Inaccurate as hell depiction of Yasuke. Not gonna even waste time explaining why when researching who Yasuke actually was tells the story. Hint: For starters he wasn’t a sword singing samurai that killed scores of Japanese in feudal Japan. He wasn’t even a samurai btw. Actual Japanese historians also debunked Ubisofts depiction of the person despite Ubisofts “Japanese consultant” (who was another can of worms of controversy) insisting the accuracy. He was more accurately a Sodomy partner for Nobu like his other retainers if anything.
Inaccurate as hell architecture for the location and time period. It’s literally more Chinese than Japanese that is how bad their “research” was. Not me making this up. Ubisoft even admits this during their delay notes about the inaccurate setting.
Scenes like Japanese peasants bowing down to Yasuke is also hilariously inaccurate (Ubisoft invention) to the feudal Japanese caste system. For one Yasuke was one of many retainers of Nobu and Nobu of all people wouldn’t have him go around town making farmers bow down to him let alone the other retainers. Btw racism was still very much alive back then.
Just to put a cherry on top their merchandising was hilariously tone deaf when they were selling toys depicting WWII Japanese memorials for profit. They since pulled that crap out.
This wasn’t the first fiction or game that showed off Yasuke btw. There was no controversy for any of those. This is the first one where a Western group messed up the depiction that badly.
If they didn’t care about historical accuracy and made the black samurai playable character (again something that has been done before with no controversy) an OC then that alone would get rid of like 25% of the controversy.
Ubisoft could evaporate tomorrow and game industry would be fine. Outlaws was a disaster and Japan is ripping up the AC game based in Japan for good reason lol.
Tone deaf companies should go under and not be bailed out.
Someone in this comment section really needs to learn about the edit function lol. You know… instead of posting like three or four times in a row within a short time frame apart. This isn’t Twitch chat.
Right because remake of beloved Capcom zombie shooter classic (especially in Japan where RE4 was rated the highest) is totally the same thing as new IP jrpg on PlayStation.
I just gave you a more…closer realistic comparison with SH2, but I guess you just want to troll.
@johnedwin Why would that game sell anywhere close to 200 especially when it’s not on Switch…? Did you forget how the last non Persona Atlus game that wasn’t on Nintendo did? Soul Hackers 2 PS4 + PS5 barely did 50k.
FYI the overall message context is still largely the same after reading the “fixed” version.
Makes you wonder why he bothered with the “I was misquoted” if it was largely over nitpicks as if THAT was why people were losing their minds lol.
It’s not like he was praising everything instead lol. It’s still old Japanese men doing their rant on the West. So yeah this wasn’t a “Musk was being evil and chuds being chuds” scenario some people here are envisioning about.
This is 100% damage control from SE (including with original video taken down) because they likely didn’t expect the DQ creator being “too frank” with his views and potentially scaring away their Western market lol.
Is Chris Pratt gonna voice Chris Pratt again or Mario this time? Guy can’t range to save his life. My optimist side is that he learned after the first movie, but doubtful.
Jack Black meanwhile carried the voice casting because he was the one by far in the cast with actual voice acting experience in spades. Hell Jack can even sing and did so in the movie with great positive reception.
Jack Black in Mario carried as much as Jim Carrey did for the Sonic movies. Both as the main villain. Go figure.
@Arehexes The “is it a really big deal?” goes both ways. Gaming industry went fine with “boy or girl” “male or female” etc. for decades. Last I checked back in the early days of Pokemon when Professor asked if you were a boy or girl there was no controversy from both children and adults alike. At this rate is the final destination of this rabbit hole gonna be “Cis Male” “Cis Female” and “Trans”?
@Poco_Lypso Yup. Hilarious that the person responded to me posted just a Reddit link of all things as if that does ANYTHING for his argument lol.
I will trust the multiple ACTUAL Japanese historians (not the joker Ubisoft used and certainly not a random Reddit link) in Japan that criticized Ubisoft’s blatantly inaccurate culture portrayal in the game. Ubisoft couldn’t even get the architecture right. Lot of it was CHINESE in origin.
Anyone that acts like Japan loves how this AC is portrayed (like how Ubisoft’s “Japanese Consultant” acted like Japan would LOVE this AC) are just as tone deaf as the Ubisoft merchandising team that used a WWII memorial for game profit.
@MegaVel91 Moral issue? You think Nintendo is doing this over morals? lol. No. Hell I’m not even taking the morale route with this. You don’t need to.
It’s just common sense to not cheer for thieves especially when it’s thievery over video games of all things. This isn’t a “Little Timmy stealing bread for his younger sister” scenario.
Congratulations for being a Joey Little along with the other users here going “I only preserve!” Or “emulating got me to buy Nintendo games! Honest!” You are all the drop in the bathtub full of piracy. That doesn’t change anything in the end from a Nintendo perspective.
Nintendo doing this based on the most non biased way possible: They see X game being downloaded Y amount of times (sometimes for even profit lol) before the game even dropped. That is all the justification they need and unfortunately collateral damage (the “good apples”) happens due to it.
People like you still fail to comprehend this and love throwing out every flimsy justification out of your butt to try to paint Nintendo as the bad guy when you are blaming the wrong people for all of this. Then later have the surprise Pikachu face when Nintendo actually does something about it time and time again with multiple first party games getting stolen at this point.
If people TRULY were just emulating because “I just want to preserve” or “I just want the game in better specs after I bought it” then the numbers would tell a different story.
@VoidofLight Cool. Can you speak for the ones that did? Tears literally got pirated day -1 and probably cost Nintendo millions of lost revenue when they hit the LAST one lol. Just chalk it up as “people ruining it for the rest of us.”
Some of these past comments aged like milk (again) from the last emulation closure article…
Anyway I’m all for less parasites because let’s be real vast majority was never for the “game preservation” meme and just want free video gaming on brand new Nintendo games lol. The “Emulation ISN’T piracy” crowd need to understand that.
@Vexx234 You mean the grossly historically inaccurate (and quite frankly tone deaf based on their merchandising decisions) Ubisoft game that Japan audience crapped on for not respecting culture and said inaccuracies was cited for one of the reasons for the delay?
Yasuke wasn’t even a samurai, but a retainer (that had no evidence of actually doing any fighting for Nobu.) that Nobu kept around as a novelty pet (again history mentions how Nobu was an arrogant man that does things on a whim.) and if you knew anything about feudal Japanese history, Nobu more likely kept him as a sodomy partner then swinging a sword at Japanese lol.
Reminder Ubisoft’s sole “Japanese consultant” was a joke fanfiction writer and actual Japanese historians could make a book about the historically inaccuracy in the game. The architecture is more Chinese than Japanese for starters lol.
Nobody denies Yasuke existed including Japan. This is far from his first portrayal. It’s that everyone with a brain dismissed this ludicrous portrayal for Yasuke because Ubisoft is more focused on checkboxes than games which is no wonder why everything has been going to hell for them lately especially after the Outlaws flop.
Yeah I’m just gonna wait until Nintendo actually reveals it. They were all wrong when the OLED dropped so I doubt they will be right about the next system lol.
Still annoyed they got rid of the blood for an awkward rewind.
The blood worked for the overall game atmosphere which gave the series a unique extreme sport feel. It’s not like the blood was ever over excessive. It wasn’t Mortal Kombat. You felt those impacts when you did one too many spins on a half pipe or lost your balance grinding.
The games was never about realism with the things you can do anyway so weird they drew a line on that.
Sport game that is Soccer (for us Americans) debuting #1 in UK is expected. That Zelda game would have to be another BoTW scope level game to have a chance to be #1in same week and even then I doubt because you have to keep in mind UK is heavy Sony land.
Most of these “rumors” are incredibly safe/boring that anyone with half a brain could have just predicated on their own. At this point might as well say there is gonna be a Mario game at/close to launch for it.
I mean at the end of the day years of these kinds of PR words can only take you so far.
You say you want to “grow the AA series” yet this entire Switch gen there hasn’t been a single new AA game. A lot of ports sure, but no new game. I don’t see how that is “growing” the series especially if the news turns out to be be another anime or concert like they did before with this kind of “Hey we hyping something for AA! It’s not a new game though.”
This law doesn’t actually do anything and if anything does more harm then good. Cool you point out the super obvious, but now good luck actually trying to push for anything beyond that now with that wording.
@VHSGREMLIN This has to be either bait or just plain ignorant about the issues in California. The Beverly Hills/Hollywood elite bubble doesn’t reflect the rest of the state.
Homeless rates is stupid high that there are tent cities, cost of living is absurd even for a 1 room apartment in a crap area, cities like San Francisco that used to be a great tourist spot two decades ago is a trash dump full of thieves exploiting bad state laws, the beaches has been disgusting with the pollution over the years, I can go on.
If California was so amazing of a “utopia” as some were to claim then why is states like Nevada getting an absurd rise of state residence changes from California despite Vegas having hotter weather, no beach, etc? For California sake I wish it was “for no reason you just hating”, but reality says otherwise.
Also the “Silicon Valley produces stuff! You can’t criticize California” logic is laughably bad. Putting aside the obvious of Silicon Valley not negating the real issues California has….by that logic China should never be criticized because something in your home is manufactured from China.
Only thing objectively great about California is the weather right now tbh, but if you just wanted that then there are other places you can go.
@larryisaman There was next to no value. Even in the remaster version on more platforms including the way more popular Switch it didn’t make a big splash.

Fatal Bullet was OK, but Freedom Wars gave a different experience which honestly was preferable to me. Freedom Wars had PLENTY of issues though and at least so far they are addressing how bad the RNG weapon crafting was.
Would also buy Soul Sacrifice Delta and Tainted Bloodlines again. Killzone Mercs was also fun.
@Ruler-Of-All-Evil No idea what you are talking about. I bought Resurrection. Lot of other people understandably didn’t. People shouldn’t be held hostage to buy the same multiple copies of Vamp Savior for years just so I’m graced with a sequel lol.
If they don’t make another Darkstalkers before I’m dead then oh well. It’s not like the market of fighting games is gonna be scarce anytime soon if I touch Capcom fighters less often. As I said earlier, SNK alone is pulling their weight with fighting game variety. I didn’t even have to rebuy Mark of the Wolves five times to get a sequel imagine that!
There is no such thing as “safe” investments anyway. Street Fighter the darling of Capcom fighters almost flopped with SFV with how bad the launch was. Capcom had to damage control the game’s entire post release run addressing the issues slowly to fix it to become a success at the end. That definitely wasn’t a “YOUR fault” moment either btw. So none of this “It’s YOUR fault.” BS. End of the day Capcom is the one that decides on whatever arbitrary threshold is their current whim on what gets made or not.
Just to put into context on why this same song and dance from Capcom for years grinds my gears would be like if Capcom went “Sorry you won’t get Street Fighter VII yet. First you need to prove yourself by buying SFII for the millionth time then if sales are good for THAT rerelease THEN you spend more money on top of what you spent for SFVII itself.”
Yes, it’s ridiculous at this point that SF as a brand would do this kind of cycle to begin with, but it’s just as ridiculous if they thought Marvel won’t be attractive to the fighting game crowd especially after all the Marvel type fighters that dropped that sold well. I don’t need to be an overpaid corpo to come to that conclusion. Just give it actual budget and a good roster this time so it won’t be sent out to die.
@LadyCharlie They should NOT have to do this again for Marvel hilarious enough. Only reason MvC 3 got made was because the LAST rerelease of MvC 2 sold good.
I don’t doubt this collection will sell good as well, but this series shouldn’t be in the “we need to see if this brand will sell…” camp. MvC already proved itself years ago. A new Marvel type game should already be in the works if they were ever interested to have another active fighter alongside SF. Games like DBFZ that filled the marvel fighter void for years shows the Marvel formula is still popular if
A) The actual game is good in all fronts
And
B) The roster and brand is popular.
Infinite not being well received should be because it had LOADS of issues NOT because nobody wants MvC. Infinite had a fraction of SFV budget lol.
Translation: “You are only getting new Street Fighter games for the foreseeable future still.”
This is the same PR speak they did regarding a new Darkstalkers fighter for years lol. Yeah that was a fun ride.
At this point just make it a normal Capcom vs Capcom focused fighter if Marvel is gonna try to do another Infinite type strong arming which nobody in the Marvel community wants again. Capcom has plenty of characters to choose from their own IP for a 3 vs 3 fighting roster.
Meanwhile loving SNK not doing a modern Capcom and not just doing KoF forever. Wolves sequel, SamSho sequel, AoF sequel, etc. SNk fighting fans eating good now.
Nintendo consoles tend to be cheaper than their competition. They don’t focus on chasing the biggest specs and focus on producing quality enjoyable games.
No I’m not expecting Nintendo to “PS3 it” or more recently the PS5 Pro lol. Wouldn’t be surprised if $400 was the launch.
Reminder Switch never a had a single price increase unlike Sony. Nintendo’s gameplan is to make their entire ecosystem flourish. Buy their system and then buy their games. A stupid expensive console only prevents them from buying their games.
Gonna be another Borderlands scenario. Should have made it animated like Mario or at least a hybrid like Sonic if they wanted any chance of success. I can already tell the people that get overpaid as hell for these decisions went
Minecraft = lots of fans
Jack Black = popular
There were successful movie adaptions of videogames
@TheBitBandit Pretty sure there is an in-between for ‘rushed’ and TBD limbo. Also there are plenty of examples in gaming history where delays still end with bugs in the end so that saying isn’t even really accurate.
Sounds about right reception wise like the first two games. It’s not gonna appeal to mainstream audience.
The Famicom games are cult favorite status to begin with and the 3rd game isn’t making drastic changes to appeal to modern gamers. Reading the NL reviews complaining how it’s not scary enough just proves my point. It’s not gonna drastically shift to what it never was identity wise.
Those that liked the first two games like me have a good chance to like Emio based on the demos because it feels like a new Famicom game, but those who were not fans of the first two games isn’t gonna like the 3rd game. Famicom isn’t Dangonronpa or Ace Attorney in atmosphere and certainly not Corpse Party levels in horror visuals.

Meanwhile loving SNK not doing a modern Capcom and not just doing KoF forever. Wolves sequel, SamSho sequel, AoF sequel, etc. SNk fighting fans eating good now.
Re: Soapbox: Sony's Insane PS5 Pro Price Highlights The Delicate Balance Nintendo Must Strike With 'Switch 2'
Re: Minecraft Fans Apologise To 'Story Mode' In Response To Live-Action Movie Reveal
Gonna be another Borderlands scenario. Should have made it animated like Mario or at least a hybrid like Sonic if they wanted any chance of success. I can already tell the people that get overpaid as hell for these decisions went
Re: Mario & Luigi: Brothership Trailer Welcomes You To Concordia
Hilarious. Concord really was an eight year and nine figure investment that went down the drain in less than two weeks. Modern day E.T
Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! Launches Retro Games Social Media Account For 'Early Days Collection'
Bring back Duelist of Roses so I can see how the War of the Roses ACTUALLY happened again.
Re: Japanese Charts: There's No Catching Powerful Pro Baseball In Another Quiet Week
@SBandy1 They have to make up those Concord losses somehow lol
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club
@IceClimbersMain People probably thought this was gonna be Corpse Party or something lol.
Re: It Looks Like Guilty Gear Strive Is Coming To Switch
Please port Xrd Rev 2. That game is actually done, still has enough GG identity, and should run fine on Switch.
Re: Stardew Valley Creator Shares New Update About Version 1.6 Console Ports
@TheBitBandit Pretty sure there is an in-between for ‘rushed’ and TBD limbo. Also there are plenty of examples in gaming history where delays still end with bugs in the end so that saying isn’t even really accurate.
Re: The First Review For Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club Is In
Sounds about right reception wise like the first two games.
Re: Review: Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club (Switch) - A Stylish Mystery With One Foot In The Past
Enjoyed the demos. Not like there is gonna be a new AA game dropping any time soon so this game scratches my mystery VN itch.
