@larryisaman There was next to no value. Even in the remaster version on more platforms including the way more popular Switch it didn’t make a big splash.
Compare to something like Astral Chain that Nintendo now owns because that sold way more (on just one platform btw) hence more value in Nintendo eyes.
I enjoyed W101 for what it was, but end of day it’s a very niche appeal type of game.
I like that this was saved from Vita and also wasn’t left to die by being a PS5 exclusive or something. Fatal Bullet was OK, but Freedom Wars gave a different experience which honestly was preferable to me. Freedom Wars had PLENTY of issues though and at least so far they are addressing how bad the RNG weapon crafting was.
Would also buy Soul Sacrifice Delta and Tainted Bloodlines again. Killzone Mercs was also fun.
@Ruler-Of-All-Evil No idea what you are talking about. I bought Resurrection. Lot of other people understandably didn’t. People shouldn’t be held hostage to buy the same multiple copies of Vamp Savior for years just so I’m graced with a sequel lol.
If they don’t make another Darkstalkers before I’m dead then oh well. It’s not like the market of fighting games is gonna be scarce anytime soon if I touch Capcom fighters less often. As I said earlier, SNK alone is pulling their weight with fighting game variety. I didn’t even have to rebuy Mark of the Wolves five times to get a sequel imagine that!
There is no such thing as “safe” investments anyway. Street Fighter the darling of Capcom fighters almost flopped with SFV with how bad the launch was. Capcom had to damage control the game’s entire post release run addressing the issues slowly to fix it to become a success at the end. That definitely wasn’t a “YOUR fault” moment either btw. So none of this “It’s YOUR fault.” BS. End of the day Capcom is the one that decides on whatever arbitrary threshold is their current whim on what gets made or not.
Just to put into context on why this same song and dance from Capcom for years grinds my gears would be like if Capcom went “Sorry you won’t get Street Fighter VII yet. First you need to prove yourself by buying SFII for the millionth time then if sales are good for THAT rerelease THEN you spend more money on top of what you spent for SFVII itself.”
Yes, it’s ridiculous at this point that SF as a brand would do this kind of cycle to begin with, but it’s just as ridiculous if they thought Marvel won’t be attractive to the fighting game crowd especially after all the Marvel type fighters that dropped that sold well. I don’t need to be an overpaid corpo to come to that conclusion. Just give it actual budget and a good roster this time so it won’t be sent out to die.
@LadyCharlie They should NOT have to do this again for Marvel hilarious enough. Only reason MvC 3 got made was because the LAST rerelease of MvC 2 sold good.
I don’t doubt this collection will sell good as well, but this series shouldn’t be in the “we need to see if this brand will sell…” camp. MvC already proved itself years ago. A new Marvel type game should already be in the works if they were ever interested to have another active fighter alongside SF. Games like DBFZ that filled the marvel fighter void for years shows the Marvel formula is still popular if
A) The actual game is good in all fronts
And
B) The roster and brand is popular.
Infinite not being well received should be because it had LOADS of issues NOT because nobody wants MvC. Infinite had a fraction of SFV budget lol.
Translation: “You are only getting new Street Fighter games for the foreseeable future still.”
This is the same PR speak they did regarding a new Darkstalkers fighter for years lol. Yeah that was a fun ride.
At this point just make it a normal Capcom vs Capcom focused fighter if Marvel is gonna try to do another Infinite type strong arming which nobody in the Marvel community wants again. Capcom has plenty of characters to choose from their own IP for a 3 vs 3 fighting roster.
Meanwhile loving SNK not doing a modern Capcom and not just doing KoF forever. Wolves sequel, SamSho sequel, AoF sequel, etc. SNk fighting fans eating good now.
Nintendo consoles tend to be cheaper than their competition. They don’t focus on chasing the biggest specs and focus on producing quality enjoyable games.
No I’m not expecting Nintendo to “PS3 it” or more recently the PS5 Pro lol. Wouldn’t be surprised if $400 was the launch.
Reminder Switch never a had a single price increase unlike Sony. Nintendo’s gameplan is to make their entire ecosystem flourish. Buy their system and then buy their games. A stupid expensive console only prevents them from buying their games.
Gonna be another Borderlands scenario. Should have made it animated like Mario or at least a hybrid like Sonic if they wanted any chance of success. I can already tell the people that get overpaid as hell for these decisions went
Minecraft = lots of fans
Jack Black = popular
There were successful movie adaptions of videogames
@TheBitBandit Pretty sure there is an in-between for ‘rushed’ and TBD limbo. Also there are plenty of examples in gaming history where delays still end with bugs in the end so that saying isn’t even really accurate.
Sounds about right reception wise like the first two games. It’s not gonna appeal to mainstream audience.
The Famicom games are cult favorite status to begin with and the 3rd game isn’t making drastic changes to appeal to modern gamers. Reading the NL reviews complaining how it’s not scary enough just proves my point. It’s not gonna drastically shift to what it never was identity wise.
Those that liked the first two games like me have a good chance to like Emio based on the demos because it feels like a new Famicom game, but those who were not fans of the first two games isn’t gonna like the 3rd game. Famicom isn’t Dangonronpa or Ace Attorney in atmosphere and certainly not Corpse Party levels in horror visuals.
That said you never needed to play Sky 1 to enjoy the Crossbell, Erebonia, or Calvard games since they were largely self contained regardless of the amount of cameos or brief reference throwaway lines they may or may not have.
If you never played the Sky games still though you might as well wait for this release at this point.
@Chadbury Yup. Same crap happened over the “Switch Pro” fiasco. Nintendo didn’t say crap about that, but leakers kept fanning the flames for something that never existed in the first place (no the OLED wasn’t it since these old leak descriptions are not accurate to the OLED at all besides the safe guess it was gonna have an OLED screen lol.)
I thought that tagline was thrown for RF5 which didn’t exactly leave the series at a good note (not talking about performance either since I wish that was the only issue.)
I’m all for gambling on new settings, art styles, combat, farming methods etc., but let’s be real on one thing: RF games thrive or flop based on how well writing, the amount, and most importantly VARIED (looking at you 5) the romance targets are. That is one of the main things RF has over most other farm sim games.
It’s anime farming that has battles and romances you can marry. Play to that as your main focus and everything else will work out.
I mean they are gonna say it as much as they have to otherwise people are gonna take silence as confirmation that it’s gonna get revealed, then it doesn’t, and then act like Nintendo “tricked” them.
Played thru classic trilogy, Great Ace Attorney duel collection, and “Apollo Justice” trilogy (inaccurate name since he was the main focus of one game, but whatever) so ready to play thru this duel collection now.
Hopefully this means a new game is coming because it is still weird there hasn’t been a new game this entire Switch gen. At least Emio might scratch that itch.
Kind of a harsh score for an actual decent Switch port. Don’t get too many of those these days that aren’t from an old game. I gave it a 8. This is from someone that isn’t much of a OP fan compared to other works.
Yeah the visuals took a hit, but what do you expect when utilizing proper context that this game was originally on way better hardware? Something was gonna get sacrificed and I would rather a marginal hit on graphics then anything else.
I don’t think being a turn based game on the simple end is necessarily any worse than being on the convoluted ended if the execution was done well. It’s basic, but the basics here doesn’t have any real issues. It’s just the classic “which is better: DQ style or Persona style?” where former refines on the basics while latter tries to stuff in as many mechanics as possible.
In any case Odysseys real issue is they gave the game not nearly as much post release support as they should compared to other OP games so community usually considered Odyssey a “came and went” type of game.
Little over 10 million to surpass DS feels doable considering Switch realistically will still be sold for at least another couple years even after the new console drops. Switch still never got a real price cut.
@Ryoth “Held back” in what way? Graphics in compared to World? Monster Hunter series outside of World was never about that.
You can make the same argument that World was “held back” by not being wildly available to a portable gamer audience that it had built up for years for. There is clearly a demand for that considering Rising sold well just from Switch alone before it ever got ported to other platforms.
End of the day World and Rise are very different Monster Hunter games and how one prefers the other is based on personal preference. General consensus is gameplay wise it depends how you prefer your tempo whether you want a more faster hunt or not.
@locky-mavo Or you know…hear me out….people just don’t like the game you like as much compared to another game.
Crazy idea I know. People dared to not enjoy Engage, but actually enjoy 3H. Nah makes WAY more sense to just assume nobody just played the games period. Christ this classic FE elitism people never get old.
Only thing Engage is better at is a better combat gameplay tempo. Everything else from story, main character cast, replay value, social aspect, QoL features, etc is largely considered in favor for 3H
3H having NG+ also gives the game an objective advantage. Did like 5 plays of 3H back in day. Engage only one and done.
Engage not having NG+ because “Well the old FE didn’t have NG+ and Engage is a return of ‘classic’ FE…” was probably the lamest excuse I ever heard from people defending the game especially when there was plenty of value a NG+ playthough would provide for Engage to cut down on the grind for future plays
Sorry the toothpaste game couldn’t do it for me in comparison.
I remember how hyped up the first Forced Unleashed game was with Lucas involved and how he considered it 1st real game that directly connected with his movies. “This was how the rebel alliance was made.”
Then of course Disney came along and retconned all of that for their own (Not always so good) takes for the Star Wars lore.
“Wrong one. We want the other one!” was what summarized the initial reaction, but this is fine if that means we are closer to getting that release or dare I hope a new entry?
Just don’t release another streaming turd like Marvel Infinite that was the black sheep of the series for the community. I don’t support mediocrity especially these days when there are a lot more choices now for Marvel type team fighters.
Competition is higher now so don’t be lazy again. Capcom learned that the hard way last time when DBFZ and even something mediocre like BBTAG took spotlights.
Sony really needs to make some first party games that isn’t always a high spec cinimatic experience that takes years to get vomited out. Some good faster released modest budget 1st parties can turn things around for them better.
Then why work with Nintendo to begin with if you’re freelance…? I doubt Nintendo put a gun to their head and forced them into signing a NDA. Highly doubt the lack of credit was a surprise either and was literally explained in the paperwork. Let’s be real at the time they cared more about the money than credit anyway without thinking. You know like how typical freelance work goes: Money focused with flexible employers.
Feels silly to complain after the fact when they voluntarily signed the NDA at the time. At one point they considered the Pros better than the Cons for the job. Just feels like complaining for sake of complaining because they want to avoid responsibility for their own decisions. It’s just easier to complain about it anonymously to vent their frustrations. It’s not being “privileged” (I’m laughing if you actually think freelancers at Nintendo get paid remotely the same as someone working in entry retail. Dumb comparison to try to suit narrative.) like another silly commenter here tried to defend them for. It’s literally called being an adult and that is how most of us in real life have to deal with things on a daily basis. You make decisions on your own will power and you accept the benefits and consequences of said decisions.
Some of these commenters here really love to paint Nintendo as cartoony villain playing with their mustache laughing evil in the background to suit their narrative.
Which is ironic considering Nintendo objectively speaking is the company that treats their employees actually quite well compared to a lot of other companies. You know the company where the top takes pay cuts to try to retain veteran talent rather than mass layoffs like everyone else. Also there is a HUGE fundamental difference between a full time employee and a temp freelancer.
The latter expecting to reap the same benefits of an actual full time employee will just get you laughed out of the room regardless of what industry you work in.
Well warranted. The Switch was too popular and successful to die quick like the Wii U for example. Great portable machine with a great wealth of 1st party library to match with plenty of million+ sellers. Glad Nintendo didn’t “move on” like 3 years ago when people kept insisting a sequel console needed to drop right away.
Still satisfying to see years later all those so called game industry “experts” and armchair analysts claiming the Switch would fail just because it didn’t chase to be the highest specs of a machine like Sony or MS lol.
This game is like SSBU. The new entry would have a giant shadow to try to overcome. Playing any old MK or Smash game prior just feels like a huge step back from quantity of content to QoL refinements.
I saw what that “blade” looked like. You would have to be an absolute moron to feel remotely threatened by that. People crap on dumb US moments involving arrests, but UK needs to sort themselves out as well.
Why would Nintendo do something shady like that when they have a try and true formula for years? Just make fun games. Switch is supposed to be in their end days, but Nintendo still making fun honest games with the last direct. Leave that crap to out-of-touch Western companies.
All I learned in this comment section is a LOT of people here have no idea about Robin Hood with their blatant false equivalences and at best their knowledge caps at faulty second hand knowledge from online or they watched crappy adaptions like the Disney animated movie.

This game is like SSBU. The new entry would have a giant shadow to try to overcome. Playing any old MK or Smash game prior just feels like a huge step back from quantity of content to QoL refinements.
Re: Random: Zelda Fan Jailed For Carrying Small Master Sword Replica
I saw what that “blade” looked like. You would have to be an absolute moron to feel remotely threatened by that. People crap on dumb US moments involving arrests, but UK needs to sort themselves out as well.
Re: Don't Worry, Nintendo Likely Won't Utilise Generative AI In Its Game Development
Why would Nintendo do something shady like that when they have a try and true formula for years? Just make fun games. Switch is supposed to be in their end days, but Nintendo still making fun honest games with the last direct. Leave that crap to out-of-touch Western companies.
Re: Nintendo Files Two New Lawsuits In Continued Clamp Down On Switch Piracy
All I learned in this comment section is a LOT of people here have no idea about Robin Hood with their blatant false equivalences and at best their knowledge caps at faulty second hand knowledge from online or they watched crappy adaptions like the Disney animated movie.
Re: Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream Lands On Switch This October
Fatal Bullet was my fav in serious because it felt like the Freedom Wars 2 we were never gonna get thanks to DIMPS involvement
