When I was in school, I had a teacher who thought I was quite a good story teller. Bad on the grammar part, but I was a kid-- she enjoyed my stories quite avidly. I used to tell her I was going to grow up and write stories for Spiderman and all sorts of other comic book characters and different franchises that I loved.
Her reply to me was "If you have this kind of skill to create something, why not create something that is your own and don't work with stories and characters someone else has already created".
I think that logic holds true here. If you're so capable of making epic fan-remakes, why not make your own game that is inspired by, but not a remake-- something that is uniquely you. Bests part is; once you make it and it is its own thing... well, then you can actually sell it. You never know, it might go on to be more popular than the thing that inspired it.
Correction on my previous statement, they are doing some of the things I suggested, I'm just stating I'd like to see more of it or perhaps an expansion upon the concept.
For me, digital discounts are nice, but I'd rather be giving free/discounts on things that are solely digital to begin with. If that makes sense?
For me, getting a discount on a game that I can pick up retail isn't that enticing, but getting FREE DLC for a game I've already beat and would love to revisit, well that is pretty darn cool.
I'm still more in favor of ClubNintendo, flaws in all, they really had something great going near the end of its run. I'm really hoping that MyNintendo works a bit more away from the huge focus on its mobile title, Miitomo.
@NewAdvent There were several promotions that garnered you free games for getting your club nintendo account to a certain level. Also, lots of 3DS games and lesser wii-u game could be bought for coins in the last year of ClubNintendo.
I can see the appeal of not having to buy things, or 'achievement' based rewards, but I'd still like some kind of reward for continuing to buy physical games. Overall, I'm fine with the discounts, but I'd prefer something a bit more quirky, a bit more out of the box than some deals. Particularly when buying most of these games digitally is more than their physical release price.
I feel like this program has HUGE potential, but as I stated before, I want something a bit more unique. Maybe 3DS home themes, DLC for certain games, things like that. There is a lot of untapped potential and the idea of discounts just isn't as exciting for me.
I own three full games because of club nintendo, three full wii-u games. Not to mention music CD from smash bros, free mewtwo dlc and a bunch of other smaller, 3DS games I got for free. Plenty of amazing stuff on ClubNintendo before its death. I don't feel like waiting on mynintendo's demise before we start getting good stuff.
Not digging MyNintendo as much as ClubNintendo, and it has nothing to do with entitlement or nostalgia. Club nintendo was a quirky concept that awarded people who bought nintendo products by flipping things around and offering goofy merchandise rewards as well as free games and even DLC.
This on the other hand just a run-of-the-mill digital rewards program, meant to appeal to people who can't be arsed to drive to their local gametop to pick up a game. The digital versions of these games are sometimes far more expensive than the retail copies, even brand new. It isn't that great of a service.
There are really neat, cool things they could do with this program, like offering free DLC for certain games would be a good example to say the least. Not that -they aren't- already doing that or thinking of doing it, it just hard to be motivated when nintendo literally wants me to give up buying physical games-- a process that does more than just benefit nintendo (It actually does benefit the retailers and people involved in the shipping process if you buy the physical copy. Plus you actually own it and can pass the product down to future generations or sell it if the need arises).
While I like the concept of mynintendo, I'd much rather have good ole club nintendo's codes back so I can get more useless products I don't really need.
@Giygas_95 Yeah how dare his name like it is suppose to be. Not like the damn game doesn't give you his name's pronunciation right there when all the damn YOH SHEEs start SAYING YOH SHEE outloud or anything.
The only franchise that I felt like the experimentation ruined was Pikmin. By removing the ability to control the pikmin with the other analogue stick, they over simplified it. They transformed a real time strategy game into a cutesy exploration game where the pikmin just kind of become ammo more than anything.
I don't know what is worse, the people annoyed this isn't an announcement of something they want or the 'know it alls' that have to post a novel in response to try and make the nay-sayers look stupid.
If someone wants to be annoyed by something like this, let them. Sure it is their own fault for getting excited over something without understanding what the announcement was going to be, but still, I think someone over-emphasizing "BIG BIG NEWS" like "SUPER DUPER BIG GAIZ" is easy to take the wrong way.
And I'd hardly ever call Minecraft anything remotely close to 'indie' anymore. So people to assume that something that was actually indie to be announced are not in the wrong.
Residuals aren't something that I'll ever be okay with, personally. It'd be like having to pay a company that sold you paint for your piece of art a fraction of the profits because it was their paints that were used.
I find it more annoying that people throw money at game CLONES instead of at actual, new, interesting concepts-- but that is just me. I think I've seen about 3 kickstarters where the game idea was fresh and different. Most the others are washed up developers begging fans to help them fund a ripoff of their previous work. Not much cup of tea.
I own a collectible store. We do okay, we aren't rich by any means. Beside us is a doughnut shop, it sells out by eleven. The money that doughnut shop makes is insane, but doughnuts are not collectibles.
That is the same attitude Nintendo and Sony should have about cellphone games. Cellphone games are not the same animal as handheld gaming. You'll never be playing a proper monster hunter game on a cellphone and that is fine. If I closed my collectible store to open a doughnut shop for the insane doughnut profits, I'd be alienating the hell out of my customers.
All gaming needs to realize this-- yes, mainstreaming things will make you more money but at what cost? There will always be a market for dedicated handheld gaming. Corporations just need to get their heads out of their asses and stop worrying about what money they COULD be making and worry about making the products they have as good as possible. If something is good, it will always make its money back in the end.
Releasing weaker consoles after the fact is a death sentence in this market. But then again, at this stage, they just need to produce hardware that can fill the boots that third party companies need.
Or this guy could be a paid mole used to smear a company. Shit happens all the time, the smear campaign sony used to help destroy the dreamcast.... people seem to forget that.
Well considering that the Wii-u isn't doing all that bad in Japan, I think the NX is going to be targeted toward western audiences. There is a good chance, like with all big name consoles produced by rival companies, it'll have a bunch of useless chicken nuggets added to it to try to justify its existence outside of a time killer.
Just as long as the damn thing has the same kind of capture technology as the PS4 and xboxone I'll be happy.
Saying nintendo is needs to be 'tougher' with miiverse bans is like saying Hitler needed to be tougher on the jews.
I had an account banned for drawing the cover art of Monster Hunter 3 ultimate because it was marked as spoilers. The cover-art... spoilers. Yeah. It doesn't need to be any tougher.
"OH NO! NINTENDO'S E3 SUCKED" everyone's E3 sucks when you're expecting everything you ever wanted to be announced all on the same day.
That being stated, NIntendo, in all my years following E3 religiously (being at about 12-14 years give or take) has almost ALWAYS had bad E3s. The NIntendo Direct methodology is far better for them and I get far more excited for a Direct video than an E3 montage any day.
But still, we all know that Nintendo and Sony both usually kill it at Tokyo Game Show, which in my opinion, is almost always about ten times better than E3.
Virtual reality is fun, its just not marketable yet. The oculus and other virtual reality units are heavy, uncomfortable to wear, and hurt if you use them for to long. Technology gets smaller as years go on, maybe in three or four years things like the oculus will be as big as sunglasses and regular headphones, but until then, its still clunky and hard to sell.
Considering the Wii-u has had Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Bayonetta and Monster Hunter 3, I'd hardly say it hasn't gotten good software library.
Lets consider the wii, or the gamecube, in which it took about four or five years to build such a repertoire. I think people are just entitled cry babies. They don't remember the huge software droughts of past consoles. I sure as hell remember how awful it was to own a ps3 or an xbox360 on launch year. PS3 was worse, it took 3 years to get anything worth playing.
Come off it Prime fans. Seriously. Metroid prime got a trilogy and a DS game, StarFox fans are seemingly never going to get a proper starfox rail shooting sequel. Don't even get me started on how screwed Mother fans are.

@kobashi100 There is plenty of downside to it, development time being put into a character that gets way to much attention.
Don't come in here all high and mighty-- Ryu doesn't belong in Smash Bros. At least Konami pretended to support nintendo in the gamecube era, Capcom has all but disconnected itself. There is absolutely NO point in having Ryu in Smash Bros. If this is real, I'm going to be sick.

Retro was able to make Metroid prime look fantastic on the gamecube, despite the 'disc limitations' and the hardware limitations. ZOE2 on the PS2 still is one of the best looking games of any generation. The 'we can't get it to work' excuse is just that, its an excuse. Means they fail. Ignore the artist that can paint a giant mural, pay attention to the one who can paint a detailed piece on a postage stamp.
