Yeah, I did manage to power through DQ1-3 that are on Switch, but in all honest they're not the best way to play — as a complete story it would make perfect sense to include all three of them (not to mention DQ1 is very short) as a nice neat package.
Oof, no thanks — just give me the game please. Maybe an art book that slots nicely into the case, but I can't fathom going for so much extra stuff like these
Imagine if everyone who paid for cloud versions of games were given a download code for a proper digital version of them for Switch 2 — wouldn't that be nice of the publishers?
@eaglesfly76 It's MAYBE 3 hours if you strip out all the problem solving and dying/replaying. Whenever I look at HLTB, I always find it undershoots massively; typically my playtime is like 1.25-1.5X what they posit.
@KingBurger Oh, yes please! The last modern console they came to was way back on the PS360 — if they could release a compilation of all four games in a pack I'd buy it on day one. Is there some sort of legal/rights issue with the original games?
Nah — it sounds like it'll be as clunky and imprecise as the base building segment in Fallout 4. Hell even the original Mario 64 felt like a tech demo for 3D gaming, can you imagine the amount of unfinished, mediocre trash that will clog up the servers?
I have some rudimentary knowledge of what goes into making a game, but I cannot fathom what sorcery must be involved in cramming one onto something of that size.
@LEGEND_MARIOID yeah, there's a fair few games I've held off on — waiting to see what, if anything, eventually happens with the Switch's successor (back compat/ performance boost would be the absolute dream), otherwise I'll just end up getting them on PS5
@LEGEND_MARIOID The problem is though, at least what I find, that you make a mental note to pick the game up once it's been patched, but so many other games come out in the meantime, and (unless you're actively following publishers' patch notes), you can lose focus, and as such the enthusiasm, to play the game at all.
@mikegamer Yeah, I've been reading more and more reviews of games lately that simply don't run well because of the Switch's limited hardware. Hopefully the new console will have some sort of "Boost mode" equivalent.
@-wc- The sentence could be read in different ways — it doesn't say they're NOT working on patches, the hope is that said patches that are being worked on bring the game up to an acceptable level.
I think it's the load times that would eventually break me — on top of random encounters (which I've heard are quite frequent), I fear a 40+ hour playthough might be death by a thousand papercuts
I'd almost forgotten that Game existed until the other week when I noticed they'd been banished to the basement of Sports Direct. Naturally I had a quick mooch, but all the games were being sold at their RRP, there was almost nothing in the way of offers or discounts; even second hand items were only marginally cheaper. It's sad, but it really doesn't surprise me that digital/online takes the lions' share of sales
I mean, I'm moderately interested in watching the Sonic films, I have next to no interest committing to multiple interconnected TV shows to bridge their plots together. It's what ultimately turned me off Star Wars, and is currently chipping away at my enthusiasm for the MCU.
I'm sure Nintendo have better things to be focusing on than harbouring some petty desire to one up a rival company's console from over two decades ago.
Well, I've got a PS5 which I play most of my bigger/AAA-style games on, and my Switch is mainly for smaller, less-horsepower requiring/indie games, and of course Nintendo exclusives. I've always been on the lookout for a reason to get into XBox, but there simply aren't enough exclusive games on it to warrant it. However if they released a handheld with say, the power of a Series S, I would definitely reevaluate my options — it'd be nice to have all three in some capacity.
In the height of my interest in it, Animal Crossing was the perfect Sunday morning romp — check yer turnips and then poddle about for a few hours after. Nowadays I'd say Stardew is the best equivalent
Wait, why do they screw up so hard with Star Wars, yet Tomb Raider Remastered wasn't THIS problematic?
I believe the Tomb Raider remasters were built on the original code, plus there's no online component — so I'd imagine that'd make a remaster a much more straightforward process (I'm by no means any kind of coder; I'm sure there's WAY more to it than I'm implying )
I had this one back on 3DS. Like all SaGa-like games, it's a kind of RPG I want to love, but the obtuse and opaque progression system really hampers my enjoyment.
Yeah, I've dropped (or come close to dropping) a fair few JRPGs lately, most of which that were remasters of games from 10+ years ago, because of their general lack of modern QoL features that make playing them an absolute slog. I need to be far more discerning.
@Bobb I'm relatively okay at rhythm games, I think for these games specifically you absolutely need to know the amount of moves enemies have ahead of time, because when you take more than one of them head on and mistime their rhythm they can utterly destroy you within a few seconds
@Mariotag For me it really depends on how long the run is. I'm really enjoying Dead Cells as you can blast through levels in a matter of minutes if you're feeling spry. Hades though, as much as I love how it's crafted, I find the some of the longer, >25 minute runs kind of a slog, especially with the energy-sapping penultimate level where you feel like all of your careful damage evasion was for naught
It'll never happen, but the idea of reselling digital games for a percentage of eshop credit does seem appealing — I've been pretty trigger happy with numerous sales and there are definitely a fair dozen or so games I'll likely never finish or want to play again.
@Zaruboggan The saving is weird across all three games — in TR 1 you get checkpoint crystals, which made the most sense. In TR2 you can save literally anywhere as many times as you want, whereas TR3 sorta combines them — you collect "save crystals" after certain points, that you can use at your leisure, kind of like the ink ribbons in Resident Evil.

@PeteW Yeah, same — there's definitely RNG involved in just how many fruits you can reasonably stack without them getting lost in the cracks

@fox_mattcloud yeah, I played it solid for about a weekend and then kinda dropped off completely — once I got the eponymous, elusive suika

@eaglesfly76 oh absolutely — if anything it's when a game feels unnecessarily padded out or poorly paced is when I start to lose interest
