@SplatRay001 Hard to give a definitive answer to that. First game is still pretty good and is probably worth playing but I think the second game is improved in a lot of ways and you don't need any knowledge of the first to enjoy the second. Mostly depends if you want to commit to playing through two 60 hours JRPGs or not.
I'm pretty happy with both. Switch 2 mainly for first party Nintendo games and then Steam Deck to complement my gaming PC, mainly used as an indie game machine.
@Ellie-Moo That was my issue with Odyssey, there were just so many moons and collecting them didn't feel satisfying enough. I'm hoping that the skill point system in this game helps in that regard.
Leading up to launch I wasn't worried about the gap between games as I figured Mario Kart would keep me pretty occupied for a while. I think the game's pretty terrible though so I ended up regretting buying the console at launch considering I don't like the only game I own on it. Looking forward to finally having something fun to play (hopefully for real this time) in DK though. It does look really good.
@Grandiajet Echoes of Wisdom is about the only game where it actually did affect my experience a bit. Usually I don't even notice frame drops and wonder what everyone's complaining about (which I suspect will be the case with Bananza) but the frequent fluctuations between 30fps and 60fps in the overworld in that game were a bit much for me.
I just finished Promise Mascot Agency earlier so need to pick a new game to start. Maybe Summer Pockets: Reflection Blue. Mostly just playing Monster Train 2 though, it's too addictive.
I think I've put in 40 hours or so because I bought a Switch 2 at launch specifically at launch for this game and really want to like it and get my money's worth but I think I'm done trying at this point. It's just not fun with the beyond terrible execution of the online modes.
I don't review games on Metacritic but to be fair I did score Mario Kart World a 1/10 here and that was before the recent update. First game I've ever scored that low.
@PeterPanana After I did a system transfer, all my old Switch games started trying to download so I had to quickly go through and cancel them all one by one which was a little annoying. I'm only planning to download my old Switch games when I feel like playing one.
I'm not really worried about getting a microSD for now. I'm thinking of going all digital on Switch 2 but even then I'm only really going to be buying first party Nintendo games for the most part and with how good they are at keeping the file size down, the internal storage will probably last me a fair while without needing to uninstall stuff.
@dabaumer I don't think the downvote button here even does anything these days anyway. Doesn't stop me from clicking it when I don't like a comment though haha.
It's really silly that we can't queue up for Knockout Tour with friends, I really hope they fix that soon. Stuck either doing short races or playing against CPUs which just isn't the same.
@Jack_Goetz That was actually one of the two big ones for me, along with Mario Kart World. I despise Mario Kart World so unfortunately that one was a waste of money but I still have faith that Sakurai will come through with Kirby.
@Ogbert It wasn't really a thing at lower rating where there's a lot of casual players but once I reached around 8000 rating I would mostly just find rooms where everyone was picking random as that's what most of the more dedicated players want. It may be a vocal minority but that minority are probably the group who actually care about Mario Kart the most.
@Kiz3000 Yeah, Knockout Tour is the only mode that is fun with the intermission tracks IMO. But I was playing with a friend last night and we wanted to play some Knockout Tour together online with randoms and turns out that's another thing you can't even do.
It's honestly ridiculous. All they needed to do was add a toggle to choose between intermission races and regular races and then everyone could have been happy playing however they want.
This just makes me mad honestly. Instead of adding a mode to play three lap tracks which is what everyone picking random clearly wants, they just patch random to further force the crappy intermission tracks onto everyone whether they like them or not. I really wish I didn't pay money for this game.
I would have preferred a fully fleshed out game for a higher price, personally. It's good that they're not way overcharging for it but if it's a pretty barebones experience then I'd still rather save the money and play something more substantial instead.
The gameplay seems interesting and I would have been into it if it were a fully fleshed out game with lots of content and variety but from what we've seen it looks more like a tech demo sort of thing with little substance to it and that's not for me.
@Picola-Wicola I actually don't mind frontrunning in Knockout Tour. A blue shell is inevitable and it's pretty rare to hold onto first for the whole race (against humans at least) but I've also found it to be pretty rare that I'll get messed up so bad that I fail to qualify for the checkpoint as long as it's not the first checkpoint. Where I really don't want to be is in the middle of the pack as you can often straight up lose if you don't get mushrooms from the last item box before the checkpoint.
I played quite a bit of Knockout Tour before I gave up on the game as I don't like the normal race mode in this game. Finished top four regularly and won quite a lot. Not with any real skill though, just bagging for good items and using them at the right time. If you get a shock in top eight you probably win the race.
Trying to buy a console that's only a few weeks old second hand is probably asking for trouble in general. It's pretty likely that there's something wrong with it.
It's possible that they've been working on multiple games at once, possibly with multiple teams, and that a 3D Mario game is also pretty far into development. It's been a long time since Odyssey after all. Either way though I'm just excited to play DK Bananza which looks just as good as peak Mario.
My Switch 2 is currently collecting dust after Mario Kart ended up a huge disappointment for me but this could be the game that makes the console feel worth owning. It's looking extremely fun.
@Kingy I think it could have been fine if they didn't drop the ball by making both race modes basically just the same thing.
If I was designing the game, I would have kept the standard race mode as 12 players with full laps only just like previous entries.
You still have the new 24 player chaotic straight line races that we have now but only in the form of Knockout Tour which is what it feels like it was really designed for anyway. Get rid of the eight rallies and replace it with more randomised routes that can go through any of the different roads to add a bit more variety to the mode.
I think the chaos that the new gameplay brings can be fun in small bursts but the problem is that they've made it the only way to play the game, replacing the core gameplay of the series until now, rather than just letting it be the fun side mode that it should have been.
Can't say I get particularly excited about these individual game Directs. I'll probably watch but I'm already getting the game so I don't really need to see more. Hopefully it's better than the Mario Kart one.
I played through all 150cc Grand Prix first and then went back for the ones I missed 3* on afterwards and then did the same in Knockout Tour. Just finally got around to doing Mirror Grand Prix earlier (3* first try in all of them this time around) but still need to do Knockout Tour.
A notification from the Nintendo Today app about a new Splatoon game was about the last thing I expected to see when I checked my phone. Nintendo being as unpredictable as ever.
This probably doesn't bode well for our chances of a Nintendo Direct in the near future sadly but I'm excited for the game. Love seeing more Splatoon even in spinoff form.
Reminds me that I haven't even bought a case yet. I've got nothing to play on the console anyway for the next month or so anyway so I've got time to find one I guess.
I refuse to buy any Genki products after the leak fiasco though so I'll be going with a different brand when I get around to buying one.
@Ooyah I haven't run into any issues. Still works fine while playing online and everything. You're just adding extra files to the game's folder rather than actually modifying any of the game's files which might be while it doesn't seem to cause any problems but I'm certainly no expert on the topic either.
It's far from a perfect game as while I've played it I've constantly been finding myself thinking "why is it like that?" or "they should have done this" but despite that I've got 142 hours in the game and have had an overall really fun time with it.
I'm glad I got the Steam version though so that I could fix the awful camera with mods. The game feels so much better to play when you can actually see where you're going.
Not a big fan of these plastic films TBH. They'll scratch more easily than the screen and you're not supposed to remove it so it's basically like having an easily scratched screen. Makes using a screen protector pretty much mandatory and my least favourite part of getting a new system is trying to get a screen protector on without anything getting stuck under it.

I'll take any new Octopath game even if it's more of a spinoff as the second game was a 10/10 for me.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch (2) Game Of The Year So Far?
I haven't played either on Switch/Switch 2 specifically but it's between The Hundred Line and Monster Train 2 for me.
On the other end of the spectrum, Mario Kart World gets my vote for worst game I've played this year on any platform.
