I mean it's neat that it's available for Switch owners and/or anyone who's never played it (it's a great game), but it does routinely go on sale on PS4 for about a fiver.
As for DF, they're clearly good at what they do (and I rather enjoy their retro retrospectives), but as a console person I tend to zone out whenever they start talking about graphics cards.
Seems like a small but nicely formed little game — the shortness doesn't bother me (if anything it's something of an incentive when so many longer games vie for attention), feels like it'd be a nice palette cleanser between more weighty games
Ah I bowed out of Animal Crossing long ago, round about the time they introduced swimming. After trying much slicker, better-designed games like Stardew and Rune Factory I don't know if I can go back to something so fundamentally limited and sedate.
I really enjoyed my time with RF4, and very keen to give 5 another go now that it apparently runs much better on Switch 2.
As for Farnia Village — as nice as it looks, ironically I'm actually the kind of person who likes to finish a game and then move on; it's unlikely I'd stick around for too long after the credits have rolled, unless they were continuously adding extra content to it.
I held out for Special Champion Edition and the 6 button Mega Drive controller.
Hell yeah, it was the best — I do remember playing and loving World Warrior on SNES but I never owned a SF game until SCE on the Mega Drive, must have played that every day for well over year after getting it for Christmas!
I had my fill of NES games in the Virtual Console era — I don't think it was ever really a big presence in the UK; there was a Playchoice 10 arcade in my local leisure centre and occasionally we'd see them appear on the last day of school but outside of that I had little nostalgia for it. SNES/Mega Drive and PlayStation were much more my vibe
I usually receive bigger, more full-price games for Christmas/birthdays, but I'll buy a smattering of smaller, indie games every month or so, it's so sporadic it's hard to put a number on it
I know they're not the same dev/publisher, but can whoever the powers are that be PLEASE sort out releasing the original Monkey Island games on Switch?
Nah, I doubt I will — I've already got 3D All Stars, and both Galaxy games on Wii, plus an extensive backlog of games that come at much higher priority.
@Daniel36 Bug fixes and patches are fine and all, but adding extra content and features does discourage me from picking games up on launch. If I'd already finished the game by that point, I'm unlikely to revisit/replay the game that soon.
@AlanaHagues Cheers — yeah I'm not sure if I was playing it wrong, but I found that the enemies in Hades 1 to be a little spongey and unresponsive; like they don't really "bounce" off your attacks so you could easily get overwhelmed if you get too stuck in. I do like the idea of playing it a bit more ranged
@AlanaHagues While I really enjoyed Hades 1, I did find it to have a pretty severe difficulty spike from the point at which Theseus/Asterius show up. And by the time I get to actually face off against daddio, I'm basically hanging onto life by a thread. And I've maxed out all my stats as well - does Hades 2 have the same level of difficulty or is it a bit more balanced?
While it's fun to point out the weird inconsistencies, does anyone genuinely care that much? Surely if you have to start having to take 40+ years of "continuity" into account, it kind of narrows the scope for creativity in your game about a landscape smashing ape and his little human sidekick?
I honestly didn't see this DLC coming, especially so soon — I feel like I already got what I wanted out of the main game, and while I might eventually return to it at some point, it won't be for a while.
I feel like I'm falling so behind with Atelier — still haven't played Ryza 3, haven't even acquired Yumia yet, and now there's another new one? Jeepers, they're cranking them out
Still a bit torn whether to pick this up on PS or Switch — knowing it'll probably run better and cost less, it's not necessarily a game I'd want the option to play handheld.
To that end, the quality of the games will inform the score, rather than the admittedly fine presentation and emulation quality
if someone presented me with an exquisitely hand-crafted, jewel-encrusted package that contained a festering, maggot-riddled dead rat, I still wouldn't be very impressed by the gesture as a whole.
I'm sure there'll be an minor audience for this, but I fear the buyers' remorse will be all too real once the "hilarious/ironic" novelty wears off, the YouTube clicks stop coming, and the games' sheer bang-average-at-best-ness rears its head after the first 15 minutes or so.
I genuinely thought that Donkey Kong Bananza and Metroid Prime 4 were going to be launch games — along with Mario Kart World and Fast Fusion that would have been a pretty solid line up of original games to get the ball rolling, but here were are three months later and still no Metroid?
I completely missed the boat with Hollow Knight, and subsequently the hype that came along with the idea of a sequel — it kinda got lost in the sea of Metroidvanias that have been being cranked out since its release (the similarly-named Shovel Knight, and the similar-looking Ori games to name but two), and Silksong was just one of those games I kept hearing about second-hand
@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT if you pass out outside your home you basically get mugged and lose a few of your items — that's really the only penalty, but it's not worth the aggro
@MetalGearValley Yeah, the one-tile whack n' scoot method got very tiresome quickly and gave me ACNH ptsd flashbacks Tbf I've not actually properly dove back into SV, since big chests were introduced in 1.6, maybe this is the answer to my woes!
This is exactly the reason why I won't play this. 10 minutes just to get to the front door, an hour just to walk to the shed. It makes no sense and it makes me stressed.
I managed to get past the initial stress of the constantly ticking clock (I got into the habit of opening a menu to freeze time every time I was standing still or thinking about something), but what eventually wore me down with Stardew is the inventory system. Having to manually create multiple 30-slot storage repositories (which can't be moved if they have anything in them) makes managing your thousands of items (particularly later in the game - I was on my third year) a real slog. Also not being able to craft items unless you have them on you, or in an adjoining slot to your workbench, was a hassle.
@xenobladexfan Oh yeah, they never did, did they? Just on PS5 — although at least Switch is region-free, if you find one on ebay (it's currently £55 on Amazon...)
@CasualTalkRadio The Ryza games were Japanese only and they've proved pretty popular from what I've read.
I would like it if they went the extra mile and sprung for an English dub though; the series is famously a very chatty one
@xenobladexfan Yeah from the few I've played they're a lot of fun — very light and fluffy tonally but with surprisingly deep and very satisfying crafting mechanics
I've been encountering this a lot lately, in game genres like platformers and puzzlers that you'd think wouldn't really be the place you'd find it. I wonder, was the original version this verbose or did they add a load of new dialogue to it?
No reason has been given for the removal, but fans speculate that it's due to the licenses for some in-game music running out.
Yeah, it's almost always music licensing. They really need to sit down and update whatever archaic laws they're still abiding by with regards to licensing, it repeatedly sucks the fun out of gaming.
It'd be nice to get the majority of the numbered FF games in one place, plus I'd definitely be more inclined to dip in and out of an MMO such as XIV if I had the option of doing so in handheld
I can't wait to finally get around to playing Hollow Knight so i can feel just as outraged by the absence of Silksong as the entire rest of the gaming cosmos seems to be.
it's a shame Nintendo opted for this strangely barren style.
Remember when Nintendo were making Mario Kart, and they had those nondescript, helmeted F1 racer characters, before introducing Mario and co? This reminds me a little bit of that — how much more appealing would it have been been with big, bright, Mushroom Kingdom/Splatoon-style chararacters?
DF is one of the few gaming YouTube channels I still find bearable (their retro stuff is always a treat), although as soon as they start talking about the intricacies of graphics cards my brain does start to glaze over a bit...
@electrolite77 Yeah, you would think that Codes in a Box would be a thing of the past now — if they've gone to the effort of making Key Cards a thing, CIAB really needs to GITB.

They really need to just create an upgrade option for owners of this and Galaxy 1&2 so they can include all four games in one place.
