Plenty of games get a bit of a bad reputation for one reason or another, and many of us who feel strongly about those titles aren't happy with how many people view them. Take Yoshi's Story for example: a game this writer played as a child and loved to pieces, so when the opportunity came up to explore the game in greater detail with a heavy focus on what some may refer to as 'comedy', there really was no holding me back.
So please, enjoy this retrospective of Yoshi's Story with a questionable amount of actual substance, most of which is replaced with a poor attempt at humour.

Damn, nice show. Looking forwads to new episodes, well played @Alex_Olney .
PS: hope you didn't get food poisoning form that bananan pell.
I will lick whoever's melons I wish, thank you very much.
And with this video, I think i'll start Yoshi's Island and finally complete it this time.
Nice video! Made me laugh; the "poor attempt at humor" worked! XD
There are a lot games I feel the same way about (absolutely love them but others don't like them as much), so I think this series is a great idea!
Right now, Alex is my favorite person.
I can't believe you took a bite from those bananas haha.My mate done that once with an onion, he tried to eat it like an apple, skin and all.
You might have actually convinced me to give Yoshi's Story a try.I never played it back in the day and have been put off getting on VC by the poor reviews but Yoshi's Island is my favourite game,I'm sure I'll get some enjoyment from it even if it's just from those lovely graphics.
@Alex_Olney , I have to say, thank you for sticking up for this game. it's always bugged me that no one else seemed to get what was good about it. It's nice to see it get some positive coverage for once!
Great video all around. I have always wondered what a banana peel might taste like, but never been brave enough to try. Now I know not to. You are a hero to us all, Alex, and may you rest well knowing the sacrifice of your taste buds was not in vain!
...just wash down that peel with some more booze, you'll be o k..
I know Alex is trying something new, which is great, but I wonder if there's any chance foul language and adult humour could be avoided. His videos up to this have been fantastic.
Despite of the common belief, I am playing this game on Wii U and I swear this game is not easy! It's very difficult, just try to get all those melons! I like the art style and that is full of secrets, so it's a game you could replay hundreds of times playing different levels and aiming for different goals each time. It's a beautiful ride each time.
However, the sound can be annoying sometimes and even the controls are a bit frustrating. I mean, the way Yoshi moves and the analogue controls, it's totally different than any other Yoshi game. I like the game, but it takes time to adjust with the controls and the way Yoshi moves and jumps. I don't like the fact that I have to stop and smell all the time. And that annoying Big Bertha... Anyway, I recommend the game because of its art, the level design, the secrets, the bosses. It's quite different, a relaxed gaming experience, more original and tuned than what you might expect and definitely not a bland platformer (Yoshi's New Island is).
Alex is the next big Youtuber in the making, keep it up. owo
The banana biting scene... oh my gosh why would you that...?
Where are the peeps defending this game to death?
@AlexOlney I also pronounce it Yah-shee and can't stand hearing Yoh-shee, and I'm in America. Thumbs up to you!
It's not melons you have to worry about, it's doorknobs.
Licking a doorknob is illegal on other planets
@Giygas_95
Yeah how dare his name like it is suppose to be. Not like the damn game doesn't give you his name's pronunciation right there when all the damn YOH SHEEs start SAYING YOH SHEE outloud or anything.
Some levels are actually difficult! The higher the number, the harder it seems to get
Love this game loads!!!
@AugustusOxy Yeah, doesn't the game say YOH SHEE at the beginning?
I'm pretty sure Alex becomes crazy only when he press the record button.
I fully understand why Yoshi's Story got such a bad reception back in the day but I think the idea that it's "easy" is a myth.
In many ways it was far ahead of its time. It wasn't a twitch arcade experience like most earlier platformers and it wasn't pushing the 3d envelope or becoming a "Rare" style collect-a-phon like its most popular contempories.
It let the players decide how much challenge they wanted without enforcing a set difficulty on them so anyone could finish it but only a few would get a great score. We pretty much expect this from all Nintendo games today but I don't remember it being as prevelant back in the late '90's.
@AugustusOxy No need to get so aggressive over it. I just prefer Alex's pronunciation of it.
I always thought the Stage intro music sounded like the Yoshi's were singing: "Be careful..."

That was cool. :] I have fond memories of this game! First game to give Yoshi his trademark voice, too. Very underrated gem!
