Re: Indie Hit Celeste Celebrates 6th Anniversary With Free N64-Style 3D Platformer

Celeste is in my top 10 games of all time. I've played through it multiple times, and I love it more than I could write in this little box. I preface with that because I'm about to be honest. I've been playing this. And, as a fun little commemorative game, it's really cute... but it definitely shows that it was made in "a week-ish." Precision platforming and 3D platforming mix about as well as oil and water.

@FirstEmperor There are two interpretations of what JRPG means. 1) An RPG made in Japan, or 2) a genre of video game based on traditional Japanese RPG mechanics. Yes, Sea of Stars was made in Canada, but the genre is turn-based RPG, or traditional JRPG. It's kind of like how Bloodborne and Elden Ring are Western-style RPGs, but both were created in Japan.

I've heard is described this way, can a TV be considered anime if it wasn't created in Japan? It's kind of the same concept.

@NintendoByNature Okay, fun story about where Cocoon came from. There were two director guys that worked together to create LIMBO and Inside. One of them was more of the world/atmosphere designers and the other was the world/level designers. The two of them had a falling out. The atmosphere guy went on to create Somerville and the level design guy created Cocoon.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Difficult Mainline Mario Game?

B_Lindz

Once upon a time, I tried playing Super Mario Bros. 3 without save-states. Yeah, in those later levels, I cut that out real quick. I'm an adult and I do not have the time to start the whole world over every single time I get a game over.

The games very, though. The better talking point would be hardest level in Mario. The very final level in Super Mario 3D World completely broke. I had to come to terms with the fact that my thumbs aren't quick enough to beat that level.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

B_Lindz

Is it possible that there won't be backward compatibility? Sure. Would I be shocked? Yeah, kinda, if I'm being honest. Nintendo sold more software for the Switch than any other Nintendo console by a mile. I think they might be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't because so many people have their digital libraries on the Switch now.
