Re: Switch Emulator Ryujinx Might Not Be Dead, Despite Nintendo's Takedown

Arawn93

Always funny in these comments sections regarding emulation, the usuals immediately go to bat in the name for “game preservation” acting like this wouldn’t STILL happen even if Nintendo had every game they ever had in existence on the current platform.

We all know that is nonsense. Vast majority of people are not “emulating” old games from several generations in the past. No no no. By far it’s people that just don’t want to spend money and play their video game earlier on new release games. It’s not some guess work either.

The literal subreddits for these emulators is full of users alone that shamelessly admit they do it so they don’t give Nintendo a dime and play new games early. The “preservation” is often used as a shield so they can act like what they are doing has an ounce of moral righteousness.

Re: Nintendo Museum Overseas Visitors Reportedly Breaking 'No Photos' Rule

Arawn93

@HingryHuppo Whatever your rant is trying to accomplish, you are wrong. Just even further proves my point that is why we have rules. Otherwise we would be back to the “good ole” Wild West days which I can tell most of this comment section would hate what that would entail. Hint: You wouldn’t be having this current luxury sitting on a computer talking on a Nintendo website.

All you accomplished is gone for a personal experience to sum up your argument. Basically “this x incident was bad so Y incident is invalid” which is complete nonsense.

Meanwhile in reality, where other people besides you travel to different countries you see tourists have conflicts with the locals all the time. Usually the tourist has some selfish notion that just because they are used to a certain way of doing things that means it’s fine wherever they go.

Hell Japan in particular that gets a large influx of Western tourists in Okinawa, Tokyo, etc where there are incidents reportedly caused by foreigner tourist in a frequent manner and mocked online by the Japanese social feeds.

You do realize for example the US military stationed in Okinawa has had multiple incidents in the past where they killed locals right? All this adds fuel to the people hating Western tourists that don’t even have the basic levels of etiquette that a Japanese child would have been taught. You are not winning the hearts and minds of the people by ignoring signs to take photos to satisfy your personal desires.

Stop talking when you have zero clue of what is actually going on in Japan and how certain Japanese businesses feel over Westerners on their land after decades of incidents.

Not hard in 2024 to check online and do 5 min of research if you never been there yourself. It got so bad in some areas (such as when a fat French man came and refused to leave when politely told restaurant was closed by Japanese owner, but still refused to leave. He has since banned tourists from being served.) Just comes across as plain ignorant that just adds to the stereotypical image of how Westerners portray themselves.

Re: Nintendo Museum Overseas Visitors Reportedly Breaking 'No Photos' Rule

Arawn93

Western foreigner tourist acting like they are in their own home due to lack of class. Tale as old as time.

You wonder why Japanese locals has poor impression of Western guests that some businesses even put up signs banning tourists because someone ruined it for everyone else.

Just looking at half this comment section going “screw rules lol” just proves my point why rules exist in the first place.

Re: Review: Yakuza Kiwami (Switch) - A Decent Port Of An Ambitious, Frustrating Game

Arawn93

FYI it’s not even just about the score. An outlier review score on its own isn’t a bad thing itself

If it was scored 6/10, but the review itself had detailed reasons why it should have got the score then at least I can see where maybe reviewer was coming from.

Hell even the summary section at the end makes it even more confusing to figure out since just by once glance you would think it would be a typical 8/10.

The issue why this review is being heavily criticized is the actual criticisms in the review itself feels largely glossed over and vague. People are confused why it tanked the score this much as a result. Like what was the scoring criteria for this?

It’s fine to have different opinions, but some people expect more professionalism on a review so it’s taken more seriously as a source of “should I get this game or not?” that people often use reviews for. Especially when “critic” reviews are supposed to be placed at a higher pedestal than normal user reviews. It’s not even just with this game, but several in the past. It’s not simply downplayed as “you just didn’t agree with me.”

Also it doesn’t matter if NL considers 6/10 as “Not bad” when that is far from what the common consensus for how a 6/10 (or for other critics a 60/100) is generally viewed which is on the lower end of “good” at best especially with how gamers are obsessed with Metacritic scores. Hell 6/10s has a stigma of “you barely didn’t fail”.

Speaking of 6/10s though and the argument of “it’s not a big deal it doesn’t mean it’s bad!” keep in mind you rarely see any actual new Nintendo 1st parties get that score with that thinking and that even includes highly controversial Nintendo games like Scarlet/Violet which still got a higher 7/10 on NL so this again goes back to “NL may benefit from getting more non Nintendo gamer bias reviewers”.

Re: Alleged Concept Art From Cancelled Donkey Kong Project Emerges

Arawn93

What are they smoking? Healthy state? Old ports is “healthy” for franchise that had no new game since what? A decade?

You know what an actual series that got more healthy lately? Metroid. They actually got a new 2D Metroid after years of nothing with Dread (which was greatly received) and soon even a new prime game on top of that while still getting ports.

Re: Review: Yakuza Kiwami (Switch) - A Decent Port Of An Ambitious, Frustrating Game

Arawn93

Another case where the summary + score doesn’t sound like they match. Big list of pros and the cons is filled with smaller weirder complaints, but apparently that is enough to tank the score.

That 6/10, would expect the Switch port job was unplayable trash (which ironically is the opposite since it plays fine), but no it was just full with…weird complaints to put it mildly…If Switch gets more ports you might want to grab someone else. FYI Yakuza 1 is one of the weaker entires of the series, but not 6/10 levels of weak. 7.5 at the lowest easy.

If Yakuza 0 gets ported (considered one of the best in the series) I have a feeling if they go in just like with this review they might just give a 7 at best lol.

@dskatter

Yup this was the moment that pretty much told me “they should have got someone else to review this.” if something like that filters you lol. Yakuza games are narrative driven. What do you expect? Just mindless fighting all the time like a Musou?

Re: Japanese Charts: Ain't No Party Like A Mario Party

Arawn93

  • Strong Mario Party game launch as expected did amazing. Perhaps even more than usual considering it did 200k+ right off the bat and not even counting expected great legs for it yet.
  • Switch has another 50k+ week while PS5 has a constant battle whether it can break 10k or not
  • Echos still hanging around with legs at almost a month.
  • As expected Metaphor along with Sparking and SH2 remake was super front loaded with significant drops. Wouldn’t be surprising if all three disappears next week.

Re: Japanese Charts: Zelda Gets Booted Off The Podium As Metaphor Arrives In Style

Arawn93

  • Metaphor didn’t beat the Zelda game launch as that one user here kept yapping about. At least the launch did better than Soul Hacker 2.
  • Metaphor, Silent Hill, AND Sparking week wasn’t enough for any meaningful boost to Sony hardware
  • Switch still pushing 50k+ casually in a slow week for Nintendo releases

Curious how the upcoming Party game does.

Re: Japanese Charts: Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Summons Up Another Win

Arawn93

@Johnny44 You don’t understand. Sales went from just under 10k to around 12k~! The Sony surge in Japan is real! No doubt SH2 remake and the not-Persona game will save the PS5 in Japan and give Nintendo a spanking next week!

If you are still doubtful then wait for that one user to pop up here that short posts four times in a row in a short interval for why Nintendo is gonna fail and Sony is gonna turn things around with all of the faulty comparisons you can think of!

Re: Ubisoft's Disastrous 2024 May Lead To The Company Going Private

Arawn93

@demacho

  • Inaccurate as hell depiction of Yasuke. Not gonna even waste time explaining why when researching who Yasuke actually was tells the story. Hint: For starters he wasn’t a sword singing samurai that killed scores of Japanese in feudal Japan. He wasn’t even a samurai btw. Actual Japanese historians also debunked Ubisofts depiction of the person despite Ubisofts “Japanese consultant” (who was another can of worms of controversy) insisting the accuracy. He was more accurately a Sodomy partner for Nobu like his other retainers if anything.
  • Inaccurate as hell architecture for the location and time period. It’s literally more Chinese than Japanese that is how bad their “research” was. Not me making this up. Ubisoft even admits this during their delay notes about the inaccurate setting.
  • Scenes like Japanese peasants bowing down to Yasuke is also hilariously inaccurate (Ubisoft invention) to the feudal Japanese caste system. For one Yasuke was one of many retainers of Nobu and Nobu of all people wouldn’t have him go around town making farmers bow down to him let alone the other retainers. Btw racism was still very much alive back then.
  • Just to put a cherry on top their merchandising was hilariously tone deaf when they were selling toys depicting WWII Japanese memorials for profit. They since pulled that crap out.

This wasn’t the first fiction or game that showed off Yasuke btw. There was no controversy for any of those. This is the first one where a Western group messed up the depiction that badly.

If they didn’t care about historical accuracy and made the black samurai playable character (again something that has been done before with no controversy) an OC then that alone would get rid of like 25% of the controversy.

Re: Dragon Quest's Creator Criticises 'Mistranslation' Of DQ3 Remake Costume Comments

Arawn93

FYI the overall message context is still largely the same after reading the “fixed” version.

Makes you wonder why he bothered with the “I was misquoted” if it was largely over nitpicks as if THAT was why people were losing their minds lol.

It’s not like he was praising everything instead lol. It’s still old Japanese men doing their rant on the West. So yeah this wasn’t a “Musk was being evil and chuds being chuds” scenario some people here are envisioning about.

This is 100% damage control from SE (including with original video taken down) because they likely didn’t expect the DQ creator being “too frank” with his views and potentially scaring away their Western market lol.

Re: Mario Movie Actor Says Second Film Is "Very Exciting So Far"

Arawn93

Is Chris Pratt gonna voice Chris Pratt again or Mario this time? Guy can’t range to save his life. My optimist side is that he learned after the first movie, but doubtful.

Jack Black meanwhile carried the voice casting because he was the one by far in the cast with actual voice acting experience in spades. Hell Jack can even sing and did so in the movie with great positive reception.

Jack Black in Mario carried as much as Jim Carrey did for the Sonic movies. Both as the main villain. Go figure.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Chimes In On Characters Showing Less Skin In Upcoming HD-2D Remake

Arawn93

@Arehexes The “is it a really big deal?” goes both ways. Gaming industry went fine with “boy or girl” “male or female” etc. for decades. Last I checked back in the early days of Pokemon when Professor asked if you were a boy or girl there was no controversy from both children and adults alike. At this rate is the final destination of this rabbit hole gonna be “Cis Male” “Cis Female” and “Trans”?

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Chimes In On Characters Showing Less Skin In Upcoming HD-2D Remake

Arawn93

@Poco_Lypso Yup. Hilarious that the person responded to me posted just a Reddit link of all things as if that does ANYTHING for his argument lol.

I will trust the multiple ACTUAL Japanese historians (not the joker Ubisoft used and certainly not a random Reddit link) in Japan that criticized Ubisoft’s blatantly inaccurate culture portrayal in the game. Ubisoft couldn’t even get the architecture right. Lot of it was CHINESE in origin.

Anyone that acts like Japan loves how this AC is portrayed (like how Ubisoft’s “Japanese Consultant” acted like Japan would LOVE this AC) are just as tone deaf as the Ubisoft merchandising team that used a WWII memorial for game profit.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

Arawn93

@MegaVel91 Moral issue? You think Nintendo is doing this over morals? lol. No. Hell I’m not even taking the morale route with this. You don’t need to.

It’s just common sense to not cheer for thieves especially when it’s thievery over video games of all things. This isn’t a “Little Timmy stealing bread for his younger sister” scenario.

Congratulations for being a Joey Little along with the other users here going “I only preserve!” Or “emulating got me to buy Nintendo games! Honest!” You are all the drop in the bathtub full of piracy. That doesn’t change anything in the end from a Nintendo perspective.

Nintendo doing this based on the most non biased way possible: They see X game being downloaded Y amount of times (sometimes for even profit lol) before the game even dropped. That is all the justification they need and unfortunately collateral damage (the “good apples”) happens due to it.

People like you still fail to comprehend this and love throwing out every flimsy justification out of your butt to try to paint Nintendo as the bad guy when you are blaming the wrong people for all of this. Then later have the surprise Pikachu face when Nintendo actually does something about it time and time again with multiple first party games getting stolen at this point.

If people TRULY were just emulating because “I just want to preserve” or “I just want the game in better specs after I bought it” then the numbers would tell a different story.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

Arawn93

@VoidofLight Cool. Can you speak for the ones that did? Tears literally got pirated day -1 and probably cost Nintendo millions of lost revenue when they hit the LAST one lol. Just chalk it up as “people ruining it for the rest of us.”

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

Arawn93

Some of these past comments aged like milk (again) from the last emulation closure article…

Anyway I’m all for less parasites because let’s be real vast majority was never for the “game preservation” meme and just want free video gaming on brand new Nintendo games lol. The “Emulation ISN’T piracy” crowd need to understand that.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Chimes In On Characters Showing Less Skin In Upcoming HD-2D Remake

Arawn93

TLDR PR translation: “Blame Americans not us.”

@Vexx234 You mean the grossly historically inaccurate (and quite frankly tone deaf based on their merchandising decisions) Ubisoft game that Japan audience crapped on for not respecting culture and said inaccuracies was cited for one of the reasons for the delay?

Yasuke wasn’t even a samurai, but a retainer (that had no evidence of actually doing any fighting for Nobu.) that Nobu kept around as a novelty pet (again history mentions how Nobu was an arrogant man that does things on a whim.) and if you knew anything about feudal Japanese history, Nobu more likely kept him as a sodomy partner then swinging a sword at Japanese lol.

Reminder Ubisoft’s sole “Japanese consultant” was a joke fanfiction writer and actual Japanese historians could make a book about the historically inaccuracy in the game. The architecture is more Chinese than Japanese for starters lol.

Nobody denies Yasuke existed including Japan. This is far from his first portrayal. It’s that everyone with a brain dismissed this ludicrous portrayal for Yasuke because Ubisoft is more focused on checkboxes than games which is no wonder why everything has been going to hell for them lately especially after the Outlaws flop.

Re: Tony Hawk Confirms That The Video Game Series Has "A Future"

Arawn93

Still annoyed they got rid of the blood for an awkward rewind.

The blood worked for the overall game atmosphere which gave the series a unique extreme sport feel. It’s not like the blood was ever over excessive. It wasn’t Mortal Kombat. You felt those impacts when you did one too many spins on a half pipe or lost your balance grinding.

The games was never about realism with the things you can do anyway so weird they drew a line on that.

Re: Capcom Says It Will Continue To Grow The Ace Attorney Series

Arawn93

I mean at the end of the day years of these kinds of PR words can only take you so far.

You say you want to “grow the AA series” yet this entire Switch gen there hasn’t been a single new AA game. A lot of ports sure, but no new game. I don’t see how that is “growing” the series especially if the news turns out to be be another anime or concert like they did before with this kind of “Hey we hyping something for AA! It’s not a new game though.”

Re: Californian Law Dictates Storefronts Be Honest About Digital Game Ownership

Arawn93

This law doesn’t actually do anything and if anything does more harm then good. Cool you point out the super obvious, but now good luck actually trying to push for anything beyond that now with that wording.

@VHSGREMLIN This has to be either bait or just plain ignorant about the issues in California. The Beverly Hills/Hollywood elite bubble doesn’t reflect the rest of the state.

Homeless rates is stupid high that there are tent cities, cost of living is absurd even for a 1 room apartment in a crap area, cities like San Francisco that used to be a great tourist spot two decades ago is a trash dump full of thieves exploiting bad state laws, the beaches has been disgusting with the pollution over the years, I can go on.

If California was so amazing of a “utopia” as some were to claim then why is states like Nevada getting an absurd rise of state residence changes from California despite Vegas having hotter weather, no beach, etc? For California sake I wish it was “for no reason you just hating”, but reality says otherwise.

Also the “Silicon Valley produces stuff! You can’t criticize California” logic is laughably bad. Putting aside the obvious of Silicon Valley not negating the real issues California has….by that logic China should never be criticized because something in your home is manufactured from China.

Only thing objectively great about California is the weather right now tbh, but if you just wanted that then there are other places you can go.
