Re: Random: Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack' Trailer Is Now Its Most Disliked YouTube Video Ever

AugustusOxy

You know, I never thought I'd say this, but this is one of those instances where mainstream media is right. Gamers are toxic and entitled.

Videos of children being abused? No.

Videos of animals being abused? No.

Getting free dlc and a library of n64 games for as little as 10 dollars a year-- well, I guess that makes Nintendo basically hitler. You all really need to re-evaluate your lives.

Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?

AugustusOxy

Once again.

If you think getting all these n64 games, all the snes games, all the genesis games, and the animal crossing dlc and potentially lots more dlc from other games is a bad deal, you're stupid. Not only are you stupid, you have no idea what a good deal is.

Specially if you're like me, have it set up with 7 of my friends and family on a family plan, after doing the math its basically 10 bucks a year per person to have access to all this. Compare that to ya know, sony and microsofts online services that cost waaaay more. But hey, nintendo can't win for losing.

There was a time where it cost over 50 bucks a year just to have basic online gaming for xbox. Prior to that, you had to pay between 10 and 20 bucks a month to just play certain games online on pc.

Imagine being mad about what, a 50 some dollar price tag for an online gaming service is a bad deal when you get all these bonuses?

NB4 BUT SONY AND MICROSOFT GIVE YOU FREE FULL GAMES.

Yes, 2 or 3 years after the game had come out and is in the bargain bin at your local game store. I love being able to play some random 15 dollar game years after its sequel has came out lol.

"Yeah but nintendo is charging us to rent old games" and hulu, netflix, disney plus, hbo max, amazon prime video ect do the same with movies. What the hell is your point? 15 bucks a month to have the pricier video streaming services, that's nearly 200 bucks a year to 'rent' those shows..

"But it doesn't even have real voice chat"

As if any of you'd actually -use- the voice chat. Don't act like you would, you totally wouldnt. Also, its current year, who uses dedicated console/in game voice chat? We have phones and dedicated PC apps for voice chat. And lets pretend it had dedicated in console voice chat, you'd just complain about how toxic the online players were anyway.

This all boils down to anti nintendo bias. Nintendo does something that other companies have been doing for a decade, they catch hell. I think this is one of the best things they've done in a long time.

Yes, I'd much rather prefer some way to buy some of these games outright and not have to have my system check online for it, but even then, to get all these games, dlc, and potential other future perks for this price point-- its not a bad deal, you're just a sour grape sucking grump who's mad as hell about non-issues.

Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer' Is Generating A Lot Of Dislikes

AugustusOxy

This species is doomed.

for 80 bucks year, you and like7 of your friends can have access to free dlc, online n64 games, and other perks.

That's like 10 bucks per person per year.

The same kind of people who cry this is 'renting a game' have spent thousands on hulu, netflix, hbo max, disney plus, ect, not to mention how much they spend on steam-- and yes, you don't own digital products. You've never owned digital products, just cuz you can get a game for cheap on steam doesnt mean you own it. Not by the legal definition of ownership, or the common sense definition of it. All it'd take is one really good cyber attack for steam to fall apart, all of their data to be wiped, and if your computer breaks-- you lose all your steam games. So no, you don't own digital products.

Why is it a problem when nintendo does this stuff, and does it cheaply, cheaper than anyone else, but when microsoft, sony, or steam does it its not an issue?

This all boils down to hardcore anti nintendo bias. "But its a crappy online service, it doesn't even have voice chat!" As if you'd use the voice chat anyway. Shut up.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Final Fighter Is... Kingdom Hearts' Sora!

AugustusOxy

The amount of money they had to pay just to have the Mickey Ears in there could have been spent on a whole third fighter pass worth of more relevant characters. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't completely disgusted.

This isn't a 'hoes mad' situation, its a horrible waste of money for a franchise that hasn't even sold one fourth the amount of something like Just Dance.

Re: Metroid Dread Has Been Leaked Online Ahead Of This Week's Launch

AugustusOxy

I worked in distribution for a long time, not of video games, but of other products; mostly toys.

Street date breaks happen all he time, they're part of the business, and someone always leaks stuff online before launch.

Getting super upset about it wont stop it from happening and if anything, it shows the massive amount of interest in the product.

Yes leaked pirated versions of things can hurt sales, that goes without saying, but like thinking we could live in a world where this stuff doesn't happen is just fantasy.

Re: #ThankYouSakurai Gains Traction On Social Media Ahead Of The Final Smash Bros. Fighter Reveal

AugustusOxy

I thanked him when I bought the game twice, and when I bought the dlc.

This stuff is as toxic as ever, a great way to distract from any potential justified disappointment (see thank you gamefreak during the sword and shield controversy) and an example of how polluted the minds of consumers have become. You thank Sakurai by giving him the money that allows him to have two 75 inch tvs right beside each other in his beautiful studio apartment.

Also, if you MUST thank someone, thank the bandai namco workers who worked under him for the last ten years.

Re: Blizzard Outlines Plans To Rename Popular Overwatch Character

AugustusOxy

This will fix nothing and the people who defend decisions like this are part of the problem and the people who get super angry about it and argue with them are part of the problem. You see this kind of stuff is done to keep every one distracted with nonsense like this instead of paying attention to the real issues; the alleged harassment. lol

This is how so many of these companies get themselves out of hotwater. They basically piss everyone off with nonsense PR stunts like this.

Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down

AugustusOxy

Imagine having game making skills and using it to copy something else instead of making your own game.

These people are talented, make your own metroidvania style game, charge 20 bucks for it, and I'll buy it and support you.

Ill put it like this, all these people who get pissy with nintendo for doing this.

Imagine if nintendo stole your IP, you as a small creator, and released it without your permission and started profiting from it. You'd probably be pretty upset.

Also if you make this stuff, host it on your own site and make ad revenue from it or take donations, you're literally profiting from their IP.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Looks Lovely, But May Also Disappoint

AugustusOxy

Imagine thinking Nintendo would make a more powerful switch for no other reason besides for 4k visuals during a chip shortage in the middle of a global pandemic.

I had a feeling the new switch would just have an OLED screen and some slight improvements.

If they do do a '4k' thing, it'll be a dock that has some processing power in it in order to-- at the least upscale to 4k. Its just not a priority for them.

Re: Poll: How Hyped Are You For Nintendo's E3 Direct?

AugustusOxy

I'm not.

Here's why

Global shut down's lag effect is starting to show through in many industries, so we all need to be prepared in huge gaps of movies, shows, video games. So far this E3 has shown that as well as how few movies are actually coming out, how so many toy releases get delayed ect.

Secondly; its more than likely just gonna be breath of the wild 2 and the smash fighter reveals. As cool as those things are, I'd much rather see some new stuff.

And thirdly; they'll probably spend waaay too much time explaining splatoon 3 to us, as if we even need to know what it is and how it operates.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Is About To Become Capcom's Best-Selling Single-Platform Game

AugustusOxy

And Monster Hunter World only sold well because of its deceptive e3 trailer that made people think it was another over the shoulder ps4 style walking simulator, when they realized its a completely different kind of game they traded it in. I remember my friends working at gamestop saying its the most traded in game they ever seen.

And there's gonna be people being like "YEAH WELL IT STILL SOLD WELL" sure, that's fine, too bad those sales dropped off with iceborne. Iceborne did about ten million less in copies sold. SoooooooOOOoooo shows you that World was mostly bought by people who were curious about it, but if they don't return for future installments of the franchise, it was kind of a wasted experiment.

And I'm a huge mh fan, but I'm glad Rise is selling as well as it is. Good to see it surpassing iceborne, hopefully capcom will realize their mistake of trying to westernize the game so much.

Re: Random: Reggie Says He's Got An English Version Of Mother 3, But Still Hasn't Played It

AugustusOxy

I played about 6 and ahalf hours of mother 3 and got tired of allt he communist nonsense in the game. Did the director of that game really imply that before capitalism no one had to work everyday? That kind of eye in the sky nonsense really ruined the whole experience for me, it took me out of the game completely. Def. prefer Mother 2, it has the same kind of anti capitalist nonsense in it but at least its a whole lot subtler and not completely out of touch.

Re: Global Sales Data Suggests Balan Wonderworld Has Massively Flopped

AugustusOxy

I think if someone really looked into this game, they'd see how its a situation where the developer, director, whoever, had the art style and premise first before they even worked on the mechanics.

I can tell you straight up, thats absolutely not the right way to make a game. Its one of the reason why there's so may god awful 'inspired' indy games out here. Make game mechanics that work and are good first and most importantly are fun, then figure out the aesthetic and story.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Ships Four Million Units In Opening Weekend

AugustusOxy

Yes, because world had a deceptive E3 trailer that made it look like a PS4 style over the shoulder walking simulator and when normies got it, they hated it, and traded it in.

Don't believe me, look at Iceborne's sales vs World's sales, all the 'new players' they got from world dropped off.

The only reason world sold well was because it lied about what it was to a bunch of people who bought it thinking they were getting Shadow of War: Monster edition.

Re: New Switch Model Could Launch For $399, Analysts Suggest

AugustusOxy

Better resolution does not make a better system.

Give us blutooth, better joycons, a proprietary stylus that works with the system (some of us aren't neanderthals and like to touch our screens with our fingers) and at least 100gbs of solid state internal storage. Oh and a little more ram would be nice.

Oh and pro controllers with headphone jacks would be nice.

Re: Poll: Do You Like The Chibi Art Style In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl?

AugustusOxy

I love the art style- just not for a remake of Diamond And Pearl.

This looks like a reskin with new graphics, like they started trying to make a real modern pokemon game with the arceus legend thing, realized it was a lot of work, cut it down to a smaller project and just rushed this new thing out. It literally looks like a one for one remake, which sure, that's fine-- but who's it for?

Seriously? New people that got into pokmeon via all the new games and go?

The classic fans who wanted to play diamond and pearl with graphics akin to sword and shield?

Didn't think so. As cute as this is, I hope it fails hard. Gamefreak needs its majority hsares bought out by nintendo, then completely restructured as a company. THey have no clue what they're doing.

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

AugustusOxy

None of this would be a problem if anyone used their natural critical thinking skills.

I remember when Yooka Laylee was in production, literal thousands of pieces of fanart were created for a game these people hadn't even played yet. I made a comment on that and people chewed me the hell out-- how can you be a fan of something you haven't played?

Same goes with Cyberpunk. Got friends cosplaying the characters from a game they haven't even played yet.

That's blind hype.

Re: Ori Director Criticises "Snake Oil Salesmen" Behind No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, And Fable

AugustusOxy

Imagine believing that game journalists tailor their reviews in a positive way to avoid 'gamer rage'. Whoever said that smokes ultra crack.

Journalists tailor gamer reviews for the publisher, so they can keep their jobs and anytime someone brings it up, they get labeled as a bad person and part of some 'hate group', but its been proven true so many times that I can't even count it.

Hype culture is the problem. I remember with Yooka Laylee got announced and the months after people were drawing fanart and all sorts ofother stuff and I questioned 'why? You haven't even played this game yet?" And they'd get all mad at me.

Then it came out and it was just bleh. Hype culture, same goes for Cyberpunk. I remember not caring the slightest about it but having people tell me it was gonna be the greatest thing ever-- they'd tell me this with zero gameplay footage. Hype culture is the problem.

I actually think from a design standpoint, if Peter Molyneux is controlled by a publisher, I.E. like he was with the first Fable game, the man is really good at his craft, he just has a big mouth and should keep it shut until features are fully fleshed out. Molyneux has always had an interesting way of making games because he's not actually a programer, he's just a dude.

As for the dev from Ori, I don't think he's wrong in a lot of the things he's saying, but there is def. some level of sour grapes playing into it. But people are stupid, they wanna be blindly hyped for the next big thing. The best part is, hype culture is designed so they never have enough time to be angry about the ripoff before the next big hype train gets them excited and its business as usual.

Re: Nintendo Consoles Are Aimed At "Kids And Teens" Says Sega's Toshihiro Nagoshi In Disputed Translation

AugustusOxy

Aimed at doesn't mean that's the audience, Nintendo games notoriously have a 30 year old demographic while games like GTA and Call of Duty have a young teen to literal child age range.

Colorful characters don't always attract children, contrary to popular belief. Pixar films make more money from adult ticket sales than children ticket sales, that's all I'm gonna say.

Re: Nintendo Cancels Splatoon 2 NA Open Livestream, "Free Melee" Believed To Have Played A Part

AugustusOxy

@Noid

The excuse is that by collaborating with these 'fans' they'd be basically saying its okay profit from piracy of their product. Its business 101. The tournament would have been using pirated smash bros games in order to play the game online and the big house would reap the rewards of that.

I love how like Soulja Boy sells pirated nintendo software and you all report his butt to the Big N, but the moment some organization you like does the same thing its not a problem?

Think with your head, No paid online melee tournaments, its as simple as that, don't like it, tough cookies. All the 'free melee' people are being incredibly entitled and tone deaf to how the real world works.

Re: Soapbox: If The Smash Community Wants To #SaveSmash, It Needs To Start From Within

AugustusOxy

Hoo boi we got some grade A deflection here.

Smash has what, an estimated 20 fans world wide.

We got like what, known 8 of the people in higher epsilon of the community doing bad *****, completely negating the ya know, thousands of others in the higher epsilons of the community that don't do any of that disgusting nonsense.

There's a phrase in the military that goes something like; if there's 10000 men on base camp and only 2 of them are jerks-- they'll find each other.

What it means is that bad people tend to congregate and it has nothing to do with the majority.

I hate these kinds of like "oh smash has problems" its a popular thing-- popular things are more scrutinized by the public, have a higher chance of having more jerks like it because well, the laws of averages.

I see so much good in the smash community that its crazy, yes, there's a lot of vocal jerks online with it, but compared to something like the Sherlock or Dr Who Fandom, they're quite tame, despite being far more numerous.

With that said-- the tournament using illegally copied software to make money from-- I don't feel bad for them for nintendo shutting them down. Imagine if you're like I dunno, Ubisoft and you set up a event for the next assassin's creed and then some group of fans setup shop outside the venue and start selling bootleg Asassin creed figures, games, t-shirts, ect.

Play the game the way its meant to be played if you're going to profit from it, if its a free tournament, then yeah nintendo should keep their nose out of it.

In short, this article deflects from a real business issue with moral issues to try to make one of the coolest communities of people I've ever belonged to look bad so that the company that helps pay their bills looks better by comparison-- instead of just stating the obvious-- the guys running the online tournament were using pirated crap and should have gotten a cease and desist.
End of conversation.

Re: Talking Point: What Do Abuse Scandals Say About The Smash Bros. Community, And Its Future?

AugustusOxy

It doesn't say anything about the smash community, tens of millions of players and like what, maybe ten of them are known sickos. You take tens of millions of people of any group and by the very laws of common sense and basic math, some will be *****. People in positions of notoriety and power often times abuse their notoriety and/or power. This is not exclusive to video games, its not exclusive to anything. Its humanity, we have bad eggs, that's why we deal with them when we find them and weed them out.

Re: Latest Update For Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fixes Major Issue Impacting Game Balance

AugustusOxy

@DarthKirby

I used to believe this kind of angry, elitist nonsense until I saw my little nephew running around playing with a toy gun as if it were a toy sword and having more fun doing that than I did on my last vacation. However someone wants to play with something is their own business and if it isn't actually screwing with other players, then let them play it the way they want to.

Re: Random: Bandai Namco Twitter Account Complains About Animal Crossing, Tweet Quickly Deleted

AugustusOxy

He aint wrong, but I feel like this was suppose to be a personal tweet and not a company one lol.

My major complaint with the game is this...

Some of us really, really, really don't care about customizing the exterior, I'd rather have bigger houses that I can customize than having an exterior I can screw with. Maybe I need a bigger god complex to enjoy that sort of thing, but I've always preferred decorating my house over customizing my town.
