playing through the game and I would have loved to go through co-op.

Re: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Switch Update Arrives Next Week

BenAV

This is a game that I was so excited for when it was annouced but have gotten less and less excited with every piece of news since its annoucement. I'll be waiting for reviews and impressions and probably still picking it up on Steam if it turns out to be good but Level-5 have fumbled this title big time and it feels like they've given a big middle finger to Switch players, who should have been their primary audience.

Re: Palworld Dev Announces "Disappointing" Game Changes Resulting From Nintendo's Lawsuit

BenAV

I tried playing Palworld a little while back but I regret buying it to be honest. It just feels like a generic open world survival game with creature collection/battling tacked on as an afterthought. It feels pretty soulless and got boring super quickly. I've been as critical as anyone about the recent Pokemon games but I actually think that Palworld is just as bad which is kinda impressive in a way.

Re: 'The Hundred Line' Dev Too Kyo Games Is Still "On The Brink Of Going Under"

BenAV

Not finished the game yet but it's definitely my favourite game of the year so far and probably the most invested I've been in a game since Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Hopefully it does well enough that they can keep making more brilliant games. Don't really care whether it gets ported to other systems or not though, it's already on the two most important ones.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

BenAV

I'd be more upset about it if I were planning to buy a lot of third party games on Switch 2 but I'll mainly be using it for Nintendo games which I expect to be on a proper cartridge. I'd actually consider going full digital but they'd need to provide a proper replacement for NSO vouchers for that to be viable for me otherwise physical is straight up cheaper.

Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller

BenAV

@SirLink I don't think they care about people getting upset as long as it's not going to stop most people from buying the console. I think they could have gotten away with not having controller backwards compatibility if they really wanted to try to maximise accessory sales. Probably not worth it though. I think they'll sell a lot of them regardless.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)

BenAV

Hearing about a lot of the troubles people have gone through trying to preorder makes me glad I live in Australia for this one as our preorders went up shortly after the Switch 2 Direct and are still available everywhere now. I'm sure there'll be more chances though so hopefully everyone who really wants one manages to secure it by launch.

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

BenAV

I bought a Steam Deck when they officially launched here in Australia last November and I'll be getting a Switch 2 at launch. The former is to compliment my gaming PC to give me a bit more flexibility in how I play my Steam games and the latter is mostly so I can play all the Nintendo first party games that I love.

If I had to pick one single device to own as a standalone device then I'd definitely go with the Switch 2 which feels like better value for money overall but they serve different functions and there's room for them to co-exist.

Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2

BenAV

I think adding mouse functionality to the console's built in controllers is actually pretty damn innovative and opens quite a few new gameplay possibilities that typically aren't possible on consoles. Plus the ability to use two mice at the same time or combine gyro with mouse controls makes it even a bit unique compared to what PC can do with mouse aiming.

I don't think there's only so much they could do in terms of innovation without drastically changing the system's form factor just for the sake of changing it which I don't think has ever been Nintendo's real aim.

Re: Mario Kart World Is Reportedly The Smoothest Entry Yet

BenAV

@Zyph I didn't really buy it with gaming in mind as I've always been a handheld player on Switch and I can always played docked on my monitor anyway but I was watching the Treehouse streams on it and everything looked honestly better than I would have expected so I'm actually kinda keen to try out Mario Kart on it at launch.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Comments On Switch 2's "Hefty" Price Hikes

BenAV

The prices are slightly high but if the alternative is stuff like digital deluxe editions, early access, paid cosmetic DLC, loot boxes, etc. then I'll take that one off slightly higher payment with everything included in the game personally. At least Mario Kart is cheap as if you get the bundle anyway.

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

BenAV

@MarioBrickLayer IMO the Wii U was lacking the most important thing, which is a big first party title. New Super Mario Bros. had already grown pretty stale by that point and Nintendo Land was a bit of fun but not exactly the most exciting thing in the world. 3DS launch had the same problem. Glad they seemed to have learned their lesson.
