As you may have been aware, a range of My Nintendo rewards expired on 1st May, and new options have now been posted in North America and Europe. They're all discounts, which was expected as those that disappeared were equivalent deals.
Due to differences in regional expiry dates the North American region has a lot of new offers, whereas less have been replaced in Europe. The details are below, with the NA entries via NeoGAF.
North America
- 15% off Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - 600 Platinum points
- 15% off Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 300 Platinum points
- 15% off Pikmin 3 - 300 Platinum points
- 15% off Dr. Luigi - 230 Platinum points
- 15% off Mini Mario: Minis on the Move - 150 Platinum points
- 30% off Triforce Heroes - 100 Gold points
- 30% off Tomodachi Life - 80 Gold points
- 30% off Wonderful 101 - 70 Gold points

- 30% off Metroid Prime Trilogy - 50 Gold points
Europe
- 10% off Fire Emblem Fates - 20 Gold points
- 20% off Captain Toad - 600 Platinum points

nice!
I already have all those games, so zero interest. I'm more interested in free games like Zelda Picross and Wario Ware than discounts
I'll have to double check the current prices of all of these games. If they're down to $20 on the shop, sure
Nope. Already own the games in that list that I want.
Still not sold on these discounts and the disparity between NA and Uk offerings is abysmal
I already have all those thing :/
Shame it's not Awakening's DLC, I'd go for that.
These rewards and the whole program is terrible. Somehow they've managed to make Club Nintendo look better from the grave.
Have most of those and the rest I'm not interested in.
I own pretty much every Nintendo game there is, and I'm a physical retail collector, so the discounts for me aren't that valuable.
But, I will gladly save up plat points for a 1,000pt exclusive game every 3-4 months. No problemo.
Also, I do buy digital games on my other 3DS so I may pick up that Luigi's Mansion discount.
EDIT
Also, I'm curious what they'll do once they rotate through all their games. Probably switch over to VC games for points like CN did I imagine. Idk, I really only care about the exclusive downloads and the occasional discount for 3DS gems I can slap on my on-the-go handheld
So North America gets 10 separate deals and Europe gets 3... Nice to see we are being screwed over as usual with this stuff.
The deals also make no sense. Why does NA need 100 Gold points to get 30% off, yet Europe gets 40% off with the same?
They really need to be giving more than 30 percent discounts in return for 100 gold... That's a little ridiculous by industry standards.
How are the discounts for Europe so bad?
Also, I'm using miitomo, but it's a pain, as I don't have a Facebook or Twitter, so it's kinda empty for me and takes a very long time to build up these coins.
On another note, all those games that I got on the humble bundle, do they go towards my points?
The fact, that coins are only eligible for 6 months, and that there is no Star Fox this month, basically means the whole thing is rather pointless for me =/
There are not that many 'old' games on either the 3DS or the WiiU that I don't already own, but I still want, and looking at the bare bones release schedule for the next 12 months, I don't feel confident that will change any time soon, which again, would really lend itself well to coins that last at the very least 12 months, if not more.
bring back physical rewards and scratch cards, this is crap.
Discounts on games I somewhat already own or am not interested in. I want to see more full games as prizes even if it's just vc stuff, or other exclusive stuff like that Zelda Picross. The discounts almost don't seem worth the price. 30 percent off for Triforce heroes...after you've spent like 100 bucks...for example.
I am liking the sales. In general Nintendo has done a lot better at discounting prices. I mean the Nintendo selects are only 20USD and they are some of the best games their are. I think Nintendo's pricing is pretty fair.
It would be much better and give everyone something to aim for if they let you choose the game or discount to spend your points on.Say you can choose any NES title for 50 gold,SNES for 70,N64 for 90 and so on.The choice so far is much too limited.There's a chance someone who buys a lot of VC will have every title they offer over the 6 months and then their points expire and they lose out.Punished for buying too much.
Spend $50, save $6. What a deal!
Beyond SUCKS! Honestly, Nintendo must think we are all stupid.
I get much better deals from Microsoft and Sony and I don't have to jump through any hoops.
No good to me. I own all those Wii U games on disc and the discounts are measly especially how much you've to spend to get the discount.
-15% off Dr. Luigi - 230 Platinum points
-15% off Mini Mario: Minis on the Move - 150 Platinum points
Hardly the best digital games they could have chosen nor is the discount. I'm interested in neither game. I've nowhere near 1,000 platinum points and I've been on everyday and connected most ways possible for the bonuses. I haven't spent any either. Just 5 more months and they'll expire so for now I play the waiting game for something good.
Edit: Woah! Woah! Woah! I just reread the article? WTF? As a European we have got rightly shafted. I thought they were bad before but good God NOE you're tighter than 2 coats of paint!
Why not give us a €5 credit voucher say 500 platinum points and a €10 voucher for 100 gold points. It doesn't have to be exactly those numbers but you get the idea. That way I can spend the points on something I actually want.
@Noonch @Whopper744
That's 10% back per dollar spent. That's not that bad. Sony give you 1% back. So instead of 30% off it would be 3% off in their reward program. Granted, their selection is far, FAR superior. But thats not much good if it takes $1,000 to get a tenner.
Its not the discounts that are the issue. We just need better selection.
@readyletsgo No you don't get any gold coins for humble bundle games.
Don't have a 3DS and already got Captain Toad. I know it's all free stuff, but I have yet to see anything worthwhile...
I'm hoping to see more outnof Platinum rewards more than gold some time soon.
These discounts are lame, I want to buy physical items and digital eShop games with points not get a discount.. I miss Club Nintendo!
Sigh... more useless deals...
I might finally pick up Tomodachi Life...
Wow the new CN sucks....
I'm going to chime in and say I am not a fan of My Nintendo so far either. I sincerely hope they're holding out for something bigger... maybe the NX release or something. These discounts aren't that great, and where are the exclusive physical rewards? I got a Wii U game in the mail the other day and when I opened it i saw a Club Nintendo card. It made me kind of sad.
@SavageGM : Definitely. I've already spent all of my Platinum coins on the exclusive My Nintendo themes and the Twilight Princess Picross game.
Considering that this exclusive content must be redeemed within a short space of time makes me hate "My Nintendo" already.
Was planning to pick up toad as I missed out at launch. Perfect.
Already got Captain Toad and Animal Crossing. Bet even with the discount Fates is cheaper from Amazon etc.
Those Europe offers don't interest me. I may get Captain Toad at some point, but it will probably be cheaper here to find a physical copy than to get the 20% discount.
This has been really disappointing so far.
@Peterjr1 totally agree.
I wonder how the discount for Fates would work, would it only apply to the first version of the game you buy? If not, I'd be tempted to use the discount and save those few measly pennies.
These "amazing" discounts make my wallet happy.
good that you can get discounts with Platinum Points now. Was hoping that they would make more older DS games available :/
@Shinnos Same here.
Wow... My Nintendo is really shaping up to be... quite lame actually.
I liked Zelda Picross and Wario Ware... I even got Mario Land 2, but ... these discounts aren't very good. They need to reward us with free games, not discounts!
Hard to get excited for meager discounts on digital-only versions of games most people already own.
Well, I guess I'll use the Fire Emblem: Fates discount since I'm going digital with it but otherwise I don't really see the point in these discounts. They're a bit too small for my liking.
I don't have Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon yet, so I might go for that.
The discounts just won't be truly meaningful unless they apply to eshop only or rare games. I own all but one of the games on discount from both regions' choices anyway. It's fine for digital purchases, but digital is more expensive overall so it doesn't make financial sense.
I'd like to see exclusive items for games (beyond Miitomo) like the pre-order bonus costumes they sometimes give out or more themes. It wouldn't cost that much to allow one free theme of your choice for 500 platinum points.
Also, more parity across regions. I can understand licensing difficulties and currency fluctutations, but not 4 new discounts for EU and 10 for US, even if the older discounts are still available for EU.
I'm still happy enough overall. But, it's the exclusives that interest me.
Just discounts... Are there going to be any rewards available at some point?
My Nintendo is losing me quickly. Can't see myself bothering to gather points (play Miitomo) much longer if things don't make a dramatic turn around.
Deals for Europe are awful! :/
I hopin for some better rewards!
Still no.
@Shinnos With that avatar, I bet I can guess what sort of exclusive games you might be hoping for
Perfect!
The 2 games I wanted are YWW and Fates. Now, the points I'll receive by getting the first one will allow me to get the second. COMBO!
@crimsontadpoles It's £26 online in most places. Second hand is less. Even with the 20% off it's still more...
I own all of these games. And even if I didn't, these discounts are way too small.
@BensonUii ha, no thanks, I had Facebook for years, cesspit of nonsense. I'll just skip miitomo.
MyNintendo sucks; it's basically Club Nintendo when it was on its death bed in addition to a lame iPhone/Android app called Tomodachi Facebook except it is not fun or cool. The NX will probably suck as well.
Club Nintendo was WAY better. Even with those surveys.
Wow this is terrible. So we're gonna have to wait forever to redeem actual games and everything else is just lame discounts?
Sigh.
God, these rewards suck.
This is quite underwhelming.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE cool thanks for that!
This is pathetic! Box versions are cheaper (EU) than digitals with % of "rewards". Nintendo snap snap out of it!
It'd be nice to get Tomodachi Life again at a reduced cost since my copy got stolen and I didn't want to pay full price to rebuy it again, but I don't have any gold coins.
Screw these as most already have what they want from these lists. Give me an option for a 5$ credit to get what I want. 5 for every 50 spent otherwise I'm not interested in this program nearly as much.
Jeezuz the self entitlement here is sickening. Sure what if you already own those games. That doesn't mean other people have not bought those games. You people need to quit treating MyNintendo like its Nintendo's own personal gift to you. They also did say they are working on physical content. Also I think you all fail to realize the majority of MyNintendo was likely designed with NX in mind
@DiscoGentleman The problem is Nintendo doesnt have any legit way of telling which games exactly people already own have you ever thought of that
The only one that is tempting to me is Mario Mini's. I've got the others already already.
@Zach777 Much of the new rewards program likely was designed with NX in mind. Also you fail to remember that Nintendo is aalso bringing AC and FE to mobile which will support MyNintendo as well. Also what makes you certain NX will suck
I want to yell and type expletives after reading these rewards!!!
Wtf is nintendo thinking? Who came up with this new rewards program???
THIS IS UTTER GARBAGE! We are two months into this stupid dog and pony show of Nintendo's and there is still NOTHING of value here. I already have every effing game they are offering. Plus im not going to download these games to just save 6 bucks. If i wanted to get any of these OLD games i would buy them physically.
Nintendo can eat me at this point in my life!!!!! >:[
GameStop has Zelda Triforce Heroes for $32 new or I can use 100 gold coins and get the digital version for $31. What a deal!
Nothing very interesting that I don't already have like most of you. I was hoping for newer games not discounts
@DiscoGentleman When I see people screaming and crying and throwing mini tantrums simply because they dont like what they are offering that pretty much is self entitlement an example would be bezerker99. Also you should realize the opinion of a bunch of whiny disgruntled comments section dwellers doesn't necessarily represent the majority in real life.
The reason I brought up NX is that MyNintendo likely was designed more with NX in mind than 3DS and Wii U
You say Nintendo should take their competitions programs in mind but I don't think its fair really to compare this to PS+
The discounts and free games pretty are the reason you use this program. Sure Nintendo can use you NNID to view your purchase history but lets not act like everyone has bought those games already
At least some of those games I don't own yet
@DiscoGentleman
When I get s chance I'm definitely writing Nintendo a complaint about the new rewards system. I hate to say it, but I'd take Club Nintendo back in a heartbeat. The whole thing is just a scam. 6 months to accumulate coins is absurd. The discounts, given that you could find a physical one on sale for cheaper, is absurd. The tiers of gold coins don't match the value of the cash you put into it, is absurd. And finally, the most absurd thing is that DLC doesn't count at all. Ridiculous, cause money is money.
Don't worry though, I'll write it in a well mannered way.
This is...disappointing. :/
@DiscoGentleman Again my point sailed right over your head
The comments here sound less like valid complains and more like self entitled man children. I am not white knighting Nintendo what I am trying to get through your head is that you are not exactly looking at the bigger picture. I brought up NX for a reason you know. Please can you try to consider that this program is still in its relative infancy. Also part of the point of MyNintendo is to help draw in new customers which is partly why it integrates with Miitomo
Did Nintendo hire somebody just to come up w/ these random coin amounts?

I get them wanting to get out of the physical products business, I must have cost them a mint just in free shipping fees for all my swag, but they had the Digital Deluxe Promotion already in existence. 5% back. Plain. Simple. Easy to understand. Why create something that's seemingly so randomly generated?
Does the concept "Simplify" not exist in Japanese? The entire My Nintnedo is a mess. Way too many boxes to look over and click on. I've already linked my FB and Twitter accounts, I don't want to see those boxes anymore, make them go away.
As for the rewards, just go back to DDP. Isn't that why they opened a nearly comprehensive website for the eShop, so we can buy every game we want from out mobile device or PC? Just give us a straight discount or $ off. I don't want to spend my entire life figuring out a loyalty program.
How about this, just drop the stupid program and put games on sale on the eShop? So many indie games on sale every week, hardly ever a Nintendo game. Just do that, have monthly sales. The end.
@alasdair91 I haven't checked the math, but aren't games more expensive in Europe (at least, compared to the US, which seems to be one of the cheaper priced countries, as much as people still complain.)
I am just annoyed that to get the "gold coins", I have to purchase more digital products just to get discounts. I preferred the older code method to earn points whether digital or physical. Otherwise, just have some better shop sales, like the other companies do.
@MoonKnight7 @Wolfgabe You are incorrect on the gold coin value. Its double the lowest possible MSRP 5 dollars= 10 coins 10 dollars=20 coins and so on.
It's good to see that they are willing to do pre-release sales.
@KingMike I guess that would make sense. When it's $39.99, we usually pay £39.99 - which is roughly £13 more.
@alasdair91 I think this is one of my single biggest problems with Nintendo, they don't bother with currency conversion at all
@Marce2240 Probably one of the most logical comments I have seen on this so far. Its fairly obvious this rewards program was designed with NX in mind.
@Peterjr1 The problem is that Nintendo don't operate an RRP selling system in Europe so places can charge what they like and usually use the US price as a guideline...
While I'm all for them giving out free games or even full games at a "Reasonable" prices on this account system, I don't necessarily believe giving out discount for prices is a problem. Problem is these "Discounts" are weirdly expensive and inconsistent! "Spend 600 Plat coins to get 15 percent off of one game where as in another area if they pay half that amount they get 20 percent off!" It's like screw you. I'm only saving 6+ bucks for these weirdly expensive sales anyway. Where's the incentive to buy these deals? They need to take a page from Sony's Flash Sale or Steam and start discounting these prices at 80-90% off with less coins. These sales are too offensive. Also, Why are there two currencies? I can guarantee that NO ONE will buy that dumb 30% off of Tri-Force Heroes for a whopping 100 GOLD COINS. You're literally paying more than 50+ dollars and you'd still wouldn't have enough to buy the sale with Gold coins. This really does feel like they're trolling their customers; in a time where THEY SHOULDN'T! Considering the recent bombshell announcements what with Zelda/E3/NX as a whole.
Nintendo Account is way too complicated. Just give me a sale price or something. All this platinum and gold coin business... ugh. JUST STOP!
Q: Can I order physical copies from Nintendo? (I would try and look for an answer on Nintendo's site but it would probably be overly confusing... then disappointing)
A lot of people have been saying a lot of things about Nintendo lately. Some bad, some bad. However, a lot of these statements seem to have forgotten what a travesty this Nintendo Account and My Nintendo venture is and was. It's horrifying.
Guess I will wait for next month, I remember doing the same with CN, but at least there was stuff of interest...
@samuelvictor Idk where your from but any discount above 20% would beat retail where I live.
below 20% and its a worthless usless discount when I can get physical for 20% off MSRP with the likes of best buy and amazon(although amazon is first 2 weeks only...)
Can you stack up those two discounts for Captain Toad? 40 + 20 = 60% discount?
I've gotta say I'm not 100% sold on My Nintendo reward schemes just yet.
I won't be bothering with these discounts, I will most likely just wait to see what game rewards they will add next. I already have Wario ware ds. I'm hoping to see something good.
I'm just not buying into this new rewards system--the rewards are often the games I already own and the only thing I see myself doing with Miitomo is deleting it. I've been very disappointed with Nintendo's direction as of late, but hopefully better times are coming.
(sigh) not only do I have most of those games, but I already get 20% off anything I get from Best Buy. All of these discounts are almost useless to me.
WarioWare ans Zelda Picross got my hopes up for exclusive downloadable games but it seems in order to give everyone a chance to get them they've extended their availability into July/August. Which is fine but they should have added more than those to keep a decent rotation. These discounts are hardly worth the effort it takes to make the necessary amount of platinum points
Not digging MyNintendo as much as ClubNintendo, and it has nothing to do with entitlement or nostalgia. Club nintendo was a quirky concept that awarded people who bought nintendo products by flipping things around and offering goofy merchandise rewards as well as free games and even DLC.
This on the other hand just a run-of-the-mill digital rewards program, meant to appeal to people who can't be arsed to drive to their local gametop to pick up a game. The digital versions of these games are sometimes far more expensive than the retail copies, even brand new. It isn't that great of a service.
There are really neat, cool things they could do with this program, like offering free DLC for certain games would be a good example to say the least. Not that -they aren't- already doing that or thinking of doing it, it just hard to be motivated when nintendo literally wants me to give up buying physical games-- a process that does more than just benefit nintendo (It actually does benefit the retailers and people involved in the shipping process if you buy the physical copy. Plus you actually own it and can pass the product down to future generations or sell it if the need arises).
While I like the concept of mynintendo, I'd much rather have good ole club nintendo's codes back so I can get more useless products I don't really need.
These rewards don't even get me slightly interested in bothering with the rewards program.
By the way, @AugustusOxy ... Doras icon. Nice.
you can get the games from eBay or amazon for cheaper price even with coupons ... and you can sell them too later if you want nintendo never makes anything perfect lately
@NewAdvent This comment needs more likes
I hope more people invest in the BRILLIANT Captain Toad...its a fantastic game
Came in here expecting to see people complaining wasnt disappointed
@Wolfgabe: Watch your language please - Octane
15% off discounts is so much better than physical products man nintendo way to hit it out of the park with this new system.
Wish they were clearer with what the Fire Emblem Fates discount applies to. Does it mean Birthright or Conquest, or both and anything within the valid time period?
Pretty crappy "rewards". What's the point of amassing so many points just to get ridiculously shitty discounts?
@NewAdvent
I own three full games because of club nintendo, three full wii-u games. Not to mention music CD from smash bros, free mewtwo dlc and a bunch of other smaller, 3DS games I got for free. Plenty of amazing stuff on ClubNintendo before its death. I don't feel like waiting on mynintendo's demise before we start getting good stuff.
@edcomics
Glad someone noticed it. Thanks!
Nevermind, it seems the Fire Emblem Fates discount will apply to "purchases" (plural) from the eShop. Here's the precise wording: "My Nintendo members will also be able to exchange 20 Gold Points for a 10% discount for Fire Emblem Fates ahead of its launch, with the discount applied for purchases from Nintendo eShop between May 21 and June 16." So potentially that's worth $12 in Australia (or more if it covers DLC), almost as much as you spent to get the 20 gold coins in the first place.
Putting discounts on semi-popular old games that most people already have isn't the best idea in my opinion... it makes a lot of people have limited options to spend their coins on. I'm really hoping for physical rewards soon, since none of the rewards as of now really interest me.
And to make matters worse, with the last deals from Club Nintendo, I got Minis on the Move and Dr. Luigi! XD
@BensonUii I am fairly certain they will start rewarding points for physical copies eventually
My Nintendo is so horrible. I want a model like Club Nintendo.
@Wolfgabe @BensonUii Are you sure I can't get the 20% discount on a physical copy of Captain Toad? I can't see anything on the site about it being download only - but then I haven't hit Redeem yet...
Wake me up when we get 'actual' rewards that aren't discounts.
The discounts are next to worthless for me. I'd rather them either just give a free small title away or give a flat percent of of any purchase. That'd be more enticing. It's what the Deluxe Digital Promotion did. 5 bucks off any purchase after you hit a certain limit. This just seems like a step back. Plus the points expire in six months so... yeah... A lot of my points are just gonna be wasted
I've already got Captain Toad. I did take advantage of the Other M discount as long as I was buying the new Star Fox games. I'll keep an eye out, but nothing to see here in the current run. Good for people who haven't bought the bulk of Nintendo's releases day one like me.
@BensonUii Thanks for getting back. I can get it £27 from Nintendo if I redeem my points, and I'll get 20 gold points, and double that if I get a Selects game too (which should be the same price as elsewhere). But are you saying I can't use my points on a physical copy from Nintendo?
UPDATE: Just found this: "Points earned for purchasing software from Nintendo eShop... or from the official Nintendo website." So discounts do apply to physical copies too by the look of it.
What is cheap of them is how they want to reward us for buying digital from them with crummy stuff. Oh sure, it's a 'gift' and some other companies don't give crap, but the fact is that in digital they don't ship stuff, pay storage, give a cut to retailers etc.... no, they make us pay the same price but... with a crummy gift.
Discounts are nice enough for silver points though.
At this point, I'd like to see some way to spend some platinum coins (it can be a lot, like 1000 plat coins) and redeem them for a $10 eshop gift card code. 15%-30% off these games is not ever going to be that interesting when I already own most of them. The special games like Zelda Picross are nice but if they only have one of those each year or so, I can say right now that the old club nintendo rewards setup was better. At least I had a reason to check that every month.
@NewAdvent
There were several promotions that garnered you free games for getting your club nintendo account to a certain level. Also, lots of 3DS games and lesser wii-u game could be bought for coins in the last year of ClubNintendo.
I can see the appeal of not having to buy things, or 'achievement' based rewards, but I'd still like some kind of reward for continuing to buy physical games. Overall, I'm fine with the discounts, but I'd prefer something a bit more quirky, a bit more out of the box than some deals. Particularly when buying most of these games digitally is more than their physical release price.
I feel like this program has HUGE potential, but as I stated before, I want something a bit more unique. Maybe 3DS home themes, DLC for certain games, things like that. There is a lot of untapped potential and the idea of discounts just isn't as exciting for me.
Psh. Lousy 'rewards', as usual. What a big disappointment...
Correction on my previous statement, they are doing some of the things I suggested, I'm just stating I'd like to see more of it or perhaps an expansion upon the concept.
For me, digital discounts are nice, but I'd rather be giving free/discounts on things that are solely digital to begin with. If that makes sense?
For me, getting a discount on a game that I can pick up retail isn't that enticing, but getting FREE DLC for a game I've already beat and would love to revisit, well that is pretty darn cool.
I'm still more in favor of ClubNintendo, flaws in all, they really had something great going near the end of its run. I'm really hoping that MyNintendo works a bit more away from the huge focus on its mobile title, Miitomo.
lol
I'm getting sick of Nintendo dropping the ball. My Nintendo has been a massive disappointment for me.
Well 30% off could push me to get W101 or DKCTF...
Too bad My Nintendo is kind of a terrible program and I haven't really bothered with it.
The amount of gold points required for some of these rewards is ridiculous. 100 gold points for 30% off Triforce Heroes!? That's a $12 discount you had to spend at least $100 to get.
Platinum rewards are fine (I'm a week out from TP Picross), the gold rewards are abysmal.
Yeah, I think the discounts part of the program is going to flop big time. My prediction is that they will begin offering VC games or DLC for gold rewards. Platinum will be reserved for the occasional free game and mobile reward.
With that said though, I've been eyeing Pikmin 3 for a long time....
We want real rewards. Bring back Club Nintendo and save yourself the embarrassment.
I'm mildly interested in the Metroid Prime Trilogy discount, but since it uses gold coins, it'll be near impossible for me to get.
Would it kill Nintendo to start including My Nintendo codes in physical game purchases?
How utterly underwhelming
Well the other active deals all have different end dates, so hopefully it shouldnt be too long till the next chance of a decent deal...
The discounts so far are mediocre really. I only have a Wii U and I prefer physical over digital on retail games, so while I do buy eShop games now and then, I'm not reaching 100 gold points any time soon. Not in six months. Also, Miitomo is not available in my country, so I get no points from there.
I hope Nx retail games come with codes for MyNintendo like Club Nintendo did. Otherwise, they'll be screwing over about half of their user base, the one that prefers physical format. And I sincerely hope Nx is not a digital distribution only platform, one would figure that Nintendo wouldn't be mad enough to do it, but I don't know what to expect from them anymore. If it is, though, I'm officially out.
@Wolfgabe
If you are purchasing Nintendo's products and keeping it in business, you have every right to complain and make your opinion known. Even more so when you list ways it could be improved as opposed to purely complaining.
And if you are one of Nintendo's most loyal customers, there is a strong chance you already have the discounted games on offer, or not interested in the ones you don't have.
My Nintendo is very flawed right now, and as @DiscoGentleman said, all it is doing is encouraging me not to purchase Nintendo games at or near launch, because my reward for doing so is to be offered a pittance discount on those games I already have. If I want to buy another copy, it would be cheaper to purchase said game from a store, and if I buy any new game from a store, I gets no reward. That's just backwards. I don't even mind it for Platinum and Miitomo coins, because those can easily be earned free. My beef is with the gold coin discounts. Tweak those and there would be much more happy customers.
The one thing I'll agree with you on is that it is likely made with NX in mind foremost, but NX is a year away, so we can only comment on what we have to work with now. And what we have to work with so far is a step forward and two steps back from Club Nintendo.
@BensonUii That's true, but I was coming up with a quick example. I know Nintendo would never be that generous, or they would have to severely alter the current methods for generating coins. Or switch platinum for gold in my example, whatever.
Is it me, or are the rewards even worse than they were last month?
Also, I noticed that recently they added a way to input a code to get your coins. Most likely, we are going to see physical games have a code insert, at least on NX.
Anyone else think gold coins should never expire? The 6 month expiration thing is going to really mess some people up...
The Wii U digital deluxe program they did was honestly a lot better.
I'm really enjoying the free Zelda Picross game but really there's not much else on offer yet. Like others I think a good selection of free virtual console games would be a decent reward.
No new games? I've almost 2000 platinum coins but nothing to spend them on
@BensonUii I don't have any gold points - but I have enough Miitomo/Platinum points to get 20% off Captain Toad on the UK Nintendo site. They give free delivery and gold points into my account so it's not too shabby really.
These are terrible, I hope they do much better than this or there isn't any point
@Shinnos
Same here, Tingle.
How the hell does an article like this get this many comments?
@BinaryFragger Of course there is room for improvement no denying that. What I cant understand is why the heck are people writing it off as dead even though its only two months old. its just too soon to pass full judgement. A discount is a fair reward with platinum points. I don't even have Miitomo but I can still get 120 plat points a week simply by accessing the ehsop, miiverse and my account. Its highly likely in the future they will start making physical copies eligible for points.
The reason it's older games at this moment as someone else pointed out is likely because the newer games havent been out long enough for them to start knocking down the price and offering discounts.
Another thing to note is that contrary to popular belief Nintendo's digital sales have been steadily increasing each year lately.
Its fairly obvious this was sort of slapped on with current systems. When NX comes around MyNintendo will really start to come together. There have been rumors saying you may get points for achievements
They suck big time, and no one can deny it.
@BensonUii I bet you're right. I've sent an email to ask - because heaven forbid the website should be easy to understand. Oh Nintendo, why must everything be so hard?
I read "My Nintendo Awards May Have Been Updated"...
I think the rewards for platinum coins are fine, two exclusives themes and two exclusive games, but the rewards for gold coins sucks.
And these discounts are too low. I hope they give better rewards for gold coins.
@Mario_Fart It's just for digital.if you purchase it through the store it'll start downloading automatically to your Wii U.You will get 50 gold points for it though,just 10 short of Metroid Fusion.
Looks at the list of rewards and then his list of games
Fold.
Slumps back in chair
New Club Nintendo is extremely unappealing to me.
Glad that some people are still happy with what's on offer though.
The discounts are ridiculous (except for one game, Captain Toad) because the eShop prices are too high.
Example:
Fire Emblem Fates. You need to spend €10-19.99 to get 20 gold coins and get a 10% discount which is just €4 less if the game costs €40.
I find these rewards underwhelming, 15% off is nothing to get excited about.
15% off is too little; 30% off isn't really hot if you consider how much you have to spend in order to get it. I'm very disappointed.
Still no physical rewards yet??
I do not like owning digital games. I buy a physical copy of every game that I want, unless it is digital only.
Plus, like many have said in other comments, most already have these games anyway.
Nope. Most of the discounted games I either own or don't want. And the May discounts for Europe are really sparse...
@BensonUii
I think the problem is the old Club Nintendo was so good that it spoiled everyone. Gold Nunchuks, Mario statues, soundtracks... The only reason the rewards were so fantastic was because Nintendo was selling 100 million Wii and 150 million DS. They could afford it, but I knew it wasn't going to last.
So when you compare it to the old, old CN system everything falls short. But looking at it as just an extra bonus for money you're spending anyways this is perfectly fine. Certainly better than the last few years of CN. Where all they offered was black and white Gameboy VC and Wiiware.
I mean, ya I'd love to see physical games get coins, and a larger selection... Most definitely. But I'm sitting on 2 WarioWare Touched and 2 Zelda Picross for free. In a month. And close to getting DKC Returns VC download, and probably gonna scoop that Luigi's Mansion 2 coupon. Maybe. I really can't complain.
@FX29 @OrakioRob
But it's 15% off for nothing. That's the thing, we're getting 15% off just for absolutely free.
The 30% off equates to 10% back per dollar spent. 30% off a $40 game is $12 off. And you spend $100 to get those 100 coins. Maybe a little less. That's not bad.
@OorWullie Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. So they give the Wii U a tiny memory and then reward us for downloads only! It's like they find a small way to frustrate their customers every day, innit? Next stop PS4 for me.
@rjejr
The points are really not random at all. 100 platinum points = 8 gold points = $1 discount on all of those. It's the price of the games in the eShop that varies wildly. If anything they've simplified this time around by making all of the platinum discounts 15% and all of the gold ones 30%.
A lot of people are viewing this as a loyalty program, but does it work at all as an enticement program? If you're a new Miitomo user and don't have a Nintendo system, would you be enticed by these discounts/free games to pony up for a system and see what the fuss is all about? Remember that part of Nintendo's stated goal is to increase awareness of their products and drive sales to their platforms. Does this work in doing that? I'm not in that boat so I couldn't say for sure, but I suspect that the answer unfortunately is not really.
@brideck "100 platinum points = 8 gold points = $1"
"platinum discounts 15% and all of the gold ones 30%."
Thanks for clearing that up, I assumed there had to be some logic to it somewhere, but then why not just have 100 plat = 10 gold, why 8? And if plat = gold why not just make all the discounts 15% or 30%? Somebody still has to decide which games are 15% off and which are 30% off correct? Wouldn't it be easier to just make it equal amounts like the DDP did, 10% back? The DDP worked just fine, I hardly ever read any complaints about it. This seems about 80% against.
Meh, nothing really worth it tbh
Holy moly some people are demanding. This program has been out for a month and I already have an exclusive Picross game and enough points to get a number of discounts/3DS themes. If you just do the bare minimum easiest "missions," you'll have tons of platinum points to spend, and none of that even costs you any money.
There's nothing on there I'm aching to get right now, but the points don't expire for several more months so I think I'll just wait it out until next month. Although I am eyeing that Metroid Prime Trilogy discount... I have all the games for their original systems so I've never felt like investing in the trilogy, but a reduced price might make it worthwhile to have them all in one spot.
Also, I'm curious, if you buy a discounted title through My Nintendo, do you get gold points based on the game's full value? That would be a nice bonus.
@BensonUii You are right, but the concept of "spending €10-19.99 to get 20 gold coins" is out there because normally eShop prices are extremely expensive. However, as you pointed out, some games are discounted and you get the same gold coins, although most of them are indie and not Nintendo games.
The discounts are not bad by default, but the expensive pricing of the eShop is what makes them insufficient for most people.
Example: I want to get Fire Emblem Fates digitally, both versions plus the third path, but is this 10% discount enough for me to jump in early or is it ridiculous compared to physical deals and I feel ripped-off?
Nothing that I haven't already played or not interested in. I'll check back in June.
I hate to admit it but My Nintendo is probably not for me. There is very little left in the Wii U library that interests me and I have already purchased what did. I think Nintendo greatly misunderstood that under the old system when they gave me a game like Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze or Pikmin 3 as a reward they didn't lose a sale (especially at traditionally overpriced Nintendo prices) as I never really intended on buying them in the first place. Had I actually enjoyed them, then they may have gotten a sale later on a sequel.
But a 15% or even 30% discount really isn't going to move me to make a purchase on those games. It might get me to purchase a game I am mildly interested in, but only if I have a pile of cash sitting around doing nothing.
They also need to deal with the reality that not everyone owns both systems. There was nothing appealing as far as digital rewards for someone like me (who only owns Wii U) so far. Discounts on games I own don't appeal, and the stuff that would be interesting all resided on the 3DS (Zelda Picross for example).
I already have all those games(just missing two) that I want.
I never thought I'd miss the mess that was Club Nintendo but here I am
Gold points go to virtual console games, not discounts.
And Platinum to Wario Ware.
@BensonUii Thanks. Unfortunately my Wii U's HD has only 1GB left so I'd have a buy an external HD which negates any savings.
