You can enjoy DK without having to put down MKW lol. They don’t even have much overlap with each other to begin with. One is a kart racer with a PvP multiplayer scene and the other is predominantly a 3D single player focused collector platformer.

@Wewewi People played MK8D for years and that was before it got a booster pass. Highly doubt most of those same people that enjoy Mario Kart World is gonna drop the game the same day they start playing lol. That is already proven false if you get off NL right now and boot up MKW online. You don’t “run out of things to do” when online multiplayer is a big part of the game. You know…just like with Smash Ultimate, Splatoon 3, etc.

@Ogbert NL comment section on their hot takes for a game isn’t exactly a reliable source of information. The game wouldn’t still be being bought and played in droves if it was objectively any of those things.

If the 30 FPS is capped then it doesn’t matter that you are playing this on a S2.

@VoidofLight They can say whatever they want with a label just like with PLA it’s not considered a true mainline Pokemon gen game by the playerbase.

Mainline follows a general skeleton formula since Red/Blue. PlA and this game isn’t it. This game follows up more closer to PLA (and even that people are complaining it’s not picking up the best aspects of PLA such as being so city focused) then a traditional Gen Pokemon game. If there is any building off it will be maybe some aspects of the battle system.

I feel people are putting too much stock into spin-offs and thinking it will permanently change the mainline game formula radically which hasn’t been the case so far. Legend Arceus didn’t radically change the direction of S/V besides being more open world. I don’t see this game turning the next mainline game unrecognizable for sake of “change”.

GameFreak is not gonna kill a try and true decades+ formula because a minority on the internet wants change from PvP battles to PvE exploration, but the consumers says otherwise with their wallets open at the ready.

If you actually want the next mainline games to “change for the better” then you definitely should have not bought S/V at the numbers it got. Like that ship has already sailed.

Did anyone seriously expect it too? As much as some people are still complaining about Mario Kart World…it’s legitimately a new and popular game. In b4 people downplay it again because bundles as if non bundle World still wouldn’t significantly sell better then a rerelease Mario Party, but with camera gimmicks.

There is zero reason to get this Mario Party Jamboree game over the original unless you want to use the camera stuff.

Both games are so different from each other besides surface layer similarities like “they are 3D platformer” and “you collect stuff”.

Wonder how long the “S2 is flop” people gonna still try to gaslight people.

The reason they are not doing upgrades is so they force more people to buy the S2 version which isn’t a legitimate physical like the S1 version. Yeah skip. Cut corners means cut sales I guess.

These kind of peripherals don’t sell well at all with those poor attach rates versus production costs. I don’t get why they keep doing this. It didn’t work for MS and Sony when they did this gimmick either.

Dumb PR speak. I’ll just play at Steam at that point no thanks. Either do genuine physicals or don’t bother. Guess most of my S2 library is gonna be 1st parties. For reference my S1 library was roughly a 50/50 ratio between 1st and 3rd party. Sad considering I have all the Trails S1 titles physical.

Don’t think anyone remotely in their right mind expected a DK 3D platformer to beat Mario Kart. Makes me question some of the commenters here because they either grossly overrated DK or grossly underrated Mario Kart. Maybe both.

FYI Mario Odyssey didn’t beat MK8D either on S1.

FYI again there was always more noise in Japanese Twitter/X for Mario Kart World then there was for a DK game despite people in the West complaining about Mario Kart World because a few influencers hated a patch and cried about going back to MK8D.

People immediately downplaying Mario Kart because it was in a bundle are fooling themselves. If Mario Kart didn’t get a bundle it would still sell more than a DK platformer. The upcoming Pokemon game is also getting a bundle. Are you suggesting DK would have also outsold that Pokemon game if it didn’t get a bundle too? See how silly that line of reasoning is?

Game itself was mid at best even if you put aside the usual Ubislop controversies this game deserved. Don’t think the S2 port just like for Outlaws is gonna help them as much as they think. Ghosts and Ronin were both better games by far if you wanted that Japanese aesthetic gameplay gimmick.

Ah classic Ubisoft style “it’s not our fault it was X, Y, and Z”. Yes let’s also ignore how the Jedi Last Order/Survivor did notably better. Yes it’s all the brand’s fault. One of the most popular IP in the world mind you even if Disney keeps botching the brand lately.

FYI for context there are PLENTY of videos back when Outlaws first launched on YouTube. It was a buggy disaster (as you would expect from an Ubisoft launch since they don’t QA until after the launch), the stealth aspects was hilariously bad that people were making meme videos about it, the combat had no real impact to the point where the melee CQC stuff was a joke, and older games like RDR2 had a way more detailed open world. People were even meming that even ancient games like SKYRIM in comparison videos had better environmental details in some aspects then outlaws.

Game was a rushed product cash grab trying to check in on a trend that long since moved on and you were just left with a disappointing open world Ubislop game with a SW can of pain. It’s not that complicated.

Sorry, but a S2 port won’t save a very disappointing RDR clone attempt that is Outlaws. I rather play RDR2 on S2 which is an older game yet somehow did the open world outlaw gimmick significantly better.

There is no need to over analyze this. Mario has always been more popular than DK. I expect DK to have decent legs regardless. Also this is just UK aka PlayStation land.

One is for the console gamer enjoyer that enjoys the simple gaming experience regardless of their technology literacy. There is a reason why both little kids and the elderly who never looked up a guide could play games with little to no issue.

Steam Deck no matter how much they try to “dummy proof” it…it’s still at the end of the day a PC. That makes it more complicated then a gaming console by default.

It puts more burden on the player to tinker for optimal experience. There are also plenty of games that don’t straight up work period on a Steam Deck on the default IOS without heavy tinkering I.E you need to install windows, you need to open on desktop mode, you need to DL X mod, etc.

I own both a S1 and a Steam Deck and it’s night and day difference for “ease-of-use” and the S2 only refines for the better from the S1.

They knew nobody would buy the S2 version if they offered an upgrade path from the S1 physical cartridges. Key cards was really a mistake. SE in particular doesn’t care at all at cheaping even if their games are small.

At this rate looks like most of my S2 library is gonna be first parties and way less third parties this time around because if I’m not getting a legitimate physical then at that point I would rather just play a digital copy on PC.

No idea why people thought this was gonna be a game key release. Mario Kart World wasn’t a key release either. 1st parties isn’t gonna be an issue at all regarding key releases because

1. They are not gonna be bigger then a 64 cart on release

2. Nintendo is not gonna cheap out on their own software to kill their own sales ceiling potential.

It’s most third parties is what you got to look out for.

There is a difference between being a constant stuttering mess by default like Scarlet/Violet and what Tears was on S1 where you have to go out of your way to make it a stuttering mess with the constructs.

If this game belongs to the latter because player doesn’t intentionally try to test limits with the constant environmental destruction/construction then game will be received fine. Most players will just play the game like a 3D platformer. A 60 briefly going to 55 isn’t bad either if that is the “hiccups” during combat.

Was a good call in the end to do S1 and Steam. Was the two platforms for best returns if you could only pick two of them which was their situation.

S2 growth rate is still ahead of S1 (gap widening) during the same period btw. Still waiting on that crystal ball prophecy “S2 gonna do worse then S1” rhetoric to remotely hint at happening.

Yeah there are like 20+ of these movies, but pretty sure the first 3? were notable because they had widespread theater releases (outside Japan) back when anime movies were popular at your local theater where it came with promotions and all of that marketing instead of the 98% straight to dvd tier.

@jojobar Steam Deck (or any portable PC machine for that matter) never got close to either the Wii U or the PS Vita both of which was considered industry failures. The “PC portable machines gonna deflate S2 hype” had to be the dumbest of the copes I had seen on S2 prerelease.

Very safe take considering the S2 is already ahead of the S1 (and every other game console) just from the launch.

S2 already debunked the “S1 fatigue” “too many people won’t be able to afford it” and “people will get portable PC machines this time” excuse nonsense I seen here and other places to downplay the S2.

Review bombs are stupid especially when they all are 0/10s which I don’t care HOW MUCH you hate that patch…Mario Kart World objectively is not a 0/10. Pretty sure Metacritic deletes review bombs anyway and vast majority of people who buy/enjoy games don’t ever look at Metacritic scores.

I checked the PS5 Sony exclusive game list on the wiki which includes upcoming games….and it’s barely a footnote in size compared to S1 Nintendo exclusive game list.

FYI the S2 current “roadmap” for first parties from Nintendo for what we know so far in Year 1 also heavily mogs PS5 exclusive game output for year 1.

So clickbait is clickbait. Nintendo still has the first party output on lockdown in the industry. I doubt a new 3D Mario game is gonna be that far off. It just makes zero sense to have a 3D Mario in close proximity as a 3D DK.

The screen could be better. It’s hard to go back from a S1 OLED. That said the screen quality isn’t a high priority for me.

I care more about battery life capacity and that imo is the S2 low point so hopefully in the future revisions they address that. Whether they improve battery consumption efficiency, improve the battery life itself, or a combo of both. Like yeah it’s nice that S2 can run more beefier games now compared to the S1, but now that battery is gonna drain quicker as a tradeoff which isn’t ideal for a handheld experience.

It’s nice seeing first party games that isn’t obsessed with being 100+ GB.

You should have looked at how said industry “experts” treated the S1 before release. Acted how it was DoA. The S2 also got similar treatment with people downplaying how it’s only a PS4.5 in an era where people want 4k 120 FPS, etc or game is “trash”. How RoG Alley makes S2 obsolete and other nonsense.

@Duncanballs tbf MK8 had both an enhanced rerelease via MK8D for the Switch release + the giant booster pass later on adding a lot more content. Wii U launch MK8 is a very different game than S1 MK8D today. I doubt World isn’t gonna get something down the line.

I bought the all the previous Trails on S1 that got genuine physicals starting with Cold Steel III. I got Cold Steel I and II still on my Vita. Again they did physical. Not buying any of these for S2 if they are gonna cut corners simple as that.

At that point I can just buy it on PC then if I’m not gonna get a physical anyway.

Still think going Live Action for Zelda was the wrong move.

Especially with the trend of pure live action adaption of videogames doing badly. There is a reason why Mario went full animation and Sonic/Detective Pikachu/Minecraft/etc at least went half animation.
