Re: Drag X Drive Switch 2 eShop Price Revealed

BenAV

I would have preferred a fully fleshed out game for a higher price, personally. It's good that they're not way overcharging for it but if it's a pretty barebones experience then I'd still rather save the money and play something more substantial instead.

Re: Sega Knows You Hate Mario Kart's Blue Shells

BenAV

@Picola-Wicola I actually don't mind frontrunning in Knockout Tour. A blue shell is inevitable and it's pretty rare to hold onto first for the whole race (against humans at least) but I've also found it to be pretty rare that I'll get messed up so bad that I fail to qualify for the checkpoint as long as it's not the first checkpoint. Where I really don't want to be is in the middle of the pack as you can often straight up lose if you don't get mushrooms from the last item box before the checkpoint.

Re: Poll: Have You Won Knockout Tour Online In Mario Kart World Yet?

BenAV

I played quite a bit of Knockout Tour before I gave up on the game as I don't like the normal race mode in this game. Finished top four regularly and won quite a lot. Not with any real skill though, just bagging for good items and using them at the right time. If you get a shock in top eight you probably win the race.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

BenAV

@Kingy I think it could have been fine if they didn't drop the ball by making both race modes basically just the same thing.

If I was designing the game, I would have kept the standard race mode as 12 players with full laps only just like previous entries.

You still have the new 24 player chaotic straight line races that we have now but only in the form of Knockout Tour which is what it feels like it was really designed for anyway. Get rid of the eight rallies and replace it with more randomised routes that can go through any of the different roads to add a bit more variety to the mode.

I think the chaos that the new gameplay brings can be fun in small bursts but the problem is that they've made it the only way to play the game, replacing the core gameplay of the series until now, rather than just letting it be the fun side mode that it should have been.

Re: Splatoon Raiders, A New Splatoon Spin-Off, Is Confirmed For Switch 2

BenAV

A notification from the Nintendo Today app about a new Splatoon game was about the last thing I expected to see when I checked my phone. Nintendo being as unpredictable as ever.

This probably doesn't bode well for our chances of a Nintendo Direct in the near future sadly but I'm excited for the game. Love seeing more Splatoon even in spinoff form.

Re: Review: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time (Switch) - Level-5's Triumphant Sequel Trades Depth For Breadth

BenAV

It's far from a perfect game as while I've played it I've constantly been finding myself thinking "why is it like that?" or "they should have done this" but despite that I've got 142 hours in the game and have had an overall really fun time with it.

I'm glad I got the Steam version though so that I could fix the awful camera with mods. The game feels so much better to play when you can actually see where you're going.

Re: PSA: Switch 2's Screen Comes With A Pre-Applied Film Layer, Don't Peel It Off

BenAV

Not a big fan of these plastic films TBH. They'll scratch more easily than the screen and you're not supposed to remove it so it's basically like having an easily scratched screen. Makes using a screen protector pretty much mandatory and my least favourite part of getting a new system is trying to get a screen protector on without anything getting stuck under it.

Re: Opinion: Upgraded For Switch 2, ARMS Deserves A Second Shot At Greatness

BenAV

I had a fun time with ARMS. Played it for like 40 hours when it came out but never touched it again after that. I wouldn't be interested in an upgraded version of the same game but I could potentially be very interested in a sequel depending what they do with it. Work in some sort of interested fully fleshed out single player story mode that isn't just going stage to stage and then I'm in.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

BenAV

I'm about 15 hours in on PC and I'm having a fun time with it but it's certainly not without its flaws either that subtract a little from the experience for me.

The controls (with controller) in particular feel like they tried to make them as initiative as possible for me personally. I press the wrong buttons constantly and would love to remap basically everything if I could but the options are extremely limited. I died one time because I tried to use my special and somehow ended up in the chat log instead.

The multiplayer implementation is also very disappointing. I've got a friend who is also playing through the game and I would have loved to go through co-op.

Re: Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Switch Update Arrives Next Week

BenAV

This is a game that I was so excited for when it was annouced but have gotten less and less excited with every piece of news since its annoucement. I'll be waiting for reviews and impressions and probably still picking it up on Steam if it turns out to be good but Level-5 have fumbled this title big time and it feels like they've given a big middle finger to Switch players, who should have been their primary audience.

Re: Palworld Dev Announces "Disappointing" Game Changes Resulting From Nintendo's Lawsuit

BenAV

I tried playing Palworld a little while back but I regret buying it to be honest. It just feels like a generic open world survival game with creature collection/battling tacked on as an afterthought. It feels pretty soulless and got boring super quickly. I've been as critical as anyone about the recent Pokemon games but I actually think that Palworld is just as bad which is kinda impressive in a way.

Re: 'The Hundred Line' Dev Too Kyo Games Is Still "On The Brink Of Going Under"

BenAV

Not finished the game yet but it's definitely my favourite game of the year so far and probably the most invested I've been in a game since Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Hopefully it does well enough that they can keep making more brilliant games. Don't really care whether it gets ported to other systems or not though, it's already on the two most important ones.
