Its a fantastic game. I imagine most of the commenters here have not played it yet because ubisoft is known for discounting their products soon after launch.
I'm about to hit chapter 3, and I have to say that this one (artificially) has way more stuff to do then the original (if you try to 100% complete the encyclopedia in 6 years).
I'm taking a short break from TotK to quickly do a run of Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. This version is based on the special edition so each chapter is only one year which drastically reduces the grind. The game has a lot of negatives but I'm enjoying all the additional features over the original.
@Anti-Matter This game is based on the PS2 version. So it's the PS2 music and each chapter is only 1 year and you can play Chapter 7 once you hit the credits.
If TotK had proper OoT style dungeons then it would be my #1.
1. Super Mario 64
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
4. Xenoblade Chronicles
5. Sonic Adventure 2
6. Tears of the Kingdom
7. Pokemon ORAS
8. Hollow Knight
9. DKC: Tropical Freeze
10. Portal 2
I had a pretty cool experience with this one. I remembered that there were Zonai ruins in Faron in BotW. So I went there expecting to find something neat but there wasn't really anything there. But looking up into the air I saw that huge thunderstorm. So I went up there and found the island with the construct head that leads you to the Spirit Temple. After getting Mineru's Vow she tells you to check the Lost Woods for the Master Sword. If you do that then the Deku Tree tells you the Sword is moving around in the sky. The feeling that I found all this stuff early was really cool (I had only done fire and water temples by this point).
EDIT: I'm 100 hours in and I haven't even been to Gerudo yet. This is the first game to crack my top 10 since the original Xenoblade in 2009. It's one of the finest games I've ever played.
@teamdave2002 If the feature is there then a lot of people will use it. Most people are using the divine pulse in Fire Emblem because it's right there - but the experience is cheapened and beating the game feels less like an accomplishment.
Wii pointer controls are so much better then gyro. Gyro is great for precision aiming in something like splatoon but boot up Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime on Switch and you'll notice right away that the Wii control was superior.
Rewrite history? She had an actual story arc. In Sonic CD she needed to be saved because she had no experience but then in Sonic Adventure she figures out how to take care of herself. She says she will reach a point where Sonic will respect her. And then when we get to Sonic Heroes, she is nearly as fast as Sonic.
The same thing happened last year. They announced Persona 3/4/5 for other platforms. Switch owners were upset. Then Nintendo themselves announced the Switch versions in a late June partner showcase.
I got the paraglider about 25 hours into the game. NPCs kept telling me to go to lookout landing. Some shrines were impossible to complete so eventually I went.
@Rykdrew I played it with no skill tree and no items and it was a very good challenge. Had to do the same thing with Fire Emblem this year (no Somniel).
I bought Sonic Frontiers for $30 a few months after release. With companies like Sega and Ubisoft, we have nothing to worry about. We're not paying full price on release day anyway.
The small deadzone in the analog stick, the thumbstick grips, the isolated sunken D-pad, the directional guides, the comfortable grip, the inventive colour schemes, the large primary action button surrounded by periphery action buttons, the analog triggers, the easily tappable second analoge stick... GCN is king <3 for 3D games.
For 2D games, I have to go with the Wii U Pro controller. That thing is a SNES controller with analogue sticks. And an absurd battery life.

Re: Random: Super Mario World's Lemmy Referenced In '90s Home Insurance Ad
Is it because Lemmy's castle is the first really difficult level in Super Mario World? I remember that level stopping my progress for a while.

This is great. We're only missing two theoretical collections. Castlevania Requiem, and Castlevania DS collection.

Castlevania Advance collection too.

Tears of the Kingdom is one of the finest video games I've ever played.
It's so close to perfection, I just wish it had Zelda dungeons.
Re: Minecraft's Switch Version Earns More Revenue Than Xbox And PlayStation

Re: Review: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - A DS All-Timer Returns In Stunning Form
It's definitely not a 10. I think this reviewer is just a tad nostalgic. I recommend everyone play it for the experience though. It's a great game.
Another port of great old games got a 6/10 today. LOL!
Re: Pikmin 4 Will Let You Erase Your Mistakes With A Handy New Rewind Mechanic
If you can't turn it off then this will lessen the experience for a lot of people.

Re: Shadow The Hedgehog Won't Be In Sonic Superstars, Unsurprisingly
Unpopular opinion, but I think Shadow has been mostly pointless since Sonic '06. I'd have preferred if he stayed dead in SA2.
