Update:
It's been confirmed in a Microsoft live stream that the Wii U Edition of Minecraft will get a physical retail release 'later', but is eShop only - as expected - on 17th December.
Original Article:
Just before Nintendo's November Direct a PEGI rating emerged for Minecraft on Wii U. It never appeared in the Direct, however, and with the rating since disappearing from the PEGI website there was undoubtedly some confusion; thankfully that rating disappearance only pointed to a delay.
Nintendo has now confirmed that Minecraft: Wii U Edition will hit the eShop on 17th December in North America and Europe, with a price of $29.99 in the US. It'll have off-TV play, naturally, while the following add-on packs will be included for free.
- Battle & Beasts Skin Pack
- Battle & Beasts 2 Skin Pack
- Natural Texture Pack
- City Texture Pack
- Fantasy Texture Pack
- Festive Mash-up Pack
There'll also be 16 packs available for purchase right away on the eShop with more promised in the future, though pricing hasn't been given at the time of writing.
- Festive Skin Pack
- The Simpsons Skin Pack
- Doctor Who Skins Volume 1
- Doctor Who Skins Volume 2
- Star Wars Classic Skin Pack
- Star Wars Rebels Skin Pack
- Star Wars Prequel Skin Pack
- Mass Effect Mash-up Pack
- Skyrim Mash-up Pack
- Plastic Texture Pack
- Candy Texture Pack
- Cartoon Texture Pack
- Steampunk Texture Pack
- Pattern Texture Pack
- Greek Mythology Mash-up Pack
- Halloween 2015 Mash-up Pack
Best of all "Nintendo and Mojang are also collaborating on new content for Nintendo fans to be released at a future date"; it'll be interesting to see what form that'll take.
Are you excited about Minecraft finally coming to Wii U, or is it too late? Let us know in the comments below.

Wow, it's about time. I know some kids who will be hyped for this.
How is it too little?
Minecraft isn't really my type of game so I hope it's not the "Big Announcement"
Looks like the PEGI leak was correct.
@manu0 Fair point well made.
I hope it's optimised for the wii U with the menu all on the game pad when playing on the TV. I wonder if it'll be possible to import the world from my phone?
Woop woop! But pricier than I imagined (that's more than the other versions isn't it? I got the ps3 edition disc for under £15) but still great to see!
@Politoed: Seconded. I was about to say the exact same thing. I don't care much about Minecraft, so I hope it's not the big announcement.
I'm assuming this is the big announcement that was mentioned. And they're collaborating so...amiibo support in the future?
I really hope that this isn't the "big news". I was betting on the news being final Fantasy 7 remake coming to wii u. And maybe Kingdom Hearts 3 coming to the nx.
Off-TV -> Perfect
So that was big news for monday.. Disappointed
Is this the big announcement today?
Oh - my - god! I'm so excited! It finally happens.
Link's retro costume from Triforce Heroes as Nintendo add-on. Calling it.
Finaly! Day one.
@WebHead Amiibo skins would be an instabuy here. No question.
Lol, of course this is the big announcement!
Wow, I was quite surprised. Wonder if this will sell well.
I might grab it. It will depend on the quality of the port, and how it will utilize the gamepad.
We'll double-dip once again here. Day 1. The kids demands this on the Wii U, although they already have it on PC and iPad.
Seriously, this game MUST have free amiibo skins.
No doubt in my mind that it's the announcement. Keep in mind just who teased it!
That said, the higher price is stupid but it does come with those free packs so I guess it's worth it if you wanted those. I won't be buying, since it's not like the collaboration will be anything that can't be done on PC with mods.
Doctor Who skins ? Okay I'm in !
(Even tough $30 for the game is a bit too much since that's the price of the PC version. $20 would have been better but I guess it's fine.)
Wth that price I'll probably be waiting a while before I buy the game.
Oh well, there's Fast Racing Neo! 😆😆😆
Also, is this the big news Baker was talking about?
EDIT: Guess the answer's pretty obvious LOL. I'm not too stoked about Minecraft but I guess bringing a game with a huge audience and success such as this one is a pretty big deal.
Also, those that were expecting Smash... triple facepalm.
Finally great news my kids are going to love this
So this is actual Minecraft and not "Story mode" right? Also, $30 is a bit much when it is cheaper on everything else. I won't be buying this if it costs that much (even more so that it'll probably be $35-$40 CAD).
Wow, no video? No promotion, no mention in a Direct? And it's coming in 10 days?
OK, pretty big news then! I'm not into it myself but this is a big deal for Nintendo.
Ouch. $10 more than Xbox and Playstation? Still glad we have it though! Any neway for how many controllers supported? 5 hopefully?
Good thing I didn't get my hopes up.
..might still get this at some point though. Maybe.
If they make some Minecraft Amiibo and allow use of most or all other Amiibo and have a bundle, this could be massive.
@RCMADIAX It's the cost of the following:
And so on and so forth.
I love Minecraft, buts it too late and too expensive. At this point, I already have it on my PC, PS4, PS3, Vita, phone, watch, toaster.... If Nintendo had an achievement system, I'd buy it again for that, but this needed to be out 2 years ago to be relevant.
Is this the "big news"? Hope not
@Discipledoctor off screen play on the gamepad? iPad hasn't got any sticks or buttons.
I'm happy for all five people that didn't already have a device capable of playing this but own a Wii U.
This was the big announcement... got it on PC, Android and 360. Seems that its just too late to the party, unless this becomes the ultimate version of the game I cant see why I need to pay as much as that. if it was half the amount it may have been worth picking up but as I see it, its just too expensive to justify buying a 4th version.
SINGS: HALLELUJAH!
"Nintendo and Mojang are also collaborating on new content for Nintendo fans to be released at a future date"
... Please be amiibo... Please be amiibo...
Good to see this finally out on the Wii. Very popular game in our household but, as we've already spent £17 on the PC version and £5 on the iOS version unfortunately I can't justify what will probably be another £20 on the Wii U.
Now if they'd managed to do it in 3D on the 3DS I'd have been queueing up to buy...
ugh, guess this was the big not BIG announcement. wah wah..... it's nice for those who care, otherwise doesn't do much for me.
Kind of pricey, even though it comes with all of this additional stuff. Why not offer a bare-bones, "basic" package for less in addition to this "collector's edition?"
Even if it's a little late to the party, you have to admit - this is a huge third-party release for the Wii U in a time when third party support is next to dead. Kudos to Nintendo for (finally) pulling this off.
And why wasn't this in the Direct last month?
I hope this wasn't the big announcement from a selfish point of view.
Also - "Nintendo and Mojang are also collaborating on new content for Nintendo fans to be released at a future date"
So some sort of Nintendo/Minecraft mashup. Minecraft-styled Nintendo amiibo? Or Super Mario Maker 3D?
@ThomasBW84, where did you get this information? I don't see a source.
Yet again pricing causes me to check my hype at the door. £15 or under and its in the basket. I'll be biding my time on this one I suspect. Glad it's come though, but it's s bit late for Christmas in terms of convincing families they should get a Wii U as it has Minecraft - should have been released in November, if not 2012.
@bngrybt
Yours?
Mine too.
If people think that Smash or something big was going to be it, 2 things.
1. It was by an indie rep. If it was something big, a Nintendo rep would say it.
2. Smash was most likely not going to be it. If it was airing today, they would have annouced it beforehand. Plus if they were to talk about Smash, it would be a release date, not the actual brodcast.
As for the announcement. It's alright.
$30 is a bit much, but if the game performs well (locked at 60fps), I will get it.
Cool news. I may finally give Minecraft an honest whirl at some point as the gamepad seems perfect for it. Not now, though, as I barely even started the mammoth that is Xenoblade X.
That price.... :S
Damon Baker should have shut up instead of creating hype, if this was it. The 'big announcement' had already been leaked several weeks back
@Politoed : I really hope this isn't the big announcement too. Maybe not since its already leaked.
will be getting this. My son loves Minecraft so I will get it for him. It will be much easier for him to play instead of playing it on the iPod
How much do add-on packs typically sell for on PC? Double it for the eshop no doubt...
Anybody knows if it has local coop?
Online play?
I'm happy it's coming. I already have the game on PC, 360 & Xbone so I might skip this one, unless the game pad offers something cool and unique.
Typical for Nintendo versions, it is over priced and arriving way later than everywhere else. I'm half expecting them to announce that the worlds are tiny and there's no online or something.
This better not be the big announcement. Minecraft has been other consoles forever. Im disappointed again by Nintendos stupidity if this is it.
$30? That's... kinda sad. And in Canada it'll be $35 or so... what exactly warrents the price hike? I guess the free texture packs kinda do...
Still, nice to see it's real. If it has the same features and if the world size is decent, I'll probably still get it.
That said, I want to see the Smash Direct first. I may need to direct (no pun intended) funds towards any content coming from that first.
Good news for all who wanted it, but I'm a little disappointed this was the 'big new'
Too pricey compared to most other versions even with the few packs bundled with it but nice to see Nintendo finally get a version of Minecraft. I might pick this up when on sale.
@rejer So my Monday news prediction may have been spot on unless there is more to come?
Took them long enough.
Definitely want to see more details, but I'm impressed this happened. Microsoft really is treating Minecraft like its own platform. This probably means an NX version will be coming as well so good for them. It would be pretty bad to be left out of this ultimately.
It could have done so much more for the Wii U platform even a year ago, though. Especially if Nintendo/Mojang/Microsoft finds ways to differentiate. (I guess GamePad for inventory crafting is already a big differentiator from the other console versions.)
There will be major disappointment if this doesn't have great support for local play. The big question is will it do dual screen play. (GamePad and TV player having their own perspective.)
$30 price doesn't bother me in the slightest. The value per hour compared to other games is astronomical. Not sure what the whining is about. This is going to be updated over time with many free upgrades, too. I guess for those who plan to buy many additional skins it's pretty high.
Anyway, the details will be important.
Already played it too death on the PC but I am sure my son will love it, Is there any mention of what gamepad features there will be besides from off tv play?
Since Nintendo announces things ahead of time in press releases I assume this is the big announcement. It is about time for this. I have a version of this on my phone but if I didn't I would nog really care for this game. It should do a lot of sales though so I suppose that's something.
Disappointed in the price. Not sure how much "value" the six free add-on packs actually provide - maybe pricing isn't as bad as it seems - but also expecting it to be even more expensive than the listed price in Canada. Hard sell when every other console version costs $20.
Disappointed in the timing, because this should have happened at (or at least close to) launch if Nintendo wanted it to be a big deal. Instead anyone who wants Minecraft has almost certainly found a way to play already since it's available on almost any non-Nintendo device.
However, still glad it's happening and am likely to buy. We were going to get Minecraft for Christmas for my daughter - previously planned to get the Vita version and play on PSTV, but would much rather have it on our Wii U. As long as the port isn't flawed (fingers crossed) we'll be enjoying it on the TV over the holidays.
@Pokefanmum82 iPod, iPad and iPhone versions are pocket edition versions of minecraft not full version. So for your son it's a win. And gamepad should work great for inventory. But like someone said.. Minecraft is everywhere already.. Coming to tosters soon and 10$ higher price doesn't help.
My son is eight years old and Minecraft is absolutely huge among him and his friends. He comes running up to to me and says, "Daddy do you know...." and I cut in and ask, "Is this going to be another Minecraft related fact?". It always is.
REALLY THAT WAS IT. Oh Nintendo....
claps So much for being owned by Microsoft.
@CroRock we have a computer but I don't let my kids use it. We only have a Wii and a Wii U. that's why I'm excited for this. I don't care about the price. $30 is not that expensive compared to other games on the Wii U.
Too late, fad mostly over.
If this is a big announcement according to Nintendo, then I don't want to know what they consider to be a small announcement.
Uninspiring news in all honesty!
All the other versions be $20, either way I will be getting it once I got people to play with maybe, only fun if ya got people to play with I think.
Now I want to see the expression on the faces of the developpers of UCraft and the other clones from Minecraft...
I think, this is indeed a big announcement.
It was obvious, that a big indie game would be announced, because DAMON BAKER, the boss of Nintendo's Indiegame department announced this news.
Okay. People who aren't fans of Minecraft, I get it. This news doesn't excite you. But boy, think beyond yourselves. This truly is big news for Nintendo. A game that a lot of kids (and formerly adults, though big kids still get a kick out of it) play on a console that appeals to a primarily non-M rated audience is solid news. It's too bad it wasn't featured in the Direct.
Oh the people here in the comments...
Bit depressing if this is the big news from today, which it seems like it is. This game has been out forever on other platforms. I can't understand how those whom wanted to play it haven't already -Unless they only ever use Nintendo hardware. I love Nintendo (although Its a lot lot harder to maintain at present) But this is like Mircosoft announcing a big announcement that the final fantasy remake its being ported to XBOX ONE 5 years after PS4. Whats happening to Nintendo. To those that want it on Wii U however, congratulations I am sure it will be awesome with the dual screen set up.
Better late than never .
Too late and too expensive to matter.
Each texture pack costs 99 cents on the other consoles.
So that is $5.94 — or almost 60% of the price difference.
I imagine technical matters — and the smaller install base (meaning there are less possible sales, so you can't do a volume discount) — are other reasons for the price differential.
I now know what to buy myself for my birthday.
Splitscreen local play and/or online play please.
This is neat and everything, but I really hope that this isn't the 'big announcement'.
It's a little late in the game for this to be big news. It's like, every other console (and for that matter every device powerful enough to play a version of Minecraft on) got to eat this amazing cake and have been enjoying it for a long time. Now that the cake is all gone, Nintendo gamers get to lick the bowl. Only the bowl's been sitting out for years...
Actually with the packs included with the game, it is fairly priced, as those six packs usually cost $2 a piece. So if they are included then that is nice. Maybe Steve will be a character in smash. I would love to see the ability to play the game on the tablet and the other person being on the TV.
The big news is that Steve is going to be an ounce for Smash
@mike_intv your forgetting that skin packs cost a dollar more.
why kids be playing so much minecraft?
lol at everyone that got hyped up for nothing. lol at your expectations getting crushed.
"Halloween 2015 Mash-up Pack" as DLC? I guess they wanted to launch sooner but failed a lot check or something else. Reminds me of that time when a Christmas themed WiiWare game came out shortly after Christmas.
The guy who teased this was their indie guy. It was said during a podcast. What did people expect? You can't blame Nintendo on this one, it was forums and website that blew it up and started to overhype it.
will buy when it got coop options, otherwise, pass.
$15 = Instant Purchase for Kids.
$30 = Mixed emotions. We already have it for PS3, iOS, Android and PC. I have 5 kids... all versions get used... we were always hoping for this one because we have 4 controllers and Wii U is overall the best experience for us.... this is a bit of a $ bummer. Hope that changes.
Well, glad the wait is over. I'll be heading back to Mira to continue saving humanity.
Better late than never
I wonder how well this will do, surely everybody in the world already has this game in some form or another.
On paper Minecraft fits the Wii U's tablet based, family friendly image like hand in glove.
In reality most Wii U's are owned by thirty something (me included) guys who don't really understand Minecraft as a game and want to play Zelda and Starfox sooner than later. Good to see more 3rd party support though.
I was considering picking up this game for my kids this Christmas.. but as a previous ppster has mentioned, with all other console versions being $10 cheaper, I am hesitating to buy it for the Wii U. I think Story Mode comes out in June as well, at least according to Target's site... which is great, but the delay between consoles just makes me think that unless Wii U is a home's only console..people might already own Story Mode as well. :/ What odd timing for a game, but good news is good news, I guess.
@ThomasBW84

has a mini freak-out
Okay I'm good. Yeah, I'd love to get this. It's about time.
@defrb Four player local, eight player online according to Mojang.
My kids will flip for this. As much as they value this game the price will not be an issue. Of course it will be nice if it will be possible to play off tv and tv for 2 players. Fingers crossed.
Can´t be the "big announcement", come on Nintendo. Surprise me!
@Tsurii I've got it on PC, Xbone, and iOS. I'll be getting it here too. $10 more for the game really isn't that much more. I think it has been generallyunderpriced anyway so it's fine. I don't mind paying a little extra to support Nintendo and Mojang/4J & Microsoft??
Now when this fails to burn up the charts and bring in the big money who are they going to blame? Nintendo because only first party games blah blah blah... WiiU owners for one thing or another... Who knows, but they certainly won't think it's anything to do with the fact that it's available on everything else, available at a much better price or even the fact that those of us who got sick and tired of waiting for a wiiu version may well have picked up one of the other similar titles on the eShop.
Methinks Mojang saw the big Wii U Black Friday sales numbers out of Target and thought, "Why not make more money?"
@the-madprofessor Thanks! Day-one purchase.
Local multiplayer? Online Multiplayer? If this is coming to WiiU then these are must haves
This will be the closest thing to playing Skyrim we'll ever get on the wii u. Lol
though, I still think the big announcement will be regarding My Nintendo
@daveh30 pretty much my thinking as well.
Maybe this is the big announcement!
I mean, it's good and all, but this comes way, way too late (and expensive to boot). Nintendo will literally be picking up the scraps with this one. Almost everyone owns this elsewhere. South Park even did an episode on it in 2013, which is now eons ago.
Nintendo wasn't exaggerating about big news on Monday it seems, this is fantastic and 4-player split-screen as well, joy.
@ThomasBW84 Why does it cost more? It's $19.99 on every other platform. Including Vita where it's digital only
Good news for a major 3rd party title to arrive on the Wii U. Though I saw $29.99 and I instantly knew folks were going to start whining about the price. It seems pretty fair to me given the install base of the Wii U and I'm sure there's some additional optimization that needs to go into the this version anyways.
Off tv play makes it an instabuy for me. Gamepad features are just the icing on the cake!
EDIT: "whining" may be too strong of a word, let's just say, "I saw $29.99 and I instantly knew folks were going to be concerned with the price"
They did it. They finally did it.
I hope this wasn't the big news Nintendo had planned
A Mojang programmer talked about how it's "time to plug your Wii U's [sic] back in" on Twitter. Talented as they are, the guys sure aren't humble. Still humbler than the Bethesda boss, though.
@SmaMan LOL, porting a game to a whole new system isn't that fast!
Lol! Some of these comments are hilarious! But guys, this is NOT the big announcement. The actual announcement is................Lemmings for Wii.
@FeedingTheWheel
Lol! That would be awesome.
This is the big announcement?
It's great news - a superpopular 3rd party game coming to WiiU. You people should be happy instead of complaining for the price or the timing or whatever. It certainly makes the WiiU more attractive to potential buyers.
Dunno why people are acting like it's late to come. It's only one year after PS4/Xbox ONE. PS4 is just getting Bit Trip now
@SmaMan Three weeks to port the game? That's pretty impressive.
Never got the appeal of this game. Completely uninterested.
Hope this wasn't the "big announcement"
Wow, I set my expectations pretty goshdarn low too expecting the Nintendo account system, but they still somehow managed to disappoint.
Way to go Nintendo,
@aaronsullivan OK who are you and what gave you done with Aaron? You just told me tester day that Wii U should be $200 b/c it has less value than PS4. Now you areally wondering what all the whining is about when the VERY late to the party Wii U version is 50% more than all the other console versions? Have you gone mad? We don't even know if this is the small PS3 version or the large PS4 version. But either way it's a 5 year old $26.95 game that they are charging $30 for. Forget the whing, that's freaking insane and I really can't believe you don't understand why people are upset with that much of a mark up.
You know what, this game us SO late to the platform it should have been free to start with those 20 or so packs for sale. Everybody still would have spent $20 or $30, but they could st least choose what to buy. $30 plus all of that Day 1 DLC?
OK, my genuine outrage adide, my Mine craft seriously addicted Don will be home at 3:30, when I will tell him Mine craft on Wii U. Then I'll tell him $30. Then IL wash his mouth out with soap. Well not quite sure how to do that with foaming hand soap, we don't do bars. Maybe I'll let it slide for this.
OK I'm done now. Sorry about that sounding like it was directed at you, you know how highly I value your opinions, just disappointed I guess.
OK, why get Mine craft on WI U a week before Christmas but only announce it now? E3 would have been a million times better if they announced Mine craft on Wii U for Christmas. Nintendo logic.
This is a great news people. C'mon... Minecraft is finally heading to Wii U and if the port is handled well it has the potential to be the definitive version. You can imagine the possibilities with the gamepad, they are meant for each other.
Since the announcement few screenshots of the game have been published and having checked the resolution for myself it seems that the Wii U Edition will be running the game natively in 720p, let's hope it has a solid framerate.
Now what's not really great is the Price. It's overpriced comparing to what other platforms are offering the game for. I understand about the Packs but I don't want them, and many others wouldn't want them either. So give people the choice. I don't know if it's gonna do well because nothing is guarenteed but Price it competitively and it's gonna do better. I will not be picking this anytime soon specially with FAST Racing Neo right round the corner, but will definately pick it down the line.
@Sir_JBizzle
I'm sure it took extra work, but until we know more about it, I think the price comments are valid for now. Not only is it late to the party, but it's more expensive as well. It just makes me wonder just how well it can sell, with it already available in so many other places, and cheaper.
@Sir_JBizzle Nice edit. I was all set with my "et tu Bizzle?" reply.
Great, my kids will love this and I'll get my PS4 back during the weekends!
Anyone know if there's gonna be local multiplayer like on the Playstation?
i'll still buy it
@MoonKnight7 It's MineCrack, it will still sell. I bet they could have made more money though if it were free to-start with those 22 DLC packs and Nintendo DLC surely coming. If it's free 11 million people DL it and most of them will spend st least $10 on DLC, maybe $20. Maybe have a $30 package for all of it. Sel, it for $30, many fewer downloads means less DLC sold. And it's 5 years late, try something new.
If it's the PS3 version and not PS4 it's barely worth free. And with PS3 I play in my bedroom on my PS3, my kid in the base,entry on his, that's basically 2 copies and our purchased DLC for 1 price. But the PS4 version seems better.
Can you believe I have never played "Minecraft" on anything ever before? Never too late to begin it would seem.
Now then, can someplace please get Psyonix on the line and tell them I would pay top dolla for "Rocket League" on Wii U? With local 2 player support, one player on the TV and one on the Gamepad.
(takes deep breath) I cant believe it finally happened, I am so excited! wait. I dont have $30, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Give us amiibo skins and i'm fine.
Cool, never played minecraft so will get this, should be a good addition to the family games.
Pleased to see Nintendo catching up with this.
Online and local mutiplayer? - well, Nintendo seem to think so on their product page: http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/minecraft-wii-u-edition
...which claims 4 player split screen local, and 8 player online.
Called the Nintendo content the moment I saw the fold up figures recently.
Will it have touch-screen compatibility?
Some of you need to get out more
@rjejr Haha yeah, I'm not in the business of insulting anyone, so when I re-read that I was like, "Oh that sounds harsher than I intended"
I can understand why folks would be upset in relation to timing and pricing relative to the other platforms, but at the same time it's only $10 more and I'm just going to assume a richer feature set, with Gamepad support being the differentiator (but like @MoonKnight7 said, we don't know much about that portion). Though I pose the question to everyone who says it's way too late to the party: If Microsoft doesn't acquire Mojang late last year, does a Wii U Minecraft ever happen?
@RCMADIAX exactly. Although, I'd much rather have this on Wii U than Xbox One. I don't really let my kids play Xbone too often.
Literally couldn't care less.
THIS better not be the big announcement expected today.
So exciting! I'm seriously in the boat that has wanted this and still does! The new Nintendo content will be sweet, too.
Wow. Both Minecraft and Terraria heading into the holiday. I mean, sure, they've been on consoles for several years now, but hey, those are both noteworthy gets for Nintendo as both of those titles are on fire these days. Now I have to consider if I want Terraria on my 3DS as I had planned before this announcement, or to put those funds towards Minecraft on Wii U instead. Decisions, decisions.......
@dumedum
"Dunno why people are acting like it's late to come. It's only one year after PS4/Xbox ONE."
Because Nintendo kept pounding their chest last holiday saying they had the "family console," all while Xbox and PS4 benefited from it (and on the prior generation before that). Even NL itself stated numerous times that Minecraft was a hugely missed opportunity for launch or soon after.
I mean I'm glad its finally coming, better late than never. However, Nintendo missed a major opportunity at launch, or at the very least, a simultaneous release with PS4 and Xbox.
@mariovslink62 Damon is a Nintendo rep.
@abbyhitter I'm pretty damn excited about it actually!!
@ekreig Yeah, it looks like the gold rush to be the best Minecraft knockoff on the Wii U is officially dead. Off to the 3DS! Though, I feel like the New 3DS may well potentially have it coming in the future.
Wow, I would be really hyped but 30....really? I assume this will be a second dip for most people since everyone in the world owns this game! And another 30 :/ I might skip after all.
@Splatburst Got a good chuckle out of that. Haha. If only it were 2012 when this happened, circa launch.....
I've never been able to get into this game at all, but I can appreciate how amazing it is. I hope those of you who do like it enjoy this version!
One last note out of me: I seriously hope that we get Amiibo support for this. I'd love costumes based on the Amiibo I have. It was easy enough in Mario Maker, I can't imagine how much harder it'd be in Minecraft.
Tbh - this is a perfect Gamepad game. . .
Way too expensive and way too late to make an impact. I hope that isn't the "big" news promised for today. The only thing big about the game is its pricetag. WTF?
@Sir_JBizzle
Yeah that's a fair point about MS's takeover. Who knows really. If I recall though, I don't remember them really being interested in developing for Wii U back when it has it's breakthrough. Its certainly possible that MS, made them do it. I mean, I'm sure it will sell ok, but I argue as to how well it could breakthrough with the higher price point. I just hope there's an ace up their sleeve with this.
@rjejr
Haha, I'm a little surprised by that comment, given that you are usually the first one to bring up price points.
Lol, jk man, I always love your input, whatever it is.
But yeah, like I said to JBizzle, this could be more enhanced hence the reason for the higher price tag, but for now, I will take a more reserved stance until I know more. The Gamepad should suit it well at least.
I wonder if Minecraft and Terrarria developers saw no major releases for Nintendo systems (save for Xenoblade Chronicles X; that game is fantastic and huuuuuuuge) and decided to release them before Christmas to capitalize on the lack of other options. It'll probably be in their benefit releasing them now rather than early spring.
This is also probably the big news announcement mentioned on the NintendoWorldReport interview... Except for the possibility of Smash with the maintenance today. It would also be utterly amazing for Mario Kart 8 to get two more DLC packs in its update as well but, alas, one can dream...
This is the big announcement? Sigh, I tend to forget that NoA's definition of big and the rest of the world's definition of big do not match.
Nice for the people who have been waiting for whatever reason. I don't play this game and my lil bro already has the PC version, so we have no need for this expensive junk.
It's a shame xenoblade maxed out storage... Why no physical copy? The nx better have massive storage so nintendo can actually get people to buy games without having to buy extra hardware.
@manu0 Well I know there are kids who want to get an XBox for Minecraft. Silly I know, but is true.
Welp, I guess this is the big announcement. Also, $30? What?
This should have been on the console a long time ago, but it'sggreat that it's finally happening. It's not a game that interests me though.
They took long enough.
I guess I'll give it a try eventually. It'll be my first time playing it since the beta version so there must be some things different.
Was going to get this on Xbox One the other day, just as well I didn't. If it goes for £20 then, including the add on content, that's pretty much equal to how much that would cost me for buying the same for Xbox One. Just a pity it's not a retail release.
@Moshugan @NoEasyBuckets
Actually, since the XBOX360 runs on a very similar processor as the Wii U, three weeks sounds about right.
Not the biggest Minecraft fan, but I'll possibly get this.
But that wasnt the "Big News" wasnt it ?
As much as i love Minecraft, owning the PC version with a rig that can support modpacks like FTB Infinity, the console versions are pretty much obsolete except for maybe local co-op.
I pretty much own Minecraft on any device possible at the moment and i think i wont let the WiiU version slip. Might as well go all the way now.
But if that was the "Big News", im rather disappointed.
Minecraft is just not a good video game. It's a sandbox for people to waste time in and not much else.
This is probably the "big news."
Not really disappointed, as I've learned over time not to get excited about anything regarding Nintendo until the details of the news actually come out.
I'm not a Minecraft guy, it's not my cup of tea, anyway I just had a co-worker who's thinking about getting a Wii U and Minecraft for his kid for Christmas ask me if you can do all the server stuff. I had no idea what he's talking about so I couldn't answer his question. Anyone know anything about this?
I feel so bad for the developers of U Craft. The timing couldn't be worse for whomever those people are
Hey I don't mind this news at all! . I definitely wanted this to happen for a while even though it is a bit late for the Wii U. I will happily enjoy this
Yes this is the big news. Yes it's definitely overpriced.
I have the PC version so probably won't get this, but nice to see it finally arrive.
Never played it, been waiting for wii u version I'll check it out probably next year. Maybe not the big news we wanted, but it is good news.
@leo13 by server stuff he probably means all those online modes, mods and hacks I assume
I'm pretty sure the Wii u version has online but I'm not sure if it has the "servers" like the other versions
It actually makes sense... perhaps they want to buff up the Wii U sales just before they release the NX.
Love that some of you guys are still hoping for another BIG announcement. Love it.
@ElkinFencer10 Fad mostly over? People been saying that for years and it's still going.
$30? Ok... I got the PC version with all those free updates for $10.
Kind of silly but whatever. I've played Minecraft way too much anyway.
@Jaredfrogman I haven't bought Xenoblade X, but I'm pretty sure it's worth that maxed-out space, ay?
@ThomasBW84 looks like a live chat about it this morning at 10am PST
http://twitch.tv/MicrosoftStudios
about 45from now
if your paying $29.99 for it then those add on pack aint free!
not when the PS Edition is $19.99
@TwilightAngel That's not a very mlp thing to say. I thought most fan's of the series where about respecting people and being thoughtful?
@Onion851 I was also right about the dates and Minecraft was due out. Journalists were reading and reporting the dates incorrectly, why British and Europeans were reading European PEGI ratings and interpreting them with the American ie MM/DD/YYYY instead of our DD/MM/YYYY - The PEGI listing clearly said December 2015.
I don't know what the world is coming to. Next pricing listings will be in dollars.
@Mrclaycoat Is Ucraft still being worked on? It looked interesting but seemed a bit of a naff clone.
I'm going to avoid going on a rant and just say that if you own a PC, I'd strongly recommend buying it there instead.
If not, then definitely pick this up for your Wii U. It's an amazing game and you'll probably have a blast with it.
@Mrclaycoat
Agreed, that's incredibly bad luck.
@liveswired
Yeah supposedly. It was supposed to release this year, but given we haven't heard much, it's either been cancelled or delayed. In light of this news, I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in the towel. Very bad luck for them, but I guess this was always a possibility.
...So this is the big news then?...
Minecraft on Wii U...Up next Halo
@Superryanworld LMAO!
A bit too expensive for my liking, but it's pretty cool that the Wii U is finally getting Minecraft. I'm just not sure if I'll get it since I'm currently saving up for Fire Emblem Fates and I still need to get Xenoblade Chronicles X.
@Sir_JBizzle I don't think it's too late yet. I still think many of those 260mil last gen owners (80,80,100) are still updating to this then, even if most of them are going PS4 Wii U still has a few converts who will be happy to get Minecraft. Especially since Wii never got it either, that's 100mil Wii owners going next gen who may have kids who want Minecraft. If Wii or 3DS already had it I'd say it's too late as you can play Wii games, even downloaded ones, on Wii U.
BUT - $30 is still too much for a $20 game. Saying 6 packs "FREE" is REALLY insulting when the game is $10 more, perhaps due in part to those 6 packs, that's hardly "Free" packs.
But, MS did pay like $3.2 Billion with a B, so I guess they have to make their money back somehow. Probably won't be from us though. Unless they add "free" amiibo support. Free as in you already have the $13 amiibo to add the skins, and maybe some music. Have you seen Dragon Quest Builders on PS4? Minecraft: Nintendo Ed. might be worth $30 if they somehow make a Mushroom Kingdom playset. But I'm not paying $30 and then paying another $9.99 for the Nintendo add-ons.
Saying Wii U version is "better" thus worth it is bull also. (I don't think that was you, but other peopel have brought it up a few times.) PS4 version IS BETTER than PS3 version and they are still both $20.
http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2014/09/feature_what_makes_ps4s_minecraft_the_definitive_playstation_edition
PS4 version has touchpad (not touch screen, touchpad, just a pet peeve of mine) support and the orl has a better draw distance and it's 36X bigger. But it's still the same price on both consoles, $20. And it's not like they just ported it over easily from Cell to x86, PS3 and PS4 are very different. Though I know you already know that. I just hate people using the "Wii U is different" excuse. PS4 and X1 may be nearly the same, but PS3 and PS4 are different.
@Megumi Seems to be :/
About time. Shame it didn't come earlier, but there wasn't much Nintendo could do about Notch wanting nothing to do with the Wii U.
Regardless, this will sell very well on Wii U. Minecraft sells incredibly well in the US year after year, month after month. There's always new kids finding out about it, and now the Wii U is another option of where to play it.
Well, at least one of my guesses were right that Nintendo would troll everyone with something no one cares about. lol
looks left
looks right
"I have never played Minecr.." Gets run over by forum posts.
I love reading all the whiny comments, most are so typical. People let their OWN hopes get up about stuff & then cry when it's not what they envisioned in their head. You should know by now to never try to guess what a Nintendo announcement will be.
It's a bit expensive...
I guess I'll wait for a sale.
A page is up promoting the game is live on NOA's site now:
http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/ZTniFoRbFBzllBt3D0Ryhku1SMO28Ekt
@day Thanks for the heads up, much appreciated
It's cool, I just hope this isn't the 'big announcement'
It's also kinda pricey, being one who played this back when it was in beta when it was a bit cheaper. I might splurge if it ever goes on sale though.
Not my type of game, but good news for those who want it. I'd imagine that a lot of Wii U owners probably have this game on another device. Sad that this wasn't available as a launch title- this would have probably helped sales. Gamepad should be pretty cool.
Nice! I have a big YouTube Channel and have been getting some complaints of no Minecraft. For almost two years I've been trying to find out how to get it in the range of my financial affordance. This is the perfect solution.
@SanderEvers ...this idea is not offensive!
Price is a bit high at $29.99 compared to every other console that picks it up at $14.99. Even with the extra content it does little to justify the extra cost. Still it's exciting to see this finally land on a Nintendo console, especially the Wii U with off-screen play. Here's hoping that some new features are added for Wii U, namely two player mode with two screens and or single player inventory management on the Gamepad.
This was the big announcement, stop being delusional people.
It's not disappointing since I wasn't expecting much, but Minecraft has been ported to everything under the sun. Can't imagine too many people would be excited about a Wii U port.
@MoonKnight7 "But yeah, like I said to JBizzle, this could be more enhanced hence the reason for the higher price tag,"
And as I jut said to JBizzle, PS4 version was more enhanced than PS3 version - but they were both the same price, $20, and I bet this is closer to the PS3 version than the PS4 version.
At last. It comes out when I join national/elemenary school and Nintendo brings it out when I'm almost a teenager.
Well better late than never, you think that since Microsoft own Minecraft that it wouldn't see the light of days but seem that Microsoft doesn't care how Minecraft was handle in every platform.
@retro_player_22 : Microsoft is into making money. I'm very surprised Nintendo is allowing a Microsoft game on the Wii U. Actually, I'm outright shocked. But great news for Wii U owners nonetheless.
@ThomasBW84 Hey TW, if you want to put the $29.99 price into perspective for people, it's what they charge on the PS4 for the "holiday" bundle.
https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/minecraft-playstation-4-edition-holiday-pack/cid=UP4433-CUSA00744_00-HOLIDAYBUNDLE015?smcid=pdc:us-en:pdc-games-detail-minecraft-ps4:buttonrow-buy-download:minecraft:UP4433-CUSA00744_00-HOLIDAYBUNDLE015
It's the same exact bundle except PS4 gets LBP Mash-up. Don't see Wii U getting that ever.
Sorry about the Sony website link, not sure were else to get that info.
Also, the lady on Twitch said Wii U is getting the Xbox One edition. Well she said "X 1" which I'm assuming meant Xbox One.
Considering the guy who said there'd be big news on Monday, I'm assuming this is it. I'm pretty stoked tbh, I'll be picking this up hopefully.
I wonder if this means Microsoft (Rare specifically) may release more titles on Nintendo systems again and make handheld games for Nintendo like they did with Banjo Kazooie: Gruntilda's Revenge and Diddy Kong Racing DS.
@rjejr
I've developed games. I sympathize with the value of software and platform. So, I want the Wii U to be cheap to get consoles hooked up and active. If Nintendo can do it for profit, great! If it can't at higher prices, it should have been quicker to take a loss, in my opinion. I really think the problem was that they had just done that with the DS. They took a big hit there and someone at Nintendo couldn't stomach that kind of risk, again. So we got the alternative approach of trying to up the value but keep the same price. You and I agree, I think, that a lower price option really needed to be in the stores and by now it would have been great to be $150 - $200... not $250-$300.
As far as Minecraft itself I just don't see a reason to undervalue it. Like you admit, people will buy it. We know so little about this, too. As much as I thought Microsoft wanted to get Minecraft to all platforms and use it as an ongoing platform of sorts, itself, I'm still pretty amazed that it landed on Wii U. Did Nintendo pay a fee? Is Microsoft simply trying to make its money back on the port to a system with a tiny user base? (It will sell literally millions more on PS4) Is the version really offering something extra special?
I just don't know yet. I will say that I've tried playing with controller only and it's frustrating compared to keyboard and mouse. So GamePad is pretty cool. As far as performance goes, it's not going to compare to PS4, that's for sure.
$30 is in the just-enough-to-hurt zone, but again, if you get bitten by the Minecraft bug you'll be sinking hundreds of hours into the game and with 4-players locally where it's $28 or so per person on a PC.
A little high? Yes. But not extreme to me anyway. I'm curious what the kids will think but I'm not going to share until we have details.
Plus, platform can make a big difference. We have spent some of our minecraft time using the new Windows 10 edition because it is compatible with the portable edition that works on tablets. It's a blast playing when a player or two (with tablets or phone) can just run around (or in my sons case leap and bound) while look over the shoulder of the PC players and just talk in their ears.
If it's bare bones right now, there will still be many "free" additions as well (a la Splatoon?) so we'll just have to see.
@rjejr
Update: Oh, I guess we do know about multiplayer now and it's 8-player online and 4-player local so at least that is there. Much more to learn though.
@rjejr
The timing of the announcement is odd. Did Microsoft have particular sway in the announcement timing? Definitely should have been part of the Nintendo Direct, in my opinion. Maybe Nintendo would have rather shown it with the extra features included (probably amiibo support... I mean honestly, if it's not coming that is insane) but Microsoft wanted it out during this holiday because... well, there's little competition on Wii U?
@AlexSora89 It will happen. It WILL HAPPEN.
@aaronsullivan
On my post #234 I already mentioned to TW that this $30 pack is the same as the PS4 $30 pack - though PS4 also gets LBP - so there is precedent for the price. It is HIGHLY disingenuous though to say the DLC packs are "free" as the PS4 version clearly lists them as bundled in and that's why the price is higher. So they should just say this is a bundle and drop the "free" BS. Though to be fair that could just be NL's wording, not MS's, so we'll have to see. PS4 does have a $19.99 option though. Why take that away? That's my biggest issue. $30 may be worth it with the bundles, PS4 bundle may sell much better than the $19.99 option and that's why Wii U is bundle only, but I still don't like that the option isn't there. We won't pay $30.
I don't get the timing. Didn't PS3 and Vita and PS4 get like 6 months hype? At least 3 months anyway. I need @ryno to make me a "One does not simply release Minecraft with only 10 days notice" meme.
Microsoft is the one publishing this, right? If so, then they're the ones setting the price. If Nintendo's publishing, then they're the ones setting the price.
Better using an PC than Wii U,i guess i can mod,cheats,re edit textures and many more can combine and even make crazier courses in minecraft (Not Herobrine)
I own MineCraft on several system but I am actually pretty excited about this.
I just realized something. With Minecraft coming to Wii U, that means Steve is on a Nintendo platform. Steve is a pretty iconic character. There's also a Smash Direct coming up.
Just in time for Xmas and three Star Wars DLC.
Impressive. Most impressive.
@Dreamcaster-X Tell me about it - there's a lot of people who've never played Minecraft and will use this as their opportunity...the sense of entitlement is strong in this comment section.
I'm sure there's still another unannounced title still in the wings due out this year.
@IceClimbers 2 Dr Who skin packs, Dalek amiibo confirmed.
Man, I know I'm a bit annoyed at the $29.99 PS4 bundle price, but those people commenting on twitter, oh my. Not happy at all that this is the big announcement. How a SSB ballot is bigger than Minecraft on Wii U i'll never know.
Awesome! Will be picking this up.
The pricing is standard Nintendo fare. No one seems to care that Terraria 3DS is like 3 times the price as the PC version, which has no 3D, no online and worlds set at about 40% of a 'small' world.
I'm glad we're getting these games, but the pricing and timing is way off.
@MoonKnight7 Well Nintendo is basing their family console theme solely on their products, which are exclusive. The Legos, Skylanders, Disney and Just Dance tag along, but I think they expected third parties are not there anymore except Nindies. It's not surprising that a third party game arrives to the Wii U later than others. It's really not that late considering it is still making versions to new platforms.
Anyway, I don't own any non Nintendo console, and wouldn't have tried it on a phone out of no interest, so I might give it this a try for the first time...
Nintendo.
Continuing to disappoint fans since 2006.
@ThomasBW84 Speaking of few year-old games coming to the Wii U, wasn't the Walking Dead game by Telltale games supposed to come out yet?
@rjejr There were actually people upset that the "big announcement" wasn't the date for the Smash Direct. Apparently an announcement of an announcement of an announcement is bigger news than the most successful (former) indie of all time finally coming to Nintendo.
To those complaining Minecraft is still alive and kicking and there are probably quite a few people out there who have yet to play Minecraft plus there is the fact Nintendo and Mojang are collaborating on exclusive content
Whenever I traverse this site I sometimes wonder what you guys want. People who argue that 3rd Party support (or lack thereof) is what's killed the console should not say anything but praise about this announcement. This game will always be on the top selling-list (at least for another half decade). Why shoot this down?
@IceClimbers best troll character
Don't be so sour guys.
Damon Baker wasn't ordered to use those exact terms, so don't blame Nintendo for "disappointing" you, if this wasn't "as big" as you wanted.
I think it's great that Minecraft comes to Wii U! More variety for the console, a perfect GamePad game and an opened door to more collaboration with Mojang.
@A01 @Mrclaycoat @3MonthBeef "I feel sorry for UCraft now."
My thoughts exactly, guys!
@Chendo Nintendo Fans: Over expecting and over hyping things since 2006
Boo! I boo this "big" news!
Don't get me wrong, I've never played Minecraft and I'm really looking forward to finally being able to play it on a Nintendo console, but this was very underwhelming, given how hyped-up the surprise was.
@Chendo What was so disappointing about 2006...?
So this really is the 'big news' that was coming today? Quite disappointing. Not that I don't like Minecraft, but since I've played it years ago on the PC and haven't played it for years now, I'm not really tempted to go back to it on a console that doesn't have mod support (and makes you pay for textures you could download for free on the PC).
They should make it so you can play on the big screen, and watch Minecraft streams/YouTube videos on the gamepad at the same time.
Good gracious it's hilarious seeing some of you deride this as being the "big news". Do you have ANY idea how much bigger Minecraft is than ANY Nintendo property?
As far as the price premium, that's what happens with new platforms. They want to pay off the development price. It will obviously be on sale later. Plus, IF the gamepad interface is excellent, that could warrant some upgrade over the other console versions.
@SmaMan "Actually, since the XBOX360 runs on a very similar processor as the Wii U, three weeks sounds about right."
They're different enough that they require specific coding. And even if a sloppy port could be done in three weeks, the Wii U version would require a lot of Wii U specific development in the GamePad implementation and UI customization in general and multiplayer, online implementation. And not the least, all the paper work and testing related to porting would take more than three weeks!
Cool i was hoping it was Smash Direct news but this is great regardless. Nice to see it getting the DLC packs and upcoming Nintendo packs
Great. I know you don't like it because is not animeish or otaku or too mainstream, but Minecraft is the game kids like these days and it was sorely missing from Nintendo platforms. It won't make a huge difference on the console at this time but it will be good for the foreseeable future, maybe an NX enhanced port.
Great news today.
If this was the announcement, then I'm pretty disappointed. Minecraft is getting old and I've already played it on several different platforms. Seriously, who cares anymore.
Wait, so is it confirmed that this IS the supposed great news?
@IceClimbers
Well, I am upset!
I bet Notch is stewing today at the news of "his" game coming to a Nintendo system.
He was open about keeping Minecraft and Mahjong away from Nintendo.
He was open about his distain for Nintendo.
Notch's distain from Nintendo kept Minecraft until it became part of Microsoft.
Nintendo did announce they are working with Mahjong for Nintendo exclusive content.
@IceClimbers Steve in Smash? IDK. I don't know. He's owned by Microsoft and unlike Banjo, he was never owned by Nintendo at one point. Plus I don't know if Japan knows the guy.
Would be funny though.
@MoonKnight7 I could care less about the price. I wanted a big announcement though.
@foobarbaz
Yes.
Though to be fair, it was an off comment by a Nintendo employee on a podcast that was blown up further.
Though they did announce Nintendo exclusive content coming to Wii U Minecraft.
so this is the big announcement.
i'll surely get it next year. (Can't now, i already i spent $60 on xenoblade)
Anyone got popcorn?
Seriously I love how upset people get over something that was said by an indie dev. I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be major, but people should have paid attention.
@Raptor78 Says:
Do you really think it's been ported over to the Wii U to make £££? they know full well Minecraft on the Wii U isn't going to set the charts on fire. This is more about getting Minecraft to Nintendo fans, & probably the reason why it's $10 more is to try & make the money back for its port as they know full well it isn't going to sell loads.
The amount of salt in this comments section is absolutely hilarious. "I hope this wasn't the big announcement!" LOL. How many times do we have to telll you guys to not get super hyped over stuff like this? But no. You raise your hype levels through the room, then when the announcement finally drops, you cry on the internet on how disappointed you were by it.
Also, Nintendo never said there was a "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ZOMG" today. But you know who did? An employee at NoA that manages the indie stuff. And you know where it was announced? It was announced by the same NoA employee in a podcast interview ABOUT indies.
ALL SIGNS OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT POINTED TO IT BEING AN INDIE RELATED ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BEGINNING. Now stop crying, and just accept that this is the big announcement.
To avoided arguing, releasing all types of rage into this comment section, and writing the equivalent of a 3 page article even though I literally expected nothing out of this announcement, I'll just say that nobody in their right mind should buy the abomination of an "big announcement" and just buy the cheaper and most active PC version.
Minecraft - 71 million copies sold and only exceeded by Tetris and Wii Sports in the multiplatform category. Of that 71 Million, It has sold 30 Million on mobile and 21 million on the PC. I think Nintendo getting that game on one of their platforms is a huge deal.
In fact short of announcing Grand Theft Auto, Diablo, or Call of Duty returning to the platform, I don't know how you get a bigger third party game announcement than this.
I hope this means there's a chance we will see Minecraft on the 3DS! It's never too late for Minecraft, it will always be a classic.
@mariovslink62 This would be awesome to see though!
If this is indeed the "big announcement" teased over the weekend, then consider it a misfire because I couldn't care less.
The lack of perspective here is pretty funny to me.
This is indeed big for Nintendo. I'm sure part of the let down is that those who closely follow Nintendo already knew this was coming from the Pegi leak. So, instead of "woah!" it was "why wasn't this announced during the Nintendo Direct" and then "oh, here it is when I was expecting something else".
I think people get the impression Minecraft is somehow old and done. Microsoft has a much longer term plan for Minecraft and didn't pay the money it did just to let it die. Nintendo getting in the loop at all is very important. On top of this, younger gamers are all over Minecraft. Several people make livings off of just making YouTube videos about Minecraft. It's not shrinking, it's growing.
If you haven't played in a few years, you've missed a ton. If you weren't really into it, that's fine, but it makes it no less a big deal.
As others have mentioned, this is a major third party game for the Wii U. Good news no matter what. It means that NX is likely to have versions of Minecraft as well. There is a ton of activity around Minecraft internally as it is being converged on a C++ codebase and once that is complete I think we'll see major, major additions such as modding (of some sort) arriving on all platforms.
To the people saying get it on PC, yes, there are many advantages but you don't get local play that way without 4 computers. PC gaming is just not for everyone. Managing Java updates (with security flaws) is bothersome and anything to do with mods is generally for the hardcore crowd. Not that there aren't many who do. I'm a PC/Mac player myself, but I have kids and I see the benefits of other platforms like mobile, tablet and yes consoles.
I can't wait for this trash to die off. It will, don't you all worry. Almost all of them do no matter how big they once were.
I'll probably get it, even if it's a bit pricey.
I may now actually be able to stop my daughters arguing... one of them on the 360 and the other on the Wii U.. job done..
@IceClimbers See for yourself.
Though I suppose if you don't have a twitter account you can't. Lets just say Twitter doesn't seem to have a problem displaying obscenities.
https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/673925902707896320
Very exciting! That price has almost completely detered me from buying however as I already own it on PC...
Three years too late.
So many people here living in fantasy land. Complaining in shock and disbelief that this is the big announcement.
Of course it is! You think Minecraft coming to Wii U is SMALL? Oh you think this is nothing big? The guy who said something big is coming- he is the INDIE REP. ALL HE DEALS WITH IS GETTING 3RD PARTY INDY GAMES ON THE SYSTEM.
You thought just because he works at Nintendo that automatically means, "oh big announcement, definitely Final Fantasy 7! Definitely Metroid Prime 4!"
You people are something else. Really you are. Guess news is only big when you personally care about it.
Not buying, not interested, don't care.
So... this was the big news? That's sad... I'm not a big Minecraft fan and it's available on every other platform at this point. Seriously, if I'm going to play this game, I'll buy it on my Vita, XBOX One, or PC. I was hoping for bigger news.
You morons know that Minecraft has been steadily in the top 10 best selling games on each month SINCE 2012 RIGHT?!
What the heck were you expecting?! "Earthbound vs Fire emblem starring Undertale"?!
Seriously, Nintendo fans are getting worse every year.
Someone should do a tally when the comments die down of how many people said "So this was the big news?"
I heard about this when I was at work, I thought to myself that there's bound to be a lot of whining over this because it's not a SunshineHD/Metroid Prime/Galaxy. I wasn't disappointed. It's borderline "I want a pony daddy!" Then crying because daddy's not giving you a pony.
I hope it does well.
@BinaryFragger I played Minecraft for 2 hours. Really enjoyed the first hour, then got bored the 2nd. And I only enjoyed the first b/c I was using the Skyrim theme and I really enjoyed the music. So much that I went and bought Skyrim after that. So I'm not the biggest Minecraft fan. But I know how big it is. It's bigger than SSB. Even bigger than Cloud in SSB.
I get people being upset - I'm still upset about the price - but some of those people barley deserve to be called people.
This is the big news? This garbage bandwagon game that nobody above the age of 12 asked for is coming to Wii U? A game that's already on almost every system anyway? That's the big news?
@WiltonRoots You've got something brown on your nose. You might want to wipe it off before coming in here and making everyone smell it.
@rjejr This is not "big". Minecraft might be "big" with tweenagers, but this news is not big. In fact I'd be surprised if most older gamers' reactions weren't "wait it wasn't already on there?"
COD is popular with kids and chimpanzees, too, but adding it to yet another gaming system after it's spread itself across the entire industry wouldn't be "big news" either.
When one of the most overrated, best-selling games ever released adds one console to it's massive list of systems, it's expected. Not big.
Minecraft owned by Mojang: "It won't be a good fit" Puts on hipster glasses
Minecraft own by Microsoft: "$$$$$? OK!!!"
I'm not as butthurt as some people on here, but I do think Minecraft is one of the most overrated games ever created and don't really consider it "big news" but it's not really bad news either so I'm fine with it. Xenoblade Chronicles X is all the good news I ever really needed
@BinaryFragger I completely agree. I can't believe that people were expecting some massive new Nintendo game when it was hinted at by Damon, you know, the indie guy. I, for one, am glad this is finally arriving on Wii U, and will be buying it day 1.
@MrRight "When one of the most overrated, best-selling games ever released adds one console to it's massive list of systems, it's expected. Not big."
But you're looking at it backwards. When you get a wart, adn you look down at that wart, taht wart isn't big. But when you'r eth ewart adn you look up, th ebody is big. Wii U is the wart, Minecraft is the body, not the other way around. It' svery big news that Wii U is getting a 3rd party game, one of th ebiggest gmaes over the past 5 eyars, and it just happen sto be owned by Microsfot. That is big news for Niintendo. For Minecraft it's meh.
If you don't like warts, and since the interment loves car analogies - if a teenager buys a new car at 17, that's huge for the teenager and all his/her friends, but Ford's stock doens't move over 1 car sale. Minecraft is Ford, Nintendo is the teenager.
@JaxonH Oh sure, now you show up.
@aaronsullivan I'm back. Told my 10 year old. Well tried to, somebody at school already told him, must be 1 of those 5th graders with a smartphone. So I asked him what he thought, didn't say much. I told him it was $29.99 and he said - "$30, that's dumb. On computers you get mods and everything for $27, $30 on Wii U is dumb." And there you have it. I've never been more proud.
Nintendo finally get Minecraft on Wii U. Many fans still complain that the news isn't big enough. Are you morons ever satisfied?
I'm glad to hear it, but they definitely over hyped the announcement, haha.
@rjejr Haha. Of course I have to get technical on this: As you know, the player doesn't "get" mods with the PC version. You have to find them install them, manage separate Minecraft installs and have maps that are incompatible with each other and spend hours of research to make it all work (be sure to have the right older version!). Plus you can only play with one person per PC license. If you want to play four it costs $108! Plus you need 4 PCs which no matter how you slice it is going to be more expensive than a Wii U. Sure, he has been down the modding route, right? He's a serious Minecraft player and has already invested that time. So, it feels like a raw deal. Smart guy. The price is dumb for him. Not sure he's representative of the typical Wii U owner, though.
So many moaning twat's - at this rate of going NX is 30,000,000 consoles too late to the party.
Minecraft on Wii U is excellent.
This is a good sign as a Nintendo fan since there will be a popular third party game coming to the system. Third parties speak with their wallets and the Wii U market is super dry at best. Nintendo is in a drought. This is good news.
This is great news. Do I personally care for Mine craft? Not in the slightest, but this is obviously only good news for Wii U, so you haters and trolls can all stfu and grow a brain.
@WiltonRoots lol I could care less about it.I hope its not the big news.lol you are the only person who named those games.people was expecting info on my nintendo.not minecraft or those 3 games you said.
Not what I was hoping for, but it's still good news. The more support Wii U gets the better.
@dumedum
"Well Nintendo is basing their family console theme solely on their products, which are exclusive."
They based it on that out of sheer desperation because it worked for the Wii, and there was literally nothing left other than Nintendo games and now, Minecraft.
"The Legos, Skylanders, Disney and Just Dance tag along, but I think they expected third parties are not there anymore except Nindies."
Agreed.
"It's not surprising that a third party game arrives to the Wii U later than others."
Agreed.
"It's really not that late considering it is still making versions to new platforms."
It's lateness is relative and depends on who you ask, but we are both using the same word here, late. I am merely stating a fact, and was even supported by NL that Nintendo missed a major release when they needed it most. It's good that Nintendo fans, like yourself, finally get a chance to play, but its impact is diminished by the fact that it's late to the party and the higher price tag. At the very least it shows MS and Nintendo are on good terms with each other, so at least there's that.
It's good news overall, but this just reminds me of how much Nintendo needed this game a year ago, or even better, at launch. It would have been perfect to brag up the Gamepad's useful off tv play.
I don't know what is worse, the people annoyed this isn't an announcement of something they want or the 'know it alls' that have to post a novel in response to try and make the nay-sayers look stupid.
If someone wants to be annoyed by something like this, let them. Sure it is their own fault for getting excited over something without understanding what the announcement was going to be, but still, I think someone over-emphasizing "BIG BIG NEWS" like "SUPER DUPER BIG GAIZ" is easy to take the wrong way.
And I'd hardly ever call Minecraft anything remotely close to 'indie' anymore. So people to assume that something that was actually indie to be announced are not in the wrong.
Although it is a big deal being it's minecraft and perfect for the U & gamepad, the $10 higher price is a bit of an insult being the wait was so long!
Oh well I'm sure it will sell regardless! Now a Grand theft auto announcement however I'm sure woulda blew everyone's doors off!! Lol
@RainbowGazelle It's more people were expecting something different and not a game that most stopped caring about and is cheaper on every platform. People were also hoping for something new, not something that is basically a 3 year old port (Console release, 6 years, if you want to go by the PC release) and could have been a launch title for the Wii U.
Pricey, but I'll buy it. When you add in the free dlc and the game being fully updated, it sort of validates the price. Disappointing "big news" considering we already knew about it, but I'll take it.
Might pick up the physical version at some point down the line.
@ThomasBW84 sorry for the unfortunate excitement... did they even say whether the gamepad was in use for anything other than offscreen play?
So Microsoft doesnt see Nintendo as a threat... or...
What if the NX is short for Nintendo XBox? And this is the beginning of the alliance?
@aaronsullivan typical
No pSYHCO kILLER doesn't do typical. That was the name I gave him on Club Nintendo, after the Talking Heads song, and I forgot I had the caps locks on. And if you try to get technical with him he will tell you the PS3 also does 4 player spiitscreen, w/o the mods, for $19.99. And he may even tell you he isn't typical, but he's also smart enough to know that even if he isn't typical, that has nothing to do with it, if it's $19.99 on PS3 and $19.99 on PS4 and $19.9 on vita, and probably on Xbox360 and XboxOne too, then it shouldn't be $29.99 on Wii U. Wii U might have Gamepad support, but PS4 has touchpad support.
And yes, for a New Yorker you "get" mods, as in you "get to use" mods, which you dont' get to do on the PS3 either, but that's why the PS3 version, and all the rest, are cheaper. And he knows to us ePS3 w/ his brother adn when friends come over. And 1 person can play in my bedroom and 1 in the basement and I only had to buy 1 copy - thank you Sony. Wii U shouldn't be more than the PC version. PC version is the best, everybody will tell you that. Of course my 10 year old is also smart enough not to use the "mobile" version for $6 b/c it isn't worth his time.
But yeah, my kid isn't typical I suppose, thank goodness. Took me awhile just to find his Minecraft folder - users/appsdata/roaming, and he currently launches it out of either ATLauncher or VoidLAuncher and he has separate folders for all the 164 and 172 mods, and he's on the snapshot channel or something, I don't really know what he's doing anymore, we went over which download sites I trust and which I don't and so far he seems pretty well focused. I think he has his own server running on here somewhere. But it can't be that hard, he's 10 and he's doing it all on his own. Well his 10 year old friend helps him they put down the telephones on speaker and run wild in the PVP sites. Crazy kids.
Well after skimming through 330+ comments later of mixed emotion and thinking about it since it got announced im not sure where I stand on this. Really not what I wanted the announcement to be. Was really crossing my fingers on a date for the direct but I suppose this is what'll have to do. It's a tad late for something "big" to be announced anymore. Plus I guess this is as big as we'll get for today. I find the price a little blah but hey, im getting it anyways. This and terraria will be fun with the very small amount of online friends I got on my wiiu. Keeping an eye out for that direct tho.
And nothing of value was gained...
@MrPretty Well, at this point, nothing is a threat to the Xbox One anymore, as its pretty much out of the competition anyways.
They lost head over heels to the PS4 for no real reason. And MS and Nintendo never had a very harsh rivalry anyways.
@Peach64 it's comments like that that make me happy to be on the Internet and sorry for my great grandmother who isn't.
FF7 on Wii U? FF15 on NX? Gone Home went home, Wii U projects are dropping like flies, Smash has needless DLC a year later and oh look, Minecraft. 3 and half years after the 360 version. 18 months since 'real' Minecraft mattered to anyone. Nintendo is MGM is the 60s: they have money, they have talent, and they have a paper shredder, because burning money is bad for the environment.
I feel bad for Miyamoto (almost) and really bad for the NX. It is going to tank, Panzer style.
Speaking of which, Sega needs to get on Panzer Dragoon Saga, reworked with Treasure, in HD.
Damn, so much salt in the comments. I'm gonna get this because Wii U is the only console I have, plus I'll be able to play online with my Miiverse friends and in split-screen with my siblings. I'm happy Minecraft is finally being released on the Wii U!
Nintemdo themed resource packs unlocked via Amiibo?
@rjejr ps4 version is 29.99 but comes with lbp dlc. I'm expecting the Nintendo add ons to be free as well
@GamePerson19 that's what I'm thinking. I bet Microsoft wants a Steve amiibo as well.
@rjejr
Never too late to see a good game release.
That's always been my mantra. "Relevance" and all that nonsense means nothing anyways. Minecraft being on Wii U at launch was never going to change the fate of the console. So really, this is good news any way you slice it.
Sure beats a reality where we woke up tomorrow and Minecraft is still never coming to Wii U. And never will.
I guess Minecraft on Wii U is going to utilize amiibo at some point in the future.
@the-madprofessor That's good news Professor, ty for reply!
Sounds like a lot of fun then, awesome
I think the only way that this could really succeed on Wii U is if the cover art and marketing utilises Nintendo branding (Mario and friends on the cover, perhaps?). Nintendo shouldn't underestimate just how great an impact that could have in persuading existing Minecraft players into double dipping.
I never really "got" Minecraft, probably because I've never played it, and the visually unappealing aesthetic has been saturated to the point that I'm actually quite put off by it. I'll definitely grab the retail Wii U version though. Might as well see what all this fuss is about.
One of the most popular third party games coming to the Wii U and people are moaning ? As for the price , to purchase the game and packs on Xbox costs $35 , so it's actually cheaper on the Wii U. I know it is late , but this could be important for Nintendo in Japan ; especially if it comes to N3DS as well as Wii U.
@banacheck Why not, Cubelife burned its way up the charts only being held off the top spot by Splatoon. I can't see, if this is indeed the reason, to charge an additional $10 because they don't expect it to do as well when if it was already at the $20 mark it would be a no brainer. I've enjoyed Minecraft in its many, many, god its been on so many different platforms already and the thing I can't justify is its $10 NintendoTax.
@Raptor78 It's $29.99 on the PS and Xbox stores too,Wii U is getting the exact same version that released 2 weeks ago minus the Little Big Planet skins from the PS version.Why would it be any cheaper on the Eshop? With exclusive Nintendo skins,amiibo support,touchscreen inventory and off screen play,there's every chance this could be the best version.
I've never played Minecraft in my life, neither has anyone in my house, & I've got two kids... I txt my sister in law with the news it is coming to Wii U this month, & she asked can she pre-order it. Her son has a Wii U & uses it to watch Minecraft videos on YouTube, so he'll be delighted it's coming. Not something I personally care about, but it is big news, & I am happy it's happening. Might even try it myself!
WOW, so this was the "BIG" news supposedly yesterday.
Jesus Christ Nintendo, if this a taste of what's to come with your efforts in delivering the NX you may aswell retire from hardware now.
Announcing you have BIG news coming when your entire user base are so desperate to hear something game changing and of great importance to the future of their console, announcing a port of a 3 year old game does not qualify.
Sack this guy. Damn idiot.
@OorWullie if I try to buy any of the versions in the UK they all come out under £15 , even if Nintendo decide to use the current exchange rate it still makes it £20 ... and usually we get screwed over in the UK regarding game prices. Pretty much whatever it is in dollers is what it is in pounds. If the wiiu version was £15 I would have no problems but when you can pick up the Xbone and the PS4 for £15 it really seems like they are taking advantage of wiiu owners.
The amount of free skins I have got on the 360 over the years is ridiculous, free skins shouldn't be taken in to account when justifying the price.
@DESS-M-8 No freaking kidding. I've been wondering what the heck this "big announcement" was all day yesterday. I thought maybe the news was coming from Japan; thus, a time difference. But the guy who trolled, I mean teased everyone is from NoA. Then I realized, "Wait: is the announcement this Wii U port of Minecraft?" Indeed, it seems so. For the handful of people who haven't played this game (which is available on nearly every platform currently known), this may be exciting but it's far from "big." I wasn't expecting anything but applying the phrase "big announcement" to an expensive port of a 4-year old game on a soon-to-be-retired system is really stretching it. The idiocy of 21st century Nintendo has no boundaries.
So Minecraft is finally coming to a Nintendo device, yeeeeeaaaarrrs after the competition. Fantastic!
Ok, a good game is a good game, no matter when it arrives. If I thought the game looked exciting, I would be happy for the anouncement. But as it stands I am really not interested. Fun for some others I guess...
@Raptor78 I've not really looked much but I do know it's £23.99 on the official UK Xbox store.I'm sure it can be picked up on Amazon or elsewhere for cheaper,but you'll be able to get the Wii U version for cheaper too when its own retail version releases.This is for the digital version only and it's the same price for all,at least in the US anyway.
@OorWullie I haven't got a problem with the game itself. Bit disappointed that this was the big announcement, I was hoping for another Nindies offer just in time for Christmas. The issue I have is with the price and like you say it may be cheaper on Amazon when it finally gets a physical release but $30 is too much for me for something I already own. For those who haven't had the means to get it anywhere else then fair enough, but for me and I expect many others, will wait for a decent price drop or offer before taking the plunge.
I'm genuinely perplexed that there are people who don't think this is a big announcement. Baffled.
@C-Olimar I just looked it up, it's the same price as the Xbox One Edition Holiday Pack, 30$ with all the same DLC included. Maybe after the holidays, it will be priced at 20$ with no DLC included.
The guy who teased fans like this needs to be fired. This is depressing as it gets for your "big announcement." Other platforms have had Minecraft for years and the game was leaked a month ago. This isn't news this is just filler for the wait til NX and better software like Ultra Smash and Tri-Force Heroes.
@c1pher_c0mplet @DESS-M-8 @NIN10DOXD The guy is THE INDIE/ESHOP GUY at NoA!! Of course his big announcement wasn't some earth-shattering Nintendo exclusive. But Minecraft is "big news"; it's the third best-selling game of all time, and is still selling. You think this guy should be fired just because it's not "big news" to you? For many others, this is big, and a fantastic announcement.
You guys hyped yourself up wayyyyy too much. You guys always assume every announcement is either Smash or NX. The big announcement was from a Nindie Rep, of course it's going to be something like this. Minecraft on Wii U is actually pretty big news, even if I'm not into it myself
@NIN10DOXD @DESS-M-8
You want somebody sacked for trailing a big announcement that a lot of people clearly think is big? Wow. Just....wow.
I'll be shocked if minecraft doesn't make it's way to the NX it has to happen! Also a 3ds version could happen albeit not as powerful and it may be a new 2ds exclusive but it could happen! For those complaining about the price wait for the physical version to come out I guarantee you many stores will sell it cheap as at that point anyone who wants the game will have it and stores will want rid of the copies! Still 8 player online isn't it 16 in the other versions? Not sure as I haven't played the game in a while and who wants to bet no voice chat! hopefully they'll incorporate friends though. All in the all this is good news for everyone even if it's not the announcement you want it's good news as minecraft is now on Nintendo and hopefully on more consoles down the line!
News, yes. Big news, no.
Some will be pleased to finally play this game. While others will think the BIG announcement was a wind-up.
More content at a later date means if enough people purchase it to make it worth while, there will be more content. If it does not attract enough buyers, no more content.
@aaronsullivan lol I understand a game like halo to be different on the wiiu.you didn't even think before you spoke.lol it's minecraft might lose trophies that's about the only difference
Ok big news was minecraft.no big news to me,i was holding for info on my nintendo account.lol whoopie we get minecraft.
@NIN10DOXD star Fox and zelda are this fillers before nx.get your facts straight
@RainbowGazelle People stay catching feelings and making assumptions online... I usually don't respond to comments but whatever. First, I never said anyone should be fired. Second, I never said I expected a Nintendo exclusive to be announced. That's exactly why I said, and I quote myself, "I wasn't expecting anything." Third, I never said Minecraft on Wii U isn't big news just because I'm not interested (which I'm not). I clearly stated, "For the handful of people who haven't played this game [...], this may be exciting." Lastly, I caught wind of this "news" elsewhere via a random headline online while studying. I didn't check this guy's LinkedIn profile and do a full background check on him to know that he's involved with the Nintendo indies/eShop. My only point was I, and many others, consider this to be an exciting announcement for those who haven't experienced Minecraft yet but definitely not a BIG one as he put it. If you disagree, cool. The announcement's over, Minecraft is coming to Wii U, it is what it is.
@c1pher_c0mplet Okay, in fairness I shouldn't have included you in my reply. It was the two people who want the eShop guy fired who I was mostly directing my post at.
To those expecting Nintendo Account..

@c1pher_c0mplet we accept your apology.
Now let's see if the two doofuses calling for the head indie guy to go for announcing that the most successful indie game of all time (and 3rd game in general) is coming to Nintendo for the first time. Seriously never mind putting two and two together and getting 4 these guys probably can't tie their shoelaces of this is the extent of their logic. What'd they expect F-Zero? A new IP? Half-Life 3? Hahahahahahahaha.
@Slim1999 I said before NX and better software than what were getting I.e. the titles you mentioned.
I was sarcastic about it being a reason to fire him but, it is weird the way he hinted at it. I get that Minecraft is a wonderful game its just it loses its wow factor under these circumstances.
@RainbowGazelle It's all good. I just didn't want to be lumped in with the other nonsense that I wasn't apart of.
@Slim1999 "you didn't even think before you spoke"
That part about Halo was a joke. It's a joke b/c Microsoft owns Minecraft and Microsoft owns Halo, so he was joking that if the Wii U can get Minecraft, which is owned by Microsoft, then Wii U can get Halo, which is owned by Minecraft. Its a joke b/c they are both games owned by Microsoft. Nobody would relaly think Wii U is getting Halo, so it's an obvious joke. .
@faint But you can also buy Minecraft on PS4 for $19.99, that $29.99 price is the holiday BUNDLE. So no, the DLC isn't free, the game is $19.99 and the other $10.00 is for the 7 packs on PS4, 6 packs on Wii U. Wii U isn't being given anything, it's being denied the option to just buy the $19.99 game.
@JaxonH Did you read my "now you show up" with the "you" as Minecraft? I was referring to you showing up late to the thread with your usual words of wisdom. I can't remember what you said, but it's probably safe to say you agreed w/ me. (Found it, #298)
@MJKOP #348 Best real life post of the thread. That's the reality.
@VeeFlamesNL Is that Janice in the background? I think you just found my new all time favorite animated gif.
I have never played Minecraft on anything but Windows. How does online multiplayer for a console work? Or local for that matter? And I'm guessing that this doesn't interact with other versions of Minecraft, correct? I can't play on a Windows server?
The salt is too much for my fries
@rjejr Holy almighty hell, learn to type. I can't even read your dreck and gave up trying about 1/3 of the way through.
@Haiassai How it works is you download Terraria and play that instead.
@MrRight Ha. While I appreciate what these other games have done for the Wii U and the effort they put into making a version of Minecraft on the Wii U...
...Minecraft is Minecraft. I've enjoyed the game since I downloaded the beta. I do wish things reformed back to that stage, but it is what it is. The fact that Minecraft is on the Wii U means that I will be playing it.
@MrRight @rjejr I'll translate for you. Minecraft has sold 70+ million copies to the 12 year old and under crowd you hold with disdain. Nintendo's primary business model is selling hardware, software, and collectible figurines to that demographic. The secondary market is selling those products to their dedicated fanbase. You can tell that by the fact all their advertising is on channels like Disney, Nick, and Cartoon Network while being non-existent on non-kid/family focused stations. EDIT: It also is why you see advertising for Mario Kart, Mario Party, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, etc but nothing for games like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bayonetta, Devil's Third, or W101.
In short, they now have secured an edition of a game with 70+ million (3rd best selling all-time) copies sold for their home console. That is a huge deal for Nintendo.
@Darknyht There are some really insightful things in what you have said but that doesn't change the fact that the average wiiu user is 35 years old and would have been expecting something other than this as the "big news", this will indeed sell lots of units to the young user base but those are also not the ones checking out sites like this and following twitter accounts waiting for the next big announcement. Simply put, although I agree with you that Nintendo would see this as a big deal , their average 35 year old gamer may not and be pretty disappointed in this being " the big news"
@Raptor78 Citation Needed. The average age of gamers is 35 overall, not the Wii U specifically. I am also pretty sure that a generation that is billed as the "iGen" or "Digital Natives" are pretty capable when it comes to Twitter and social media. Because we are talking about them and not Millennials.
@MrRight Maybe you should have given up sooner and saved yourself the trouble of typing a reply? Nobody is forcing you to read the comments you know.
How was that?
@Darknyht Gee, did I say that? Thanks for the translation.
I never did get an email, I'm guessing you must have edited me in later.
@rjejr I had to edit to add you in since I am getting old and forgot to tag you originally. I took a dynamic paraphrasing method of translating versus a literal and formal one.
This news is so meh to me.
@MrRight Whoah there son getting a bit personal? Do you talk to people like that in person?
You might not be under the age of 12 but there's a lot of Wii U owners that are, might not have played it on other systems and might be chuffed it is making an appearance, why urinate on their parade? I don't think Nintendo revolve their entire software schedule around you and you alone. Me personally? I won't pick it up, not interested in the slightest, but I'm pleased some people are getting a chance to play it. I only popped in here to see the sour grapes, and you provided plenty.
Hang on a sec did I just feed a troll? (slaps wrist)
@Darknyht 18 years ago when I was in grad school I think I could have understood that. After 13 years of being a stay-at-home dad all I know is Minecraft. I've had a very binary life.
I'll be impressed if the game can have two-player local play where one person gets the gamepad and the other gets the TV. If it does that, then I'll probably pick it up.
@rjejr Rewrote that mess so that you didn't have to speak tablet autocorrect and re-enforced it with hard facts and reality work better? Sometimes what I am reading has a bad habit of leaking into what I type.
$30??? A bit late to be charging that price.
@Darknyht The only part I couldn't understand before I don't think you changed.
"I took a dynamic paraphrasing method of translating versus a literal and formal one"
Not your fault though, don't worry about it. I could probably understand it if I took the time but there are presents to be wrapped. Piles and piles of presents. I need to hire myself an elf.
@electrolite77 where are these people that see this as big news????? You and maybe two others in the world, possibly the only 3 people on earth that haven't already played and/or own this game already on another platform at nearly half the price?
Wow, just wow.
If you see this as a worry announcement after teasing with "we have an announcement for Monday, stay tuned, it will be huge" then wow, just wow.
When we are all waiting on news about NX, zelda Wii u, retro studios, my Nintendo account system, which either one would be a big announcement. Minecraft just isn't.
Still the most overrated "game" ever.
@DESS-M-8
"where are these people that see this as big news????? You and maybe two others in the world, possibly the only 3 people on earth that haven't already played and/or own this game already on another platform at nearly half the price?"
In the 394 Comments above yours for a start.
"Wow, just wow."
Oooh clever.
If you see this as a worry announcement after teasing with "we have an announcement for Monday, stay tuned, it will be huge" then wow, just wow.
The 'tease' you are talking about was one guy making a comment on a websites podcast. No Nintendo Direct, no E3 Digital Event. One comment. That should have set your expectation level....
"When we are all waiting on news about NX, zelda Wii u, retro studios, my Nintendo account system, which either one would be a big announcement. Minecraft just isn't."
....at something more realistic than this. You can stamp your feet about it all you want and petulantly call whoever you want an 'idiot', you getting overexcited at one line by a Licensing Manager in a podcast is not Nintendos fault. Or something anybody should (sigh) be fired for.
"Still the most overrated "game" ever."
I don't agree or disagree as I haven't and never intend to play it. Whether you or I like it or not is irrelevant though. When almost any third-party game is a rarity, getting one of the biggest around is significant.
@electrolite77
"Wow, just wow" was quoting another member sarcastically.
All 394 comments above me are in support if Minecraft being a huge announcement? Wrong,
A Nintendo member of staff represents Nintendo. A member of staff has recently been fired for stepping out of company guidelines. Firing this guy over minecraft was an exaggeration to stress a point, but it is still not a huge announcement. Not stamping my feet about anything. I'm pointing out that in this part of thi Wii U's lifecycle, Nintendo need to be very careful with what they say and when they say it. The whole console is already on it's knees and needs to tread carefully with how they proceed over it's final 12 months in existence with people who have invested their time and money into such a huge failure.
